Re: BR Forum Feedback

Dear admins,

Over the last few years, the number of instances of Indian maps and territory being misrepresented has increased dramatically.

Instances:
Google maps
MSN maps
Television programs especially from UK and US.
Newspapers and Websites.

The latest one is a program in Channel 4 from UK. This showed whole of J&K being part of Pakistan.

Instead of tracking them individually, I think it makes sense to have a common thread. There have been instances in the past where a separate thread has been started and this can be avoided.

Feedback appreciated!

Many thanks

Why not just use the psyops thread for the maps issue ? If the topic lends itself to a productive collection of information and ideas for action, without descending into bitter statements and general whining, then we can partition it off into a separate thread.

Is it possible to create folders within the "Strategic & International Relations Forum". We could start with
1) China
2) S.E.Asia (including NE India)

...and add more if necessary.

I thought we had an understanding Chinese thread, but could not find it. Going through the Board Index and searching did not help. My keywords for the search must have been wrong.

If one is to study wars of the past, i am sure there will be a trend that emerges of actions, deceits, key events, acts of omissions and commissions by either sides; basically we will get a lot of dots which if joined would clearly lay the path to the actual start of hostilities.
We would be able to identify deliberate steps that culminated in initiating the war.
But all this is done with the benefit of hindsight and intention of tracing back the steps which led to the war.

With some predicting a war with china soon, and all signals of china stepping up its belligerence and shenanigans against india, i think we need to have a thread possibly called "Foreboding of war".
This thread would be the place to put any information which we can gather through open source about actions which overtly/covertly betray a hostile strategy.
We already have this information strewn in a number of threads. The new thread will not be about opinions but just collecting reportings and facts.

Example:
This links is posted in multiple threads:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8477356.stm
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/worl ... 510235.cms

Before 1962, the unhealthy interference of Krishnamenon in the workings of the IA along with downgrading of the capabilities of IA were a contributing feature to '62 debacle.
Similar interference is being noted now days along with maligning of the IA in the media.
Do the admins feel the need to create a thread as suggested

The first post of the PsyOps & Media thread has a link to the Previous thread.
However the link is corrupt.
How to access the previous thread?
I am searching for the posts on who owns media in india. Google is not returning the links that had well documented the owners.

Also somebody had posted a image linking the various media people. Where to find them?

Try and search for blogs and forums. You can easily find the tail of the elephant

YMMV. But some of them give you ideas to find the rest of the elephant.

I cannot provide links as the Admins rightfully consider it haram and unsubstantiated.

Question to Admins of BRF.

Does BRF tried at any time having its own portal?

If this is an idea thats been tried and dissolved ,then never mind.
IF NOT,

Why shouldnt we i means BR have our own portal covering all the military news and reporting with analysis?
Might be in the intial run BR portal can consider volunteers for reporting.Since there were so many BRF members living in different countries, some people can make it as a part time hobby seeking news in their areas thereby putting them together on BR portal might be with some video interviews of some high level establishments including the desi ones.
This way,we can get rid of DDM copy paste, while getting ourself involved in true jounalism and reporting and analysis which can be an eye opener for the billion plus population including that 200+ million internet users.

BR Portal can put on adds for seeking some revenue for managing the portal.

After all this is my early morning thought while having coffee :P
Comments welcomed.

With LCH flight test lurking around the corners, I do think that we need to have a separate thread for discussions of the related news and technologies so I would like to request Mods to make proper arrangements for the thread to happen and also not to be IB4TL'ed.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the BENIS thread use to be in the GD forum? How did it get out? :-?
Personally I love the thread but I would understand if a casual visitor is put off by that thread and decide not to register and be a part of this forum because of the thread. Perhaps its best left behind curtains.

how about a "image resizing by percentage" BBCode?
I wrote the following for my forum:

The BBCode is defined as:

Code: Select all

[imgr={NUMBER}]{URL}[/imgr]
The substitution is defined as:

Code: Select all

<IMG height="{NUMBER}%" width="{NUMBER}%" SRC="{URL}" />
Example:

Code: Select all

[imgr=50]http://URL.to.image.jpg[/imgr]

Would you refuse to deplane @ Mumbai Air Port because of the stench from the Slums nearby!

Would switching off of the runaway lights prevent the passengers from catching a glimpse of the slums at night!

If you love the thread, why would a casual visitor be put off to such an extent that he/she would decide not to register?

I have inside information that Eye Yes Eye agents complained to P Chidambaram that they could not access the thread without registering there by blowing their cover!

Since BRF is always a year ahead of the curve, BENIS got out exactly a year before Aman ki Asha.

sounds useful thanks. though I am not sure if the team wants to implement it. to allow the above we have to accept inlining of large sized images. I dont think thats something we want to do right now.

Would it KILL someone to fix the stoopid date problem?
Image

Because It is KILLING me!! At least remove the time zone thingie and claim that we believe in UTC. And yeah, fix the clock on the server, because it is off by like 10-15 minutes.

I mean, 3/4 of the members here are ITVty gurus who can probably fix it while gulping down a mug of beer, smoking a joint and <fill in the blanks>. It is a DISGRACE!! Get it? Dis-Friggin-Grace!!

I too agree with the date issue! I have myself raised this issue multiple times, but for some reasons, the mods are ignoring it. It is not rocket science, and shouldn't take more than a few minutes to fix it. How hard is setting the date/time properly in PhP?

Its not an issue with PhpBB, but something to do with the server. I have checked the settings and its the same on two different installations but works properly at the other installation but not here. unfortunately the moment it becomes some server config issue or some server - software conflict, it becomes rocket science!

It probably worth checking out on the phpbb support boards to see if others have a similar issue

To MODS

I have found over several days that some of my posts have been deleted , what I found common in them was that they were different from common media perception and they were not any posts having flame, abusive, rants etc words.

Is is that BRF is losing its 'independent' identity ,as a place where unbiased and free flow of thoughts can take place (the reason internet is known to exist, except china),but instead is it towing common (paid )news media channel lines ,and towing govt lines and subduing whatever different than the common sheep herd perception comes in??

Will this post be deleted as well??

Dear Mod/Members,

I have been lurking around BR since long have been member since last 1 year.

I always find that we while quoting the post of others tend to remove their name. I myself have done it few times.

Just curious why do we do so? Even if the post retain name of originator, it does not matter. Rather it becomes easier to relate.

I know it does not matter as such but just thought of asking

aha, but not quite. when people use this Image button the author's name is included by default such as {quote="author"........... {/quote} and the post will look like
author wrote:...........
in most cases however, quoting the complete post is unnecessary, therefore people copy paste the relevant sentence, embed them in quote tags {quote][/quote] using the button in reply box and can't be bothered to fill in the quote="author" part once again. then it looks like
somebody wrote something
like I did while replying to you in this post .

knowing whose post is being quoted is simple, 99% of the time it will be on same page or in the immediately previous one and the easy way to find out is to text search using the ctrl+f option.

One observation, today coincidently or cautiously name "Bharat Rakshak" is not automatically implying this is an independent unbiased media solely formed to discuss matters that affect "Bharat". Many members either run campaign of either 'GoI Rakshak' or 'BJP/Hindutva rakshak'. Perhaps the forum is largely influenced by individual's vision of their "Bharat".

I am not aware whether BR has ever claimed it should be an unbiased forum so nothing that I should complain. But just an observation...

There is also a multi quote feature that allows you to quote only portions of the original post, retain the authors name etc.. for that you have to go to the Reply button, in the next window, you will have to scroll down , select the line you want to quote and then click the quote button.
