This should not be a surprise - the IAF was also aware of the AN-12's potential as a bomber.
Here is the BR article -

not sure what you are saying

Assuming you meant An 32

potential is fine but long before it was mentioned in public this person was aware of the potential becoming reality

well I dont doubt for one minute that an-32s can carry bombs. so thats moot.

Any guesses? Strange commuter or a FLIR gimbal? It came in from flying over a forest area with known naxals.

No bro, see the difference in the chest patches of the Para and the Garud. Para has blue angle wings. The patch of garud is has more realistic wings.

IAF does come out with calenders. I've seen a couple in my son's school but unfortunately, I have no idea from where the school got hold of those calenders. Will ask around the school and see if someone can guide me.

The Indian Air Force and the Indian Army use different looking brevets for their qualified para jumpers. The army uses the one with the blue wings whereas the Air Force like all its other badges uses white wings. Therefore a badge of a para-commando( Army) will look different than a badge of a para qualified garud (air force). The only thing they convey is the person wearing is a qualified jumper. There are yet different badges for para jumper instructors.

IAF comes out with brilliant PR stuff, you should see the calenders, post cards etc. I had a HUGE collection of many years. All kinds stuff from mugs, to envelops and even those name stickers which we used yo put on our neatly (brown) covered notebooks in school. A lot of stuff is available at the Air force Museum gift shop at Palam.

^^^ I'm quite aware of the same and myself have( used to have actually) lot of this stuff. But the point is this: there are no outlets where you can go and buy this stuff. Bangalore is home to AF Training Command. Can I go to a designated counter and buy this/related stuff? answer is no. IAF tends to come out with limited number of items of various kind which tend to get distributed amongst a small group.

IAF coming out with these things for internal/limited distribution versus this stuff being available to aam junta are two different things. I'd give an arm and limb to get scale models of IAF fighters but they aren't available. Same for other stuff.

Indeed the An-32 photo seems photoshopped. The bomb equipped aircraft carry bombs on the fwd and aft fuselage. Bombs carried internally would have been crated for safety and you would have seen the crates fall away upon release.

Unless that thing under the fuselage is an external bomb rack.

the weapons bay in this case is nothing but the cargo bay. and as rupak said, there should be other stuff falling out of the rear.

To me the clincher is that all the bombs are neatly lined up , straight and closely bunched together while falling. an arrangement impossible to achieve when they are thrown out of the back.

The bombs are ejected out of the cargo bay just as supplies are dropped. how fast and how straight does that have to happen to get the bomb spread shown above?

it's very clearly a PS job. the cg of free fall bombs would very quickly turn them nose down in flight, it's clearly not the case here. look at the F-16 pic for comparison, the bombs are parallel to the aircraft which released them in a dive, there's no way a cargo bay ejection at slow speed would impart the same profile.

the An 32 would not release it in a dive.

So that does not conclusively say its PSed.

I think we still need to know how the AN 32 carries the bombs

racks? crates?

Dude, many thanks for the link.

Man, there is some serious photography talent in the Defence Services.

Great to see the Defence Services handing out such snaps from excercises.....it is great PR value. And help satiate the appetite of jingoes..... :D

Jokes apart, this is the first time I'm seeing a flogger with LGB mounted. Any idea what the targeting pod is in case of Floggers? Also, the IAF seems to be using some software for route planning.

Litening LDP is part of the cpmprehensive upgrade that the Floggers got.. Google for Mig27 upgrade - lot of info avialable. Look for "LDP" and "new weapons" in the upgrade brochures
Lot of DARE developed avoinics, RWR, SPJ etc were all first trialled on Floggers..

It would be a shame if they pulled the Floggers out of fire power demo.. wud have been nice to see the floggers flog the targets with LGB's..

not exactly crates - but boards is more like the correct explanaition.

There are external bomb racks as well for the An-32

I remember one of the recently published AFMs featuring the Bangladesh Air Force shows an An-32 with external bomb racks ith bombs mounted on them. essentially four bomb rails two front, two in the rear fuselage carrying four bombs.. I remember the pic was also posted here.

that said, I am yet to see a pic of IAF An-32 with bombs on its external bombracks.

There was a FPD in which the An-32's bombingwas displayed and can you believe it not one picture or footage emerged out of that !
