What is with this line of thought where Jingos think that MMS would barter away Kashmir for Nobel Piss prize. Where has the poor PM said anything along those lines except for regular sermons to all and sundry regarding how ready he is to smoke the peace pipe only if TSP would stop acting like a Fiend.

Pak cable operators start broadcasting IPL again
Bowing to public demand, the Cable Operators Association of Pakistan has started broadcasting the Indian Premier League after boycotting the first half of the event due to the snub given to the country’s cricketers at the IPL auction.
...
...
When no action was taken by the federal sports ministry or the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, the cable networks brought the Indian sports channel back to the top of their list this week.
“Bookies are stronger than the government and CAP,” said CAP official Shahzad Khan
...
...
“My staff received countless calls from across Lahore when we put the Indian channel showing IPL matches (towards the bottom of our list of channels). The viewers want us to place the channel higher on the list so that they do not miss a single match,” Khan told PTI
...
...
According to a senior police official, billions of rupees have been staked on the IPL matches.
“The book is being operated from Dubai and it is not easy to lay a hand on the people involved in this business here,” the official said.
Asad Afridi, a Lahore punter, said: “It has become a profitable business for those who know how to stake money on cricket matches. I spent two years learning this art and I have so far made Rs 500,000 by betting on the IPL matches.”

Three global financial firms fold up operations in Pakistan
Islamabad, Apr 10 (PTI):
As many as three global financial firms, including Citibank, Credit Suisse Group and JP Morgan have abandoned their brokerage operations in Pakistan's financial capital Karachi amid the nation's bleak economic situation, says a media report.
Citigroup has closed its equity research office in Karachi in March. However, the spokesperson of the US-based bank declined to comment on the development.
Switzerland-based Credit Suisse Group also shut down its research operations in the port city earlier this year, and that followed JPMorgan Chase's decision in late 2008 to suspend its brokerage operations in Karachi, the Wall Street Journal reported.
A spokeswoman for Credit Suisse said the bank closed its research division but was covering Pakistan companies from Singapore.
JPMorgan retains a seat on the Karachi exchange but is not active in Pakistan, a spokesman said.
The report described the closures as a "further blow" to Pakistan's financial community at a time when the country's finances are struggling.

As in Pakistan, so in this thread, the more pious always slaughter the less pious. A new thread on TSP is always guaranteed to be more pious than the earlier one.Pranav wrote:BTW, does all this piousness get lost and deleted forever?
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): Apr. 11, 2010
http://blogs.reuters.com/pakistan/2010/ ... old-start/
Western media survives by hype and sensationalizing. The authors in this forum are no different. They grow up through that system. They come from outside in and therefore lack the real perspective that we all have by growing up in the system. We have personal experience by being born and growing in it. They see it with a perspective that is skewed by their own upbringing. For example, the concept of India as one unit was a perspective from the time of the Greeks. Just like Africa appears as one entity to most of us, Africans can tell otherwise. India itself was made into one unit and kept as one by the British. I have read articles by the old British colonial masters who looked surprised about lack of patriotism amongst “Indians”. This is because they saw it as one nation.
Divide up the natives and turn them against each other to gain advantage has been their method and it has worked very well. The division of India and Pakistan, the support of regimes that sustained the antagonism and increase of the divide etc are still the same methods in operation. Only their safety and lives are important. So they write whatever would tilt things in their favor. The natives are still naive and fall for their patronage. If you read these articles you will see that they pretty much convey the same strategies of the Western powers. I have never seen one criticism of their own people and governments.
If if you read from the old articles here you will find their messages shifting from one extreme to another. First it is India’s fault, then it is Pakistan’s fault, then the road to Kabul runs through Kashmir, then it is only Af-Pak, then Taliban are nice guys after all, then Kashmir is still a problem, then India should wind down in Afghanistan, then Kashmir problem is really a water problem, and so on. There is no consistency or ethics involved. It is all propaganda of the Western powers coming through “independent” agencies like these.
You must take their words with a pinch of salt. Have you observed one thing here – they write something and let the Indians and Pakistanis run over each other with old issues that have no relevance to what they write. This clearly tells how in various ways we all are being manipulated. There are good things on both sides and we must try to share those things to come out of this mess. Relying on these people gives them an air of superiority.

Now on the lighter vein. Whole lot of LOLs about this news report on Pakistan's fashion show. The "innovative clothes" consist of...wait for it...wimmens in sarees with jasmine flowers in their hair. Reminded me of an exotic place of a bygone era - Like a chennai bus stand yesterday afternoon at 12. Cut to an auntiji with huge sunglasses reinforcing the message "Pakistan has got talent".

TSP Govt. will quiz AQ Khan at an 'appropriate time'
What about handing over the reported Indian support to Balochi rebels ? At an 'appropriate time'. AQ Khan ? At an 'appropriate time'. I think TSP is waiting for an 'auspicious time', not having forgotten their Hindu ancestry, perhaps.

Touching a raw nerve?
http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/daw ... -nerve-140
http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/daw ... -nerve-140
‘Let’s celebrate Pakistan Day’, I thought and wrote ‘Made in Pakistan’ for the March 23 week. I did not know that the column could elicit such loathing from across the border. “I think you forgot one thing, Pakistan exports terrorism, and the West pays her not to export it so it’s a win-win for Pakistan and every Pakistani should be proud of that,” mocked ‘One reader of your column’.
Another poison-tipped missile I got was from Prasad K. in India. “Pakistan and its people remind me repeatedly of the whiny little kid in a family that refuses to grow up. Even when this whiny kid is now separated and living all by itself, it blames its family, its neighbours, its friends, its enemies, just about everyone but itself, for all the troubles that are self-inflicted. India on the other hand is poised to take off. You can keep blowing each other up. Just don’t pull us into your quagmire.”
Whether or not these messages came from Bal Thackeray’s men, it’s clear they came from Pakistan-bashers.

^ I see deplorable low life dhimmis trying to suck up to Bakis by pulling down on Ambanis vis a vis Premji as if they know them in person . And that Jinnah bit on Premji' s father was really , that shows the real Baki color i.e. and blaming the events from distant past for their misery .

Praise be to almighty for the mandarins for the rigorous visa stamping procedures.Veer, Zaara And Visa
http://www.outlookindia.com/article.aspx?265011
Most “Indo-Pak” couples prefer to live in “neutral” third countries—like Sania will do, when she sets up home in Dubai—but quite a few also take the harder route of settling down in the subcontinent. And discover, in the bargain, that the main problem in their married lives is not one of making friends, adjusting to a new culture, or winning over your mother-in-law. Rather, it is the State, in the form of the harsh visa regime followed by both countries, which makes no concessions for cross-border romance.
For the past eight years that she has lived in India, Zainab has had to renew her spouse visa every year, and must begin formalities for renewal three months in advance. Every time she leaves the city, she reports to the police and also informs them when she is back in town. “Travelling is hard within the country, we end up going abroad more often,” she says. But even going home to Pakistan is a fraught affair. “The last time we travelled to Pakistan, my husband and kids got their visas, but I, with my Pakistan passport, was on tenterhooks about whether I would get permission to leave. Till the last minute, my plans remained uncertain,” recalls Zainab.
And yet, personal bonds appear to prevail over national enmities, and hope over everyday bureaucratic ordeals, since quite a few cross-border couples, including some who did not want to be quoted for this story, seem to want to make their lives here. “The people, culture, concerns, chemistry are the same,” says Masooma. “Visas are not easy to get in India, but in the US and the UK, the cultural gaps are harder to negotiate,” she says.
Sonya believes India, as a bigger and more stable power than chaotic Pakistan, can show the way forward by making it easier for the Pakistani wives of Indian men to live and work here. “It can come up with more responsible policies,” she says. Personal restrictions have a larger resonance too, Rajiv points out. “South Asia is an important trading bloc. Such bureaucratic restrictions are prohibiting artistic alliances and business partnerships.” Not to mention tormenting those who’ve chosen the difficult path of a cross-border marriage.

what a truckload of pakistaniat being served in the article
When Azim Premji’s father said no, and no again“Mr Jinnah had asked billionaire Azim Premji’s father to stay back in India to look after the welfare of Muslims in India.
Jinnah reportedly sought out Premji once again when he was forming the first cabinet in Pakistan to serve as his fnnance minister. But Premji rejected the offer and decided to stay on in India and nurture his oil business
http://www.indiajournal.com/pages/event.php?id=5921
The Premjis represent what Indian secularism should have been as envisioned by most Indians and not what is represented by the corrupt semi-literate Nehruvian leftists of the Congress Party, who spend more on vote-banks than terrorism. His late father, H.D. Premji, was an oil (vegetable) merchant in Bombay when India was partitioned. He rebuffed repeated urgings by Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan and a fellow Khoja, to become a minister in his new government. H.D. Premji told Jinnah that he did not want to live in a country (Pakistan) formed on the basis of religion. Azim Premji, a Stanford graduate, told the American journalist that he was overplaying “this Hindu-Muslim theme because we are all Indians.”

Could some guru kindly decode what the $#%^ is going on with these 2 ISI big daddies? The Taliban commander, who called The News from an undisclosed location, said Col Imam and his colleagues had spent a night with them in Mir Ali and interviewed Waliur Rehman. The next day, the commander said, the team left for the nearby South Waziristan under Taliban escort where they were still busy in their work. He dispelled rumours that Col Imam and his colleagues could have been kidnapped and were still missing.
“They trusted us and our people took them to our strongholds in South Waziristan where they are staying with us as guests,” the Taliban commander explained. He said their visit to Waziristan was planned and Taliban commanders were waiting for their arrival in Mir Ali. He said they knew Col Imam and his men were making a documentary for a foreign news channel and they happily consented to help them in their job as the Pakistani media had stopped covering their activities..

Shiv-ji is correct.
If I may decipher what he is trying to say. Possibility of another terrorist strike when the pak fauj is mobilized is high. More so when Umreekans and yindian leaders meet.
This is just pakistan's way of trying to make an == and try and disrupt the atmosphere a bit.

The Strategic US-Pakistani dialogue stopped the rudeness of US officials, however it did not produce any major results for Pakistan. All the pomp and ceremony played well for the Washington media gallery, but for Pakistani analysts, results is what matters. Mr. Mahmood Qureshi had emphasized results. If Pakistan does not get a Civilian Nuclear deal with Washington, it will not go well with the Pakistanis. The US would have made another strategic blunder which will haunt it for another generation.Washington needs to treat the Pakistanis with respect. For Pakistanis that means acceptance as a nuclear state, parity with Bharat, and recognition not criticism of its internal problems. Despite a major energy crisis, the US has not been able to bring any relief to the common man. The once pro-American elite is chagrined and alienated from the US.If a civil nuclear pact is reached between Pakistan and the US, China would face a little less pressure in responding to Pakistan’s requests for nuclear cooperation, he said.Yet, there will be more problems as far as the security situation in South Asia is concerned, he said.China-Pakistan ties have been a big concern for India. “Where will China-India relations go if China cooperates with Pakistan in civil nuclear deals?” Hu queried.“The situation is already complicated in South Asia. The US-Pakistan (likely) pact will only introduce more complexities,” Hu concluded. (ANI). US-Pak nuke deal will further complicate South Asian security, says Chinese expert
For Pakistan the best option is too go move full steam ahead and build the ECO, and join the SCO as a full fledged member. This would remove Pakistan as far away from Bharat as possible and keep it engaged in West Asia and the Greater Middle East

Inner Pakistan in spotlight at Washington nuclear summit

ISAMABAD (Reuters) – Pakistan will confront its reputation as a proliferator head-on this week when its prime minister addresses a global summit in Washington aimed at keeping nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists.
Arch-rival India and other critics could however undercut Pakistan by reminding the world of its nuclear smuggling, highlighting the Taliban insurgency and fanning fears of a Muslim country in chaos where militants could seize atomic material."India will demand restrictions imposed on Pakistan's nuclear program," said Shahid-ur-Rehman, a Pakistani journalist and author of "Long Road to Chagai," a book on Pakistan's nuclear program."Their main stress will be on securing Pakistan's nuclear assets by the world," he told Reuters."Pakistan's efforts will be to counter that and convince them that our National Command Authority, which oversees the country's strategic assets, is very effective and that our nuclear assets are safe and secure."Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani will speak at the summit after meeting President Barack Obama on Sunday. There are no plans for Gilani and his Indian counterpart, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, to meet, although the leaders of the nuclear-armed rivals may have a brief "encounter."

Meeting India
Chris Cork
You don’t come across many Indians in Pakistan. In fact thinking back over my years here, I don’t think that before last Wednesday I had met any. As in none. In almost 17 years. I suppose there may have been Indians at various diplomatic events I have attended, but I never got introduced, and I had lived in an Indian-free environment —until suddenly I was having breakfast with one. There she was. Coffee and croissants, and smiling at me and asking how I was doing. There were others as well. Seemed perfectly ordinary. Full complement of limbs and digits. None of them wearing RAW t-shirts, toting weaponry or waving a sheaf of conspiracy theories. They seemed suspiciously normal, but I wasn’t fooled — not for a moment. I saw through the camouflage to the secret agenda beneath, the hidden hands working in the half light, the subtle nuancing of phrase and intonation, all designed to bring the state crashing down around our ears and usher in a….well, I wasn’t quite sure what it was going to usher in, but you could bet your last rupee it was going to be bad news for us Pakis. They were pretty damn good at it, these Indians. Had a whole roomful of people foxed for a couple of hours while a TV channel (probably run by the CIA and Mossad) filmed the whole thing for presentation as evidence at later treason trials. Come lunchtime and they were still at it. Outgoing and friendly, talking apparent sense (in order to cunningly mask the mind-games beneath), and some of them eating what looked suspiciously like…errr…meat.

I just saw this, and I thought this is a very important question, because its important to look at how groups and movements can be 100% secular *and* 100% communal at the same time.Sum wrote:Can some kind soul kindly explain the meaning of the word "secular" to me( esp referred to in the bolded part)?
You can compare Bhindranwale's Sikh fundamentalist/theocratic Khalistan movement and the Congress Party. The Congress Party's ideology might be secular, but that secularism was no bar to a communal response to Indira Gandhi's assassination by her Sikh bodyguard.
Or for example, Buddhist religious chauvanism in Sri Lanka encouraged by Buddhist priests, versus the secular Singhala communalism of the Maoist JVP.
Communalism is often fundamentally about which community is dominant - and community can be defined along ethnic, religious, racial, or other lines.
So you can have religious communalism instigated by people are not practicing Muslims/Hindus/Buddhists/Christians, etc because of the political logic of power and power struggles.
In fact the very idea of the nation-state encourages communalism, because its based on the idea of conformity by people who have enough in common to form a coherent political entity.
Jinnah *may* have been secular (as Advani suggested), but he was committed to communalism, and so was the movement he helped build. That communalism has given way to the religious ideology used to mobilise communalism at the street level amongst the people who embraced the idea of Pakistan.
I think one could certainly say that there was a similar transition from the JKLF to HuM in Kashmir. The difference is that the transition from communalist Kashmiri nationalim to Pan-Islamism seems to have been driven by the desires of the Pakistani state rather than the Kashmiri Muslims. Many Kashmiris seem to have problems with the Indian state, but they also seem far less keen to participate in Pakistani based Pan-Islamist groups than Kashmiri nationalist groups. Otherwise Pakistan would not have had to send across so many Pakjabis, Pashtuns and other assorted types.

No compliance, no money
Shape up or ship out.
Shape up or ship out.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has conveyed to Pakistan that the Fund is not an economic arm of the US and will not be influenced by Washington with regard to giving relief to the country. The Fund wants 100 per cent compliance from Pakistan on the issue of implementation of VAT from July 1 and power tariff raise from April 1.
During the Pak-US strategic dialogue, Islamabad had asked the US authorities to influence the IMF for a waiver in the power tariff increase of six per cent due from April 1 and the implementation of the VAT from July 1, 2010.
“Following this attempt of Pakistan, the IMF conveyed to Pakistan that it is not the economic arm of the US and wants 100 per cent implementation. Otherwise, it will take back its entire amount from Pakistan, as it did with Russia. So, implement the programme in letter and spirit,” a close aide to theadviser to the prime minister on finance and revenue told The News.
Had the government been serious about implementing the VAT from the day one, it would have conducted a study on the subject whether it is inflationary or not and if it also suits Pakistan wherein the literacy rate is too low and agriculture is the main component of the economy.
Pakistan has failed to bring the net borrowing from the State Bank at zero at the end of the quarter, which is under review.
The government’s own survival lies in not raising the power tariff as the masses are already on the roads demonstrating against the government for want of electricity.

Actually the IMF is an arm of US foreign policy, a lot of nudge-nudge, wink-wink goes on with the backing of the US govt. So if the IMF is going to stick with its guns, I would anticipate Kiyani would have to go on a budget and share the wealth, otherwise abdul will go berserk.

The program singles out Star TV for corrupting Pakistanis.Bharath.Subramanyam wrote:
Can some one put the transcript of this urdu video ? Not able to understand every thing they speak.
As an example they show a boy of five or so who is able to parody the actions of a Hindu (May Death, Impotence and Cholera be Upon Them) Priest. The boy also plays with a doll and says that the doll is pregnant - using the standard words for that in Bollywood "..maa ban ne waali hai" ("is about to be a mother"). And what is most interesting is that the young Paki boy then takes a smaller sized doll and stuffs it up between the legs of the bigger doll (who is pregnant) As you know very well - you and I as Hindus (May Death, Impotence and Cholera be Upon Us) learned how to do this will dolls in temples when we were five. Star TV (May Death, Impotence and Cholera be Upon It) is now corrupting the pure Pakis. The boy repeatedly says the word "Pandit" (May Death, Impotence and Cholera be Upon Them) and parodies what they do on TV.
A girl then claims that she learns from Hindi serials and learns how to solve some problems by watching them. One young man admits that Hritik Roshan (May Death, Impotence and Cholera be Upon Him) is a role model while another man (possible a taiior) says that the costumes in Indian (May Death, Impotence and Cholera be Upon India) TV serials serve as inspiration for clothes. The girl also says that mummy has the TV on all day while the anchor person say that Indian TV is corrupting Pakistanis from 8AM to 11 PM.
The Mullah (May his tribe Increase) says that these serials are creating a distance between Islam and the people and that the "hatred for Hindus"- he uses the word "nafrat" meaning hatred will be reduced.

Yes just as HM government has resisted Catholicisation of Ireland by armed intervention on the side of its preferred communalists.

Readout of the President's meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Gilani
President Obama today met with Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani at Blair House on the margins of Pakistan's participation in the Nuclear Security Summit. The President was joined by Secretary of State Clinton and the Prime Minister was joined by Foreign Minister Qureshi.
President Obama began by noting that he is very fond of Pakistan, having visited the country during college. The leaders reaffirmed the positive relations between the U.S. and Pakistan, a relationship of significant importance because of the shared values of our countries and the fight we are both engaged in against extremists operating in South Asia. The President also noted that our multi-faceted and long-term strategic relationship goes far beyond security issues.
The President expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister for the quick reaction of Pakistani security forces to the terrorist attack on our Consulate in Peshawar on April 5 and expressed his condolences at the Pakistani casualties from that attack and the attack on a political event in Lower Dir on the same day. He commented that these two attacks on the same day are important to note because the extremists do not distinguish between us and we are truly facing a common enemy.
...
The Prime Minister noted that his participation in the Nuclear Security Summit comes at a time when popular support for the U.S.-Pakistan relationship is growing. By way of example, the Prime Minister noted that prior to embarking for the United States, he met with the National Command Authority, both houses of parliament, the political opposition, and military leaders. The President indicated his appreciation of that broad-based sentiment and used, addressing the topic of the conference, reasserted the importance of nuclear security, a priority he has reiterated for all countries. The Prime Minister indicated his assurance that Pakistan takes nuclear security seriously and has appropriate safeguards in place.
The Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation for the broad U.S. assistance program to Pakistan, a multi-faceted effort to make progress on various sectors including: economy, trade, education, infrastructure, security. He noted that energy is an existing and growing problem. The President reiterated that we are committed to helping Pakistan address its real and growing energy needs and noted that he is pleased that implementation is proceeding on the $125m in energy-sector projects Secretary Clinton announced in October.
