Man, I am a bit irritated with this Pallava Bagla ji, though he knows stuff, why is he so pessimistic. Always says "so far so good" and even after the succesful launch, he says "let me wait till ISRO chairman declares".

I think he's fine - it's natural not to get ahead of things. He wants to hear what the chairman has to say.

Somebody has to put Pallava Bagla where he belongs to. Full of pessimistic comments. Even after everything went fine, he says 'Let's wait and see'. What happened to him?

What is the need for Pallav Bagla to piss all over ISRO by declaring it not commercially viable in the middle of a launch? In fact there should be no need for any comments from him "during" the launch, all the chitchat can take place later.

I don't think he was dissing/pissing on anyone - he was just being circumspect, rather than giddy.

Congratulations ISRO, Done good again,

Its a busy time for ISRO with 2 more launches planned in the next 3 months, 1 x GSLV - GSAT and 1 x PSLV - RESOURCESAT2

The Chairman's parting comment was ISRO has understood the issues with the desi CUSP and ground tests will be carried out to validate the analysis." We will come back" he said with confidence.

ISRO ground control has commenced 3 axis stabilisation of CARTOSAT2B and it is going well. ISRO is confident of activating the payload and receiving the first pictures tomorrow.

Congrats ISRO & thanks SSSalvi for this thread!

I was on the phone with folks in Chennai and when they were talking about the launch, my heart skipped a beat (I wasnt following it on BRF). When they started talking about the Algerian satellite being successfully placed in orbit, I could breathe easy.

Young India's imagination is also fired. Students adding small payloads is a very good sign. The future of Indian space efforts is on the right track. Feels good.

Breaking News on IBN 7 says " PSLV ka Safal Parikshan " ; now parikshan means test launch...

It was not a Test Launch but a actual Launch... and word should be Prakshepan and not parikshan... :rotfl:

Hey SSSAlvi, if you know anybody at ISRO, can you strongly suggest to them that they put some cameras onboard the rocket itself, and give a live feed from them of the rocket's ascent to orbit?

They've used this rocket enough times that they should feel comfortable putting some cameras on it, to give us a better view. Otherwise, watching a plotgraph is a little sterile.

@ Sanjay

It was suggested long back .. they say weight problem.

They should know their trade best but also they should be open for suggestions.

Also who would like to take new added risk .. just for ( as they must be thinking ) 'silly' PR job?

Now the new generation seems to have taken over .. so hopefully ...

Let's wait and watch ( and pray ) that it happens soon.

PR is very essential howsoever silly it may appear.

Incidentally .. do we really gain any added info ( except for some scenic photos ) by adding cameras on vehicle? They have a few for launch monitoring on the launch pad in vantage locations. ( after all I too am a old stock from the same old crucible .. thinking of necessity .. the old Fiat/ambassador/lambretta/vespa/waiting at post office for hours for making a trunk call .. era person )

Salvi sir, another request. please get them to release some footage with the actual roar of the rocket in the background (and not the control room chatter to which TV channels add their own ramblings) for all these years of following launches on TV I'm yet to hear the rockets for once. even some downloadable footage on ISRO site would do, techie jingos will do the rest.

^
^ Speaking about size. :-?
'India losing satellites due to failure of imported components'
"It seems the culprit is imported components for satellite power systems. The Chandrayaan satellite was lost due to power problems in an imported component. It seems the culprit is the imported components used in supplying power to the satellites," an ISRO official told IANS over phone on condition of anonymity.

The DC to DC converter in the Chandrayaan satellite failed, which in turn heated up other components/equipments and stopped their functioning, ultimately forcing ISRO to junk the mission well ahead of its planned life of two years.

Another ISRO official, on condition of anonymity, said: "The component is imported as its size is small whereas the Indian built one is bigger. In space, every additional gram is important. The problem with INSAT-4B may not be connected to DC to DC converter and it is similar to the problem that afflicted W2M satellite."
Now eyes are on the successful operation of the to-be launched Hylas communication satellite built by ISRO/EADS Astrium for Britain-based Avanti Communications. Its success is expected to clear any doubts of India's capability in satellite manufacturing.

"We have taken care of the power supply glitches in that," an ISRO official said.

By now the sucessful launch of PSLV is a routene event. Hardly a news worthy event. 8)

Now I pray that Cryo stage also reaches the same level of maturity in its functioning.

Congratulations ISRO. Though congratulating ISRO for PSLV launch is getting boring., I want to see the Desi GSLV roar back!

Salviji, putting it on rocket may add risk for not much reward. Instead can they do very high speed digital cameras? This can be made into IMAX movies and shown as part of "science" programs around the world. The footage from ground requires better cameras and good editors that's all!

For example water discovery on moon can be made into 60 minutes science program with high fidelity high speed footage of ISRO launching PSLV (with India and our emblem) emblazoned in full glory as part of Chandrayaan launch. Sends very sublimal messages.

Can we have some detail on the Orbits of this satellite? Are all three(Cartosat 2,2a,2b) in the same orbit or criss crossing.
