The Shia’s characterise the Muslim on Muslim killings in Karachi as genocide and claim that the Government of Sindh is complicit with the Sunni Muslim dominated “Punjabi Taiban” in this act.

Having torn themselves apart from India on the basis that the Muslims of what is now Pakistan will be unable to co-exist with Non Muslims, the Muslims of Pakistan despite having an “Islamic Republic” are likewise clearly unable to peacefully coexist with others of their own religion who belong to a different sect

Leaders of Jafaria Alliance Pakistan (JAP) and Shia Ulema Council (SUC) on Friday condemned the genocide of Shia Muslims in Karachi .......................

Addressing the demonstration Jafaria Alliance Chief Allama Abbas Kumaili, Allama Aftab Haider Jafari, Maulana Hussain Masoodi, Allama Furqan, Allama Jafar Raza and others termed that the target killing of Shia Muslims in the metropolis is the failure of Sindh Government. ............................

They also alleged that some senior people of the government of Sindh had visited the headquarters of the terrorist groups in the past, and that “these people might have been involved in the recent target killings of the Shia community”.

Shia leaders demanded of the president, the prime minister, the chief justice and the chief of the Army staff that an army operation be conducted at the hideouts of the banned outfit all over Sindh “to combat terrorism and eliminate Punjabi Taliban from the country”.

The Jafferia Alliance alleged that Punjabi Taliban were involved in the killing of Shias and warned the government of Sindh to “refrain from patronizing the banned terrorist organizations”.

The meeting observed that terrorist groups were involved in “the genocide of the Shia community” and the silence of the government proved that “it also supported the banned outfit”.

The participants of the meeting also claimed that they had informed the government in advance about the activities of terrorist groups, especially the Punjabi Taliban, who, for the last one month, had targeted Shia youths. However, they added, the government did not pay heed to the JAP warning, as a result more than 10 Shia youths, including doctors, became victims of this spate of targeted killings.

On the one hand, the Punjabi Taliban were busy “in the genocide of Shias”, while on the other hand the government was avoiding taking action against these groups which seemed that “the Sindh government is being run by these terrorist groups and Punjabi Taliban”, they alleged. ..............................

Canada’s National Post on the “religiously motivated revenge killings” in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan that has pitted Sunni Muslim motorcycle borne assassins against Shia Muslim motorcycle borne assassins and vice versa.

The National Post reports that Muslim on Muslim violence pitting the Sunni’s against the Shia’s and ethnic violence pitting Muslim Mohajirs against Muslim Pathan / Pushtun has apparently claimed 21 lives over the past fortnight in Karachi.

For a country claimed to have been formed as a safe haven for the Muslim’s of the Indian sub-continent Islam certainly does not seem to act as a binding glue and indeed goes to the other extreme of actually fuelling blood letting:

Okara landlord punishes 43 Christians as punsihment

A landlord based in Okara has allegedly detained at least 43 Christians of a family after his daughter eloped with a Christian boy a few days back.

The landlord has threatened killing all the detainees if the couple is not handed over to him.

Irshad said Ashraf’s armed guards were manning the area around the detainees’ houses and have warned of burning the people alive in their houses if the family failed to produce the eloped couple.

Some statistics regarding the persecution of Muslims of the Ahmadi / Ahmadiyya sect by their Muslim co-religionists in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

While the the Ahmadi / Ahmadiyya sect of Islam undoubtedly faces the systematic and institutionalized discrimination of the Pakistani State, the degree of violence directed against them is quite low from the standpoint of violence unleashed against the minority Shia Muslim sect in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Fundamentalist terrorism shows its ugly face at a pacifist sect ..............................

In the period 1984-2009, 105 Ahmadis were killed, according to two authors writing in Viewpoint, a Pakistani online magazine. “During the same period, 22 Ahmadiyya mosques were demolished, 28 were sealed by authorities, 11 were set on fire, and 14 were occupied while construction of 41 was banned. In at least 47 cases, burials were denied in common grave yards while 28 bodies were exhumed,” the two wrote.

Since 2000, an estimated 400 Ahmadis have been formally charged in criminal cases, including blasphemy. According to one report, in 2009 at least 37 Ahmadis were charged under the general provisions of the blasphemy laws and more than 50 were charged under specific provisions of the law applying to Ahmadis. Many remain imprisoned.

Both printed and electronic Pakistani media have played a scandalous role in spreading hatred against the community. Recently, the Muslim Canadian Congress (MCC) blamed major media outlets in Pakistan for inflaming rhetoric against Ahmadiyya, Ismaili and Shia Muslims. In particular, the MCC pointed out that GEO Television has become the voice of al-Qaeda and the Taliban and spreads hate against these communities as well as against non-Muslims.

According to one report, “After the attacks some newspapers ran op-ed articles creating an impression as if these attacks were a violent consequence of the ongoing polemic between certain Muslim sects and the Ahmadiyyas.” ....................................

In an incident which showcases the brutal hatred with which Hindus are seen in Pakistan, at least 60 members of the minority community, including women and children, were forced to abandon their house in Karachi's Memon Goth area just because a Hindu boy drank water from a cooler outside a mosque.

Local tribesman, who hold a good clout in the area, thrashed several Hindus forcing them to run away and take shelter in a near by cattle pen, The News reports. "All hell broke loose when my son, Dinesh, who looked after chickens in a farm, drank water from a cooler outside a mosque. Upon seeing him do that, the people of the area started beating him up," said Meerumal, a resident of the area. "Later, around 150 tribesmen attacked us, injuring seven of our people, who were taken to the Jinnah Hospital," he added.

Meanwhile, Minority Affairs Minister Dr Mohan Lal has assured Hindus of full government protection. "I have directed the DPO and the SHO to ensure that these people go back to their houses safely," Lal said.

From Pakistan, a human rights activist has sent me a sickening account of a Christian whose wife and four children were killed last month in Jhelum. Apparently, Jamshed Masih, a Christian policeman, was told to move from the predominantly Muslim colony where he and his family lived.

Before the attack, Masih’s 11-year old son went to a local shop, and was refused service on the grounds that he was a non-Muslim. On his return, locals led by Maulana Mahfooz Khan entered the house, asserting that the boy had committed blasphemy and must be punished. Mrs Masih pleaded with the mob, and asked them to wait until her husband returned, but somebody threw an object at her head. Her daughter managed to call her father, but by the time he returned, his family had all been massacred.

The head of the local police station has refused to register a case against the killers, saying: “Khan is an influential man, and he said your son has committed blasphemy – we cannot do anything against him.” The police officer added: “I am a poor man, I have a family, and I was pressured by higher authorities not to register the FIR [First Information Report].

A suspected sectarian attack on a civilian convoy in a troubled tribal area of Pakistan has left 16 dead. ………………

All those killed were Shia Muslims, according to local officials, who said the death toll may rise.

The convoy was heading from Parachinar, in Kurram, to the main regional city of Peshawar when it was ambushed on Saturday in the predominantly Sunni region.

The Kurram tribal district has been a flashpoint for violence between the minority Shias and the Sunni community for several years…………………..

Safe Recovery of Veerji Kolhi demanded

Number of human rights activists, journalists and civil society members on Saturday held a protest demonstration in front of National Press Club Islamabad, demanding President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Federal Minister for Minority Affairs, and IG Sindh, to help recover Veerji Kohli and save his life.

Veerji Kolhi senior member of HRCP Hyderabad has been missing since Thursday, August 19.

Raees Bachal Khoso for the last couple of weeks, who has the support of Ghulam Qadir Mari to take a police case back, was threatening Kolhi.

Protestors said that if people like Veerji were punished by the influential feudals for siding and helping out vulnerable haris and protecting their dignity then no one would dare to help any one out.

Kolhi attended last program at press club Hyderabad at 4:00 pm on Thursday, he left the press club at 6:35 pm and since then he is missing and his mobile phone is off. There has not been any contact with him since then.

Dr Farzana Bari in a media briefing said that Kohli was a senior Human Rights Activist. He played a leading role in getting justice for Kolhi.

A young girl who was gang-raped in Mokario, a small village near Nagarparker, Sindh. The local police had refused to register the case; Kohli with his partners in solidarity took the issue to provincial assembly and national assembly that culminated in IGP special inquiry board, including three DPO.

Bari said these officials were surprised at the blatant lies and cover-ups by the police of Nagarparker. As a result they suspended SP of Chachro and head moharir of police station Nagarparker. They also terminated Station House Officer and Investigation Officer of police station Nagarparker.

The Parliamentary Committee on Minority Affairs headed by MNA Mahesh Kumar Malani took a serious note of the case and asked all the relevant parties to present their point of view. They appreciated that the senior level police intervention took strong action on the unethical and criminal behavior of police. They also instructed senior officials to get a proper medical checkup of the victim and take a detailed statement of the girl in the presence of a woman police and report back. Kohli was asked to give a presentation on the case to this committee in Islamabad and were impressed by his efforts and conviction. The members were upset with the senior police officers for siding with the influential landlords and skewing the case.

The rapists Khoso and Verio Guraro were arrested. The other two rapists, Habibullah and Ghulam Nabi, two older brothers of Khoso ran away and were pursuing bail. They have got interim bail from the high court.

A few days ago Khoso accompanied by people of Ghulam Qadir Mari, visited Veerji in his Mehergarh office in Hyderabad and threatened dire consequences if he failed to persuade Kasturi Kolhi and her parents for compromise. They continued threatening him till the other day. Bari said we fear that Veerji ha been kidnapped by the men of Khoso and his life is in serious danger.

A seven-year-old Pakistani girl and her family have been given asylum in Canada after reports the child was raped and left to die when her Christian father refused to convert to Islam.

The identities of Baby Neeha and her family are being protected by immigration officials, said human rights lawyer Chantal Desloges and One Free World International, a church that was instrumental in getting the family here.

The family arrived in Canada on Dec. 12 after a three-year battle by organizers to spirit them out of danger in Pakistan.

They are living in the Mississauga area and will be visited next month by Immigration Minister Jason Kenney, who was so touched by the family's plight that he doled out a ministerial permit, of which he has only issued two.

Church founder Rev. Majed El Shafie said the family of seven have been hiding from extremists in Pakistan for about three years.

Baby Neeha, at the age of 21/2, was raped by the son of her father's employer and left to die by the roadside, he said. No one was arrested for the crime.

"These horrific events took place because her father, who was Christian, refused to give in to pressure from his Muslim employer to convert to Islam," El Shafie said.

The family went underground in Pakistan to hide from Muslim extremists who were seeking revenge for their non-conversion, he said.

"The family has lived for years in hiding and in constant fear of being discovered by the employer's family or Islamic extremists," El Shafie said. "We are thrilled that she's finally in Canada."

Organizers said the case touched Kenney who decided to help the family.

"This case truly broke his heart and he (Kenney) considers himself lucky to have it within his powers to intervene," Kenney's spokesman Alykhan Velshi said yesterday. "Fortunately, they are now safely in Canada."

Kenney found out about the family's plight six months ago, Velshi said.

"He personally issued a special ministerial permit," he said. "There were significant difficulties in getting them out of Pakistan."

The family can now apply for permanent residency on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, Velshi said.

Some miscreants in Shah Latif Town of Pakistan allegedly set a church on fire, fuelling a wave of anger and tension among Christians residing in that area.

According to police, Priest Peter Shahzad filed an FIR, complaining that some unidentified persons entered the church located near Chowkandi Graveyard, Sector 19-B in the Shah Latif police jurisdiction, and torched it before fleeing, the Daily Times reported.

Several sacred and holy books were burnt, hurting the religious sentiments of local Christians. Following the incident, police registered FIR No 676/10, and dispatched a heavy contingent of policemen to the area to avoid any major incident or rioting.

KARACHI: Violence claimed the lives of nine more people in Karachi on Monday.

Three people were shot dead during violent protests that erupted after the funeral of another target killing victim, Tanvir Abbas Rizvi, who had been gunned down on Sunday. Following the funeral in Rizvia police precincts in Liaquatabad Town, protesters took to the streets and set many vehicles on fire.

Witnesses told Daily Times that Rangers, who were deployed at the spot, opened fire on the participants. Nasir Ali, 20, son of Wahid Ali, and Akbar were killed, while around half a dozen were wounded in the firing. Another protester Shahzaib Abbas was later shot dead at the Rizvia stop.

Miscreants later set fire to five vehicles, 15 roadside stalls and various shops in the Golimar and Rizvia areas and one passenger bus in Abul Hassan Isphani Road.

Police and Rangers were deployed in the areas to bring the situation under control.

Leaders and clerics of the Majlis-e-Wehdat-e-Muslimeen, the Jafferia Alliance Pakistan and the Imamia Students’ Organisation condemned the deaths. “We will march with the bodies of the victims to the Rangers Headquarter to stage a protest today (Tuesday), if the government does not fulfill our demands by taking action against the personnel,” said Shia clerics.

On the other hand, Rangers personnel said that they had only fired in self-defence after the mob attacked them. ………………….

Badin police recovers 28 peasants from private prison

BADIN: Police raided a privately-run prison of a local landlord and recovered 28 haris (peasants), including women and innocent children, from Tando Bago tehsil of Badin on Wednesday.

The raid was conducted after Arjun Bheel submitted an application to District and Session Judge of Badin, saying that a landlord, Haji Mir Jamali, subjects his haris to torture in his jail.

On this, District and Session Judge Ali Bohio ordered the Tando Bago police to recover the haris from the illegal confinement and produce them before court.

As a result, police today recovered the haris and brought them before Judge Ali Bohio. The court asked them to live their lives freely.

The released haris include 11 children, eight women and nine men, who later held a demonstration in front Badin Press Club against the cruel police behavior.

The protesters said that police had subjected them to torture and snatched their valuables.

They also called for strict action against the landlord for keeping them in illegal confinement. SAMAA
