I agree with SwamyG. We shouldn't quit, just when we are about to rule it...

Indian shooter Heena Sidhu's medals missing
New Delhi: Pistol shooter Heena Sidhu's bag, containing the gold and silver medals won by her during the Commonwealth Games, went missing Wednesday when she placed her bag in the scanner during a routine security check at the Games Village here, police said."The authorities have made an announcement at the Village about the incident and the probe is on into the matter," a police officer said.Patiala girl Sidhu won silver medal in the 10 metre air pistol competition at the Karni Singh Shooting Range Wednesday
Re: Commonwealth Games-New Delhi 2010
rgsrini, you are correct. 100 assured + 1 more possible.
Re: Commonwealth Games-New Delhi 2010
I was just offering another side . I have been an advocate of quitting the Commonwealth.rgsrini wrote:I agree with SwamyG. We shouldn't quit, just when we are about to rule it...
Re: Commonwealth Games-New Delhi 2010
A 4th or 5th place finish in the Asian Games should be a realistic aim. (After PRC, SKo, JPN and possibly Kazakhstan)
Re: Commonwealth Games-New Delhi 2010
Was in attendance at the Boxing stadium today.
Nice stadium, all paid tickets were sold out. The reserved area was half empty. Obviously people with free passes couldn't bother to show up.
The volunteers are well behaved and polite.
Felt cheated by one game since the first opposing boxer didnot showup. No reasons given, however he came to collect his Silver medal. When the first short height indian boxer entered the ring, he did an acrobatic flip over the ropes to jumpin, and then slipped and fell! was a funny sight! Even his coach was laughing! And then we all cheered when he got the gold.
Best thing is that everyone sings the national anthem and not just stand mum.
The superheavy weight boxer was thinner and weaker looking than the Trinidad and Tobago boxer who came in to the venue in a hooded jacket, looking every part as mike tyson to the crowds gasps. He looked menacing in his demeanor. Our own boxer came in with a towel loosely thrown on his shoulder, like a true SDRE village folk only.
And against expectation we won! I say this because the Tongo chap had muscles that showed. Indian had no such physique! Yippiiiieee!
Every english boxer was greeted by loud Boos! Irish boxers was cheered, even slogans used were: 'Jeetega bhai jeetega, Neeli chadhi wala jeetega' for the irish! The second irish boxer was hit hard & he fell to the ground with a loud thud. He retired from the match after that.
It was well managed , occasioanly the boxers would get lost & repeated announcemens were made for them to showup & collect the medals! This also happened for the last superheavy weight 91+ Kg Indian boxer who was repeatedly called out for.
All was fine expect midway, the police & volunteers brought in a dozen rustic SDREs who were clearly not in possession of the Rs1000 ticket and allowed them to sit infront of the 1st row. These guys were badly behaved and jump around and pulled at the boxers when they came to shake hands and were a nuisance. This should clearly not be allowed.

But i am confused. Car keys are not allowed inside the stadium. Then after parking the car at the parking venue, what am i to do with the keys?!

SwamyG,
I still think we should enjoy being the big fish in a small pond when we have an opportunity to do so. Being part of the commonwealth (however irritating the name and symbolism may be) is part of our history and there is no denying it. I wouldn't like to deny our atheletes one more opportunity to compete against international atheletes and win. It would be like cutting off our collective noses to spite the face.
RahulM,
Hoping it turns out to be 3 golds and 2 bronzes. What does the mind know... It just hopes what it wants to hope, I guess.

Only expectation about gold is from Saina Nehwal now in Badminton single. Otherwise we should be happy at being 3rd rank. Eng is way ahead in silver.
Re: Commonwealth Games-New Delhi 2010
Aus ahead in hockey by 5-0, trouncing India
Re: Commonwealth Games-New Delhi 2010
seems to a good gap between the teams at this stage. time for lesser targets like top4 in champions trophy to work our way back up.
the backpacks are finishing in 17th place - behind cyprus and samoa.
are the angrez getting any gold shold today?

Re: Commonwealth Games-New Delhi 2010
Rhythmic gymnastics is a possibility for England, but Canada and Australia are the big powers.
If Saina wins gold and English don't win any, we'll squeak ahead into #2 slot with 38 golds.

Re: Commonwealth Games-New Delhi 2010
England also has a chance at gold in the men's singles badminton. Have to get past the Malaysian world #1, though.
Edited: Never mind. Malaysian won! So, if Sania wins the gold then there is a good shot we sqeuak by to #2.

Now that we have been raped in the hockey final, we need the English men's doubles badminton team to lose and then for Saina to do her bit.

The Ozzies really nailed us in the Hockey.....in front of a full house, too....How come they are so good at this?
Re: Commonwealth Games-New Delhi 2010
for some decades now they seem to have blended both the 'asian' stick skills with european running power if we look back to rick charlesworth days...they just do not depend much on penalty corners like dutch and germans used to do, but good overall.
whatever system they have works - so we must study it carefully...
