If true so who will be blamed for this?? :P

the Russians since according to the Rodina lovers they gave us so much which obliges us to ignore their faults everywhere else??

The Navy - since it was involved with it all the way through

the Indian agencies??

This will be interesting - my bet is it will blamed on the Indian agencies (dock, suppliers whoever)

Without knowing the actual issue with ATV and if that news is indeed true , it would be just speculation on my part but I think the first of the class is always a challenge to deal with.

The Borei too was rolled out in April 2007 but the actual sea trial started in June 2009 almost 2 years after initial roll out , problem attributed amongst others to her new gen reactor

So the Russians are not going to claim that it was the over-smart, hard bargaining dock workers that caused the problem with the Arihant?

Even if Arihant will be restricted to TD status until other classes of SSBN/SSN are perfected, they can still be used for special intel gathering purposes. At that point in time, cram its innards with customized Samyukta and pack off to South China Sea. It will not be expected to sprint at combat speed either.

I still stand by my words.

Everything going fine. As in any Project minor hick ups do come and they have already been taken care.

Close monitoring is being done to achieve the schedule. the next one is moving at great pace based on the learning of the Arihant.

Cheers!!!

A very good idea.Hope IN has plans along these lines.Only thing to be in consideration is that the airframe should have no problems in maintanence after induction. The rest of the electronic surveillance and warfare gear can be customised relatively easily,i guess.

Kit,

You have been taken in by the used Russian military hardware sales man. Never mind the fact that they will take forever & gazallions of $ to modify. Never mind that this would be a single vendor deal. Minus the RFI/ RFP.

The K-15 has been tested 8 times in various versions over the years and its ready now? Wow!! But what do we need a 200 km, 500 ton warhead air launched missle for when there is the 300 km , 300 kg Brahmos. With just 200 km range the Su30-MKI would have to get real close to a target. So no use as a nuke missile.

Well a little teaser :). It starts like this:

In a dramatic breakthrough in its nuclear offensive capability, India has successfully tested a submarine-launched ballistic missile(SLBM) with an eventual range of 3,500 km. Tested secretly off Visakhapatnam in January this year, the 10-m long and 1.3 m wide missile emerged from a pontoon submerged 50 m underwater and breached the surface.Painted black and white so that i can be distinguished in water, it has passed a critical parameter......

and so on and so forth...............................

In the works is an as yet unnamed longer-legged variant of the k-4 with a 5,000-km range. The 12 m long missile is meant to arm future nuclear submarines.

Vril,
Hajaar shukriaz! Jingo kush hua!

Hmm,
Sandeep Unnithan's / India Today's graphics artist has a serious case of Copy-amreekanitis!
He's copied the US Polaris A-3 sub-launched missile down to its color scheme and tried to pass it off as the K-4.

Thank you Vril.

If this is true, it would mean a lot. But I am wondering why the government would let it come out of the wraps now?

Or will it change the name again  .

I am hoping the same level of speed in the UAV/UCAV. Imagine suddenly in Aero India '13 or '15 we see a jet powered long endurance UCAV.

Is it possible to use the photo extrapolate the length of Arihant? This is the clearest picture yet.

Loved the picture of Arihant. Fills me with pride and joy to see this beauty. Thanks a lot.

It is now time for India to concentrate on MIRV and increasing the tonnage of the warhead. With a 5K range missile successfully demonstrated, we might need some 7.5K range missiles only.

Developing a air-to-ground K-4/15 equivalent would be tough but still doable. Hopefully our experience with Brahmos would have given us some help.

Don't agree on Prithvi though. It will serve out against Pakistan and the Chinese forces in Tibet. What we will need are supersonic/hypersonic cruise missiles which are capable of preventing China from reinforcing its troops in Tibet and Xianjing.

The K-4 tests described in the article seem to be pop-up tests rather than full fledged tests involving the missile travelling a distance of 2000+ km. The latter type of tests cannot be secret: NOTAM has to be issued and so on....

This picture is the same picture that was released by India Today a few months ago. India today had put a blue color (photoshopped) the background completely then.

There was a lot of ro-dho on BRFata when some agni-2s 'failed' to reach their range.

Now it seems those several agni and prithvi tests were tests of these missiles.

More and more convinced it is desi in design, based on extrapolation it looks Los Angeles class.
Hope it is in the 10K range when submerged - That will be an awesome achievement for India. It will freak the living daylights out of the Chinese & Pak.

Sorry if posted before

Building on heritage
Its involvement extended to India’s first indigenously built nuclear powered submarine, Arihant, for which it supplied the steam turbine integrated with the 85 MW pressurized water reactor on board.
