Relatives of two New Yorkers murdered in a Hasidic center during the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai, India, have sued Pakistan’s intelligence agency and the Kashmir-based terror organization that was reportedly behind the operation.

Gavriel Noah Holtzberg, a rabbi originally from Brooklyn, and his pregnant wife, Rivka, were gunned down when terrorists stormed the Chabad Lubavitch center in a commando-style attack that also killed the couple’s unborn child.

The Holtzberg’s 2 year-old son survived the attack after being rescued by an employee. He now lives with his grandfather in Israel, who filed the suit in Brooklyn federal court.

The lawsuit names Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency, several ranking ISI officials, and Lashkar-E-Taiba, a terror group that operates in Kashmir, the disputed territory over which both Pakistan and India claim sovereignty.

The wrongful death suit asks for unspecified damages and cites claims that the ISI has worked closely with the Lashkar-E-Taiba group.

James Kreindler, the attorney who filed the suit on behalf of the Holtzberg’ family, also handled a successful civil suit against the government of Libya and its intelligence agencies after the 1988 terror attack that brought down Pan Am Flight 103 over the town of Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 270 people.
A call to Pakistan’s embassy in Washington, D.C. was not immediately returned.
May the lawsuit proceed at full speed and no judicial or US Dept of State obstacles!

It is quite amazing to see that the idea of "de-hyphenating" India and Pakistan first talked about on BRF has made it to the main stream media now.

X Posted from the Oppression of Minorities in Pakistan thread.

In the Islamic Republic of Pakistan members of the minority Sikh religion are prevented from carrying out their religious practice by the Government.

In the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is it halal for Dhimmi’s to demand to be treated on par with the Momin :?: :
Sikhs protest govt decision to bar 'Palki' procession in Pak

……………. Pakistan Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee president Sardar Bishon Singh said that if Muslims are freely allowed to observe their rituals, there should be no restrictions on Sikh festivals in the name of security.

"People from the Barelvi school of thought have taken out religious processions on the occasion of the birthday of Prophet Mohammed with security and the same facility could be extended to Sikhs," Singh argued. ………………

NYT reports that the TSPA/ISI brains have made fools of Unkil's "let's talk to the Taliban" group.

Apparently, they sent some random Abdul instead of a senior Taliban leader in the "peace talks" with Unkil and Karzai. What's more, Unkil apparently paid $$$$ to this impostor. The money is no doubt being used to buy weapons to kill Americans, as I type this.

We can always count on Unkil to do such things!

I wonder if anybody watched Fareed bhai on CNN yesterday. There was one guy who echoed what I have been saying for a long time; all this Al Queda BS is just bogus, AfPak is basically about USA's H&D in not leaving the impression that it tucked its tail between its legs and ran away. They used the word USA's "credibility". But what I don't get is this. How is USA's H&D or credibility served, namely, that it was one up over the Russians if they cut a deal with TSP/Talibunnies and create a fiction that they won? Whom are they trying to fool? The gullible US public? For sure not TSPA/ISI/LET/Talibunnies.

More Military Aid to Pakistan?

Despite its indispensable role in the war in Afghanistan, Pakistan's own stability is in doubt and military aid has been of limited utility. Since 9/11 the United States has delivered over $18 billion in aid to Pakistan, about two-thirds of which has been military. As illustrated by the recent bombing of the Criminal Investigation Building in Karachi which killed 20, American aid has not enabled Pakistan's security forces to control the violence. Instead, Pakistan has become a base for terrorism not only targeting the Pakistani state but also India, as demonstrated by the 2008 Mumbai massacre and a deadly series of 2006 commuter train bombings in Mumbai which killed over 200 people. India's response to these attacks has been muted, but its restraint is finite. Open hostilities with its neighbor to the east would be devastating for Pakistan, and could even trigger a nuclear exchange.
Although several thousand Pakistani soldiers have died fighting Islamist extremists, the Pakistani security establishment has been slow to adopt counter-insurgency methods of war fighting. Instead, it has preferred to continue its India-centric focus. Investigations of U.S. military aid intended to help Pakistan fight the Taliban find that it is often re-purposed to counter India. "I'll be the first to admit, I'm India-centric" Pakistani army chief of staff Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani told Bob Woodward in his latest book, revealing a long-term strategy that is at odds with US interests.Pakistan's ongoing use of Islamist terrorists as proxies against India is especially troubling. President Zardari, who has stated "the undeclared policy of running with the hare and hunting with the hound was abandoned," claims that Pakistan has turned against Islamist militants. But Pakistan's generals have not received the memo, as investigations into the Mumbai attack show that links between at least some elements of the ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba continue.

Pakistan hits back at American support for India by stopping al-Qaeda offensive

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... nsive.html
Pakistan has indefinitely delayed an offensive against insurgents along the Afghan border in protest at American backing for India to win a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, military officials said.

U.S. President Barack Obama and India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Hyderabad House in New Delhi Photo: REUTERSRob Crilly in Islamabad 7:07PM GMT 22 Nov 2010
Washington has been pressing Pakistan to clear out al-Qaeda and Taliban groups from safe havens in North Waziristan, from where insurgents can attack Nato forces in Afghanistan.

Relations between the US and Pakistan have soured in recent weeks with a series of diplomatic wrangles over cross-border raids by US forces, drone strikes and President Obama's focus on India.

Pakistan has also rejected an American request to allow drone strikes around the city of Quetta, thought to be home to the Afghan Taliban's senior leadership.

The latest snub comes at a time when the US is determined to show signs of progress in the war against insurgents ahead of a long-awaited military review of its strategy in Afghanistan.

But Pakistan military chiefs say they are unable to open a fresh front while they are still heavily committed to operations elsewhere in the country's lawless border regions.

Barack Obama's recent support for India's UN bid has compounded Pakistan's fears over its rival's designs in Afghanistan.

"The main reason is that they would need about three divisions to be successful, and there would be political and terrorist attacks to deal with," said a military official.
Officials now say they are unlikely to be ready to move into North Waziristan within the next four to six months

Marvi! Busted!! (no pun intended). Marvi Memon is cheating in internet politics
Apparently, she faked her popularity. She, ofcourse, follows the great paki tradition kept alive by politicos since Djinnah's time.

(You will have to overlook the quality of reporting but please enjoy the wet towel free for all)
If we see the situation in Pakistan, then ethical values are on a decline in our society. It is now a common norm in our society to achieve our goals and destinations by cheating and frauds.
The seasonal companions of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah often used to boast themselves by taking credits of the works of Muhammad Ali Jinnah only by cheating. Because the new generation was not aware of 100% works of Quaid, that’s why they often used to make fool the new generation and cheat with them.
So, whats the beef with Ms. Marvi?
First surprise is that she shows that she herself writes in her website and blogs is a big lie. According to some resources she has hired two internet familiar boys which run her agenda on her website & blogs by using her name.
But the second surprise, which is her biggest cheating, is that the twitter account of Marvi Memon is being operated by those 2 boys under unethical standards.Till recent, Marvi Memon has 6094 followers on Twitter. That is a big quantity as there are very less twitter profiles that have so many followers. But I was shocked to know that a lot of her followers are fake profiles. Even the resources opened the secret that more than 5800 followers of Marvi on Twitter are fake profiles generated by those 2 internet familiar boys which are hired by Marvi Memon. The same fake profiles generated by Marvi’s hired persons themselves also added Marvi on facebook to show that she has a large number of fans. From same IP addresses thousands of Facebook profiles are also generated. Those 2 hired persons by Marvi daily generate new dozens of fake profiles to increase the fan number of Marvi on Twitter & Facebook.

Peshawar, Nov 22 (PTI) Pakistani security forces today arrested a key leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami, the country''s main politico-religious party, from a former Taliban hub in the restive Swat district and took him to an undisclosed location for questioning.

Sanaullah Farooqi, an important figure in the Swat chapter of the Jamaat-e-Islami, was nabbed by security forces in Matta sub-division, once a stronghold of Taliban fighters led by radical cleric Maulana Fazlullah, sources said.
Question: what is PTI doing there?
A recent visit by this PTI correspondent to the Malakand division, which includes Swat district, revealed that the Taliban no longer have control of the area where they had once established a parallel administration.
Question: what is the single word "false" doing at the bottom of the article?

Pakistan: A forgotten economy

A lament by a Pakistani liar.
Until 2007, Pakistan was regarded as one of the four fastest growing economies in Asia, the others being China, India and Vietnam. Goldman Sachs, an international investment bank, included Pakistan, along with Mexico, South Korea and Vietnam, in the club of the “Next Eleven” (N-11), on the basis of their potentials to emerge as major economic powers.

Until 2007, the Pakistani economy was experiencing robust growth. It witnessed the longest spell of strong growth during the first seven years (2000-07) of the decade. With an economic growth averaging 7.0 per cent per annum for most of this period, Pakistan succeeded in reducing poverty by half. Inequality and unemployment registered a decline and the private sector was buoyant. Exports and imports were growing at higher double-digits and the country’s debt burden was reduced to half. Foreign exchange reserves remained at a comfortable level and provided stability to the exchange rate. Foreign investment was pouring in, reaching as high as $8.4 billion, or six per cent of the GDP. International rating agencies continued to improve Pakistan’s credit rating, the country exited from the IMF Programme and re-entered the international capital and equity markets.

For Pakjabi men, it must be horrid to feel as if they are sleeping with their male cousins.

But Pakjabi women need not worry, in India there are good doctors, and once they find out that there is a big market in Pakjab they too would opt for a specialization in cosmetic surgery.

X Posted from the Oppression of Minorities in Pakistan thread.

Fasi Zaka contrasts the religious freedom in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and India.

He does the above by contrasting the treatment meted out to Aasia Bibi, a member of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s Christian minority under sentence of death for “blaspheming Islam” and India’s Islamic tele-evangelist Zakir Naik whose criticism of other religions in a bid to puff up Islam is fully protected by India’s constitution despite himself belonging to a minority religion in India:
The one person who can save Aasia Bibi

Aasia Bibi’s laudatory words for Jesus may have meant she didn’t think in the same way for Islam. Which, of course, she doesn’t, because she is not a Muslim.
Now look at this implication of the blasphemy law in Pakistan. Keep this in mind, Christians think Jesus as the greatest man while Muslims feel the same for Mohammed (pbuh). Now ask a Christian, “In light of your knowledge of Mohammed (pbuh), who is the best man who ever lived?”

If the Christian’s answer is in line with his religious dogma, he can be put to death. It’s 295-C taken to the legal extremities of its philosophy. The law is not just about outright, inflammatory or hateful blasphemy but even inferences from normal discussions between non-Muslims and Muslims. All you need is someone to litigate.
That’s why Dr Zakir Naik, whom Pakistanis watch with great relish on cable from international channels, can never have a comparative religion debate in Pakistan. Whoever he goes up against can be prosecuted for proselytising against Islam or thinking less of the Prophet (pbuh) because they have stated why they believe in something else. Aasia Bibi, on the other hand, was indirectly forced into that position. Maybe Zakir Naik needs to be the one defending Aasia Bibi, since, ironically, his bluster is based on the religious freedom he has in India.

X Posted from the ISI History and Discussions thread.

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan's intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence ( ISI ) knowingly released the kidnappers of New York Times journalist David Rohde:

After David Rohde's Escape, a Taliban Feud

Aram Roston
November 17, 2010 ……………

An Afghan who is well acquainted with several of the participants in the kidnapping has provided The Nation and the Investigative Fund at The Nation Institute with new details about the perpetrators, as well as new information about what happened after Rohde's escape. This source's account reveals how Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) serves as an arbiter for the various Taliban groups that compete with one another for influence, loot and profits. According to the source, the ISI, acting on behalf of one Taliban faction, took two of Rohde's guards into custody to interrogate them about how he escaped. Then, despite its knowledge of the men's role in the kidnapping, the ISI simply set them free.

Though this new information merely lends more substance to already strong suspicions about the ISI's close relationship with the Taliban, it's still an explosive allegation: rather than cooperating with US authorities, Pakistan's intelligence agency essentially became an accessory after the fact to Rohde's kidnapping. ………………

Lahori logic. The facts point in diametrically opposite direction. It is the Islamisation of Pakistan over last 30 years which is the reason for all the militancy in Pakistan.

GS brought out a list of "Next Eleven to watch" in a moment of laxity several years ago (I think in 2005) and included the superfluously wonderous nation of pa'astan. That was a one time list and was never alluded to again by anyone except, of course, by pajistanis everytime they wanted to bleat how wonderfully well their economy was about to perform. Next Eleven

Obama in India —Anwar Syed
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.as ... 2010_pg3_2
Indians make a substantial contribution to the American economy. More than 10 million of them live in the US, engaged in a variety of occupations ranging from taxi drivers to corporate executives and university professors. They are particularly visible, indeed dominant, in schools of business, medicine, and engineering in many universities. On the other hand, we find that American investments in India stand at nearly $ 40 billion. American capitalists are more dedicated to money they can make than to their country. They will take their money where they can maximise their profits. American industry makes high performance weapons, aircraft and space vehicles but it has outsourced the production of many consumer goods and services to enterprises in foreign countries, including India. Living in northern Virginia, I once called the telephone enquiry to get a certain party’s number, and the person who responded to my call was a woman in Calcutta to whom the American telephone company had outsourced this job. An American doing the same work would have cost the company ten times as much as this Indian woman did. If Mr Obama wants to create more jobs in the US, he will have to persuade American industry to return to manufacturing. The American capitalist who wants to make shirts at a cost of $ 5 a piece in Vietnam and sell them in American stores for $ 30 each should be told that he cannot do so; he will have to sell his shirts where he makes them, or pay a heavy import duty if he wants to bring them to the US.
Hope of Poak
President Obama’s offer to work together with India in many other areas of activity sounds good, but it will not necessarily materialise. Ventures will have to be identified in which cooperation can be mutually profitable. Its specifics will have to be worked out by concerned business executives and public officials. They may or may not share the president’s enthusiasm for cooperation between the two countries. The question of who will play the leading role in joint ventures will also rise. It may be assumed that American officials and businessmen will want to play such a role, but that may not be well received in the Indian camp

Polygamy: reconstructing Scheherazade —Aisha Sarwari
But where do these dreams get manufactured? The media is, for a start, one place. Although one expects the entertainment media to use the polygamous cousin as fodder, the fact that it has captured the imagination of serious talk show hosts shows just how right of centre and sick our society is. One talk show host could not wipe the smirk off his face throughout his show. Two brides, who sat on either side of the man, with no-holds-barred makeup on overkill, were sitting pretty like goats being brought for ritualistic Eid slaughter. The questions were: this is every man’s dream, what is it like? Which of the two do you like better? How did you get the women to agree? How do you manage to keep them content? He asked the ladies: do you not despise one another? Do you two ever fight? Which of you is a better cook?
