One thing we Indians need to understand about the role of Pakistan in the eyes of US establishment. It took me sometime to understand but the many decades of support for the cold war has created a large support base for Pakistan.
Americans are told that they need to support Pakistan for stability. One american told me this and then it hit me in the head. They look at India as a stable country which will survive all the little blasts here and there.
But for Pakistan there is a sense of some obligation which has started to reduce after 911. After 911 there is slow introspection but it is still slow on Pakistan. They still feel that Pakistan needs only stability and not real change.
There is a larger geo political change which they are monitoring. all the global war on terror and other world order changes are due to long term changes in Pakistan for the last 30 years. They want to take advantage of all these 'opportunities' for US interest and this can go on indefinite until a catastrophic event happens.
