Mr. Punnoose said the incident was being viewed with utmost seriousness, and that the investigation was progressing in the right direction. The DGP said he himself visited Nilambur as the case was not of ordinary nature.
Other senior police officers indicated that there would be inter-State links in the incident. “It is not a case of mere mischief,” he told The Hindu after the meeting. He declined to say if the police had made any breakthrough or got any vital clues. “But we are not where we started our investigation. We have made clear progress,” the DGP said.

I scan Mathrubhumi and The Hindu for every tit-bit these days. As I type this there has been another bomb threat (may be a hoax) on an Express train. The bomb squad has stopped the train at Kottayam RS and now are doing a thorough check.Dilbu wrote:I just read some malayalam newspapers and was like WTF.
The only worry is as to how close this new "liberated zone" ( when it comes into being) would be to Southern Karnataka, Bengaluru and Mysore!!!Sir, thanks to the "Gelf" money politicians (and people as well) of every hue and cry had totally ignored the seeds of terrorism getting thrown in Kerala society. The "Gelf money" could buy out any one. Kerala has not faced any major riots like say partition riots in up North, nor faced any wars. The last major communal riots were in 1921 and now the worthy socialist historians (??) have made even that into a "freedom struggle" (against the British). An average Malayali Kuttappan have been fed with a false security, that Kerala being 100% literate, will not face any terrorism or communal clashes. That is all reserved for the less educated, communal bigots in North India or in "Gujaraath". Now let me see how the society copes up with the new revelations.

Bengaluru will be in for a torrid time when the caliphate announces itself in N.Kerala ( with daily communal disturbances/bombings etc)!!!

I agree. A friend of mine who just returned to kerala after 5 years was amazed to see how polarized it had become. I have a feeling we're going to end up with another kashmir. The situation in Assam is very depressing as well.chetak wrote:With the swelling polarization , exactly the opposite will happen, saar.Arunkumar wrote:kerala goes to assembly polls early next year. As part of the initiative to effectively examine consignment coming into the country, the government has decided to install swift and complete scanning equipment in phases at the border road-trade posts.
Even as the debate continues over whether the country should be part of the U.S.-led Container Security Initiative (CSI), the government decided to order six such scanners which will be installed in Jammu and Kashmir and the north-east, sources in the top echelons of the government told The Hindu.
The Ministry of Defence, which has been identified as the nodal agency by the government to procure these scanners, gave the go-ahead recently to acquire these products on a fast track. The sources said these scanners would be in place over the next 10 to 12 months.
However, the security establishment in the country is yet to take a view on installation of scanners at various ports and use technology to pre-screen containers. However, the sources said, installation of advanced scanners at border trade-posts is independent of any view that the government may take on joining the CSI.
( no doubt they cant govern and sell themsleves to outsiders)Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi [ Images ] might be having great plans to give the party a new look as a part of his mission 2012, but back in the heartland of India's [ Images ] most populous state, Uttar Pradesh [ Images ], party positions have been put up for "sale".A poster put up inside the premises of the District Congress Committee in Bahraich is emboldened with the rate for each organizational post.It begins with the position of All India Congress Committee member for which there was a price tag of Rs 1 lakh, followed by UPCC membership for Rs 50,000, District Congress Committee membership for Rs 5000 and Block Presidentship for Rs 20,000.However, no sooner than the news about such posters broke out, Congress leaders allegedly got the same removed, but not before its pictures were already carried by a Hindi daily.
And, Warangal is hotspot for Naxals. It may be recalled that Narsaiah, a small farmer in Mothe village, unearthed a steel box containing gold biscuits while tilling his fields, a week ago. . . But police arrested Narsaiah after the news spread in the village and recovered about 3 kg gold from him.
Sources said the gold biscuits seized bore Swiss and British stamps dated 1994 and 1995. The police are yet to ascertain to whom the biscuits belonged to. But cops suspect that Maoists might have used the agricultural land as their dump. Police said there were similar instances earlier when they recovered weapons, gold and other things hid and forgotten by Maoists.
Police sources said they had taken many people into custody at various places for interrogation in connection with the attack on Thodupuzha Newman College teacher T J Joseph.
It has been learnt that the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the attack case, has taken three persons into custody for allegedly providing fake SIM cards to those who attacked Joseph.
Police have also strengthened security on the premises of the Aluva Judicial First Class Magistrate Court where the incriminating documents and CDs seized from the residences of the PFI activists have been kept.
Meanwhile, top police officials denied certain reports that the city police had asked the military intelligence to inquire into the failed attempts made by the PFI activists to attend various Defence functions in Kochi.
Navy authorities also said they were not aware of any development in this regard.
Police sources said they would take up their operations against the PFI in a much larger way to unearth any vital leads that might help the police to take the investigation in other terror related cases to new dimension.
Meanwhile, the Panangad police, headed by sub inspector Sibi Thomas conducted massive raid at the houses of the leaders of the PFI and SDPI. In the intensive raids conducted on Sunday, the police team recovered CDs containing provocative speeches and leaflets containing terror-spreading messages.
The police also conducted raids at the houses of local SDPI leader Kalankode Sulaiman, Nettoor Kunnothu Parambil Abdu, Periyad Sudhiyan, and Siddique. The police recovered lethal weapons from some of these houses.
“We are waiting for the outcome of the full contents of the CDs seized from these houses. In wake of the new developments happening in the state the police team is planning to intensify the ongoing raids to prevent the spreading of terror activities in and around Panangadu.
It is learnt that even teenagers are attracted by the terror groups.
For al-Qaeda, watching from Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal area, this provides an opportunity for which it has waited a long time - to hijack Pakistan's "bleed India" operations for its own cause, that is, to pull India into the region's war theater.

From P. Jayarajan (CPI-M), who initiated the arguments of the ruling LDF, to his party colleague A.C. Moideen, who spoke last from the treasury benches, they were of the view that the Congress and its allies were trying to either blow the issue out of proportion or gloss over its crucial dimensions such as the role of Hindu fanatics in fomenting terrorist violence in different parts of the country. {Is the Kerala Assembly discussing serious problems in kerala or issues in other parts of India ?}
Initiating the discussion, Mr. Mohammed asked the government to take serious cognisance of reports that Kerala was becoming the recruitment centre of terrorist outfits. The police, he felt, had failed in gathering information about terrorist activities in the State and wanted the government to do an introspection on what had gone wrong.
Mr. Jayarajan said Mr. Mohammed's attempt was to place the entire blame for terrorism on the shoulders of Muslims. Kerala, he said, was still not a haven for terrorists {It is becoming one. That's the point Mr. Jayarajan}and added that such talk was an insult to the people of Kerala.
I read malayalam version of the rediff story given below.SSridhar wrote:Dilbu, what did you read ? Please give us a summary.
Kerala's influential Catholic church has planned a silent boycott of Muslim-run shops in Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam and Thodupuzha areas following the chopping of Professor T D Joseph's palm by alleged Popular Front activists.
Sources in Muvattupuzha rediff.com say there is a silent movement spearheaded by the local parish with the support and connivance of the higher-ups in the community to boycott certain shops belonging to Muslims.
Sources in Thodupuzha said even without the Church's backing, the Roman Catholics of the area have stopped calling cabbies driven by Muslims and are even boycotting shops belonging to the Muslim community.
A senior police officer in Muvattupuzha said that unless immediate action is taken, communal polarisation could happen, which would have wider ramifications across the state.
The current Police Commissioner of Kochi was also marked as a person to specially watched. Then there was the case of a Circle Inspector getting a threatening phone call (it was traced to the idiot who did it). Two days back a highly abusvive threatening note was received at the office of the Dy.Superindent of Police. Hope these would have also made the police fully on their guard. The orders are NOT to worry on the threats, but to investigate and find from where these threats originated.Vykus wrote:The police said the PFI meeting was learnt to have discussed issues such as the starting of a Police Commissionerate here, which would provide magisterial powers to the City Police Commissioner.
Vykus, the above also appeared in a few other newspapers. I do not understand the term 'infiltration' here; it was an exhibition after all, open to public, I suppose.Vykus wrote:Hi, i found this interesting piece of news in the print edition of TOI (Mangalore edition), iam not able to fnd the same news on Net. The news (reproduced in my own words) goes like this:
Indian Navy (Southern command) will start an investigation against PFI (Poular Front of India) after documents were found in its Calicut office about failed attempts to infiltrate its cadres into a Navy exhibition organized by Navy in Kochi.
SS there you have the answer......
However, the most shocking plans of the ISI came to light last week when the Kerala Police raided the house of Mansoor, the Popular Front’s Ernakulam district secretary. The raid unearthed the minutes of the outfit’s meetings, which spoke of plans to monitor the preparedness of the Indian Navy at the Southern Naval Command, Kochi (There were reports that David Headley’s associate Tahawwur Hussein Rana had photographed the Naval installations in Kochi extensively). The plan was to sneak into the Defence exhibition at Kochi’s naval base and collect as much information as possible. However, this plan failed.
That is not all. Sometime back, the Kochi Police had carried out a mock security drill in the city jointly with the Navy, RAW and IB to realistically assess the preparedness of the Forces to counter any terror attack. The documents seized from Mansoor’s house had reportedly contained details of this drill and a declaration that the mock drill would soon become a practical reality, which could only mean that Kochi could witness a terror strike. Security agencies are now asking among themselves the ominous question: Who were behind this?
The raid at Mansoor’s house had reportedly yielded documents that spoke of huge sums of money being pumped into the Popular Front from abroad. Officials say that a cursory look at the documents proved at least Rs 1 crore had been collected in the past one year. Security agencies are now on the trail of these funds. As serious as these revelations is the reported recovery of some disgusting campaign material of Al-Qaeda-Taliban from another Popular Front leader, Kunjumon. These CDs contained visuals of terror men executing the sentences of the Islamic courts of Al Qaeda and Taliban, decapitation of girls and women and repulsive mutilation of their bodies in the midst of cheering terror-mongers. Sleuths say that the Popular Front’s July 4 attack on a college professor at Muvattupuzha was a direct import of this terror method. The professor’s right hand was cut off allegedly for preparing a question paper that blasphemed Prophet Muhammad.
Among the arrested Viqaruddin's associates were an Ayurvedic doctor Mohammed Haneef from Gujarat, and Syed Amjad, Zakir, Riaz and Sayeed, all from the city. While Viqaruddin and Amjad took part in the attacks on policemen at Falaknuma in 2009 and Shahalibanda two months ago, others aided and abetted them. The duo admitted to police that they had shot dead a constable in Gujarat in 2007 while looting a bank.
Police records say Viqaruddin, hailing from Malakpet, was initially associated with the Darsgah Jihad-O-Shahadat -- a religious fundamentalist organisation from old city.
He differed with some leaders of the DJS over the persons responsible for Mecca Masjid bomb attack, went underground and formed the Tehreek Ghalba-e-Islam.
Investigation revealed that he was not directly connected to any terrorist outfits like Laskhar-e-Taiba.
South india is in for a big time screwing in the coming times, courtesy Kerala and Hyderabad....The raid at Mansoor’s house had reportedly yielded documents that spoke of huge sums of money being pumped into the Popular Front from abroad. Just to add on. The two areas are also infamous for the large-scale usage of false passports, especially by folks who travel to and from the Gelf. Infact there is even a joke about a Kasargod Embassy, which specialised in giving out these fake passports. The whole area from Kasaragod in Kerala right up to Mangalore, I feel needs a thorough watch. And I am sure the agencies would be doing that already.Singha wrote:very intensive buildup and training phase seems to be ongoing in north kerala and adjacent belt in coastal & north karnataka
