A local court in Lahore Friday ordered the release of 98 suspects —taken into custody for the Minar-e-Pakistan incident probe — after the victim could not identify them during an identity parade.

“Akram identified only six out of the 104 suspects presented during an identity parade,” maintained the police. At this, the court dismissed the 98 suspects, directing the police to release them.

So, despite hundreds of videos and voiceprints, paki courts let go of 98 out of 104 suspects. The court expected the victim to identify her molesters even though she was busy fighting for her life.

4 martyred, 19 injured in Quetta blast; PM Imran Khan condemns TTP

QUETTA: Four security personnel were martyred and 19 people were injured Sunday morning when a suicide bomb blast took place at an FC checkpost located at Mastung Road.

The Balochistan Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) confirmed the suicide attack had targeted the Sohana Khan FC checkpost at Mastung Road.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a tweet, condemned the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for the suicide attack.

Police said the suicide bomber had rammed his motorcycle into the vehicle of a law enforcement agency at the checkpost.

Shortly after the blast, a bomb disposal unit had arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation into the attack.

Federal Directorate of Education issues dress code for male, female teachers

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) on Monday asked female teachers not to wear jeans and tights and banned their male counterparts from wearing jeans and t-shirts.

All principals have been directed to ensure that their teaching and non-teaching staff (both male and female) ensured personal hygiene, including regular haircut, beard trimming, nail cutting and use of perfume.

“It is recommended that all teaching staff must wear teaching gown while teaching in the class and lab coats while taking practical periods in laboratories,” the letter said

The letter recommended a formal dress for females which includes: “Appropriate simple and decent shalwar qameez, trouser, shirt with dupatta/shawl. Purdah observing females are allowed to wear scarf/hijab while ensuring its clean and neat appearance. Wearing of jeans and tights are not allowed in any case. Only formal shoes (pumps, loafers and mules) are allowed. ... But wearing of slippers is not allowed at all.

For male staff, the letter said: “Wear appropriate, simple and decent shalwar qameez preferably with waistcoat in accordance with the weather conditions. Wear dress shirt (full sleeves preferably with tie) and trousers (dress and cotton pants only). Wearing jeans is not allowed in any case.

It said for males, wearing shalwar qameez with waistcoat, pant and shirt with tie (preferably jacket/coat) was mandatory.

For females, ... “Fancy/party dresses in official gatherings/meetings are discouraged,” added the letter.

Two soldiers martyred in N Waziristan blast

RAWALPINDI: Two soldiers embraced martyrdom on Tuesday after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded during the security forces’ area-clearance operation being conducted in the North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military said. The ISPR added that the army troops immediately cordoned off the area to apprehend the terrorists involved in planting the IED. Furthermore, during intense exchange of fire one of the terrorists was killed, while trying to flee, it added.

TTP’s Warning

In one of the more bizarre and troubling reports to emerge this week, it was revealed on Tuesday that the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has issued a stark warning to national media and journalists, asking them to refrain from calling them a “terrorist outfit” or they will be treated as enemies. This delusional statement was released by the TTP on social media, where its spokesman Mohammad Khurasani stated that the group was keeping track of critical media coverage where they are being termed as extremists and terrorists.

Just this week, the TTP claimed responsibility for the tragic suicide attack that was carried out in Quetta. If the attack was indeed planned in Afghanistan and facilitated by India as the Interior Minister has claimed, then it is imperative that this matter be taken up with the Afghan Taliban and the international community at the earliest. A lot of lives have been sacrificed in fighting this menace and we cannot afford a repeat of this doomsday scenario.

Collusion of examination officials with students — resulting in the leaking of examination paper beforetime — is a practice pretty common and highlights weakness and corruption within the system. Invigilators — dishonest or lenient — are also responsible for cheating during examination.

In many cases, students’ parents or other family members also reach out to corrupt officials to exploit loopholes for their children. It is believed that the race for obtaining high grades to ensure admission to renowned higher education institutions, family pressure and fear of failure are some of the factors that compel many a student to resort to cheating.

Every year, media reports expose rampant use of unfair means during exams. Nearly every question paper is available on WhatsApp before the start of the exam. Use of cellphone in most of examination halls goes unchecked and students connect with outsiders for unfair and illegal help. The students are neither ashamed nor scared of indulging in unfair means to pass the exams. Officials of the various examination boards as well as the staff at examination centres, which also include teachers, are equally responsible for promoting the cheating culture.

The examination system has thus lost credibility. The governments do condemn the malpractice and issue warnings, but seldom take any action that could serve as a deterrent. Shockingly, members of the civil society as well as educationists too remain silent.
