Very interesting counter-points.

✦Pressure on Israel to extend truce; the possibility of war to satisfy maximalist terms of regime change in Gaza. 00:13
✦Regional actors are unlikely to allow the extermination of Hamas, but they have different motivations. 03:11
✦Israel's military failure in Gaza. 05:32
✦The Israeli military relies heavily on remote-controlled weapons, lacking face-to-face combat skills. 07:50
✦The Israeli Security Services and Netanyahu would not have allowed the events of October 7th to take place. 10:24
✦Netanyahu is being pushed towards a policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide. 12:43
✦Netanyahu's government is in danger. 15:01

Do not know where to post this fun fact. The current Palestine flag was the flag of Jordan between 1920-30 or so.

Jordan, around 1930 added a star, which is what the Jordan flag is today. Give and take some.

:)

(((So, send the Palestinians to Jordan and be done.)))

Ji, many miss the elephant in the room. If the West Bank is truly palestine, then why did the Jordanians who controlled this domain between 1948 to 1967 not had it over to the palestinian authorities? Why no such demand for those years? NOBODY wishes to ask or answer this question.

The Palestinians were not really a state with leaders who represented them.
From 1916 onwards (Sykes-Picot agreement and the Balfour declaration) Jordan felt it had got a raw deal from the British. When Palestine was
proposed to be partitioned, Jordan did not agree. the 1948 war was an attempt by both sides (Israel vs the Arab states) to grab as much territory as possible. Since Jewish Israel had enlarged its territory, Jordan wanted to do the same and annexed the West bank.

A Palestinian state is DOA. Palestianians are Jordanians historically. The only viable solution is to merge west bank with Jordan and relocation of poeple in Gaza to the new Jordan. The powers that be should come up with a 20-year aid package to Jordan for integration and reconciliation.

These snakes have gone after the King of Jordan (who claims lineage from 7th century) and he desperately & ruthlessly got bhade ke faujis from Pak to kill some 15K of them. Thats why no one wants them in the region. Now Egypt is building a 3rd layer of fencing across Gaza border to prevent snakes crawling in. In a few weeks, Hamas as we know it will be crushed. No one knows whats to happen after or is not telling.

Off late, I don't see very big news on the Israel-Hamas conflict. There were way too many reports (and secular whine fest) during the Israeli on-slaught and even during the time of hostage release. After that it was every media outlet just lost interest. Two days back I saw tweets about Israelis taking prisoners and a video about the the Gay parade in Gaza ;) . It was the Hamas Jehadis being stripped down to their undies and being walked on the streets to waiting vehicles. There was another pick of them being blind folded and sitting the trailer truck.

Which means that Israelis are still taking in Hamas cadre as prisoners, and they have not let down any of their planned responses.

Yes, the west has to find something new to outrage about. Ukraine, Palestine, Climate change are nearing expiry date. Recent COP28 and right wing parties winning in Netherlands have put a break on EU's so far unbridled enthusiasm for policies like net zero, CABM taxation, immigration etc... all of which are tied to happenings in west Asia.

The west will not give up its leverage in the region, they will soon manufacture some new outrage, I'm guessing it will be Palestine Act II in the near term.

Hamas’s top three leaders - Ismail Haniyeh, Moussa Abu Marzuk and Khaled Mashal - are worth a staggering $11 billion.

The international community should stop sending aid dollars to Gaza to further bankroll their life of luxury in Qatar. When Israel takes these murderers out, that $11 billion can go to rebuilding Gaza.

Good analysis.

The common thread in this and the Ukraine conflict is that it is high intensity and eats up ammunition very quickly. The cheapest ammo for doing damage (as opposed to missiles) is the 155mm shell and this is what gets exhausted rapidly.

It is high time that GoI doubled current 155mm shell stocks in anticipation of conflict that will come surely. That, and fuze production.

In the case of the IDF, they are also running out of smart bombs and missiles for Iron Dome. The problem with Iron dome is that it will intercept a missile fabricated in a garage, using a missile costing 100 times more.
I think our artillery shells stocks should be 10X more than whatever they currently are. I'm not sure there is any supplier for 130mm ammo outside India. For 155mm, western suppliers will arm twist us.

The thought had crossed my mind. Along with the following possibilities.

1) they don't care what they're hitting. Something gets hit, they link it to Israel.

2) they're receiving accurate targeting data from somewhere. And are then targetting the ship.

Deansji, you have hit the nail on the head. The current developments on guidance have enabled any one to make a reasonable accurate guided missile that can be fabricated very cheaply with a WW2 era infrastructure. It also means that the attacker can put out hundreds of these and overwhelm the defences as all of these need to be intercepted.

Governments either due to inertia or due to their MIC havent moved beyond intercepting these with costly missiles that were originally developed to counter ballistic missiles. This will fail spectacularly at scale…

I think we need to develop a cheaper counter. These cheap drones don’t fly high neither do they do fancy manoeuvres. We need to develop guided AA guns with fast swivelling mounts with 3 axis freedom in a quad pack. This combined with some sort of custom developed fuze that fragments the shells at proximity of even a small target such as a drone should do the job… Couple it with a wheeled mount and we have a cheapish counter… Add to this the Russian approach of jamming the drone control signals..

Almost all cargo ships have a well defined route, which they file with ports they call on. They travel on designated sea lanes (like using a road).
Every port in the Middle East will have an Iranian agent who will know when a vessel with any connection to Israel will either arrive and depart.
Its not too difficult to then program a drone to fly along the likely route of the ship.

That's a valid point, Currently NATO's entire barrel refurbishing capacity is unable to deal with the demands of Ukraine (which is seeing increasing number of inaccurate shells or burst barrels). Israel has always looked to fight short wars and hasn't anticipated guns firing this many shells. For Russia a 2 year war is a quickie. Their shell production in 2023 was 3 times the 2021 figure.

IN assessed the damage on tanker ship M Chem Pluto.

Says drone strke. We need to track these in a separate thread.

Must be a big warhead to cause such damage and a heavy UAV for that range to hit 300 nm from Indian coast.

Israel plans to transport goods from India via UAE to bypass Houthi attacks

Israel said, Monday, that it plans to transport goods from India through the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to bypass Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, Anadolu Agency reports.

“We have established professional teams to enable the overland transportation of goods from Abu Dhabi to Israel,” Transport Minister, Miri Regev, said on X.

“The overland transportation of the goods will shorten the time by 12 days and greatly reduce the existing waiting time due to the Houthi problem,” she added. “We will do it and we will succeed.”

There was no comment from Emirati authorities on the Israeli minister’s statements.

Tensions have escalated in the Red Sea amid Houthi attacks on commercial ships suspected of having links with Israel.

The Houthis say their attacks aim to pressure Israel to halt its deadly onslaught on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 25,295 people since a 7 October cross-border offensive by the Palestinian group, Hamas.

The US and UK launched airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen in recent days in retaliation for the attacks, which have created fears of a new bout of inflation and supply chain disruption.

The Red Sea is one of the world’s most frequently used sea routes for oil and fuel shipments. It is used to transit between Egypt’s Suez Canal and the Gulf of Aden, allowing ships to avoid the much costlier and longer route across the southern coast of Africa.
