The one thing that people do with promptness is pay their bills. Weather it is telephone or electricity or income tax, the reason why there are long lines and agents to do everything here, attests to the fact that people have learnt that paying bills in a timely manner is good.
One can see even the rich and powerful approaching the offices to do this, or get things done through the numerous bill payment agencies that have proliferated these days.

Pakistan is in a different universe alltogether. I think there is a desperation there, because nothing works there. And this pushes people specially the young towards idiocy of attempting to change the world. Now how do they change the world? The school textbooks and the local mulla-ji they listen to every friday tells them that either they go to the 7th century or go to djannat. There they will have 24x7 electricity, roads, and milk rivers and virgin hoors aplenty.

Police blunder allows killers of British family in Pakistan to go free (Telegraph UK)
Officers had arrested the two men, suspected of killing Mohammed Yousaf, 51, his wife Pervez, 49, and his daughter Tania, 22, from Nelson, Lancashire, on Friday but agreed to let them go so they could attend the funeral of their brother.

Police were due to take them into custody on Sunday - at the end of the mourning period - but now the men have gone missing and the relatives who acted as guarantors have admitted they are unable to deliver them to the authorities.
Tariq Abbas Qureshi, the local police chief, admitted his officers had arrested the two men but then been forced to release them on the orders of a court. "We will arrest them soon," he said. "We know where they are and are tracking them by their mobile phones."
Pious court forcing the police to release the murderers of three people so they can mourn the death of another? Then we have a local Police Chief instructing absconding murderers to change their SIM cards more often via international media?

That's justice in the land of the pious! AoA!

Seven suspected terrorists detained in Kabul (Hindu)
“We detained a dangerous terrorist group comprised of seven members in capital who designed recent suicide car bomb assaults on Afghans and foreigners,” Sayed Ansari, spokesman of the Afghan National Security Directorate told a press conference in Kabul.
“The detainees are all Afghans who received suicide attack training in Pakistan,” the spokesman added.

Not just local mullah.

I just saw a Paki video called "Why Muslims talk of war" and Zaid Hamid says "Did US bomb Iraq or did Iraq bomb US. Did Afghanistan bomb US or vice versa. Did Pakistan break India or did India break Pakistan"

This bullshit is peddled in a nation that is worth less than a pool of diarrhoea. These guys have no water, no power, no life, no entertainment no nothing and they say "The world is against Muslims. Let us fight the world"

The "world" is not given to reacting fast against a pool of crap. But gradually Pakistan will be taken down as long as they continue down this route.

Which I hope they will..

No economic crisis: S. Akbar Zaidi (Dawn)
The growth rate for the economy approved by the National Accounts Committee for the current fiscal year is a very healthy 4.1 per cent, considerably higher than the original highly optimistic targets of three and 3.3 per cent...
Compared to the original two per cent growth rate for the last fiscal year 2008-09, this is an impressive improvement of over 100 per cent. However, now with the growth rate revised downwards for 2008-09, to 1.1 per cent, the growth rate for the current fiscal year is almost four times as much...
Journalists and commentators have been accusing the government of ‘manipulating’ the GDP growth figures by creative accounting techniques. They have argued that while it is legitimate to revise GDP growth figures, or any sets of figures, a year or two later, what they contest is the scale of the revision. Some have argued that a small adjustment, say from two per cent to 1.8 per cent or so, would not have been difficult to accept, but almost halving the growth rate does seem a bit incredulous, and suggests that this is a ‘political ploy’.
The 15 per cent growth shown in the construction sector, when the public sector development programme and government spending have been substantially reduced this fiscal year, has even been questioned by some government spokesmen...
Looking at all the factors which have affected Pakistan’s economy over the last two years — and I have listed just a small handful — suggests that there is no way Pakistan’s economy could have made such a miraculous turnaround. If so, as Pakistan’s economic managers claim that we have, we must be grateful to them for they have defied the very logic of economic management and they need to document their achievements so that others can learn.

Moreover, what this turnaround signifies, is that we really do not need the huge promised funds from the Friends of Democratic Pakistan, or from the US on account of the Kerry-Lugar Act, astronomical amounts of promised funds which never materialised. Not only can we survive without all such aid, we can actually thrive in its absence. But just imagine how much more we would have prospered had we received all that promised aid.

Dawn Blog
We should start our own Twenty20 cricket league, but with a twist to multiply its entertainment value. Pakistan is home to loose militant groups and banned organisations committing violent acts to create sensational effect while showing them as macho and relevant. Instead of letting this fervor go to waste, we should provide them a forum where they can express themselves as openly as possible, while taking one another on in the confines of cricket. I present to you the Pakistan Terror League, PTL. The Twenty20 cricket league that is centered around banned terror outfits and other secret organisations such as Jaish-e-Muhammad, LeT, Sipah Sahaba, and LeJ – even mercenary organisations operating in the area like Blackwater/Xe could have a team.

A team would consist of 11 players like the standard cricket format, composed of batsmen, bowlers and all-rounders. The teams would engage in a cutthroat competitive contest of high-stakes explosive militant cricket, extremely sensationalised by huge explosions and live ammunition. The bowler’s objective would be to blow the batsman up or hit his missile-wickets. The batsman, in order to survive with all limbs in tact, would have to lob the grenade away with his bat. The third umpire would most definitely be a Predator Drone. Whoever blows up every member of the other team first wins, and they walk off victorious, bloody, and limbless with the Pakistan Terror League championship trophy.

Facebook Blocks Access in India to Controversial Page
Facebook has blocked in India the controversial "Everybody draw Mohammed Day!" page that last week led to the site being banned in Pakistan.

The move follows protests by Muslims in the country over the page which invites users to put up caricatures of Prophet Mohammed.

"Out of respect for the local regulations, standards and customs, we have decided to restrict access to the 'Everyone Draw Mohammed!' page from India, after being contacted by authorities and reviewing the matter closely," a spokeswoman for Facebook said on Sunday in an email.

Anywhere but US, say Pak emigrants
“All these US policies have given a whole generation of Pakistanis the psyche that the United States doesn’t want us,” said Arsalan Ishtiaq, a visa adviser in the city of Rawalpindi who has not received a single US student visa inquiry in two years.

“Not only is it much harder to get a visa now, but the few who do get them worry they may get in trouble or implicated in something if they go.”

Then there are the DIEs/FHBs who post their religious affiliation on FB as v liberal. It is beyond the comprehension of most of these people that the very essence of our sanathan dhram is religious liberalism.

It is be a while before the modermism == westernism mania wears off the Indian mindset.

http://pakteahouse.wordpress.com/2010/0 ... -violence/
A sensible article on the Facebook issue. But I produce it here because of the estimate contained in the article.
What’s much more troubling in this entire saga is the violent, and nearly bloody, attitude that Muslims love to wear when talking about this particular issue. Nearly every Muslim, brought up in a religious environment, considers it a part of faith to love Holy Prophet [P.B.U.H.]. Not only that, illiterate religious scientists then also drill is into their minds, as part of faith, that they ought to kill or do away with anyone insulting the Prophet. Such violent injunctions, which clearly fringe upon murder and inhumanity, are so consistently drilled into minds that you wouldn’t find four out of ten Muslims who don’t strongly believe in it. At least not so in Pakistan.

Wonders never cease, yet another sensible Pakistani.
http://pakteahouse.wordpress.com/2010/0 ... rspective/
You can read the full article at the link. I'm posting the pieces that are relevant to understanding Pakistan.
The “youth” have grown up in a post 9/11 world so they have little or no living memory of a time when the world wasn’t obsessed with us.....They have grown up in a world where “Muslim” has become a synonym for “terrorist.” Imagine what it does to their psyche. Imagine growing up like that. It saddens me immensely because, as a teacher who is close to her students, I see the toll it takes on them. I see their anger and I sympathise with it. I don’t agree that this is a war on Islam per se since that is just too simplistic an explanation, but I do understand why they would feel this way.

As a teacher of critical thinking, I have a frustrating job. I love it because it is very rewarding, but teaching critical thinking to kids who have been taught NOT to think is quite challenging.

...
While we think it’s perfectly all right to demonise the world, promoting intolerance and hatred for the West, creating Hindu-Zionism conspiracy theories, we strongly object when the world responds in kind. Again, I ask, why is it ok for us and not anyone else? Are we all meek little innocents? And again, what kind of message is this sending the “youth” we are oh so very concerned about? I’ll tell you what it leads to because I battle with it constantly. It leads to essays that are rants on how evil the world is, full of hate speech, and with absolutely no sensitivity to the other perspective. It has, like I said, lead to a persecution complex so strong that it’s very hard to break. It has lead to people like Faisal Shahzad. Now you tell me. Do we want more of him? Or more of those who are willing to debate peacefully instead of resorting to violence? Because at the rate we’re going, no one will need to bomb us into the stone ages. We’re going there ourselves.

Why wouldn’t being called a “rag-head who will pray to his sand nigger god to destroy us” enrage someone?
We understand that there is always someone ignorant or hateful who will say, or ocassionally do, stuff for who we are. But we don't use that as an excuse to explode in rage and kill everyone. We understand that "dogs bark while the caravan moves on."

All weather friendship has been shot in the foot. All those billions of dollars and this is the result. :)

Now as china is reforming her immigration laws (of course - to invite immigrants of the proper nature - I hope) let us see where that friendship goes in the long run.

No Pak side for CLT20 yet again (Hindustan Times)
After the IPL snub, Pakistan suffered fresh humiliation when their domestic T20 champions, Sialkot Stallions, were not picked for the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20), to be held in South Africa in September...

The CLT20 governing council on Monday announced the names of the ten teams that will participate in the tournament's second edition. Despite being eligible, Pakistan were not invited to participate. Teams from India, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the West Indies will compete in the $2.5 million event from September 10-26.
On Monday, Butt called the snub “scandalous” and found no reason to be left out, especially when the event was not being held in India. “I am constantly surprised by this treatment meted out to our cricketers. IPL did the same thing to us, we ran from pillar to post to get the paper work done, the Indian sports minister so willingly helped us, but finally no one got picked in the auction. This is absolutely scandalous. There is no reason for them to ignore us like that,” said Butt.

“Even last year we didn’t get an invite for the Champions League. We tried to enquire about the situation but there was no response. How can one judge us without sending an invite?” he wondered. The PCB chairman hoped these were not signs of Pakistan being isolated and vowed to take up the issue in the next ICC meeting. “We will definitely take up this issue with the ICC. This is unfair treatment to one of the senior members of the ICC.”
When contacted, BCCI secretary, N Srinivasan, refused to offer an explanation. “Even last year Pakistan was not invited. This is nothing new. Why this sudden affinity for Pakistan?” he said.

I dunno. She is merely noting the fact that the majority of the kids are filled with rage. She nowhere says that it is in any way acceptable to act violently based on that rage. What she does say is that the kids have been indoctrinated not to think, and essentially that the consequences flowing from the actions of the elders have led the kids to feel themselves to be despised. {This last she doesn't spell out explicitly, but when she complains of the environment kids are growing up in, well, who created it? Who were the teachers in "kids who have been taught NOT to think"?}

Pakistan talks of boycotting IPL 2011, Champions League
Cricinfo staff
January 25, 2010

Two senior Pakistani officials, sports minister Aijaz Hussain Jahkrani and PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, have ruled out the participation of cricketers from that country in next year's IPL and the Champions League Twenty20 tournament later this year, according to media reports. This, the officials say, is a reaction to the boycott of Pakistani players in the IPL auction.

The first talk of Pakistani boycott of Champions League was Jan 26 2010.
A month later, Feb 27, 2010 :
http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-news- ... actice-now
Meanwhile, PCB chairman does not see any chance of Pakistan being represented in the second edition of the lucrative Champions League this year. Butt said the winners of the national T20 championship starting from February 28 here would not be going to the Champions League.

“I have already spoken to Lalit Modi about this and there is no chance of any team from Pakistan playing in the Champions League this year,” he said.

Butt said the PCB policy on the Indian Premier League and Champions League remained unchanged after the way Pakistani players were ignored at the IPL players auction.

“After the way our players were treated I don’t see our players or teams taking part in the Champions League this year,” he said.

The IPL is yet to announce the venue for this year’s Champions League although South Africa claims it has been given hosting rights. India hosted the first edition last year but Pakistan, which was originally included among the participating teams, was dropped after the Mumbai attacks in 2008. But Modi recently said they were chances of Pakistan taking part in the Champions League this year, a thought not shared by Butt.

“Our future participation in the IPL and Champions League remains undecided but this year at least we are not taking part in either event,” he said.

Afghan Spy Agency Accuses Pakistan
A spokesman for Afghanistan’s intelligence agency on Monday accused Pakistan’s intelligence agency of involvement in the suicide bombing here last week that killed six NATO soldiers, including four colonels.

“All the explosions and terrorist attacks by these people were plotted from the other side of the border and most of the explosives and materials used for the attacks were brought from the other side to Afghanistan,” Mr. Ansari said.

“Of course when we say that those attacks were plotted from the other side of the border, the intelligence service of our neighboring country has definitely had its role in equipping and training of this group,” Mr. Ansari said.

Has anyone seen this documentary: The Miseducation of Pakistan (2005)
Product Description

A nation's future hangs in the balance when it cannot educate its youth. Using a journalistic approach, The Miseducation of Pakistan explores the country's appalling public education system. Schools with no teachers, schools overflowing with garbage, schools under the open sky, without drinking water or electricity; this is what most students of public schools in Pakistan can look forward to. Little wonder that a vast majority of primary school graduates can't even be considered literate by international standards.

Govt. of India contacted Facebook and did the equal-equal even though Indian muslims refused to follow the stellar example set by the extra pious guardians of the ummah next door.

Couldn't miss the opportunity to cater to its vote bank.

This is the original link of that page. When i click on it i get redirected to facebook home page.

I have been surfing the net since the last ten years. I know when im blocked.

Later added : I was right. Just FYI, the page had become inaccessible to me since may 20. Around 8am.
Facebook Blocks Access in India to Controversial Page
The PCWorld link says FB blocked it on its own and the Govt did not have anything to do with it.
Officials at India's Departments of Telecommunications and Ministry of Home Affairs said on Sunday that they were not aware of the Indian government blocking the site.
Added later: I see this point has already been made. Can't seem to delete, would appreciate if mods delete this post. thks

Originally I disagreed with banning Pak players from IPL, as I thought it was a poor excuse for inaction towards the real problem. But this is actually enjoyable watching Pakis get their panties in a knot. In that spirit, I think we should refuse them visas for the world cup. That would be beautiful.

The article may be sensible, but the site it is posted on is anything but sensible. There are a couple of cretinous WKKs resident there from the Indian side who will brook no suggestion that Pakistan's foundational ideology has anything wrong with it, and will be open to throwing stones at Gandhi in order to gain respect "from the other side", as it were. In fact, the Latif who blogs on that site has made it his life's mission to try to "prove" that Talibanized Pakistan in 2010 is a direct consequence and fault of Mahatma Gandhi's flirtations with the Khilafat movement in the 1920s. That guy worships Djinn-ah like he's the second coming of the prophet.

Caveat emptor!
