Remembering Rinkle Kumari -
http://dawn.com/2013/02/24/another-february-24/
Today is February 24. Last year, on the same date, Rinkle was picked up from her house. Her house was left in a state that suggested that a burglary had occurred and valuables were stolen. Her dupatta and her chappals were left lying on the doorstep.
When she was first presented in a court in Mirpur Mathelo, she requested to be returned to her parents. The court, instead of listening to her, replied that she ‘was confused’ and therefore, should spend time reconsidering the predicament and handed her back to her abductors. It was as if the court was confused itself.
She was presented in court again on Feb 28, where, in her statement, she recited the kalma and became ‘Faryal Bibi’ from Rinkle. The entire process took less than 10 minutes. Her conversion to Islam was greeted by aerial firing by her captors who had brought her to court surrounded by armed guards. This was a new victory for them.
‘Faryal Bibi’ was then taken to Dargah Bharchondi’s seat-bearer and PPP’s Mian Mithu, while the gunfire echoed across the town. She was his guest and was taken to and from court surrounded by his guards. Actually, this victory was not the only feather in the dargah’s cap. The dargah’s deeds, ranging from the Manzalgah mosque that became famous for its role during the pre-Partition communal riots in Sindh to the assassination of the singer Bhagat Kunwar Ram of the Hindu faith, were oft repeated. The dargah commonly converted non-Muslims to Islam before the Partition and this exercise continues steadily today.
This dargah is an ideal example in endeavours to increase the Muslim population from every corner of Sindh, starting from the Thar Desert to Kashmore. Then, how was it possible for the tilak-anointed schoolmaster, Rinkle’s father to fight for his kidnapped daughter’s return in this godsend Islamic republic state? Such news usually reaches the ears of human rights organisations or the media, a nutcase or two then run towards the news source just like the mullah runs towards the mosque to take up the case and bring it to justice. Bibi Faryal was familiar with Islam. Either Naveed Shah’s ishq was at its peak or the matter really was one of kidnapping and force that was being blamed upon Bharchondi’s seat-bearer Mian Mithu.
When the hue and cry became unbearable, the dargah’s owners brought Bibi to Karachi Press Club (KPC). But what was she going to say here? The dargah’s guards sat in their vehicles outside while the owners sat beside her inside. Bibi Faryal, fearfully, publicly repeated the kalma and revealed herself to the masses. The incident fanned criticism and protests by the civil society further, due to which, the high court was forced to take notice of the case. In the chambers of Justice Bajwa, a Sindh High Court judge, Bibi said that she ‘had been wronged’. It is unknown whether she was able to say anything else or not.
On March 26, she kept shouting that the court should ‘send her back to her mother instead of the shelter house in the court no. 1 of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). But just like the judge in Mirpur Mathelo’s court, the IHC judge mistook her yelling for anxiety and sent her to a shelter house instead of back to her mother so that she may, once again, reconsider her ‘predicament’. Unable to hug her weeping mother (as she was led away by female police women as if she were the criminal), at least she managed to tell her one thing,
“Mother, who are you asking for help? This country belongs to the Muslims. Everyone from the bottom to the top is an accomplice.”
This wasn’t the lament of the newly-converted Faryal but that of Rinkle whose voice had been suppressed amidst the noise in the courtroom. The next statement was taken in the registrar’s office instead of a courtroom and the newly-converted girl was sent home under police custody.
It was an end to the court’s story but just the beginning of a tale of pain and despair as no one expected any justice from any court. After Rinkle, it was the turn of Asha, Lata, Arvna, Devi and Bhagwanti. The chain of such events had changed so much.
Once, an uncle of another girl Durga came and showed me her birth certificate. Her date of birth was 2001. She was a minor who had been kidnapped from the street. About three days later, the news that she had converted to Islam was published in local newspapers. Her upset uncle asked me if there was any court in this land that would fight his case.
The grandmother of another minor girl, Vijanti from Umerkot who had been raped, broke down as she said that she would migrate to India with her granddaughter and their entire family if they didn’t get the justice they deserved. Their food and water was diminishing. Meanwhile, the Pakistani nation had wrapped itself in the coat of the Muslim ummah and had begun travelling on the road where there was no section for the identification of non-Muslim Pakistanis.
Another February 24 has arrived. The students of influential dargahs and/or madrassas are entering their youth. O you kafirs, protect your girls! The era of ulfat-e-Islam is about to begin for them as the list of young girls, newly-converted to Islam, is being prepared.

Rare countrywide power blackout hits Pakistan
A rare countrywide blackout has left Pakistan without electricity for almost two hours overnight.
The authorities blamed technical problems for the breakdown early on Monday, insisting it was not caused by sabotage. Rai Sikandar, an official at the ministry of electricity
and water, says there was a malfunction at a plant in the country's southwest around midnight Sunday that put pressure on all major power producing systems, which subsequently stopped working.

TTP calls rehman Malik as comedian - ToI
The Pakistani Taliban have mocked Interior Minister Rehman Malik by describing him as a "comedian", with a militant spokesman saying a "serious person" should replace him for any dialogue between the two sides.
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan spokesman Ihsanullah Ihsan compared Malik to Pashto comedian Ismail Shahid and said the group did not take the minister's statements seriously.
"Our central shura (consultative council) believes that if Rehman Malik keeps on churning out statements about our offer (of talks), it'll indicate the government is not serious in pursuing peace talks," Ihsan told The Express Tribune.
"If the government replaces Rehman Malik with a serious person to deal with the dialogue issue, we will come up with an immediate, positive and civilised response in the best interests of Pakistan and its people," Ihsan said over phone from an undisclosed location.
Over the past few days, Malik has repeatedly ridiculed the Taliban's offer of peace talks, saying a dialogue can be held only if the banned group lays down arms and declares a month-long ceasefire.
On Saturday, Malik remarked that the Taliban raised the issue of talks whenever they were weak.
He also asked the group to name a team of "serious negotiators" if they wanted to make peace.
The Taliban spokesman said he has been stopped by his leaders from commenting on Malik's statements because the Taliban and "even many in Pakistan don't trust him".
Ihsan refused to comment on a conference of political parties convened by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman later this month to discuss ways to end the conflict in Pakistan's northwest.
He also evaded a question about the possibility of tribal elders playing a role in the peace process.

An echo of Pakistan's tragedy in New Delhi - Blog by Amit Baruah in
DAWN
Delhi was the scene of an unusual protest on Friday. Some members of the Hazara community and a few Pakistani students gathered outside the United Nations office to demonstrate against the killings of hundreds of Hazara and Shia Muslims in Pakistan in recent weeks.
I always used to think that Pakistan was very safe for all Muslims and that it was created to ensure safety of the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent who were facing persecution from the kafir enemy. I thought that was why the 'comedian' Rehman Malik offered asylum to Shah Rukh Khan recently when the latter was dismayed by his Islamic identity in India. Now, what a turn of events that Pakistanis are protesting, in New Delhi, of all wretched places the killing of Muslims in Pakistan by other Pakistani Muslims ? Allah, the most beneficient, has somehow always been cruel to the only Islamic country founded on the basis of Islam. We know that He works in mysterious ways but with Pakistan He has been clear from day one. He simply decided not bestow his benefits upon that God-forsaken country.

Pak court reopens 84-yr-old blasphemy case
Lahore, Feb 21:
A Pakistani court has begun hearing a petition seeking the reopening of an 84-year-old case in which a court under the British administration had given the death sentence to Ghazi Ilamuddin for murdering a Hindu writer named Raj Pal.
Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umer Ata Bandial heard arguments by the petitioner’s counsel on the maintainability of the plea yesterday and adjourned the case till March 14.
Ilamuddin killed Raj Pal for allegedly committing blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad and was sentenced to death by British judges of the Lahore High Court in 1929.
Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi of the “Save the Judiciary Committee” has filed the petition for reopening the case and exonerating Ilamuddin.
Farooq Hasan, the counsel for Qureshi, argued Raj Pal had included blasphemous material in his book and had “invited his death“.
He said: “Ghazi Ilamudin had no personal grudge with Pal and acted only out of love for the Prophet like a true Muslim.”
Hasan requested the court to set aside the impugned order by exercising the principle of review.
Qureshi asked the court to direct authorities to honour Ilamuddin with state awards.
He also requested the court to direct the government to arrange a state funeral for Ilamuddin after declaring him “not guilty”.

I think Pakistan is the true successor of British Raj and thus should take up all the cases of British Raj (1857-1947) and review them from Pakistanin constitution/law/justice point of view and give verdicts.
Who knows Gandhi could have committed Blasphemy by stopping Hindu-Muslim riots, which is Islamic Jihad in the name of Allah!
Sometimes I wonder if JLN did the right thing by sticking to the name of India.
Imagine the world where Pakistan is India and India is Bharat.

Aussie Vijja.
Why won’t you give Hazaras asylum, Australia?
On February 16, 2013, when a 1000kg explosive laden water tanker exploded in the midst of a crowded market in Hazara Town, Quetta, it not only destroyed lives and property but
it also destroyed Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision of a tolerant Pakistan.
In the mulch of torn pieces of women, children, tradesmen, charred vehicles and rubble, lay dead the ideology of Pakistan.
Let it be plainly said that Pakistan is not safe for Hazaras anymore as the state has clearly failed to provide security to this community, let there be no argument on this.
So what to do?
Where to go?
Resist and be massacred by LeJ militants that up to this day are only handed petty punishments, that are gigantically incongruous to the enormity of their crimes?
The only way for the Hazara community to escape this hell is to seek asylum in different countries.
Recently a story came up, that Australia has offered to give asylum to 2500 Hazara families.
The Australian High Commission in Pakistan eventually rejected the story in a press release. However, the fact remains that Australia has certainly seen a rising number of Hazaras seeking asylum.
According to news reports, the Australian High Commission has started to accommodate an increasing number of applications from the Hazara community and according to an official inside Australian High Commission, it has received more than 200 applications in the past three weeks.
However,
the trouble for Hazaras is not over in Pakistan and Afghanistan. It also follows them to the shores of Australia.
The story starts with Tony Abbot the Australian Opposition Leader who claimed that
the boat people arriving in Australia were acting in an unchristian manner.
“I don’t think it’s a very Christian thing to come in by the back door rather than the front door,” he said talking about people who were coming in by boats to Australia.
Adding further, he said,
“…..if you jump the queue, if you take yourself and your family on a leaky boat, that’s doing the wrong thing, not the right thing, and we shouldn’t encourage it.”
Unfortunately many (not all and certainly not the majority) in Australia share this belief. It is important to tell them that why asylum seekers, many of them being Hazara fleeing from Afghanistan and Pakistan, are risking theirs and their family members lives by coming in “leaky boats”.
Here is the reason:
“
It is better to die at sea trying to get here than to be killed in Afghanistan or Pakistan{Inshallah, All Bakis and Bafhgans jump in (B)arabian Sea},” said a Hazara, living in Melbourne, while giving an interview to the New York Times.
The Julia Gillard led Australian government has reopened offshore processing centres for refugees in Nauru and Papua New Guinea Islands, where the asylum seekers’ boats will be diverted to and the refugees will be herded into camps like criminals where they will be kept under high security in dismal conditions.
The whole premise of the Australian government, it so seems, is to stop people putting their lives in danger by travelling in boats and sailing across capricious seas to seek asylum.
On the face of this looks like a well-intentioned effort until of course some disturbing details are revealed.
A Globe and Mail investigation found out that the Australian government is actively working with Pakistani intelligence authorities to stop Hazaras migrating into Australia, according to its report citing Pakistani officials; both the governments are involved in racial profiling of Hazaras so that the immigration process is stemmed right at the point of origin.
The Australian government should realise that people arriving by boats or through any mode of transport to seek asylum are not just coming for personal gains but to seek protection, in fear for the lives of their families. T
he argument that benefits to the asylum seekers will burden Australian economy does not hold true, as the Australian government should implement a proper program to integrate asylum seekers in the Australian society, giving them employment and subsequently getting them into the tax net, which will only benefit the Australian economy{High Class Piskology+Lahori Logic}
, rather than herding them in off shore detention centres.
It must also realise that among the scores killed in the deadly January bombings in Quetta, there were many who were waiting for their asylum visas to be processed in a -to use the words of Australian Immigration Minister Chris Bowen- “orderly refugee programme”!
Thus, being a signatory to The Refugee Convention Australian government’s actions are in conflict with the convention’s articles. It is high time for Australia to realise its legal
and moral obligations.
Also, (although it would be fruitless to ask) the Pakistani government should take real, effective and forceful measures to clamp down on extremist elements.
Its, high time our national ‘Ghairat’ woke up.

Of Monkey, Rehman Malik and Islam
Wise monkeys
Hu Ass Ain H Zaidi
As the story goes, one day a young man told his mother that soon one of e members of the family would disappear. Next morning, when the family woke up, they found that the house had been burgled and their youngest member was not to be seen. Amid the hue and cry, a woman remarked: “Yes, my son has run away with the valuables but we must also admit that he is a gifted soul for he knew beforehand that one of us would not be here today.”This anecdote brings to our mind Interior Minister Rehman Malik, the man in charge of national security as fate would have it, who every now and then warns that terrorists will strike a particular place. But seldom does he succeed in running down the terrorists, who carry out their designs at will.
And look what our politicians on either side of the political divide are up to? Holding out an olive branch to the militants who are committed to a diabolical ideology. The ideology that posits the world as a spectacle of incessant struggle between Islam and kufr. The ideology for which Islam is synonymous with a particular sect and the rest are only heretical. The ideology that makes it incumbent upon its adherents to wade through blood, if need be, to stamp out the rival creeds and make their own supreme.. The ideology that sanctifies bloodshed and glorifies violence, all in the name of religion. The ideology whose appetite for blood is not satisfied with the killing of one or two people but with en masse murders. The ideology that believes in creating an inferno herein so that its followers may have paradise as their abode in the hereafter and the ideology that calls for setting up a monolithic, retrogressive society as its ultimate goal.

Then Came Islam In Pakistan
Sundar Mundariyay
. From the Moghuls to the British, they lived up to the tradition of resistance. It was the free spirit of these people that irked the imperialists to either belittle them as Jaangli or, in a subtle manner, eliminate them from history. As a result of this, the locals resorted to a unique method of preserving their history. To avoid this abduction, they converted their history into rhymes and poems. When the train stopped, I got down looking for the market of Dhaba’n Singh, which was originally Safdarabad and found this song:Sunder munderiyay
This was a lohri, a song for many occasions. :ohris was declared un-Islamic in the early 50’s and no efforts today, can locate it in Punjab. A few years ago, the song once again reverberated in Pakistan through an Indian flick. Taken by its melody, Punjabis had difficulty identifying with the song and the pangs while disassociating from it. The character of Rai Abdullah or Dullah Bhatti is another feature of the Bar. His mention, in the lohri, has a history. Dullah rescued a poor girl from the wrath of a landlord, raised her and married her off as his own daughter. The grandson of Sandal Bhatti, who had Sandal Bar named after him and the son of Farid Bhatti, Dullah was a scion of the Chandravanshi Rajput’s Bhatti clan, who lived in Punjab some four centuries ago. When Akbar ascended the throne, his first priority was eliminating the rebellions. after the shameful defeat, the Moghuls invited him for talks and deceitfully arrested him. Upholding tradition, he was kept for a while at the Shahi Qila and was hanged in front of Kotwali, a police station now marks the place. His funeral was administered by the Sufi poet, Shah Hussain. The story of this son of the soil spans from the graveyard of Miani Saheb to Dullewala in Bhakkar District. Moghuls had thought that burying Dullah would suppress the rebel soul but the Chughtais knew little of the Punjabi tradition. Written on the lines of Mirza Saheban, the mothers of Punjab sang the epic of Dullah to their children for quite few centuries. With partition, everything changed … forever. Now the famous men from the lineage of Dullah Bhatti have stopped riding horses and have taken up trade. They are famous for saving democracy rather than honor, and as far as lullabies are concerned, the children no longer sleep with their parents, they prefer their privacy.

Give us asylum. We can do donkey work. We shall live like pig and breed like pig and multiply 10 folds in no time. We shall build mosques and many madrassa. We make the place so filthy that no sane local would even want to smell us from 5 miles. Inshalla then we shall have our own mini-pakistan in your country. Salam.

Let me recall this.
The 19-year-old illiterate who killed Raj Pal, the publisher of the book Rangeela Rasool , subsequently executed by the British, was held in the highest esteem by the founders of Pakistan, Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Jinnah had been Ghazi Ilm Din's lawyer. It is reported that Iqbal placed the body in the grave with tears in his eyes and said: “This young man left us, the educated men, behind.” Ilm Din is venerated by a mausoleum over his grave in Lahore. Muhammad Din Taseer, had led funeral prayer for Ilamuddin.
