if they want to check student networks:

~25% of the population of urban boston is students. it has some big universities, medical colleges and many smaller colleges...huge number of foreign students incl from TSP/arab world. maleeha lodhi and many tsp elites studied there.
plus one has to consider other colleges/univs in NH,MA,RI,NY,NYC any persons of interest might have consorted with.

its very unlikely a loner foreign student could have done this. if it was a domestic supremacist/"freeman" type then yes possible because they are hot on guns and explosives anyway.

Saudis? They're showing pics of bearded, turbaned Sikhs again!

Condemnable totally, one's deepest sympathies to those affected and their families, the perpetrators must be brought to book....but,if by a foreign (Islamist) hand this was coming. You cannot bomb to smithereens thousands of innocent women and children in the badlands of Afghanistan,Pakistan,Iraq, etc.;innumerable wedding parties, community gatherings et al,and simply write them off as collateral damage. This attiitude simply spawns a new generation of individuals hell bent on extracting vengeance upon the US of A.In Camp Gitmo, innocent individuals picked up at random are being tortured as if in Nazi concentration camps.

Pres. Obama is a fraud that utters promises that he never keeps and is plotting an agenda to turn the US into a police state, using drones to keep Americans under surveillance just as is being done in Af-Pak.There is another theory that it may also be an act by the ultra right who are livid against attempts to water down the "right to bear arms" under the US constitution. The matter is being debated in the house and Obama is under intense pressure from anti-gun lobbies to curtail the sale of assault weapons, weapons with multiple magazines, etc. The NRA is resisting the move as stubbornly as it can. After the Boston bombings, who will now bell the anti-gun cat?

What is most significant is that these attacks have happened on "Patriots Day".Are super-patriots at work here?

they will be equally well armed themselves...and ready to defend their perimeter. people asking for water or directions by knocking on a strangers door have been shot to death there. one never knows how much pressure anyone is under. I once saw a guy go stark batnuts shouting on a cellphone at someone (probably his ex), for 5 mins straight he ranted and ranted in a strip mall until someone dialed 911, a burly cop puts his car in a blocking position behind the pickup , and with hand on gun holster marches up and gives him a quiet talking to.

I was watching this show called "doomsday preppers" yesterday. a late middle age guy with 10 kids from 4 marriages. his oldest kid is 41 and the youngest 8 yrs old. he has built a half complete rock castle in the woods near his house and intends it to be a bastion for his family in the event of disaster. his basement there was well stocked with MREs, solar panel gear, tools, gas, water plant, mattresses etc. and he was teaching all the kids to use guns - lots of them ranging from shotguns , rifles, M4, AK47-norinco clone, bows with flaming arrows...he was even teaching them squad mobility and firing drills with a couple firing from the windows while another couple reloaded with fresh rounds. he has spent a million$ on it so far and just the walls are up,
no doors, no windows, no roof, no interior....he wants it to last 100s of years so made of solid pieces of cut rock. he has also modded a couple of old 4x4 not to use electronics (EMP hardened), multi fuel capable, skid plates and raised suspension. even moving his brood from the regular house to the castle was a tactical exercise with some "dead drops" to tell the tail vehicles which country roads to take while his lead element moved ahead for recce.

there is also another pgm called "doomsday outfitters" about some guys who will kit you up with the comms and firepower needed for judgement day.

British security officials have been in video conference with US counterparts - concerned who the actor is as Maggie thatcher funeral and London marathon is imminent.

Comments from the US side indicate they are confident the device was crude. They have a lot of data to sift through (suspicious people, vehicles etc).

Pakistani Taliban deny Boston Marathon blasts
The Pakistani Taliban, which claimed the 2010 Times Square bomb plot, on Tuesday denied anything to do with explosions that killed three people and wounded more than 100 in Boston.

“We believe in attacking US and its allies but we are not involved in this attack,” Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan told AFP.

Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah Cheer Boston Marathon Bombings

Shortly after terror bombs exploded and murdered over 12 people at the Boston Marathon, members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah were reported to be dancing in the streets of Gaza, handing out candies to passerbys.

A number of Palestinians had danced in the street in celebration of the 9/11 attacks in 2001 on the World Trade Center and Washington resulting in the deaths of thousands of Americans.
The head of an Islamic terror organization in Jordan – the Muslim Salafi group says he’s “happy to see the horror in America” after the bombing attacks in Boston.

“American blood isn’t more precious than Muslim blood,” said Mohammad al-Chalabi, who was convicted in an al-Qaeda-linked plot to attack US and other Western diplomatic missions in Jordan in 2003.

“Let the Americans feel the pain we endured by their armies occupying Iraq and Afghanistan and killing our people there,” he said today.

A Mideast counterterrorism official based in Jordan said the blasts “carry the hallmark of an organized terrorist group, like al-Qaeda.”

The New York Post has reported that at least 12 people are dead and over 100 injured – including up to 15 with amputated limbs – after two bombs ripped through the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
These 'peaceful' Izlamic yahoos world over rejoice the death of kufrs.

Most probably it was an ISI-LeT attack, as ISI saw that USA was disentangling itself from AfPak which would have caused a loss of American support. This attack was simply to tell America, that they need ISI badly.

TTP understands the game. The Pakistani Army would have claimed it was a TTP Plot, considering that TTP was quite willing last time to take the responsibility for the attack by Faisal Shehzad just for the sake of false bravado. It allowed Pakistani Army to encourage the Americans to target the TTP as well through drone attacks.

This time TTP seems to be a bit more circumspect. They don't want ISI to increase their influence in Langley even though ISI made the hit.

Crude, but effective. The blast injured 140 and 25 in ICU and according to Chu**ya News Network people are having limbs amputated. Certainly better than New York car bomber

Right name for C**NN

Yes the intention was more to hurt more people then to damage property in large scale.

About 30 people were transferred to hospitals under a Code Red, meaning life threatening injuries, which may point to a rising death toll, according to a law enforcement official.
...........
Law enforcement officials also late Monday descended on an apartment building on Revere Beach Parkway, and conducted a search related to the investigation, according to an official with knowledge of the search.
...........

compared to airports, train stations or stadiums this was a soft target packed with people whose focus was elsewhere and no checks on bags. so target was quite cleverly chosen for max media impact and to get captured on live TV also.

paki taliban is the first one to say they did not do it. nobody else has said they did not do it.

This tells us two things.

1. pakis think they will be the number one suspects in any terrorist attacks..so they are out with a denial pronto.

2. Other sundry terrorist groups in other countries have no interest in denying this, because they know that nobody thinks they would be involved.

Some how I find the idea stupid that you need Guns to defend your self which perhaps was valid 200 years back when constitution was made and over taking governments by being armed was considered legitimate since then a lot has passed and people have become more civilized ....... In US the MIC has taken over and they tend to thrive on people fear and some constitutional amendments to keep them in business perpetually.

I just dread the thought of people in our country having the right to keep guns, we probably would have had many dedicated channel called "Darna Mana Hai " or "Savdhan"

Singha i saw the program you mentioned , it reflects the fear they live in.

The event is suspicious. The timing was immaculate. Nothing crude about the timing. It is done all the time in annual and multi-annual blasts conducted by nationals of the US ally Pakistan in India

Medical teams have also carried out at least 10 amputations and treated many leg injuries, suggesting the device was low to the ground, according to CNN's Deborah Feyerick.
Among the 28 people taken to the city's Brigham and Women's Hospital, the most common types of injuries are to the bone and tissue, hospital spokesman Tom Langford told CNN.
He said nine of those patients have potentially limb-threatening wounds. A 3-year-old victim was transferred to Boston Children's Hospital for treatment.
Amputated limbs
Dr. Peter Fagenholz, a trauma surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, told reporters he treated many of the 29 patients who arrived at the hospital for shrapnel wounds.
"Many of the victims were hit with "a lot of small, metal debris," he said.
"Some people have asked already whether they were BBs or parts of bombs," he said, referring to earlier reports that ball bearings have been pulled from victims. "We can't say whether they were placed their intentionally or whether they were just part of the environment."
I saw at least 6 to 7 people down next to me -- they protected me from the blast.
Spectator, Dr. Allan Panter
He said the most serious wounds "have been combined, complex lower injuries that involve blood vessels, bone and tissue." Some of the patients had to have limbs amputated, Fagenholz added.
"A number of patients will require repeat operations and serial operations over the next couple of days," he said, adding that he had been in surgery for almost 14 hours

I am somewhat bemused, in India, we would have ID'ed the exact explosive used, its provenance, the sleeper cells involved etc. by now and also shared the same.

Whats "its too early to say" nonsense in US? They think revealing the data will hurt the investigation? While talking about "police looking for dark skinned possibly asian male" type of statements? Thats like asking for lynch mobs instead of dealing with the issue.

Or is it that the needle is specifically at ISI/LeT and the Paki loving Kerry and Obama are in a funk as to how to react?

the MA police apparently has this huge semi trailer as a mobile incident command post. probably stuffed with comms gear and networked computers.

http://www.pbase.com/firefly019/image/31205461
http://www.pbase.com/firefly019/image/31269458

it was seen onsite yesterday.

our version of incident command seems to be a few senior officers in a jeep with wireless and cellphones. given the funding the same BEL teams who make the Samyukta type systems for IA can put together something useful for the tier-1 cities atleast. such posts might be useful in 26/11 type situations to act as a local hub for controlling the CT units, searches etc.
