Politics and sports should be kept apart: PCB
December 21, 2016 20:36 IST
'The PCB believes that politics and sports should be kept apart and we are always ready for talks on bilateral series. But it is also a fact that whenever bilateral cricket is revived Pakistan will be the hosts and not India as they owe us two series'
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is keen to revive a strong Asian bloc in world cricket but believes strained cricket relations with India are a hurdle in the way.
PCB chairman, Shahryar Khan returned home from Colombo after chairing the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting without any one-to-one meeting with the Indian cricket board officials or discussions on revival of Indo-Pak cricket.

Rats In PIA Planes ! Rats In Paki Parliament !

Pakistan declares war on rats in Parliament
ISLAMABAD – Special teams have waged a war on rats roaming in the Parliament House, with one rodent recently caught alive from the Prime Minister’s chamber ( spying on Ganja ?).Media reports suggest an operation has been underway for the past seven months in order to clear the House from rats. The special teams have successfully caught 430 rats, so far.The operation was launched in June 2016 by a private firm against a contract of Rs650,000 annually. The contract was awarded by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) responsible for the maintenance of the house. The firm is maintaining records of success diligently. During first month of the operation, the teams caught 236 rats, and in July 42, 34 in August, 34 in September, 32 in October, 28 in November and till date in December 24 rats were caught. This rat problem has stemmed due to the two cafeterias inside the Parliament House and the individual kitchens attached to the various committee rooms, Moreover, the kitchens that are attached to the chambers of the Speaker, Senate Chairman, Deputy Chairman Senate and other officials are also providing a safe haven to the rats. These kitchens are used for making luncheons and dinners on site; however more recently the events were being catered by a third party that brings cooked food items to the site.
So, the rats feel quite at home in the Paki Parliament ; Has someone filed an RTI (Right To Information) yet as to how many Honourable Members have been bitten by these "massive rodents" . Or is this information "secret" :D

Works out to 650,000/430 = ~Rs. 1500 per rat.

"Briefly Arrested" Pakistani Turns Out To Be A Balochi Refugee !

Activist Fled Pakistan Persecution To Find Trouble In Germany
Naveed Baloch, a 23-old separatist activist, fled torture and persecution in Pakistan. But nearly a year after undertaking the arduous 6,000-kilometer journey to claim asylum in Germany, Baloch was briefly arrested in connection with the December 19 attack in Berlin.
Wajid Baloch, a friend of Baloch’s but no relation, told RFE/RL’s Gandhara website he was unable to reach Naveed despite the German authorities saying they released him due to a lack of evidence late on December 20.
Wajid said Naveed arrived in Germany in February where his asylum application is being processed. He added his friend fled Pakistan after security forces raided his family home in Mand, a remote town in Kech district near Balochistan’s eastern border with Iran.Naveed’s cousin Waheed Baloch, also an asylum seeker in Berlin, told the BBC Urdu Service that Pakistani forces tortured Naveed during his detention last year.It was not possible to independently verify claims that Naveed was mistreated in Pakistan.
Another male relative of Naveed’s in Mand, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Gandhara they were shocked by the news of his arrest.
"It was unbelievable to hear about Naveed's alleged involvement in an act of terror act because he believes in civil liberties and human rights,” he said.
Sources close to Naveed’s family in Pakistan said he was a member of the secular separatist Baloch National Movement -- a political faction allied with the Baloch Liberation Front guerilla group.Wajid said Naveed is among hundreds of young Baluch activists who have fled Pakistani persecution and are now seeking asylum in various European countries.
Islamabad, however, rejects such claims and often accuses its regional archrival India of fomenting the unrest in Balochistan. Pakistani officials say the billions of dollars in Chinese investment will transform Balochistan’s Gwadar port into a hub of regional trade and transport.
This year, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for several large attacks in Balochistan that targeted the police, lawyers, and a Sufi shrine.

India, others stay out of regional tech moot
According to sources, all of the 14 member countries of APCTT were invited, but India, Bangladesh and Iran decided not to attend the meeting.
The countries attending the meeting are China, Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Samoa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
Modi-ji's plan of diplomatic isolation is on track; as a bonus, Iran and Bangladesh ( Ummah nations !) are treating Pakistan as a "pariah" entity

X Posted from the “India-US relations: News and Discussions III” thread.

India might be facing the prospect of having to tackle a Robin Raphael on steroids in the form of Lt. Gen Michael T. Flynn (Retd).

Michael Kugelman points out that Lt. Gen. Michael T Flynn (Retd), the US National Security Adviser Designate in the incoming Trump Administration, fed the Uniformed Jihadi’s of the Military of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan secret intelligence information:

Mike Flynn’s Pakistan Problem ; The incoming national security advisor allegedly shared classified intel with Pakistan’s notoriously compromised security services. What does that mean for Trump's "AfPak" policy?

The citied Washington Post article was titled “Trump’s national security adviser shared secrets without permission, files show” and is datelined December 14. The bitthat deals with the Islamic Republic is as follows:
Former U.S. officials said that Flynn had disclosed sensitive information to Pakistan in late 2009 or early 2010 about secret U.S. intelligence capabilities being used to monitor the Haqqani network, an insurgent group accused of repeated attacks on U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

Flynn exposed the capabilities during meetings with Pakistani officials in Islamabad. The former U.S. intelligence official said a CIA officer who accompanied Flynn reported the disclosures to CIA headquarters, which then relayed the complaint to the Defense Department. Flynn was verbally reprimanded by the Pentagon’s top intelligence official at the time, James R. Clapper Jr.

Clapper subsequently became director of national intelligence and endorsed Flynn to become his successor as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency. In 2014, however, Clapper forced Flynn out of that job over concerns with his temperament and management.

The newly disclosed Army documents state that the 2010 investigation was ordered by the head of U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Although the records do not say exactly when the case was opened, the commander at the time would have been Marine Gen. James Mattis.

Mattis took charge at Central Command’s headquarters in Tampa, Fla., in August 2010. One month later, Flynn was ordered back to Washington from Afghanistan. He was assigned to a temporary job at the Pentagon as the special assistant to the Army’s chief of intelligence while the investigation unfolded, records show.

Mattis was nominated this month by Trump to serve as secretary of defense. In that role, Mattis will work closely with Flynn; the retired generals are expected to be the most influential voices on national security in the Trump administration.

The Army documents that summarize the investigation into Flynn do not specify which countries he was accused of improperly sharing secrets with.

US charges Pakistani executive in $140m fake diploma scheme
The executive of a Pakistani company was charged in a US federal court on Wednesday for his part in an alleged $140 million 'fake-diploma mill' scheme, the latest step in a global crackdown touched off by arrests in Pakistan last year.Umair Hamid, 30, was charged in a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Manhattan with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection with a scam that impacted tens of thousands of consumers.Hamid, an executive at software firm Axact, was arrested on Monday, according to a statement by Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara. He was produced in a federal court in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, the following day.According to a press release issued by the US Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York, "Axact promoted and claimed to have an affiliation with approximately 350 fictitious high schools and universities, which Axact advertised online to consumers as genuine schools.
During certain time periods since 2014, Axact received approximately 5,000 phone calls per day from individuals seeking to purchase Axact products or enroll in educational institutions supposedly affiliated with Axact.
When consumers asked where the schools were located, sales representatives were instructed to give fictitious addresses."Hamid's lawyer could not be immediately identified. An email sent to Axact seeking comment bounced back. ("Deep State" would definitely know the "address" !)
According to court documents, Hamid stands accused of defrauding customers by managing and operating online companies that falsely claimed to be educational institutions, among other charges. He has been identified in the complaint as Axact’s "Assistant Vice President of International Relations".US authorities have accused Hamid of directing websites of so-called 'schools' to falsely represent that consumers who 'enrolled' with these schools by paying tuition fees would receive online instruction and coursework, and to sell false academic 'accreditations' in exchange for additional fees. The accusations extend to cover false representations by these schools that they had been certified or accredited by various educational organisations, and for falsely representing that degrees issued by these schools were valid and accepted by employers, including in the US.
Pakistan had asked US authorities last year to help it investigate Axact, which had been suspected of earning millions of dollars from the sale of bogus university degrees online. Like the "Paki Govt asking UN to "investigate" BB's assassination
Hamid resumed selling fake diplomas, duping US consumers into paying upfront fees to enroll in fake high schools and colleges even after Pakistani authorities shut Axact down in May 2015, according to Bharara's statement.
"Hamid allegedly took hefty upfront fees from young men and women seeking an education, leaving them with little more than useless pieces of paper," Bharara said. The "hefty fees" were genuine, the diplomas were counterfeit !

I have never gone to school, says President Mamnoon
President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday said he has never attended school and has missed out on the joys of school
the president was home schooled due to various reasons
That should explain the studied silence from el presidente during various periods of his presidency on vital subject matters. That's also why he never gets testy.

However, according to below sources, he has "<sic> attained the commerce degree from the Karachi University and later received an MBA from the famed IBA".

From the undisputed leader of bizzaroland comes this earth-shaking update: Taliban, al-Qaeda wiped out: PM
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has declared that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and al-Qaeda have been eliminated from the soil of Pakistan while Daesh doesn’t exist in the country
Despite paying a heavy price of lives and property and offering enormous sacrifices for elimination of terrorism, Pakistan’s resolve to play its role to eradicate terrorism completely from the region wouldn’t be shaken
The prime minister told the members that Pakistan had destroyed the infrastructure of terrorists in the bordering areas in the tribal belt that has broken the back of terrorists
...talking to members of the Collegiums of Chambers of the Parliamentarian Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina
The members on the occasion also announced their unflinching support for Pakistan and Nawaz Sharif on his position with regard to the Kashmir dispute
I guess operation bad-hazm is now officially over? Time for an official denial from the Bosnians on the cashmere statement.

Corruption is quite profitable in Pakistan! Even if you get caught! This was supposed to be an open-and-shut case!

Bureaucrat facing Rs40bn corruption charges ‘cleared’ After "Plea Bargaining " And Returning Of Rs 2 Billion

Case study of corruption under Sharia- (inspired ) Law (?); in murder cases, "murderers" go scott-free, after "victims" either accept money or are "forced" to accept the offered apologies. Did not know that Amreeki inspired "plea bargaining" has also been "introduced" in the service of Paki semi- Islamic Justice/Legal System

PS: Obviously , some sort of "sifarish" is at play here !

Fully Posted on the Analyzing CPEC Thread

Here comes the Rebuttal of Dr. Saleem's Three Articles : Gwadar, Why Cwadar and Hambantota

Gwadar, the CPEC and Hambatota - Malik Muhammad Ashraf
Notwithstanding the fact that the CPEC is a nationally owned mega-economic undertaking with the potential to change the economic profile of the whole region, more so that of Pakistan, a sustained campaign to belittle its importance continues unabated.

Some columnists have tried to equate Gwadar and the CPEC with the Hambantota deep seaport in Sri Lanka and other infrastructure projects built there. These columnists feel that Sri Lanka has been pushed into a debt trap – paying 95.4 percent of all its revenues on debt servicing – since Hambantota and all the infrastructure built there were massive investments that failed to generate the desired profits. According to them, Pakistan might also face the same situation if the CPEC does not prove to be a game-changer. The other contention is that the Gwadar Port, like Hambantota, is based on political considerations rather than on economic necessity and that the leadership in Pakistan is trying to gain political mileage by terming the CPEC a victory of their vision.

My view is that proponents of the foregoing assumptions have tried to over simplify things to prove their point. Drawing parallels between success and failure stories of two countries with different political setups, circumstances, geo-strategic importance and economic realities is always misleading. While it is true that the former Sri Lankan ruler Rajapakasa did it for political reasons as Hambantota was his home town, in the case of the CPEC the Chinese conceived the idea and Pakistan chose to become a partner in view of its potential.

Trump refuses to change stance on proposed Muslim ban

WASHINGTON: US President-elect and business tycoon Donald J. Trump refused to back down from his stance of a proposed ban on Muslims entering the United States of America, telling media personnel 'you know my plans', on Thursday.

Trump was speaking to media personnel when a reporter asked him to comment on the recent attacks that took place in Berlin and Ankara. The billionaire condemned the violence that took place in the two cities recently.

"You know my plans. All along, I’ve been proven to be right. 100% correct. What’s happening is disgraceful," he said.

He referred to the attack on people who were shopping for Christmas in Berlin as 'an attack on humanity' and stated that 'it must be stopped'.

The US President-elect stated that he had not spoken to the incumbent President of the United States, Barack Obama.

In an initial statement condemning the Berlin attack, Trump had placed blame on militant outfits and their schemes to murder via their aim of imposing global jihad.

"ISIS and other Islamist terrorists continually slaughter Christians in their communities and places of worship as part of their global jihad," he had said.

Trial Balloon To Trump: Exchange "Al-Qaeda Lady" - Dr Aafia Siddiqui With Dr. Shakil Afridi, Alleged C.I.A Agent

If extradition necessary, Aafia should be exchanged, suggests Fowzia
Karachi: The sister of Aafia Siddiqui and leader of Aafia Movement, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has said the special assistant to the Prime Minister, Tariq Fatemi has told the nation that Pakistan is ready to seek ways and means to resolve the matter of Dr Shakil Afridi, but he did not tell what steps his government has taken for the release of the innocent Aafia. She reminded that the honorable courts have already issued orders to the government to take steps for the repatriation of Dr Aafia.
In a statement here Wednesday, she said that the US envoy has already said that they are ready to exchange Dr Aafia for Shakil Afridi.
She said if the government and the state of Pakistan have no other option but to hand over a criminal to the America, they should seek an honorable release and repatriation of the daughter of the nation, Aafia Siddiqui in exchange; at least save our face as a nation and country.
IMO, President Elect Trump is not likely to agree to such an exchange; Dr Aafia married to a nephew of KSM, has a history of "supporting Al-Qaeda causes"; Dr Afridi on the other hand, has just become a scapegoat because of the OBL killing !

Old News Dated 02-12-2016 - X Posted on the IWT Thread

Alarming situation: ‘Century-old canal system results in 40% water losses’

MULTAN: The century-old canal irrigation system in Punjab is facing a number of operational problems resulting in a high degree of losses of water during conveyance of irrigation water to agricultural lands.

This was said by Agricultural Information Assistant Director Naveed Asmat Kahloon while speaking to The Express Tribune.

While sharing details, he said at least 40% water losses had been reported due to poor maintenance and dilapidated condition of irrigation system in the province. He said channel comprises of about 58,000 watercourses which irrigate 37.46 million acres of land. “This is resulting in severe shortage of irrigation supplies at farm level that is being further aggravated due to escalating pressure on agriculture because of rapidly increasing population,”* he added.

Naveed said seepage, spillage and side leakage resulting from irregular profile and zigzag alignment of banks were the major reasons of water loss. In addition, he said silt deposition, causing restrictions in flows and overtopping, shrubs, vegetation and trees growing in way of watercourses, varying cross sections of the conveyance channel, frequent bank cuttings and plugging for water diversion and damage caused by rodents and animals also result in loss of water.

The solution

He emphasised these losses could be minimised by adopting watercourse improvement procedure which consists of complete demolishing of community channel and its rebuilding/re-aligning according to the engineering design to increase conveyance efficiency by reducing seepage, evaporation and operational losses.

He maintained since inception of On Farm Water Management Programme, at least 44,000 watercourses had been remodeled and reconstructed according to engineering design in the canal commanded areas of Punjab.

The assistant director pointed out, “The intervention has generated significant economic, financial, social and environmental benefits.” He said the strategy has been widely accepted by the farmers, planners and policy makers at national as well as international level.

He further said different impacts of evaluation studies of watercourse improvement programme had been carried out by various organisations/institutions. The findings of these assessments revealed that the scheme was highly cost effective for improving farm gate water availability. He said, “The government is providing entire cost of construction materials, besides providing technical guidance while the farmers are required to contribute entire labour costs for improvement of the watercourses.

how hindu girls are enslaved in Pakistan
'They always choose the prettiest': How girls are enslaved for debt payment in Pakistan
MIRPUR KHAS: The girl called Jeevti was just 14 when she taken from her family in the night to be married off to a man who says her family owed him $1,000. .
Her mother, Ameri Kashi Kohli, is sure that her daughter paid the price for a never-ending debt. .
Ameri says she and her husband borrowed roughly $500 when they first began to work on the land, but she throws up her hands and says the debt was repaid. .
It's a familiar story here in southern Pakistan: Small loans balloon into impossible debts, bills multiply, payments are never deducted. .
In this world, women like Ameri and her young daughter are treated as property: taken as payment for a debt, to settle disputes, or as revenge if a landowner wants to punish his worker. Sometimes parents, burdened by an unforgiving debt, even offer their daughters as payment. .
The women are like trophies to the men. They choose the prettiest, the young and pliable. Sometimes they take them as second wives to look after their homes. Sometimes they use them as prostitutes to earn money. Sometimes they take them simply because they can. .
"I went to the police and to the court. But no one is listening to us," says Ameri, who is Hindu. She says the land manager made her daughter convert to Islam and took the girl as his second wife. "They told us, 'Your daughter has committed to Islam and you can't get her back."' .
More than 2 million Pakistanis live as "modern slaves," according to the 2016 Global Slavery Index, which ranks Pakistan in the top three offending countries that still enslave people, some as farm workers, others at brick kilns or as household staff. Sometimes the workers are beaten or chained to keep them from fleeing. .
"They have no rights, and their women and girls are the most vulnerable," says Ghulam Hayder, whose Green Rural Development Organization works to free Pakistan's bonded laborers. .
An estimated 1,000 young Christian and Hindu girls, most of them underage and impoverished, are taken from their homes each year, converted to Islam and married, said a report by the South Asia Partnership organization. .
Hayder says, "They always take the pretty ones." .
The night Jeevti disappeared, the family had slept outside, the only way to endure the brutal summer heat here in southern Sindh province. In the morning, she was gone. No one heard anything, her mother says. .
The family turned to activist Veero Kohli to help free the girl. .
Kohli, who isn't related to the family, was born a slave. Since fleeing bondage in 1999, she has devoted herself to challenging Pakistan's powerful landowners, liberating thousands of families from bonded labor. .
Kohli's defiance incenses many men in a country dominated by a centuries-old patriarchal culture. .
"I know that they would like to kill me, but I will never stop fighting to free these people,' she says. .
Five months ago, she went with Ameri to the Piyaro Lundh police station to find her daughter. They said the girl went willingly, Kohli says. "I told them: 'Let me talk to her. Let her mother talk to her if she went freely."' They refused. .
Instead, they called in the man who Ameri said had taken her daughter. Hamid Brohi, came alone, without the girl. "He said, 'Anyway, she is payment for 100,000 rupees ($1,000) they owe me,"' Kohli recalls. .
Now Kohli is returning to the same police station, where police officer Aqueel Ahmed thumbs through a dozen files, barely containing his anger at the activist. .
Finally, he pulls out an affidavit. In it, the girl, who now goes by the name Fatima, said she had converted freely and married Brohi of her own free will. She also said she couldn't meet her mother because now she was Muslim and her family was Hindu. .
Hindu activists say the girls are kept isolated until they have been forced to convert and are married - and then it's almost too late to do anything. .
Under pressure, police in a machine-gun-mounted jeep finally take Kohli and a foreign reporter to visit the girl. Her mother doesn't come, too afraid, she says, to confront the police in person again. .
Brohi, a sullen-looking man with a thin mustache, greets the police with an embrace. He angrily denies he took Jeevti as payment for the family's debt, despite his earlier boast to the activist that he had done just that. .
Inside, Jeevti sits on a double mattress on the floor, her head wrapped in a black shawl. She wears heavy eyeshadow and exaggerated bright red lipstick, like a child who has put on her mother's makeup - or one who is attempting to look older. .
Although she doesn't seem afraid, her eyes dart to the door where her husband hovers. When she speaks, her words seem rehearsed. .
"I married him because I wanted to," she says. "I myself asked him that as we are lovers, we should get married. So he said, 'Let's get married,' and I said yes." She denies that she hasn't seen her mother since leaving. But she can't say when she saw her mother last - or even where she lives, now that the family has fled its old home. She is quiet when asked why her court affidavit says she refused to talk to her mother because she had converted to Islam.
She says she doesn't know what is in the court documents, although each one the police showed said Jeevti had spoken the words herself.
The next day, the visitors return — without a police escort.
Inside the compound, there are only women, and no one knows Fatima. The door to the room where she sat the day before is padlocked. It is as if the compound was but a stage set for a young girls performance

Chinese Investors Now Control Pakistan's Three Stock Exchanges !

PSX sells 40pc stake to Chinese consortium
KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) sold 40 per cent strategic shares on Thursday to a Chinese consortium that made the highest bid of Rs28 per share for 320 million shares on offer. The value of the transaction is calculated to be Rs8.96 billion ($85 million).
The Chinese consortium comprises three Chinese exchanges — China Financial Futures Exchange Company Limited (lead bidder), Shanghai Stock Exchange and Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Together they will take up 30pc of the strategic stock while two local financial institutions — Pak-China Investment Company Limited and Habib Bank Limited — will pick up 5pc each, the maximum permitted to a single institution under the regulations.
The significant feature of the deal lies in the fact that it is the first such sale of strategic interest in a bourse in the regional markets. Through the deal, the Chinese bourse has also made its first foray in an acquisition outside China.
The Chinese, it seems to me are using Pakistan as an "economic experimental lab" , for their future plans ; slowly and surely, the Pakis are becoming a Chini colony (CPEC, integration into Chini satellite system, acquisition of Karachi Electric Company, etc etc ); next project : introduction of "polk products in Pakistan"

Another "good" economic news concerning Pakistan !

Profit repatriation surpasses FDI by 28pc
KARACHI: The repatriation of foreign exchange in the form of profits and dividends on foreign direct investment (FDI) surpassed the net FDI inflow by 28 per cent in the first five months of the current fiscal year.Data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Thursday shows that the outflow in the form of profits and dividends on FDI was $591 million in July-Nov.
The situation was better in 2015-16 because FDI was higher than the payment on FDI. FDI amounted to $840m while the repatriation remained $640m.
The exchange rate is already under pressure in the open market.
The country’s exports have been declining for some time. Now export proceeds cover only 50pc of imports, which reflects a deviation from the situation that existed 10 years back when they equalled up to 80pc of the import bill.Another report showed the repatriation of profits and dividends in 2015-16 was $2bn. It can be more problematic in the wake of an increasing current account deficit, which jumped 91pc to $2.6bn in July-Nov.

Chini blothers to help out ?

^How is that even possible? Who would lend them money against such collateral that they can never collect on? Looks like some kind of corruption or money laundering scheme, over and above the debt trap level of borrowing.

India speeding up Indus basin water plan: report
Published in Dawn, December 23rd, 2016
NEW DELHI: India is stepping up efforts to maximise its use of the western rivers of the Indus basin, the BBC reported on Thursday quoting senior officials.
The move would involve building huge storage facilities and canals, it said. The three rivers flow through India-held Kashmir but most of the water is allotted to Pakistan under an international treaty. The officials, however, said the move would not violate the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said a government task force is finalising details of the water project, which he has made a priority.
Experts say New Delhi is using water issue to put pressure on Pakistan in dispute over Kashmir
“The ball has started rolling and we will see some results soon, most of them will be about building new storages in the basin,” one top official told BBC on condition of anonymity. Another senior official said: “We are quite familiar with the terrain as we have already built a number of structures there.” But he added: “We are talking about few years here.”
The report quoted unnamed experts as saying Delhi was using the water issue to put pressure on Pakistan in the dispute over Kashmir. There is also speculation that state polls in Indian Punjab could be a factor for the stepped up rhetoric.
India wants to “maximise” its use of water from the Indus, Chenab and Jhelum rivers. Millions of people in the two countries depend on water in the rivers. “An official with India’s water resources ministry insisted that this action would be ‘well within’ the terms of the Indus Waters Treaty,” the BBC said.
India reportedly began reviewing the treaty after a militant attack in India-held Kashmir in September in which 19 soldiers were killed.
New Delhi accused Islamabad of being behind the attack and relations deteriorated, leading to a rise in cross-border tensions.
The IWT was signed in 1960 and allocated the three eastern rivers — the Ravi, Beas and Sutlej — of the Indus basin to India, while 80 per cent of the three western ones — the Indus, Jhelum and Chenab — was allotted to Pakistan.
India says it has not fully utilised the 20 per cent of water given to it in the three western rivers. Pakistan disputes this.

I wouldn't underestimate Pakistaniyat though- when/if the time comes they won't bat an eyelid rejecting all previous claims while asking tarrel brothers for more handouts. I think the Chinese are also going to learn a few lessons.

Touchdown: Zardari lands in Pakistan after 18 months in self-imposed 'exile'

Dus percenti had this to say (or quotes from the mouth of an imbecile):
I remember the day when Bibi (Benazir Bhutto) came here and you were here to welcome her. Bibi is [still] here with us, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto is [also] here with us.
I have brought the message of hope
Pakistan is not a country of terrorists
We may occasionally leave the country, but we will always be buried in its soil
Enjoy. We are in for some fun moments.

A Pakistani ( HINDU)girl is snatched away, payment for a family debt
The mother rummages through a large metal trunk, searching for a picture of her young daughter taken away in the night to be the bride of a man who says the family owed him $1,000.Beneath the blankets, clothes and silver ornaments that she wears with her sari, Ameri Kashi Kohli finds two photos, carefully wrapped in plastic, of her smiling daughters.Ameri tries to remember her daughter Jeevti's age; few of this country's desperately poor have birth certificates. With grin at a sudden recollection she says, "I remember her sister, my youngest, was born when there was a big earthquake in Pakistan."that was 2005. Jeevti was 3 years old at the time, Ameri says. That means the girl was just 14 when she disappeared into the hands of the land manager her parents were beholden to.Her mother is sure that Jeevti paid the price for a never-ending debt.Ameri says she and her husband borrowed roughly $500 when they first began to work on the land, but she throws up her hands and says the debt was repaid. "We started with a loan, and every time they said they were taking money for our loan, but no one gave us anything to show we paid." Instead, the debt doubled. It's a familiar story here in southern Pakistan: Small loans balloon into impossible debts, bills multiply, payments are never deducted.
In this world, women like Ameri and her young daughter are treated as property: taken as payment for a debt, to settle disputes, or as revenge if a landowner wants to punish his worker. Sometimes parents, burdened by an unforgiving debt, even offer their daughters as payment. The women are like trophies to the men. They choose the prettiest and the young and pliable. Sometimes they take them as second wives to look after their homes. Sometimes they use them as prostitutes to earn money. Sometimes they take them simply because they can.Ameri says she has heard stories of other workers whose daughters disappeared, in a country that sees an estimated 1,000 girls like them taken each year. Now, even though she and her family live elsewhere after being tossed out of their home, she's afraid that her 11-year-old could be taken too.And like everything else in her life, as a Hindu in a Muslim country, as a woman who is among the poorest of the poor, she knows she will be powerless to stop it from happening."I went to the police and to the court. But no one is listening to us," Ameri says. She says the land manager made her daughter convert to Islam and took the girl as his second wife. "They told us, 'Your daughter has committed to Islam and you can't get her back.'"
