I think that is a very smug assessment. The US has always attracted the best and brightest from all over the world and Americans tend to put aside ethnic prejudice in favor of results. It isn't always fair or smooth in the process, but overall the US works well, or at least it has in the last 50 years, and in the future it may be different.svinayak wrote:http://www.cnet.com/news/will-nadella-a ... ech-visas/
We Americans need to admit that India is a far more advanced race and everytime I wonder why - only one thing comes to my mind - Endless Doctors and Countless Engineers and Architects in IT and Software, even Elect Politicians in America.
Indians have built America far more than any other Nationality in our history - There's no doubt about that..
And NO - They're not taking our jobs its just that they're better than the rest of the world hence we hire them for our Companys profits, benefits and their talents - the entire country is a proof of that and nobody can't deny that.
yes, I'm White American and I do give credit to where its due.
More importantly why?LokeshC wrote:The bigger question is, how did he get on the plane from NYC to India with ammunition in the jacket?
Did he acquire the bullets in India? If so when, where, how? Also: Is he a gora dude?
That doesn't compute. If he is culinary, he would have been extra careful to not get caught on some triviality like this. He would gave other ways and means of getting far more powerful weapons through other channels.Manas wrote:This gentleman seems to be a chef of the Culinary Institute. Two US lawmakers have asked Secretary of State John Kerry to demand the release of Manny Encarnacion after US tabloid, New York Post, termed his arrest as New Delhi's revenge for the Devyani Khobragade affair, reported IANS
There is a lot of butthurt at not being given special privileges. And yes, the American lawmakers need to introspect on the violence in their country.By Post's account, a security officer at the airport snarked, "You guys like to strip-search our diplomats," as Encarnacion was arrested on felony charges under India's Arms Act of 1959 - punishable by anywhere from three to seven years
There hve been a number of US visitors to Mexico who have been incarcerated for carrying a few bullets across the border. These US tourists have lost everything in paying money to the legal authories in order to obtain their release from prison. It is one of the reasons I don't go to Mexico. Tourist business across the border from Texas has largely disappeared due to the violence from the cartels and the reaction of the police there.Sonugn wrote:US lawmakers see New York cop's arrest in Delhi as revenge for Devyani Khobragade caseTwo US lawmakers have asked Secretary of State John Kerry to demand the release of Manny Encarnacion after US tabloid, New York Post, termed his arrest as New Delhi's revenge for the Devyani Khobragade affair, reported IANSThere is a lot of butthurt at not being given special privileges. American regimes routinely invades other countries and is the only country that has dropped nuclear bombs on a non nuclear state. How do you know that the bullets were forgotten? And by the way you should he happy at the enforcement of laws. Indian land. Indian laws. And yes, i am happy that the law enforcement agencies are doing their work properly. No need to bring Mexico into picture here. It would be revenge if a diplomat was examined rectally by a rouge cop. Stop demanding special treatment. So please don't think you are popping anybody's cherry in the regard of some forgotten bullets carried by a US police officer.
And oh by the way, the US can respond any number of ways if you guys insist on taking revenge on non diplomatic resources and personnel in the DK affair. However, I don't think the above news of the police officer is an example of India's revenge for the DK affair to be quite honest. You're just glad to see an American thrown into jail even if it's on an unrelated matter.
Bhubaneswar: An American engineer was arrested today from the Biju Patnaik Airport in Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar after security staff found eight bullets in his possession, police said.
25-year-old William Michael Hurtubise, an engineer with US-based SPX Service, was found carrying the bullets just before his scheduled departure on a chartered chopper from the state capital on Tuesday, airfield police station chief Rashmi Ranjan Sahoo told IANS.
He was contracted by an offshore drilling contractor to inspect an engine at a drilling rig in the Bay of Bengal near the port town of Paradip, about 100 km from Bhubaneswar, police said.
Hurtubise was scheduled to travel by the chartered helicopter. The Central Industrial Security Force staff found the 0.22 mm bullets in one of his bags during the security check at the airport, Sahoo said.
"The CISF later handed him over to police. He was, however, not carrying any fire arm," he said.
"I have no bad intention. It was a mistake on my part," Hurtubise told police. He said he possesses an arm licence in the US and unknowingly carried the bullets.
He said he reached Bhubaneswar Tuesday from Holland and on the way his baggage was also checked at the Delhi airport but no objections were raised, police said.
Congressmen will write similar letters and statements on behalf of anyone who petitions. I can show a few. What is aurprising is that a)it is "news", b) that they connected it with DK on the basis of an alleged statement, more likely an attempt to gain leverage and divert attention from the actual "mistake".Virupaksha wrote:It is the inbuilt racism in Americans which comes out like that. The arrested cop is of mexican heritage.
What it actually tells me is the lax security in the US itself.
My inferences: That two congress men intervened for a cop and he has an iranian student still studying in Iran no less, there is a very high chance that he is on a CIA or FBI mission. He might be Raymond Davis redux.
Words that will pass admin censure cannot describe what I feel on reading that, but I hope the writer can understand exactly what I mean. d) Allowing people to board planes going to America, carrying bullets, bombs, underwear filled with RDX, etc, would, I suppose constitute "non-revenge" for abusing diplomats? Or is it the position of self-proclaimed, uniquely "American" postors that certain "Americans" are above all laws?? Should Airport Security assume that someone with a nice "American" name, say, like David Headley, should be allowed to proceed unquestioned, despite violating all laws and common sense? In 1997, 30-year-old Abner Louima was married, had one child, and had been living in Brooklyn for the previous six years. Although he had trained as an electrical engineer in Haiti, Louima worked as a security guard in a water-and-sewage plant in Flatlands, Brooklyn.[1][2] In the ensuing scuffle, Volpe was struck by a "sucker-punch" and identified Louima as his assailant. Volpe arrested Louima on charges of disorderly conduct, obstructing government administration, and resisting arrest. Volpe later admitted he was mistaken about Louima being his assailant.[3]
The arresting officers beat Louima with their fists, nightsticks, and hand-held police radios on the ride to the station.[4] On arriving at the station house, he was strip-searched and put in a holding cell. The beating continued later, culminating with Louima being sexually assaulted in a bathroom at the 70th Precinct station house in Brooklyn. Volpe kicked Louima in the testicles, then, while Louima's hands were cuffed behind his back, he first grabbed onto and squeezed his testicles and then sodomized him with a broom handle. According to trial testimony, Volpe then walked through the precinct holding the bloody, excrement-stained instrument in his hand, bragging to a police sergeant that he "took a man down tonight."[5]
Louima's teeth were also badly damaged in the attack by having the broom handle jammed into his mouth.[6] He testified to the presence of a second officer in the bathroom helping Volpe in the assault but he could not positively identify him. The identity of the second attacker became a point of serious contention during the trial and appeals. Louima also initially claimed that the officers involved in the attack called him a racial slur and shouted, "This is Giuliani-time" during the beating.[7] Louima later recanted this claim, and the reversal was used by defense lawyers to cast doubt on the entirety of his testimony.[8]
The day after the incident, Louima was taken to the emergency room at Coney Island Hospital. Escorting officers explained away his serious injuries being a result of "abnormal homosexual activities". An emergency room nurse, Magalie Laurent, suspecting the nature of Louima's extreme injuries were not the result of gay sex, notified Louima's family and the Police Department's Internal Affairs Bureau of the likelihood of sexual assault and battery.[4] The attack left Louima with severe internal damage to his colon and bladder that required three major operations to repair. He was hospitalized for two months after the incident.[3][8]
Sickeningly infantile, just like the post about "you guys". But not surprising.THEY MENTIONED A DIPLOMAT!! SO THEY HAD IT IN FOR ME!!!
It's a good thing posters on this thread are highly knowledgeable and know US law inside and out.b) The law in America prohibits carrying bullets, bombs, guns etc in baggage without declaring and obtaining specific permission: violation is punishable by 5 years in jail - clearly a felony conviction.
Hurtubise was arrested on September 18, when he was caught with eight .22-caliber bullets in his travel bag and subsequently arrested. Hurtubise has maintained throughout that he had no criminal intent for having the bullets, and simply forgot to check his bag before leaving home in Houston.
Incredibly, Hurtubise not only made it onto a plane in Houston with the bullets, but also a connecting flight in Amsterdam, and finally went through New Delhi airport with the live ammunition in his luggage. It was only when he attempted to board a private helicopter at Biju Patnaik Airport, headed for Paradip, that he was caught and taken into police custody.
Hurtubise agreed to a conditional bail plea on October 9, and was allowed to leave the Jharpara jail on October 21, but only under the provision that he does not leave Bhubaneswar, the capital of the east Indian state of Odisha. Hurtubise, a 27 year-old engineer, was originally there on business.
Numerous internet donation drives have popped up in the months following Hurtubise’s arrest, with one estimating the costs needed to argue his case and win his freedom at roughly $75,000. He has no known criminal record and is described as a genial, well-to-do young man who simply got caught in an unfortunate mix-up.
Indian authorities, at this point, are simply trying to confirm that Hurtubise had no motive behind bringing the eight bullets with him and, more importantly, how he was able to go through three airports and not get caught with them. Needless to say, the security ramifications of someone being able to do that are alarming.
There is no word yet on when Hurtubise is due back in court, nor when he may finally be able to go back home to Houston.

This man came via Holland through Delhi. He was not caught at any airport perhaps because there were no bullets in his bag then.. That could mean he picked up the bullets in India - which would make things worse for himA_Gupta wrote:More on that other American carrying bullets, Hurtubise, this from Dec 10, 2013

A 68-year-old Canadian woman with a passion for shooting sports, found herself in trouble after she was caught with 38 live cartridges at the city airport. She was arrested and remanded in police custody. A case was registered against her under the Arms Act, the police said.
According to sources, the incident took place on Tuesday when the accused, Irene Mathias, was on her way to London in a British Airways flight.
During the security check, MIAL security officials found bullet like objects in one of her baggage.
“On further check, 38 live cartridges were found from the bag,” said the source. Mathias came to India five days ago.
Initially, Mathias pleaded ignorance. “She told that since she plays lots of gun sports, the bullet might have possibly packed into her bag by mistake,” says senior police inspector Ravindra Patil of Sahar police station. Sources said considering her age, the cops did not keep her in the lockup.

AURANGABAD: The MIDCCidco police on Friday arrested SundarBaidansinghYadav, a 42-year-old property dealer from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, for carrying eight bullets in his baggage without declaring them to the airport authorities. The bullets were recovered from him in the baggage scan at the Aurangabad airport, when he was about to board a Delhi-bound flight. He has been booked under the Arms Act.
St. Jude Medical’s (NYSE:STJ) chief executive officer was arrested in India on Wednesday after authorities at the Delhi airport found a single live round tucked into a knee pocket of his cargo pants, according to media reports.
Daniel Starks was in India on business and was about to take a chartered flight from the Indira Gandhi International Airport to Dharamsala. But he was stopped by India’s Central Industrial Security Force in the airport’s VIP lounge. Authorities found a 45-caliber shell in his pants. Such a caliber is most often associated with a handgun.
