Former US Intelligence officials views on the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s two timing.

Former Central Intelligence Agency Director Michael Hayden:

"It is clear, it is unarguable, that the Pakistani government, particularly the Pakistani security establishment - the army and the ISI - view the Haqqani network, that's the Taliban group in North Waziristan, [as] more of an - in their calculus they know it's an enemy of the United States, but in their calculus it's dominated by the fact that they believe that the Haqqani network is a friend of Pakistan. And that may be the single most troubling aspect of the relationship: our divergence of views on that particular network,"

Former Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair:

"There were trying, and they still are, to take advantage of the help that they can get from the United States while still thinking, well, maybe the United States won't be here, maybe we have to look out for our own interests, and we need contact with many different groups, both countries and these various terrorist groups. And in addition, they have a tradition of trying to play off these extremist groups against each another."

Somali pirates' Pakistan link confirmed
AHMEDABAD: It is now official: Somali pirates are being trained in Pakistan to carry out a proxy war against India.

Though Indian security agencies had been hinting at a Pakistani link to Somali pirates for long, material evidence to support this assertion has been recently recovered. The evidence was obtained from nine foreign nationals caught from a hijacked Iranian vessel - MV Nafis-1, by the Indian Navy 170 nautical miles off Mumbai on August 14.

The vessel was brought to Porbandar on August 15 and those arrested - five Yemenis, two Tanzanians, one Kenyan and one Somali national - were handed over to Porbandar police for interrogation. Gujarat customs officials had seized a large quantity of food items from the vessel and also found that rice packets and juice pouches bore names of Pakistani companies with addresses written in Urdu.

Gujarat customs officials also recovered two AK-47s, a pistol and a cache of foreign currency including $ 86,000 and 1,500 Saudi Riyals. Officials seized bags full of tea leaves, which customs officials believe, were chewed by the pirates to stay awake.

"On several occasions we seized weapons and magazines from pirates or hijacked ships in Indian waters. These weapons bore the stamp of Pakistani ordnance factories. In this case, the guns have no label but the food items are packed and manufactured in Pakistan. Smugglers are not generally found carrying such a large amount of foreign currency," said a senior customs official.

US Senator Mark Kirk (who took over Barak Obama's seat in the senate) is also a U.S. Naval intelligence officer has returned from a 2 week deployment to Afghanistan. And he has seen enough to reach some conclusions about the Pakisatanis.

Senator Kirk: Stop aid to Pakistan
Following a two-week deployment to Afghanistan, Sen. Mark Kirk, a U.S. Naval intelligence officer, is offering a bold proposal to save the United States money and punish a disloyal ally: Cut off all aid to Pakistan.

Furthermore, Kirk would invite Pakistan’s neighbor/nemesis India to take over the United States’ leadership role in rebuilding Afghanistan after the United States begins pulling out this year.

“I think the United States should tilt toward India,” Kirk said.

Pointing to a map of Afghanistan, the Illinois Republican told the Sun-Times Editorial Board Tuesday that the newest hot spots in the Eastern region around the capital of Kabul are coming under the influence of the “Haqqani network” which is based in Pakistan and protected by the Pakistani government and military.

“As much as the Pakistani officials claim otherwise, the Haqqanis are backed and protected by Pakistan’s own intelligence service,” Kirk said. “Statements by Pakistani government officials to the contrary are lies.”

While the government of Pakistan does cooperate with the United states on “two dozen” captures or killings of Al Quaida officials every year, the Pakistani government’s protection of forces that are killing American troops outweighs the benefits of U.S. support, Kirk argued.

Continued aid to Pakistan is “naive at best, counter-productive at worst,” Kirk said.

“Building schools and hospitals in Tajikistan, which is for us, might help the same number of human beings on the planet,” Kirk said.

US Senator Mark Kirk’s scathing attack:
Kirk Delivers Address Following Navy Reserve Assignment in Afghanistan

Kirk: Reconsidering Benefit of Aid to Pakistan …………………………..

Tuesday, Sep 6 Afghans are most victimized by their neighbors, the Pakistanis. I first served as a reservist in Afghanistan in 2008. I believed that Pakistan was "complicated," that "we have many interests there" and that we must advance "diplomatically." I no longer agree with that.

Pakistan has become the main threat to Afghanistan. Pakistan's intelligence service is the biggest danger to the Afghan government. It is also a tremendous threat to the lives of American troops. Let me be clear: many Americans died in Afghanistan because of Pakistan's ISI.
As much as the Pakistani officials claim otherwise, the Haqqanis are backed and protected by Pakistan's own intelligence service. Statements by Pakistani government officials to the contrary are direct lies.

The Haqqani network kills Americans, attacks the elected government of Afghanistan and remains protected in its Pakistani headquarters of Miriam Shah. Without that Pakistani safe haven, it would suffer the same fate as Al Qaeda. Afghan and U.S. Special Operations teams take out many Talibancommanders and operators each night but numerous key Haqqani leaders spend all day planning attacks on Americans in Afghanistan -- then sleep soundly in their beds in Pakistan.

In such an environment, and with our deficits and debt, aid to Pakistan seems naive at best and counter-productive at worst. I am seriously reconsidering and rethinking how well aid to Pakistan served us.

Brooklyn Man Accused of Seeking to Join Terror Group
A 27-year-old man living in Brooklyn was arraigned in federal court on Friday on charges that he provided material support to terrorists and had been planning to join a radical Islamic group in Pakistan.

The man, Agron Hasbajrami, an Albanian citizen who had been living legally in Brooklyn since 2008, had sent more than $1,000 to a contact in Pakistan over the past year for the purpose of financing terrorist activities abroad, authorities said in a federal detention order unsealed Friday.

Mr. Hasbajrami, had told his contact that he wanted to “marry with the girls in paradise,” a common reference to dying as a martyr while fighting jihad. :rotfl:
Mr. Hasbarjami’s contact told him that he needed to bring enough money for food and a weapon, and had given him instructions for his travel that would take him from Turkey to Iran to Pakistan. But Mr. Hasbajrami said he had to cancel one trip out of Newark Liberty International Airport in August out of suspicion that he might be discovered, according to the detention order, referring to e-mails intercepted by the F.B.I.

Excerpts from the September 20, 2011 US Department of Defense (DOD) News Briefing with Secretary Panetta and Adm. Mullen from the Pentagon dealing with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s links, particularly those of the ISI / ISID, to Islamic Terrorists:
Q: After the series of attacks in Kabul, is there any greater U.S. willingness to take unilateral action against the Haqqanis across the border in Pakistan? And if not, what can you do about it?

SEC. PANETTA: Well, I made the point, and I think Mike Mullen has made the same point, that, look, we are going to take whatever steps are necessary to protect our forces. With -- and I’m not going to talk about, you know, particular strategies to, in fact, implement that commitment.

But our biggest concern right now is to put as much pressure as possible on the Pakistanis to exercise control from their side of the border. We’ve continued to state that this cannot happen. We cannot have the Haqqanis coming across the border, attacking our forces, attacking Afghanistan -- Afghanistanis and then disappearing back into a safe haven. That is not tolerable.

And we have urged them to take steps. Mike Mullen met with General Kayani recently to urge that same point. And we’ll continue to do that. I think they’re -- I think they’ve heard the message, but we’ll see.
Q: To go back to -- on the Haqqani, you know, Mr. Secretary, you said that think that the Pakistanis have heard your pleas about what needs to be done inside their borders, and that, Mr. Chairman, you met with Kayani. We’ve heard that for several years now, that we think they’ve heard us, but we want them to do more, and you’ve kept meeting with the general over and over again. Have you been wrong in this strategy of not having a harder fist with them, taking a tougher stand? Is there something else that could have been done that would have made -- have changed this narrative, after all this time?

ADM. MULLEN: I think the substance of the meeting just the other day, as well as the vast majority of meetings that I’ve had with General Kayani, have been to work towards a way that we can sustain the relationship. It’s going to go up and down. We’ve had a very tough patch here over the last several months.

I just -- I would want to reassure you that I addressed this issue very strongly with General Kayani the other night, last Friday night, when I met with him. It was the heart of the discussion, that the Haqqani -- the proxy connection to the ISI, the Haqqanis working across border, killing our people, killing Afghans, has to stop.

That’s not a new message, but it’s one that he clearly understands, and I think it’s one we have to keep reiterating.

All of that said, I think the strength of having met with him so many times is that we have sustained a relationship, you know, when things are going better as well as when things are not going well. And recently they haven’t gone well, but we’ve been able to sustain that and start to move it again in a more positive direction. But the clarity with which I addressed this issue, there just -- there can be no question and no doubt.

SEC. PANETTA: The approach has to be for Pakistan to continue to put pressure on them -- continue to put pressure on them. That’s what we’ve been doing over the last few years. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t work. But the fact is that the most important thing we can do is keep the pressure on. Obviously, they cooperate with us in some areas. There are other areas where we have disagreements.

Very frankly, terrorism is as much a threat for them as it is for us. And we keep telling them, you can’t choose among terrorists. If you’re -- if you’re against terrorism, you have to be against all forms of terrorism. And that’s something we just have to continue to stress.

Pakistan’s Spy Agency Is Tied to Attack on U.S. Embassy

By ELISABETH BUMILLER and JANE PERLEZ ……………………..

Published: September 22, 2011 “With ISI support, Haqqani operatives planned and conducted that truck bomb attack, as well as the assault on our embassy,” Admiral Mullen said in a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “We also have credible evidence that they were behind the June 28th attack against the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul and a host of other smaller but effective operations.”

In short, he said, “the Haqqani network acts as a veritable arm of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency.”
Despite the angst ridden comment by Admiral Mullen, expect yet more of the same with regard to relations between the US and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan with the US dhimmifully continuing liberally paying Jaziya to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan  :
“Some may argue I’ve wasted my time, that Pakistan is no closer to us than before, and may now have drifted even further away. I disagree. Military cooperation again is warming.”

Sure, but very few. Depends on what paper he's reading, how his wife is dressed, what the content of the children's homework is... and most importantly, where he gets his money from, so that he can come home, and sit down with a paper and cup of tea while his wife fries something in the nicely appointed kitchen.

After the United States even Afghanistan has accused Pakistani spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of having direct links with the Haqqani terror network.

Afghanistan's National Security Advisor (NSA) Dadfar R. Spanta told Headlines Today on Wednesday that the Haqqani network was led, managed and trained by the ISI.

Spanta alleged that Pakistan was actively engaged in organising terror attacks in Afghanistan.

"In Pakistan there are a few terror centres active against Afghanistan. Haqqani network is just one. In fact, Haqqani network and ISI are one and... same. It is a group managed, trained and led by ISI," the NSA said.

"Despite the positives of Pakistan, there are sanctuaries and some terror activities and networks that Pakistan is using against Afghanistan," he said.

Talking about Afghanistan's relation with India, Spanta said, "Strategic partnership between India and Afghanistan is a holistic partnership. More intelligence sharing... counter terrorism experience will be shared. India will provide for Afghanistan military training and its police personnel... Our collaboration is for the peace of this region."
Afghans are stepping it up for sure.

People like Khalidi below, do not take to terrorism, because of the Pakistani state - they do it, because, that's what Pakistani society around them, teaches them and imparts to them, as culture...

Unfortunately, what the Schaffers do not realize is that without addressing Pakistani cultural leanings towards terrorism - there's no solution in Afghanistan, Kashmir or increasingly in London.
Two people were indicted in Philadelphia on charges they supported terrorists in the “Jihad Jane” terror plot.

Ali Charaf Damache, 46, an Algerian man who resided in Ireland, and Mohammad Hassan Khalid, 18, a Pakistani citizen residing in Maryland, with one count of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists.

....
According to the indictment, Damache and Khalid helped devise and coordinate a “jihad” organization of men and women from Europe and the U.S. The group was divided into teams for planning, research, action, recruitment and finance, prosecutors said in the statement. Some traveled to South Asia for explosives training and returned to Europe to “wage violent jihad,” prosecutors said. The group allegedly sought women who had passports and the ability to travel to and around Europe.
