Understanding the US - Again
Re: Understanding the US - Again
I think this forum has become a circus of TDS (trump derangement syndrome) afflicted people going of on rants and not adding any value.
Mods can we stop this incessant TDS stuff. maybe create a dedicated thread for such nonsense. At least 3 threads have become TDS blabbering - this thread, the Indian-US thread, the west asia iran war thread.
Nothing of value is being learnt except tirade after tirade mostly by US democratic voting members who lost badly in the previous US Presidential elections.

I understand where you're coming from, and I’m not using “bhakt” as a criticism of Hinduism or of devotion itself.
The original meaning of bhakt is of course spiritual and respected in Hindu traditions. But in current public and political conversation, the word has also evolved into a broader slang term for someone seen as following a person, ideology, or group uncritically — and that usage isn’t limited to one side. I’ve seen people called “bhakt” across the spectrum, including people labelled “woke,” political supporters, public figures’ followers, etc.
When I use it in that context, I mean “blind follower,” not “devotee” in the religious sense.
On the other hand, Hridayji - I also find it a little ironic when you commented on my 'scientific temper' , when I was just commenting on some pseudoscience ..
Hriday wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 19:16 ^^
Isn't it cute that Amber G, who supported the Woke culture groups is talking about scientific temperament?
For those who forgot; in Woke culture if a man applies lipstick and declared himself as woman then he is really a woman as per Wokeism.
[...It is actually worse than that. People use science to dupe the general public. ..Fauci is a fraud.... And then there is fraud in nobel prize ..]

Re: Understanding the US - Again
Mamdani had a good night Tuesday, politically speaking:
NEW YORK, N.Y.: The New York City Democratic Socialists are victorious in race after race after race tonight, including unseating two incumbent Democratic Congresspeople.
NYC DSA and NYC mayor Zohran Mamdani endorsed challengers to two of the city’s eleven Congressional representatives, and both won. in North Brooklyn’s 7th District, DSA endorsed-Claire Valdez defeated the chosen son of retiring Representative Nydia Velázquez, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, by over twenty points.
In the largest upset of the night, Darializa Avila Chevalier is currently leading Adriano Espaillat, Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and leader of the local Dominican machine in Upper Manhattan’s 13th Congressional District. Espaillat made peace with and was endorsed by his former rivals, the African-American political leadership of Upper Manhattan, as well as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Chevalier overcame both political machines to hold a narrow lead over Espaillat.
Mamdani endorsed a third candidate not endorsed by DSA, Brad Lander, who defeated incumbent Dan Goldman in Lower Manhattan’s 10th Congressional District, being declared the winner as soon as polls closed and winning twice the votes that Goldman won.
In addition to Congressional races, Mamdani endorsed five candidates for the New York State Assembly; all are leading as of 10:27 PM EST. NYC DSA had a separate slate of eight endorsed candidates in the 2026 New York primaries; six are leading, often by overwhelming numbers; one has been declared the victor, and one is trailing their opponent.

Quite rare among the TDS (devotion) afflicted.
CNN was right about the war, and I was wrong

CNN was right about the war, and I was wrong
https://thehill.com/national-security/5 ... surrender/
In March, CNN published a hard-to-believe exclusive, claiming that “Top Trump officials acknowledged to lawmakers during recent classified briefings that they did not plan for the possibility of Iran closing the [Strait of Hormuz] in response to strikes.”
In response, I suggested that there was “no need to consider the [story’s] sourcing or the outlet” because “this claim is completely unbelievable on its face.”
Boy, was I wrong.
The cable network later updated its reporting to explain that “Trump administration officials briefed lawmakers on long-standing military plans to address a major disruption to the Strait, according to one official, but that multiple sources familiar with the session said there was no indication there were any near-term solutions.” I criticized this framing as well, given that the clarification was way off from the first claim.
Again, I apologize. CNN’s sources were clearly correct. This iteration of the Trump presidency is exactly as inept as advertised.
Following the president’s signing last week of his “Memorandum of Understanding” with Iran — an agreement good for 60 days until Washington and Tehran strike a “final deal” — there’s nothing left except to concede that the U.S. was done in by a few mines. Iran actually forced a desperate White House to the negotiating table simply by flexing what muscles it has left over the Strait of Hormuz.
The largest, most powerful, and best-funded military in the history of the world, despite inflicting massive destruction and suffering minimal casualties, was somehow defeated by a shipping channel. Our British cousins must be having flashbacks to the Suez Canal.
The most astonishing thing about the White House’s capitulation in Iran, beyond the Islamic Republic’s victory in the face of a clear power disparity, is that the White House obviously jumped into the war with no real consideration or plan for the possibility that Iran might block the Strait of Hormuz. This despite U.S. military strategists warning for decades about this exact scenario.
This is an unbelievably bad deal. It could only have been devised by the type of man who would lose money as a casino owner.
And if you don’t think the deal stinks, just remember that when details about its text were first leaked, its architects — most notably Vice President J.D. Vance — claimed the information, which would eventually prove true, was merely “Iranian propaganda.” In other words, it’s a deal so great that its designers had to lie about it to sell it.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
Remember, this war of choice by Trump, and cheered on by his devotees, has cost Indian lives, and has cost the Indian economy dearly, including inflation, currency depreciation, higher fiscal deficits, trade route disruptions (not just shipping but airlines too).
Yet they continue to sing his praises on BRF of all places and complain that posters here are complaining about Trump.
Can they be half as honest as "CNN was right about the war, and I was wrong"?

The NYT says:
Mamdani Emerges as Kingmaker, Pushing His Slate to a Primary Sweep
Mayor Zohran Mamdani shook the Democratic establishment by helping drive three progressive candidates to victory.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his allies swept a series of congressional primaries in New York City on Tuesday in a remarkable show of strength for the insurgent left that sent shock waves through the Democratic Party.
Mr. Mamdani’s candidates toppled a pair of incumbents backed by the city’s political establishment, including major labor unions and the House Democratic leader. Another candidate backed by the mayor won an open House seat, and a handful of democratic socialist challengers he supported were winning down the ballot.
Insurgency Over Incumbency: 7 Takeaways From New York’s Primaries
All three congressional candidates who were backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani won in Tuesday’s primary, bolstering his political movement.
Mr. Mamdani’s endorsement also helped five candidates, including democratic socialists, win state legislative seats.
The result demonstrated the strength of the mayor’s support, his political acumen and voters’ hunger for insurgency over incumbency.
Along the way, Mr. Mamdani defeated candidates backed by Gov. Kathy Hochul and Representative Hakeem Jeffries in a relatively low turnout primary.
The mayor described the victories as proof that his political movement was not an anomaly. He also argued it offered a path forward in the face of the affordability challenges that he and his allies ran on fixing.

Re: Understanding the US - Again
Thanks for asking in a polite way — so I’ll answer in the same spirit.
That’s your opinion, and I understand the concern that not everyone will catch the intended meaning. My use of bhakt was not in the religious sense but in the now-common political/slang sense of “uncritical follower” — and that usage is actually widespread, including among many of the same people who are now objecting to it (Just look in this dhaga alone filled with vulgar 'adjectives' for me and others)
Also, as the Sanskrit saying goes: “परोपदेशे पाण्डित्यं सर्वेषां सुकरं नृणाम्” (paropadeśe pāṇḍityaṃ sarveṣāṃ sukaraṃ nṛṇām) — it is easy for people to appear wise while advising others. Holding oneself to the same standard is usually harder.
So it feels a little rich to see concern over one word from people who have, over time, used far harsher labels — including dismissive and at times racist remarks directed at me, other Indian scientists, and scientists in the US, often without basis. Standards of civility work best when applied consistently.
Let me leave it with for all those who make it normal to use 'dumbocrates', 'xxxxsh?ts' and 'ask what's your IQ' endlessly .. polluting dhagas' after dhagas ... with no shame.
- मुखे रामः बगले छुरी” (mukhe rāmaḥ bagale churī) — “Ram on the lips, dagger under the arm” → outward virtue, inward hostility.
- कहावत याद आ गई — सौ चूहे खा के बिल्ली हज को चली
After eating a hundred mice, the cat sets off for Hajj.
Someone behaves badly for a long time and then suddenly adopts a posture of piety or moral superiority.
Enough is enough!

You did an AI summary and you were called out. Don't pass off AI summaries as your original work. You know as well as or even better than anybody else (given the kind of scientific temper and high IQ you have) that that kind of plagiarism is universally frowned upon.

Found an interesting tidbit -
The 2025 Ranking: In 2025, the name "Donald" hit an all-time low in the U.S., dropping to rank 690. According to recent data reviews, fewer than 400 baby boys were given the name last year.
Historical Popularity: The name was indeed incredibly common in the past. 1 It actually peaked way back in 1934 (with over 30,000 babies receiving the name) and comfortably held a spot in the Top 100 all the way through 1991.
What I found interesting that in after it was ranked around 200 .. till 2016 it suddenly became at #489..
It was sort of decline... till 2025 where it *suddenly* fell to #690!!!

Mamdani claimed to have balanced the NYC budget and made a song and dance about it, which I posed about here. He did balance it, but then he kept adding new expenditures, which were not met by the revenues and savings of his "balanced" budget.
This is thus politics as usual, and not a break from the business-as-usual.

Just to piss of hardcore Dems in this forum and not that I endorse MAGA crap but nevertheless, Actor Clint Eastwood delivers a standing ovation speech exposing Obummer and Bidenwa (the one who cannot remember his own name) in a June 10, 2026 recording. Obummer doubled the US debt and Bidenwa thrust the US into Ukraine war killing hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands... and more. Much of the economic stress the world has been plunged into is a direct outcome of Ukraine war, Iran war is nothing in comparison.

Ground.news summary:
The Trump administration plans to sell Turkey dozens of General Electric jet engines worth more than $700 million, proceeding despite Congressional objections ahead of next month's NATO summit.
Turkey requires the F110-GE-129 engines for its indigenous KAAN combat jet, a project launched in 2016 to increase defense self-sufficiency as the nation seeks to replace its American-made F-16 fleet.
Representative Gregory Meeks of New York, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, raised objections during review, though the administration may bypass non-binding Congressional holds.
The sale represents a significant diplomatic gesture following past friction over Ankara's acquisition of Russian-made S-400 air defense systems, which previously led to Turkey's removal from the F-35 program.
Gonul Tol, director of the Washington-based Middle East Institute's Turkish program, called the sale "lowest-hanging fruit," noting the true test of relations remains Turkey's potential return to the F-35 program.

Big Win for Trump Administration as Federal Court Allows Speedy Deportation of Illegals
PGurus Jun 24, 2026
A major federal court ruling has handed the Trump Administration an important victory on immigration enforcement. The decision could significantly accelerate the deportation process for individuals residing illegally in the United States, potentially reshaping border enforcement and immigration policy. What exactly did the court decide, who will be affected, and what could be the political and legal implications going forward? Watch as we break down the ruling and its broader impact.

The misuse of the term Bhakt by employing it in a pejorative sense falls into the same category as calling the hakenkreuz as "swastika". The word Guru is already on that slope. We as Bharatiyas must be the first to callout this corruption, instead I see some are indulging and defending such usage. Sad. Please desist at least here on BRF.

“ Tuesday’s decision about green card holders, Blanche v. Lau: Writing for the court’s conservatives, Justice Clarence Thomas held that immigration officers don’t actually need to have clear and convincing evidence that a green card holder has committed a crime of “moral turpitude” to block them from reentering the country after a trip abroad. They just have to feel like they committed a crime.
“The Court ruled that a CBP official—not a criminal court judge or jury, and not even an immigration judge—can unilaterally make a finding that having been charged with a crime is tantamount to having committed that crime, prematurely stripping that individual of the full rights of legal permanent residency,” Sarah Paoletti, director of Penn Carey Law’s Transnational Legal Clinic explained.”

The pakis have fallen at trump's feet and begged the jung bahadur for facilitated talks with India
failed marshall and shariff have no face, let alone the requisite anatomical accoutrements necessary to make their own direct pitch to Modi ji himself

trump's very recent and effusive public praise for Modi ji means that the amriki and the paki proxy push for peace talks are jointly looking for the opportunity to plant the knife in Modi ji's back
In the meanwhile, the kandle kissing wokes, along with an assortment of FFNGO geezers from 2 1/2 front ganja gang, jihadi academia, and retired babooze, judges, diplomats et al have started to stir, meaning that the amriki paki team have broken out the choice single malts and blue label in copious quantities along with the succulent tandoori delicacies, the proverbial sharaab and kaabab, to get the ball rolling
Sadly, however, the trade talks have hit a bump with India seeking a "sunset" clause along with a preferentially lower tariff regime that the Indians want, one that is the best in the region, lower than cheen, pak, beedi, nepal and all others in this region
