Nearly 40pc IDPs have returned to North Waziristan, army chief told

RAWALPINDI: Nearly 40 per cent of the internally displaced persons have so far returned to their homes, Army Chief Genral Raheel Sharif was apprised during his visit to the North Waziristan Agency on Saturday.
The army chief was briefed about the progress of ongoing Operation Zarb-i-Azb and the return of IDPs, read a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations.

Giving details, the formation commander said that around 291,827 families were internally displaced due to the Zarb-e-Azb operation. So far, nearly 108,503 families have returned to their homes following the successful culmination of the military operation.

while on the other hand only 230 families had returned to North Waziristan.

The army chief interacted with the tribal elders and recently returned IDPs, and assured them that the army will stay in the area till the completion of resettlement process.
The tribal elders appreciated the efforts of military in carrying out successful operations, and affirmed that with the help of the army, terrorists will never be allowed to return in the area.

General Raheel Sharif also inaugurated a 110 bedded Tehsil headquarters hospital in Mir Ali, which has been equipped with state of the art equipment, the ISPR said. He appreciated the army engineers for their dedicated efforts in executing quality construction work.
To enhance education standards and help locals benefit from the emerging economic opportunities, Gen Raheel announced the construction of a cadet college near Mir Ali for children of Waziristan.

Appreciating intense hard work by intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies, the army chief said that terrorist networks and their linkages are being unearthed across the country and this nexus will be broken at all cost to bring enduring peace.

US has immense fascination for military regimes in Pakistan: Hina Rabbani Khar

ISLAMABAD: Former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar has accused the US of supporting military regimes in Pakistan that led to the disruption of democratic process in the country.

"The US government has had a long history of immense fascination with the military of Pakistan," the Dawn quoted Khar as saying in an interview to Al Jazeera.

The US, she said, was complicit in causing a constant disruption in Pakistan's democratic process by propping up one military dictatorship after another.

However, Khar refused to concede that the military "runs the show" in Pakistan, though she admitted that the "military has historically played a much a larger role than the Constitution should permit".

She said that the US government's preference of dealing with military regimes has resulted in the pre-eminence of military influence in Pakistan.

"When Ziaul Haq came in, when Musharraf came in, Pakistan got the best possible military and civil assistance ever possible (from the US)," she said.

Khar also lauded her time as foreign minister, saying that President Asif Ali Zardari-led government had done "humongous work" in that department.

"We didn't need to have a great relationship with London, or with Washington DC, but we needed a great relationship with Kabul and Delhi," she said.

After 35 years, she noted, how no other military or civilian government had showed the will to normalise trade with India.

Khar especially commended the Zardari-led government's ability to shift Pakistan's policy on India.

Previously, Pakistan and India were unwilling to discuss trade until the issue of Kashmir was resolved first -- a condition that no longer applies to bilateral trade discussions between the two.

Khar dismissed accusations that Pakistan sponsored "good Taliban" at home and that proxies working for the government were attacking Afghan troops and civilians across the border.

"As far as sponsoring or funding them was concerned," she said "I would like to believe that under our watch that was not the policy direction at all."

Former Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, who was also part of the government during Khar's term, recently claimed that the government was aware of Osama bin Laden's where Pakistan "was guilty of being incompetent" when it came to tracking the slain al-Qaeda chief.

But Khar, who was also a government minister at the time, claimed that the Pakistani government was not protecting Osama. However, she admitted that Pakistan "was guilty of being incompetent" when it came to tracking the slain al-Qaeda chief.

We don't have Visa on Arrival. What we have is an e-VISA facility - which is wrongly being termed as Visa On Arrival. Which means the traveller has to apply for a VISA online and gets an email confirmation. The traveller has to carry this document, as a print out, and this is scanned by the Immigration Officer at the airport they arrive in - then the VISA with the validity date is stamped on the passport of the traveller.

VISA on Arrival means landing in the host country with nothing more than a passport (in some instances proof of return ticket and a hotel booking perhaps) and getting your VISA stamped by the immigration officer.

Eg: Look at what happened to Orlando Bloom just recently. Was deported back to the UK the same night from New Delhi.

There are a lot of special provisions. The turn around time is a min 72 hours..and the email is sent to the registered email of the traveller. However, for 'doubtful' cases, it can take longer..or is rejected out-right.

They believe that the soaring geopolitical temperatures in South Asia cannot lead towards stability in the region, mainly in Afghanistan. Therefore, they think Pakistan can focus on its internal security and economic stability without compromising on its position on disputes with India.The security of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Chinese nationals working in Pakistan is another area of review. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif recently assured Prime Minister Li Keqiang at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit that Pakistan will not compromise on the security of Chinese nationals inside Pakistan. Apparently, a review of the basics of bilateral engagements of the two countries does not seem a hard task, but when one tries to put it in a functional framework certain divergences appear. The major irritant is the conceptual approaches applied by the two countries to resolve certain issues. For instance, from a regional perspective, the Chinese framework of engagement is structured around geo-economics where it wants to evolve economic cooperation without compromising on its position on regional disputes. However, Pakistan’s approach is to ‘resolve’ disputes before evolving cooperation in non-disputed areas. Pakistan may have legitimate and moral reasons, but this view is hindering it from becoming fully engaged in the emerging regional geo-economics.Both sides also realise that terrorism is a major challenge to internal and regional security and stability, but here, too, they do not have largely convergent threat perceptions. China is concerned about newly emerging terrorist groups, mainly IS, but Pakistan is in a state of denial about the presence of IS on its soil. For China, the reconciliation process in Afghanistan is important to provide a conducive environment for regional cooperation in economic and trade projects, but Pakistan prioritises its strategic interest in Afghanistan and wants a friendly regime on its western border.These are a few examples of the divergent views held by China and Pakistan. This is not unusual, and countries do have the right to construct and follow their own frameworks of engagement. Certainly, it is different historical and cultural perspectives which have made the Chinese regional view geo-economic and Pakistan’s geo-strategic in orientation.

Hina Rabbani says Pakistan’s defence minister is most ineffective
Former foreign minister, Hina Rabbani Khar has said that Pakistan’s defence minister is the most ineffective member of cabinet who knows nothing about the matters pertaining to defence.

In an interview to a foreign TV channel Hina Rabbani did not sound very formal and she said that Pakistan’s defence minister is the most idle person.

On the subject of the US Navy Seals operation that killed al-Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden, Hina Rabbani Khar said the then defence minister had no prior knowledge of this operation.

She said Chaudhry Mukhtar, who was the defence minister at the time, was not even present in the room in which the operation was discussed.

Khar said the news of US Navy Seals’ operation had stunned Pakistani officials.

Pakistan, India trying to cut deal on thorny issues

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India are targeting next year’s summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) for ‘major announcements’ to improve their relations that witnessed a thaw in recent weeks after months of brinkmanship.

The foreign secretaries of the two countries are set to meet next month in order to chalk out a roadmap for a series of meetings between officials of the two countries on a range of issues — from terrorism to Jammu and Kashmir.

An Indian diplomat told The Express Tribune that efforts were being made to have an agreement on some of the issues before the two prime ministers meet on the sidelines of the Saarc summit.

Under the comprehensive dialogue, there are at least 10 subjects, including Kashmir, terrorism, trade and commerce, CBMs, Siachen, Sir Creek, people-to-people contacts, humanitarian issues and religious tourism. No Bi-lateral Issues - Only Multi-lateral Issues

“Ideally, we would like to have discussions on all these subjects before the Saarc summit and see where we can find common ground,” said a Pakistani official. “If this happens, it would certainly lay the groundwork for the meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.”Me thinks the Indian Government will concentrate on CWAPISTANI PERPETRATED TERRORISM ONLY!

ISLAMABAD: The adviser to prime minister on foreign affairs, Sartaj Aziz, told Senate that the exclusion of some Islamic countries from the Saudi-led 34-nation anti-terror alliance will be discussed at international level.
Answering a question posed by Senate chairman on exclusion of Syria, Iraq and Iran from the Saudi-led alliance, Aziz said on Monday the issue would be discussed in upcoming meetings in the next couple of weeks and also in the upcoming Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) summit.

Having already confirmed with Pakistan International Airline (PIA) my return flight to Karachi a few days earlier, I was feeling relaxed on the penultimate day of my lovely vacation in Nepal, but when I called the Pakistani national airline’s office in Kathmandu to re-confirm my flight, I received a surprise. According to the PIA representative, my flight had been cancelled days ago, and I was to wait another four days to fly to Karachi.

Upon entering the PIA office in Kathmandu I was met with the distinct flavour of home... the PIA office were both rude and self-righteous, as if the airliner that employed them was their private enterprise, and as if they were doing their customers a favour by serving them.

When I asked why I hadn’t been informed about the change in schedule, I was told my cell-phone hadn’t been responding.

A year or so ago, on a flight from Karachi to Lahore, our plane had been delayed for nearly two hours on the runway.

This was a lie.

Unfortunately, the incidents I experienced are far from isolated instances of the incompetence and corruption of PIA. Here’s a timeline of some of PIA’s worst offenses:

February of 2012: PIA reportedly carried two passengers on toilet seats because it had sold more tickets than it had space.

Just wondering if the two passengers were "served" meals in their private cabin

April 2013: In an extraordinary display of stupidity and pig-headedness, PIA began a character assassination campaign against a customer named Sara Zafar Malik, who along with her two children and husband, could have been left seriously ill had she consumed a fungus-ridden bun served to her by PIA.

But Bakistan has the "best doctors in the whole world"; therefore not to worry !

November 2013: A drunken PIA pilot was arrested in the UK after ‘staggering’ around with enough alcohol in his body to intoxicate an elephant. Fifty five-year-old Captain Irfan Faiz was at four times the drink-fly limit.

The said pilot would be better off putting his application for a new job with the newly minted, Sharia Compliant (Halal !) Airlines run by the brotherly Ummah nation of Malaysia

December 2013: A PIA pilot delayed a flight from Pakistan to New York by nearly two hours, merely over a sandwich. Imagine the audacity of this employee, to put his needs so far ahead of paying customers, many of whom missed connecting flights.

Once the sandwiches arrived the pilot was allegedly happy and the flight resumed … over two hours late.”

Probably, the pilot had important relatives working up high in the Paki food chain, therefore no one could possibly "touch" him

September 2014: A PIA flight scheduled to fly from Karachi to Islamabad was delayed by two and a half hours because the crew decided to keep hundreds of paying customers waiting for one politician. Later, when Rehman Malik (AKA 007) finally showed up, he was disgraced by passengers in dramatic footage captured on a cell phone video that went viral.

June 2015: PIA fired five cabin crew members for money laundering after they had been detained in the UK.

September 2015: A PIA employee was arrested in the UK while attempting to smuggle cell phones out of the country.

November 2015: A PIA employee was arrested in Karachi, trying to smuggle in cell phones and liquor.

November 2015: 3KG of heroin were recovered from a PIA flight to Dubai; a small fortune .
But I thought that this "business activity" was the exclusive monopoly of the Deep State, dating back from the days of the Afghan Jihad

December 2015: An inquiry was launched by PIA after a pilot had broken rules by entertaining journalist Reham Khan’s request to sit in the cockpit.

Maybe, there was a quid pro quo

December 21, 2015: PIA was fined by Dubai immigration authorities for allowing a female passenger to fly on her son’s passport in an extraordinary security lapse. In an age where terrorists use air travel to spread their agenda, this was inexcusable.

This is the latest; missing from the above list- rumours that Ganja Sharif requisitioning A WHOLE PIA PLANE, last summer as his own personal taxi to ferry his friends and relatives from North America to the Land Of The Two Holy Mosques to enjoy the wedding of his family member into the Saudi Royal House !

Unfortunately, no company will buy a fat cow like PIA for the horse race of air travel business, unless it is allowed to trim the fat.

With fuel prices having fallen dramatically, and expected to remain low for the next few years, the time is ripe for PIA to follow the wonderful success story of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC)’s privatisation. Of course, this can only happen if the government develops resolve in the face of blackmailing PIA employees. When Sushma Swaraj and Sartaj Aziz made that breathtaking announcement of ‘restarting the dialogue’ and of ‘war not being an option’, and then naming it the ‘Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue’, there should have been some dreamers in this land of poets and perpetual thinkers who should have begun interpreting it as a possible Musk moment for South Asia. After all what are the IIT in Delhi and the Bangalore Silicon Valley thinking if not this. Rather than be the sweatshop for the US and the back-office to most of the corporate world, entrepreneurs in these two nations should be taking a leaf out of the Elon Musk book to come up with solutions for the poverty-ridden masses of South Asia.

since their jeb is khaali (wallet is empty), their arrogance means little and becomes important only when others start pointing it out. It is only when their rants are dignified with 'Indian criticism' it acquires some acceptability, else it is just random garbage from some prick. If they know that something touched a raw nerve or just some random nerve, they will pursue it ad infinitum. There is an ISI monitoring cell that identifies the touchy issues and asks their minions on media to stretch that out.

The al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), founded by al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri, is being backed by the Pakistan establishment to carry out attacks in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was informed at the Directors-General of Police meeting in the Rann of Kutch, which concluded on Sunday.

At a standalone presentation under the category ‘threats from Pakistan-backed outfits,’ the recently busted module of the AQIS was discussed threadbare.

A senior government official who attended the meeting said the AQIS, created by al-Qaeda in August 2014 and led by Indian-Maulana Asim Umar who was later identified as Uttar Pradesh resident Sanaul Haq, would be used as a mask for the next attack by Pakistan.

At a presentation for Mr. Modi, the intelligence agencies mentioned the September 2014 attack on the Mehran naval base in Karachi, for which the AQIS had claimed responsibility.

Hijack plan

According to reports available with the Indian agencies, AQIS terrorists, three of whom were gunned down during the attack, had planned to hijack the naval ship of Pakistan and move it to the Indian coast to carry out attacks here.

“This was the information picked up by the agencies after the Karachi terror attack, but it all seems too boastful to us. We have credible information to show the AQIS is being backed by Pakistan authorities to launch attacks in India,” the official said.

The Indian agencies’ claim of the AQIS being linked to Pakistan assumes significance as the terrorist group was formed with the objective of targeting the governments of Pakistan, India and Bangladesh to demonstrate its clout in the face of rising competition from the Islamic State.
