all depends on speed of movement, manpower, fuel and artillery support - deep battle can severely dislocate enemy planning and result in large areas vacated by oppn without much of a fight....on the other hand platoon level clashes and getting bogged down in every village will see the war till 2025. they have to move forward strongly and sit astride some key points and block the enemy logistical network. challenge them to sit there with no ammo and food and die slowly or move out in time and save themselves

there is still a huge green area in Idlib and aleppo - most of these western rebels are either syrians, turkomans or chechens. the first two could see themselves having a future in turkey with relatives or friend or sneak into EU if they deftly withdraw in time. the chechens can always go back to chechnya though ruthless pro-rus militias(ramzan kadyrov types) are spying like hawks on every village there, so they might choose to fight till the end ... but numbers are not much.

the ISIS has more of the trans-national jihadis from the gulf emirates, europe, uzbeks ... these benched jihadis have not seen much action relatively are now working to prove themselves in deir ezzor...perhaps a field training by IS for the bigger battles to come in defending the caliphate in manbij and raqqa and haditha.

Actually, Al Nusra types are also of varied nationality. Paki, Afghan, Uzbek and a lot of Arab salafis. The core leadership though is either Syrian, Saudi or Turkish.

in 48 hrs situation should be more clear - they have hit the lines for sure . question is whether they have been able to shatter a few gaps and have the exploitation columns to pour through , bypass strong points and get deep into the rear....or whether they all get bogged down into positional warfare.

Nine US citizens have been arrested on terror charges in Saudi Arabia, local media report. The Americans were among a total of 33 terror suspects detained over the past week.

syria has revoked a 1998 agreement with turkey that bans syrian a/c from 15km inside syrian side itself of the turki border. also several Mig29 upgraded of SyAF have been empowered to patrol this zone to cover the russian bombers moving about , and fire at anything that intrudes into syrian airspace.

I would expect more Su30 and Su35 to be flying in via Iran to beef things up because turkey for sure will try to interfere in idlib and aleppo to protect its munnas, while russia will go after them with no quarter given.

looking at the size and complexity of the new cage armour and its appearance after the russis came onsite, definitely some thought and testing has gone into this with OEM support. perhaps these kits are being welded in russia itself and being delivered by ship to the coastal tank depots for retrofit. they would have tested it against known threats and found it helps the survivability....the turret volume has gone up twice now.

denying cheap kills to the enemy has a certain value both in material and morale terms. the crews are likely to fight harder and better if they feel better protected.

The offensive in Northern Aleppo has helped SAA capture Duwayr Al-Zeitoun and Tal Jibin. It appears that SAA are moving to join up with the besieged pocket of Zahraa and Nubl town further west. If they can join up with this area then the rebels south of these positions will have lost all direct routes to Turkey in the Aleppo province.

Adding to what the SAA may be trying, the YPG maybe part of this game all along. YPG may just seal the Aleppo border with Turkey

Even rebel sources have confirmed loss of Zeitoun. Tal Jabbin is further north and after initial conflicting reports on Tal Jabbin, even that is confirmed to be under SAA control.

Su 35 maybe for posturing and some foresight. Expected high temperatures on the Turkey - Syria border. At the same time what better way to validate weapons and platforms for Russia than a conflict.

Meanwhile in Iraq, the Iraqi Army is moving east from Ramadi to Fallujah. ISIS has a strong hold on Fallujah.

We would also use some of our new toys on Kashmir and POK on this Jihadis but alas some one needs balls of steel to take that call , I remember days in kashmir when using choppers to hunt jihadis in the valley and dense jungle of Kashmir was considered escalatory by GOI as that would offend pakistan.

I wonder how many Soldiers and Civilian life would have been saved had we used even something as basic as Armed Chopper to hunt Jihadis in Kashmir Valley perhaps even an armed Kiran
