Internal Security Watch
Re: Internal Security Watch
I fear it could be more of a bigger ploy to get the attention away from the Ganesh Visarjans in Mumbai. Always known for being the prime target, I am afraid that the Delhi attacks could be classified as misdirection. Adding any more security than what is already present in Delhi, could lead it to cannibalize security from some other metro. As the attention moves to New Delhi, Mumbai could find itself in a situation once again.
Mumbai has been on high alert in any case due to a report on few infiltrators being at large. The bigger Ganesh idols are yet to be immersed.

Re: Internal Security Watch
I guess now the GOI and the party alliance behind it will be forced to go into a vicious cycle. They will have to deny any role of Indian Muslim groups or organizations or even deny any Islamic role at all in any of the future terror attacks. Instead they will blame it on the "saffron" and use the state machinery to target the "saffron". As Islamic attacks and strength increases, the GOI will panic more and more and desperately be busy more in preventing any "saffron" challenge to replace them politically and rely more and more politically on the IM and related left or other groupings.
However his also creates a problem in frustrating the Islamists for they do not get credit for what they are doing. To a certain extent the more seasoned among them will rejoice in the effect it has in fostering internecine conflict within the "hated quafir" but the this cannot go on for long. So they will after some time begin to claim more and more direct responsibility and trying to establish the linkage to their faith.
This creates even greater pressures on GOI to find the "saffron" guilty, and the cycle goes on till Islamists are able to achieve at least their partial territorial ambitions and after that the rump GOI an the parties behind it will blame the entire episode on the saffron - that saffron "provoked" the IM.

Re: Internal Security Watch
I wouldn't underestimate their capability, IM is L-e-T/ISI affliated organization if it is at all different from them in the first place.sum wrote:Our people are bleeding and you will too: IM
The IM group name seems to be deliberately being downplayed by both Delhi Police ( calling it local gangs etc) and MSM, most probably on instructions of GoI...The Indian Mujahideen [ Images ] has claimed responsibility for the Jama Masjid shootout incident on Sunday, and issued a threat to the government not to hold the 2010 Commonwealth Games [ Images ] in Delhi [ Images ].
The mail, which was sent to a new channel by the IM, claims responsibility for the attack and says that this is in memory of the persons who lost their lives in the infamous Batla House encounter.
The mail sent from the id al.arbi999123 @ gmail.com says don't show courage in organising the CWG.
'We know the preparations are on in full swing. Be prepared, we are preparing a shocking event and those participating in the games will hold themselves responsible for the consequences.'
The mail also goes on term Atif Amin and Mohammed Sajid as martyrs.
'The death of these two boys in the Batla house encounter will be avenged.'
The mail also refers to the Mumbai [ Images ] Anti-Terrorist Squad, which has been carrying out arrests of it cadres.
'Innocent Muslim youth are being arrested and this is not right.'
It also speaks about the use of excessive force in Kashmir [ Images ] and states that 'our people are bleeding and you will too'.
The mail calls on all Muslims to revolt and protest the happenings in Kashmir.
Indian intelligence agencies say that it appears that a local module of the IM could have sent out this mail.
At first it appeared as though a relatively new group had carried out this attack.
Eyewitness accounts speak of automatic weapons being used and this indicates that the men who opened fire were trained thoroughly.
An IM angle cannot not be ruled considering the area in which it took place, the IB says.
They have at least four of their modules in the area and are quite capable of carrying out an attack of this nature. However, this attack appears more of a revenge tactic for the Batla House encounter and also a fear creating mechanism ahead of the games.
The IM has been lying low after a spate of arrests and were making a desperate attempt to bounce back and hence were desperate to carry out an attack.
Looking at the attack on Sunday, it is clear that they wanted to target foreign nationals since this would create much more impact.
During the previous security meetings in the run up to the CWG, IB reports had specifically spoken of similar kinds of attacks. It was said that dedicated enclosed routes have to be provided for the transportation of the players since terror groups will be looking to create a hostage crisis and also opening fire on the buses that they would be travelling in.
The Delhi Police are, however, mum on any terror angle and say that they are focusing on nabbing the two men who opened fire.
However, the small impact and modus operandi of this attack seems to suggest that the IM capability has been severely curtailed compared t their peak of 2007-08 when they were toying with GoI..
Re: Internal Security Watch
Bji, I thoroughly follow and enjoy your posts, just like the other posts from other gyaani log here. I am always intrigued by oblique references to territorial losses for Indian state. India has weathered much more ferocious, well organized, movements with foreign sponsors. Why do you think or rather what has changed in Bharat? We were much more fragmented, impoverished, dependent than we are now. I do not have the hind-sight of GOI actions in Naxal movements in 70s, or Khalistan movement or JK flare up. Was the GOI reaction in those times more robust, dedicated, purposeful, humane than it is now? Is our country's cohesiveness so much compromised at the top that a country without nuclear weaponry had the wherewithal to manage those situation but a country which provides better living conditions to more of its people than 3 decades back cannot?brihaspati wrote:This creates even greater pressures on GOI to find the "saffron" guilty, and the cycle goes on till Islamists are able to achieve at least their partial territorial ambitions and after that the rump GOI an the parties behind it will blame the entire episode on the saffron - that saffron "provoked" the IM.
These are not rhetorical questions, I am sincere when asking them. If this thread is not appropriate please reply in the appropriate forum. Thanks a lot for your time in advance. At the risk of repeating, these are my honest questions and no other insinuation or anything like that.

Prahaar ji,
not suitable for open forum. But briefly - if you consider - those admins at those times had much greater legitimacy with power concentrated in the hand sof the "individual" at the top. It is no longer so clear cut a concentration of power and the political admin often is getting bogged down in fights. The regime is losing control over the politics and hesitates to take firm steps. This was never an issue with the "dictators".

CWG - Realize the importance of this opportunity. The UPA govt sacrifices numerous rights of indian citizens to prevent the muslims from getting a reason to explode bombs. Events like CWG actually ties the hands of the congress govt from curbing your rights.
The indian mujahideen has repeated far too many times to the media networks that the attackers are in fact *indian muslims*. They have even mocked the indian media when it was claimed that pakistan had an hand.
The congress tries very hard to exempt *islam* from any explosions and when an islamic hand does surface, it blames that on the pakistani's. Yesterday's explosion carried an email from the claimant group - the indian mujahideen.
An attack at CWG might make things interesting.

IM e-mail speaks of ‘insult’ to woman in hijab
Interesting that this specific instance finding mention in the IM e-mail is being suppressed by MSMMumbai: A Burqa-clad woman allegedly denied entry into Central Mumbai’s premier civic healthcare institution, the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Parel, found mention in the Indian Mujahideen’s email in which the group claimed responsibility for the attack on two foreign tourists in Delhi.
The incident was reported by an afternoon tabloid in Mumbai, the report accompanied by a photograph of 47-year-old Tanveer Fatima, who was allegedly denied entry after she refused to take off her hijab.
On the night of September 14, according to the report, Fatima was denied entry along with her relatives after she refused to lift her veil while passing through the security check. She had reportedly come to the hospital along with an ailing uncle who was referred to KEM hospital from Lilavati Hospital in Bandra where he was being treated earlier. The report does not mention whether her uncle was admitted.
“We have to check each and every person who enters the hospital,” said Dr Sanjay Oak, dean of KEM Hospital. “There have been cases of infants being stolen from government hospitals in the past and so we are very cautious ever since.”
According to the report, while Fatima’s relatives entered the building, she chose to remain outside as she did not want to reveal her hair.![]()
“Others who had accompanied her went in without any trouble. But when Fatima refused to show her face while passing the security check, we had to stop her at the enterance,” said Dr P B Bhosale, Deputy Dean of KEM Hospital.
The email sent by IM reads: “The incident of our sister wearing hijab who was insulted and humiliated at the KEM hospital in Bombay on orders of Bombay Police will not be forgotten....”

Rickshaw-puller gave chase, threw stone at attackers
Bukhari calls it a terrorist attackNew Delhi: Salim, a 26-year-old rickshaw-puller, didn’t cower in fear when he saw the two assailants open fire. He picked up a stone and hurled them at the attackers, turning into an unlikely hero.
He was dropping a passenger at Gate No. 3 when he noticed the two gunmen opening fire on the tourist bus. Seeing Salim charging towards them, the two men panicked and dropped a magazine at the spot. He was also the one who alerted the cops nearby after which the police started chasing them.
‘It is a terrorist attack aimed at creating panic, preventing foreign visitors from coming to the city and making the Games a failure. This has been done to spread panic in India so that people from outside do not come to Delhi,’’ Bukhari said at LNJP Hospital where he had gone to see the victims.

The rikshawwalla ( Salim) is an individual just as the men who attacked the tourist bus were indiaviduals. Just as the actions of a few loonies cannot be used to prove the guilt of the entire community the same way the actions of the a few law abiding citizens cannot be used to show the loyalties of the entire community.
Having said so, as an Indian I hope and pray that Salim and his fellow citizens continue to grow and prosper in our nation without having to fear anything. The attackers and there fellow travelers get the long arm of law with extreme prejudice.
Just my two bits

Re: Internal Security Watch
The most shameful thing for the entire Indian Muslim community is that some political parties use them as an excuse to mollycolldle the worst of Wahhabi, Salafi extremist ideologies.
In India they will protect the Kazi Nazurl Hussain (of Debganga fame) but not a Talisma Nasreen.
Talisma was not a muslim? Then we rant about how muslims are getting "alienated" - well what do you expect? You leave them with no choice but to side with hardliners, you remove free thinkers, you promote the worst variety so they can get votes for you.
Who created Mahadani? The Muslims in Kerala? Or the appeasers in CPM?

The question is why are the IM in general ready to be appeased. This violent behavior is found not only in India but in Porkistan, bangladesh, middle east, even pocket's of western countries where the concentration of ROP ideology is larger.

Sanku,
The question is why the moderates of the community are / were silent when Taslima was being attacked. Why are they not speaking up when the retrogressive forces of Islam are dominating the narrative.
What you are suggesting is just an abdication of responsibility by the population what ever be the reasons for that.
Don't know who said this, For evil to spread, it only requires that the good people do nothing. Its high time the good people take a stand and tell the regressive forces in loud and united voice STFU

Let me talk about India alone here...
For 60 years we have created a condition where our strength supports the worst tendencies and those who think differently are silenced. This coupled with the essential nature of the history and various theologies create a condition where IMs have no option but to be either silent or actively toe a particular PoV.
If we could support the likes of Salman Rushdie and Talisma Nasreen, we will see the movement pick strength.
OTOH we actively move towards silencing the free voices with all the power at our command -- the "secular" GoIs force is with the hardliners, how do you expect the people actually "trapped" within that matrix itself to come out on their own?
Anyway please dont reply to what I have said, think about what I have said instead and feel free to obtain extrapolations...

Exactly, this is all that every minority community in India asks - Equality, and AFAIK The Republic of India provides the same mechanism for everybody in terms of education , job oppurtunities, law and order, justice , healthcare etc etc.
Treat the radicals for what they are i.e. Criminals who cause harm to life and property. For decades now Political parties have encouraged minority extremists by mistaking them as the voice of majority of the community, this is one of the main reasons we have an element of religious extremism today.
I concur that the police and ATS need to do a certain ammount of community profiling to narrow down the criminals but the day this filters down to the rest of us, that day we should be ashamed.
Also , what is obvious is why the miscreants choose to shoot the tourists in front of Jama Masjid. Their purpose is accomplished if it creates any sort of divide in communities and politicians play politics on top of that.

Indeed, but I seem to have forgotten now who was that Bigot politician who went about stoking passions by saying that Batla encounter was fake and MC Sharma staged the shootout. Someone please remind me.Instead, we have ROPers jumping all over the place calling the Batla house encounter 'fake/staged' etc. Defending the worst instincts in fellow ROPers and what not. This is exactly what the media project. And end of the day, what do they expect? Packee style negotiation tactics of using or threatening violence won't work always. At some point, those with decency should show the same.
Also , I never understood what is this non-sense about Religion of peace. AFAIK, there is no particular religion of peace in the world. Yes, I can vouch for the fact that Verses of Koran do not encourage killing on non-muslims but the same is the case with any other religious book.

Users are urged not to digress from the thread. While it is fine to criticize the governement, making your criticism political only takes away from it. Thirdly, do not generalize your opinions to all Indian Muslims and Islam. It is not permitted on these forums and action will be taken against the offenders. Nikhil and Manishw, this is in particular for your posts. Hari Seldon, please use the proper term, Muslims and not ROPers. You'll be amazed that how many things you will find yourself uncomfortable posting here when you do that. It seems that "ROP" and "ROPers" has become a good excuse to take the sting out of some statements and make them sound less hateful than they are.

Re: Internal Security Watch
Sanku ji, you cannot view the last 60 years (since 1947) in exclusivity. What happened before 1947 has a direct bearing on what happened after 1947. We can look at the Muslim behavior before 1947 and compare that with that of today's IMs and gauge how much difference exists between the two. How much integration has happened? Has the ghettoization stopped? How have they reacted to policy/court decisions that have do not conform to Sharia? They reacted with violent anger at the time of Shah Bano, if tomorrow India gives asylum to Taslima Nasreen, there is no doubt they will again take to the streets. So what exactly do they want? They want to be appeased or they dont want to be appeased? If they wanted to be appeased, then they have had their way for 60 years & more, but they have still not given anything in return i.e not integrated with the society, have kept to themselves & enjoyed the appeasement. If they did not want to be appeased then when the Government takes a decision that's not appeasing them, why do they turn violent, abuse the rights extended to them, abuse the state, the majority community, the police & play the victim?Sanku wrote:Let me talk about India alone here...

CGji, I am certainly not looking at the last 60 years, in fact I have all the previous 1000 years in mind when I say what I say. Neither do I disagree with your observations, they are all there valid and correct, those things have indeed happened, and I am aware of it but still say what I said.Chandragupta wrote: Sanku ji, you cannot view the last 60 years (since 1947) in exclusivity.

//i know im off topic but this one will not go far
It is not meaningful for me to engage in *clarifications* whenever IM is mentioned. Im aware that there are bad seeds in all communities.
The islamic community explicitly engages in hostility towards non-muslims. But not *all* muslims fall for it. Salim is an example of it. It is not right to kill a human. Somehow every child born already knows that. Not all get indoctrinated. But the possibilities of a child getting indoctrinated are high(comparatively) in islam. And that possibility is real enough to be considered to separate the bad from the good.
We need to accept the fact that there are some bad seeds in the IM community. The GoI needs to come clean on it. IM's are still largely untouched by the global muslim jihadi propaganda. In a way, IM's have assimilated themselves with dharma to some degree.

E-mail threatening CWG traced to Mumbai
Meanwhile, B Raman dissects the IM e-mail:
IM mail hints at act of suicide terrorism
Maharashtra seems to have become a real hotbed of the Islamist kind ( similar to Kerala)
The email purportedly sent by outlawed Indian Mujahideen [ Images ] owning up the attacks outside Jama Masjid and threatening more strikes ahead of Commonwealth Games has been traced to Mumbai [ Images ], police said on Monday.
"The email was sent from Mumbai. The server has been tracked to Mumbai," a senior police official said. The Indian Mujahideen has in an email sent to various media houses threatened to unleash violence during the Commonwealth Games [ Images ] soon after yesterday's firing incident at the Jama Masjid in which two Taiwanese nationals were injured.
An e-mail sent to BBC does not directly refer to the incident of firing but says, "in the name of Allah, the attack is a tribute to Atif Amin and Mohammed Sajid." Both of them were killed by the police in the Batla House encounter on September 19, 2008.
Meanwhile, B Raman dissects the IM e-mail:
IM mail hints at act of suicide terrorism
The statement purporting to be from the Indian Mujahideen disseminated by email on September 19, is shown as having been signed by one Al Arbi. It refers to certain anti-Muslim incidents which allegedly took place in Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh [ Images ] on the day of Eid (September 11). It also refers to the day when the total number of people allegedly killed by the security forces in Jammu & Kashmir [ Images ] crossed 100 (September 17). This would indicate that this message must have been drafted between September 17 and 19.
The statement is in good English with very few grammar or typing mistakes. It has been drafted by one well-versed in the Holy Koran. Many of the religious allusions have been taken from some past messages of Osama bin Laden [ Images ], but Osama has not been mentioned anywhere by name.
The last para of the message has been borrowed almost word for word from a message against General Pervez Musharraf [ Images ] and the Pakistani Army issued by Osama in September 2007 calling for the wrath of Allah on them for the raid into the Lal Masjid of Islamabad [ Images ] in July, 2007.
It reads: 'O, Allah, deface them, break their backs and heads, split them up and destroy their unity; O, Allah, afflict them with the loss of their near and dear ones as they have afflicted us with the loss of our near and dear ones; O, Allah, we seek refuge in You from their evilness and we place You at their throats; O, Allah, make their plotting their destruction; O, Allah, suffice for us against them with whatever You wish; O, Allah, destroy them for they cannot escape You; O, Allah, count them, kill them and leave not even one of them. "
There are only two minor changes. Osama Laden had not said "deface them". He had also not said "and heads". One does not know wherefrom Osama had originally taken his curse against Musharraf and the Pakistani Army. Osama curse against them has been converted by the IM into a curse against the Indian people and officials. I had referred to Osama's message of September 2007 in my book Terrorism [ Images ]: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow.
The statement does not directly claim responsibility on behalf of the IM for the attack in Delhi on September 19 in which two Taiwanese tourists were injured. However, it indirectly hints at its responsibility by saying: "In the name of Allah we dedicate this attack of retribution "
In its reference to the forthcoming Commonwealth Games [ Images ], it says: "On the one hand Muslim blood is flowing like water, while on the other hand you are preparing for the festival of games. This is surely not a child's play. Mind you this is the initiative from the Lions of Allah and we warn you to host the Commonwealth Games if you have a grain of salt. We know that the preparations for the Games are at its peak. Beware we too are preparing in full swing for a great surprise. The participants will be solely responsible for the outcome as our bands of Mujahideens love death more than you love life."
It has highlighted in red ink the following words: "Our bands of Mujahideen love death more than you love life." This could be a hint or threat that it is planning to commit an act of suicide or suicidal terrorism. The IM has not so far indulged in either.

Pak spy held in Delhi; confidential documents of army seized
http://indiatoday.intoday.in/site/Story ... eized.html
A suspected Pakistani spy, who was in Delhi for the last one year doing recce of army installations, was arrested by the police on Tuesday, claiming that they have recovered confidential documents related to Indian Army from his possession.

Two detained in Mumbai for Delhi shooting.

I think the police should have the fake ids and phone card issuers on their list of informants. This way they can keep track of whats going on. Its more important to observe TSP spies.

Re: Internal Security Watch
^ Not that it is a bad thing or a conspiracy.
But the two cab companies I used, couldn't find a single driver who can speak Telugu in Hyderabad. On the other hand most of the call-center people are Telugus.
Probably due to educational and occupational preference.
Then I moved to the third company which has only large cars. Surprizingly all the drivers there are Telugu speaking community.
