Therefore, the ratio of the hard currency-denominated liabilities of the central government, central bank, and non-financial real sector to GDP figures may be underestimated. They have been given a 'final grace period' of two months, so that the pasengers with already booked tickets don't get inconvenienced.

IMHO the GOI should issue an official advisory for Indian citizens not to travel to Turkey or Azerbaizan citing the hostility of their Governments towards India.

Ankara/New Delhi: India is asserting itself decisively in the Eastern Mediterranean and South Caucasus, signalling a strategic counter to Turkey’s regional influence. The moves follow Operation Sindoor, when Ankara dispatched a warship to Karachi in support of Pakistan. Since then, Indian naval vessels have maintained a near-constant presence in waters close to Turkey, demonstrating an unprecedented maritime strategy.
India’s naval presence goes beyond patrolling. New Delhi is also forging alliances against Ankara. The Indian Navy has strengthened ties with Turkey’s neighbours (Greece, Cyprus, and Armenia) all of which have long-standing disputes with Ankara. Coordinated drills and joint exercises convey a clear strategic message: Turkey’s influence is being countered with precision planning.
Turkey’s Past Moves
Turkey has historically supported Pakistan militarily, including during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Turkish troops have trained Pakistani forces, and Bayraktar TB-2 drones supplied by Ankara were deployed against India.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s repeated mentions of Kashmir at the United Nations further strained relations.
India’s strategic alignment with Turkey’s regional adversaries mirrors these actions, signalling a calibrated response.
Armenia: A Strategic Partner In The Caucasus
Located between Azerbaijan and Turkey, Armenia has relied on India for advanced military systems since 2022. New Delhi has supplied it Akash-1S air defense systems, Pinaka multiple launch rocket systems, artillery, anti-tank rockets and anti-drone technology.
This strengthens Armenia’s defense against Turkey-backed Azerbaijan and creates the potential for Indian and Turkish assets to face each other in any future conflict in the region.
Greece: Maritime Coordination And Strategic Depth
Greece has become a key partner in India’s Mediterranean strategy. The two nations share mutual concerns over Turkey’s maritime and airspace claims. Following public support for India after the Pahalgam attacks, Greece requested operational guidance on Rafale fighter jets and combat data sharing.
In August 2025, Indian frigate INS TAMAL participated in PASSEX exercises with the Greek Navy. The following month, INS Trikand conducted the first bilateral naval drill with the Hellenic Navy. Exercises included anti-submarine warfare, night boarding drills and coordinated gunnery operations.

This partnership not only bolsters Armenia’s military against Turkey-backed Azerbaijan but also creates the possibility of Indian and Turkish military assets facing each other in any future regional flashpoint.
Greece stands out in India’s Mediterranean strategy, sharing common opposition to Turkey’s expansive maritime and airspace claims. In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attacks, Greece expressed public solidarity with India and sought operational guidance on Rafale fighter jets, alongside combat data-sharing arrangements.
Indian naval units have deepened maritime interoperability with the Hellenic Navy, as seen with August 2025 PASSEX drills by INS Tamal and September’s bilateral exercise involving INS Trikand, focused on anti-submarine warfare, night boarding operations, and coordinated gunnery. Reports suggest India is considering supplying Greece with long-range land-attack cruise missiles (range 1,000–1,500 km), potentially shifting the strategic equation in the Aegean.

Disgruntled by Turkey’s backing for Pakistan during ‘Operation Sindoor,’ India is further strengthening its military ties with three of Ankara’s major rivals: Greece, Cyprus, and Armenia.
When India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ against Pakistan in May 2025 to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack, Turkey publicly chose Pakistan’s side, calling India’s actions “provocative.”
Additionally, it provided support to Pakistan in the military domain, as evidenced by the firing of 350 Turkish drones at Indian cities during the conflict.
During its retaliatory strikes on India, Islamabad reportedly deployed Turkish-origin Bayraktar TB2 and YIHA drones for conducting surveillance, marking targets, and executing kamikaze-style attacks on targets along the borders. The Asisguard Songar drones were used to attack targets inside India.
Turkey’s unprecedented diplomatic, military, and media propaganda support to Islamabad after the ghastly terror attacks in Kashmir outraged Indians.
India initially responded by blocking the X accounts of some Turkish media publications peddling ‘fake news’ and revoking the security clearance for Celebi Airport Services, as reported by the EurAsian Times at the time.
Furthermore, hundreds of top trade leaders from India announced a total boycott of all travel, business, and cultural interactions with Turkey, resulting in a significant decline in Indian tourists visiting Turkey.
In the past, Turkey has provided military aid to Pakistan, including during the 1971 Indo-Pak War, and hosted Pakistani military training.
More importantly, though, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly internationalized Kashmir at the UN General Assembly (UNGA), calling it a “threat to peace” in speeches since 2019. India views this as interference in its internal affairs and has condemned Ankara for towing that line.
