so you can definitely give INC a minimum of 17 seats out of 42. a few more in SA, and they will once again have majority LS representation from AP.
Only if they get the Telangana Bill passed in Parliament. There is nothing certain about this.

Samajwadi Party's 23, National Conference's 3 and Trinamool Congress's 19 MPs are not going to support UPA for Telangana. It's also unclear if DMK's 18 MPs would support the move as M Karunanidhi has also criticized Congress's handling of Telangana issue.

If NDA takes a principled stand and does not support Telangana then UPA cannot pass it. Everybody can pounce on Congress for not pursuing the issue seriously, for not building a consensus and undertaking the move with so much delay.

Telangana Bill alone will not suffice to get Telangana people on board the Congress train!

Don't take Tony seriously, Kittoo. Two days ago, Christians formed 30% in Andhra according to Tony. Today it is `more than 20%'. Give him a few more days for the effects of whatever he is smoking to wear off, and he will give a more sober figure. He is a supposed Buddhist and he tries to get reactions by claiming outlandish figures for Christianity in India (but he will never give a source for his supposed claims).

As for Christianity in Andhra, in 1971, it was 4.71%, but then, people started registering themselves as Hindus to take advantage of reservations. Christianity went underground, and missionary activity has been continuing all through the 80s and 90s as well. YSR's appearance just gave them high profile (missionary activity was probably higher during CBN's time). Even the ambitious church figures in Andhra put Christian population at 7-8% in 2008. It is only in one district that they are claiming Christian population is 20% (Prakasam). In all honesty, I don't think Christian population is more than 10% of Andhra.

OT, but I wonder what it is with this mindless hatred that all these people have for Hindus. Xtians and Muslims - it's their ideology. What's with the Buddhists, though? Guys showing up on the forum just to gloat about how Hindus are going to get wiped off the face of the earth (like the native Americans), and only Buddhists are going to survive. Seems like this particular guy here is just drooling at the possibility of a Hindu holocaust.

Hindus are human too, and there's no need for this unreasoning hatred and schadenfreude. A little introspection is called for here.

It is actually quite common among the Ambedkaraite Buddhists, and from what I am seeing now, even among the more rabid Sri Lankan Buddhists. As for Tony, he has an obsession with race, and white and black skin. Everything begins and ends with race (Alfred Rosenberg would have been so proud of him).

One step at a time gurus. First the committee formed has to draft some rubbish thing. With people like Chiddu and J Ramesh I don't expect anything else. All promises and no real commitment etc. They have to contain the agitation by that time. Problem is to get the assembly pass the resolution or give a positive response to division. With present conditions Mitch would require great manipulation. We have to see

The problem with those statistics is the admitted recidivism among Indian Christians. The converts accept benefits, are supposed to have converted to Christianity and end up returning to Hinduism. The 5000 Indians converting has to be seen in that light (If indeed it is truly 5K). Here is a survey by DLHS in 2007-2008. The number of Christians was found to be 7% in Andhra

(scroll down to page 18)

I would imagine, even given very advantageous circumstances for the missionaries, that the number of Christians is about 10% at the most.

same thing happened in Sindh and eastern bengal prior to invasion of bin qasim and bakhtiar khilji respectively. More prominently in sindh. Many of them refused to join in the fight and many even converted to Islam, just to spite hindus. Buddha was right. Sangha was relevant for 1000 years only. Nothing wrong with Buddha's mat. hum to marenge hi magar tujhe bhi lekar marenge - kind of SRK style love from Bazigar-darr-anjam is displayed.

The anger of neobuddhists (the ambedkaraite ones) towards upper castes is at least understandable up to a point. But when they start churning out chutiyas like kancha ilaiya and assorted people from the moolnivasi sangh type orgs, it becomes really annoying. There is a soosai loving streak in certain section of buddhists. Same thing when they invited and allied with Menander-the greek (whom they call Milinda) against Sungas for taking power of magadha from brihadratha and stopping the state patronage which buddhist sangha was receiving during later mauryan time. Same goes for Kanishka.

at least a section of Hindus, somehow, were constantly motivated to throw out mlechhas out of land. call it puritanical urge, (vincent smith calls is brahminical urge for some reason which is now very obvious after RM's breaking INdia). Buddhist Kushanas were Dharmiks. heck, the son and grandson of kanishka were vaidik hindus (shaivas). yet, they incurred the fury of hindus when samudragupta rid earth of their existence. The epigraphs specifically state that samudragupta was pleased ridding earth of barbarian existence. same goes with our hero vikramaditya. conversion to aastika memes did not stop aastika people from considering the foreign political rulers as their own. shakas or scythians were staunch hindus when vikramaditya eliminated them. Hunas had become staunch hindus when Yashodharma eliminated them. Menander and kanishka were hailed and welcomed by buddhist intelligentsia because they thought the time akin to ashoka will return.

Even in reign of guptas (even sungas), there was no much troubles for sangha from state. everything was business as usual. still such behavior.

Vijayamma meets Rajnath, seeks BJP support on united AP: PTI
New Delhi: YSR Congress Chief YS Vijayamma today met BJP President Rajnath Singh and sought his party's support for their stand on the issue of a separate Telangana state in the wake of popular protests over the Centre's decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.

During the meeting that lasted about 20 minutes, Vijayamma, who was accompanied by other party leaders, handed over a memorandum to Rajnath Singh on the bifurcation issue.

When asked about any possibility of the two parties joining hands ahead of Lok Sabha elections, she said the time was not right to talk about alliances as AP was burning.

Vijayamma requested the BJP Chief to stick to an earlier resolution by LK Advani that AP should be bifurcated either through a state Assembly resolution or by the second States Reorganisation Commission.

YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy is on a fast against the bifurcation of the state and is urging the Centre against dividing AP.

YSR Congress MP Rajamohan Reddy said, "He (Singh) knows everything about AP. Though they (BJP) are in favour of Telangana, the way things are happening in AP, they, too, are unhappy. "We came to keep the state of AP united. That is the only programme we have and we are meeting leaders of all political parties," he added. Responding to speculation over future alliances, Rajamohan also said, "We never discussed any politics".
Jagan and his Mom are trying to give the impression that they are the ones most sincere and dedicated to keeping the state of Andhra Pradesh united. Rajnath Singh just helped YSRCP in giving that impression. Bad Politics!

Ramanaji.. Combining my thoughts with yours

/ Both the national parties are supporting the state split.
/ The regional parties understood this, that is why they are focussing more on ensuring SA interests than saying absolute No to Telangana.
/ The local parties walked into the trap by giving consent letter one day or not
/ KKR tried to throw a spanner by saying will defeat the assembly resolution. The solution to this is presidents rule on one or other pretext.
/ Congress seem to be hell bent on going ahead with the split
/ Congress put GoM to discuss and they are talking about 6wk time frame to discuss details
/ They are trying to complete the process on Dec 9th, which will be SG's birth day
/ This will become Telangana formation day - Dec 9th

/ The only power that can stop this is BJP
/ That is why both Samaikhyandra political flag bearers - TDP and YSRCP are talking to BJP
/ All they need is for BJP to ensure that the process is not completed before 2014 elections.
/ This is logical for Congress doesn't have the national mandate (UPA2 is nothing but a mafia agreement than an elected govt) to do anything like this.
/ In return both TDP/YSRCP may support BJP post elections whether from inside or outside or somewhere in between

/ This is not a u-turn for BJP for it always stood for T-demand, but not the cost of SA genuine concerns
/ BJP can say that it will support T-bill in parliament, if and only if, this is accepted by both sides and also passed by state assembly.
/ In the meanwhile BJP can call for all party meeting for political discussions with or without 2G nonsense
/ They can also organize JAC meetings from both sides for each concern area.

/ Post 2014 elections, if congress comes to power they can push the bill again (assuming they have majority)
/ In the meantime, hopefully BJP can lead an agreement between both sides

/ If BJP comes to power it can ensure that a just compromise is reached before t-Bill is introduced
/ Being the alliance partners it will have the support of YSRCP as well as TDP in such a deal.
/ It is in the best interests of TRS to behave and take BJP leadership. Otherwise it will have to wait till congress comes to power again.
/ I hope INC will not throw a *****-fit at that time and say no to Telangana

Because it said so
The division of Andhra Pradesh comes across as Congress caprice.

Imagine a doctor leaving a patient on the operating table halfway through a surgery to attend to other issues. The fate of the division of Andhra Pradesh today appears to be that of the patient. The process, whose origins can be traced back to nearly a decade ago, still continues to be a work in progress. Like the doctor who keeps returning to the operating room at regular intervals, the Congress-led UPA government has revisited its decision many times over. Each visit, however, addresses only the complications, leaving the procedure incomplete. If this were to go on, our good doctor is soon likely to find that everything has fallen apart. The present state of affairs in Andhra Pradesh is close to this and the Congress may soon have to pay for both gross negligence as well as arrogance.

From fuelling the current demand in 1999, when in opposition, to distract and undermine the victorious and influential Chandrababu Naidu, to passing a cabinet resolution earlier this month, both the Congress and Telangana have travelled a long way. The issue of Telangana has probably witnessed more ups and downs in the last decade than it has over the last 60 years. It was on the manifesto of the Congress in 2004 but was deflated temporarily by the setting up of the Punchhi Commission on Centre-State Relations. It was revived by the midnight announcement of the home minister in December 2009, only to be deflected by the setting up of the Justice Srikrishna Committee in February 2010. Unexpectedly, at the end of July this year, the UPA coordination panel and the Congress Working Committee (CWC) decided to divide the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The scale of the consequences arising from the CWC resolution had probably not been anticipated. The immediate and most serious causality of the decision has been the paralysis of the state government. It has also been accompanied by a non-formalised division of the Congress party, between those batting for Telangana and those for a united Andhra. What have, however, remained unchanged before and after the decision are the agitations. Though, of course, the actors, demands and the sites of agitation vary. If the demand for bifurcation and Telangana regularly hit the headlines over the last decade, the Samaikyandhra movement, agitating for the cause of a united Andhra, has now quickly filled that space. At the same time, the site of the agitation has shifted from Telangana to the coastal region.

The Samaikyandhra movement, which began in 2009, has been collectively supported by government employees, students, teachers and advocates in the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. It has upped the ante over the last two months and the recent power utility disturbance brought it national attention. The indefinite strike by the Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers, an employees union, has ensured that government offices barely function. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has not been able to run its full fleet, which has both disrupted movement and bled the corporation. Educational institutions in the two regions have been partially closed. There have also been reports of declining revenue collection as a result of uncertainty. Ironically, all this is happening when the state has received adequate rainfall and its reservoirs are full after many years.

There are two ways to evaluate a decision. One is to examine the process of decision-making and the second, to focus on the outcomes. The Congress-led UPA appears to have got it wrong on both counts. If it had got just one of these dimensions right, the state and the people would have been better off. The Congress first acted as if it would never have to bite the bullet. Telangana — its people, issues, concerns and priorities — has never been genuinely on the top of the Congress agenda. The party was never firm on its commitment and has almost always used Telangana for strategic purposes. Over the last decade, it has oscillated between bifurcation and status quo, depending on the political circumstances. This extraordinary focus on the short term does not behove a party with such a long history. So, it is now trying to be too clever by half by attempting to claim credit for the creation of a new state.

Timing is everything. Decisions that are painful are best taken and implemented swiftly to reduce agony and heartburn. The signals on Telangana have been confusing and the decisions have been prolonged. The painfully agonising gap between decisions has increased the uncertainty and ensured a continuous disruption of life.

At the same time, not wanting to share credit, the Congress has refused to create space for a dialogue to address the apprehensions and concerns of the affected. This has only added to the suspicion that the decision was motivated by crude electoral considerations. The other main political formation, the TDP, has also been acting in a confused and disjointed manner, partly as a result of the Congress actions.

The Congress may have succeeded in neutralising potential veto players like the TRS, the TDP and the BJP, but it probably took itself for granted. The party has always seen a lot of control and central intervention, but this decision might have stretched things too far. The state unit was never in the loop as the central leadership was more concerned about the political situation at the national level than in the state. This fait accompli mode of decision-making, without respect for the state unit, has reduced the latter's space to manoeuvre. Ultimately, it is the state unit that has to face the brunt of the decision and it is understandable that it exhibits a distinct lack of enthusiasm.

By now, the Congress should have learnt that the meanings of yesterday's decisions are often discovered today. Therefore, how it actually takes the decision forward and what outcome it results in may help it save its own honour and bring succour to a much troubled people.

He is barking up the wrong tree, while being overly dramatic about it. If anybody is still talking about doralu (landlords) subjugating the poor, then he is living in a different era. The world has moved on since then. Its like saying Brahmins or the Thakurs still call the shots in UP or Bihar. After Marri Chenna Reddy's amnesty to Naxalites and gave them a free run, things changed for ever. The demand for a seperate Telangana is across all sections of the society. There is realisation across all sections of society that Telangana is underdeveloped and lack of water is the single most reason for it. 10 acres of land in coastal Andhra is better than 100 acres (and hardly anybody has more than 30-40 acres) in Telangana.

There is no proof Telanganas did it. That iconoclastic zeal does not exist among Telanganas. If anything such tendencies were displayed by Rayalaseema folks who broke Rajeev Gandhi and Indira Gandhi statues while protesting the T declaration. A worthy from rayalaseema posted those pics here boasting how TFTA they are.

if T-vadis did a fraction of this, they would be called Taliban.

The SA populace is guided by one goal: making sure they keep their "strategic depth".

this is not about "livelihood". it is about elite fear of loss of "power and prestige".

I'm surprised INC hasn't yet dusted off its old history books. they know how to end this quite easily. think of what made the Kosta to launch their own "Jai Andhra" in 1971. INC knows all this history very well.

Digvijaya speaking for KKR recently is the first indication. it is probably why KKR wasn't removed even after his "rebellion". he is probably playing a double role, knowingly or unknowingly.

Hyderabad, Oct. 8: Over 4,000 babies have died in Andhra Pradesh’s hospitals, about half of them newborns in non-functional incubators, since an indefinite power employees’ strike began on Sunday morning, doctors’ associations said.

No figures were available from a state government virtually paralysed by striking employees and truant ministers from Seemandhra since July 31. Doctors’ bodies gave rough estimates of infant deaths by collating district-wise inputs from hospitals, but none were willing to be quoted.

In normal times, the state’s hospitals witness an average of 300-400 baby deaths daily —which means at least an additional 1,000 babies have died per day since the strike began...

As People are now making statements on the "streak of iconoclasm is in dirty SA" maybe they can proceed ahead and say that Just near the nalgonda border with guntur the iconoclasm gene infects the people and they all become dutty and "fuc.ked up"
+
In addition to those being given by the one sided congi national paid media, SAs are now getting blanket judgements of being "Fuc.ked Up" needing "Kicks on their behinds" ....... Nice

Maybe matrimc ji can spare some of his precious phlegm to the rubbish being peddled above ?

^^Sure, it looks like a paid news item. Hopefully, it remains that way and none of that becomes true.

Yeah you can be sure and I say it based on the daily news I get to hear from the RIMS in kadapa - where children have been dying since long and no one cared to make it a news item till it was useful in Seemandhra agitation context. That local editions of vernacular dailys are full of reports of how kadapa kurnool pediatric departments have been regularly giving out death counts of children since years - that ICU wards of all govt hospitals are a den of antibiotic resistant diseases ,that beds are unclean unwashed etc , inspite of icus currently running with ac off and generators whirring day and night... Take the above given straight from a helpless sup of one of these hospitals.
Same was the case since years back of govt hospitals in guntur same was the case in rajamundry same in khammam - and worst was the case in srikakulam , Ive lived seen and dealt with them all in hospital campuses.
So, Yeah you can be sure.

So I suggest to all the nonresidents getting private care in dustmite less, aseptic , allergen free centrally airconditioned massa pvt hospitals to not to bring your angst on SA's based on the dealings you may have had with them abroad based on gilt and glamor or shallowness they displayed to go ahead and label all SA's to be "fuc.ked up"
That will be similar to how Tamil Tambhi Vina avargal has given sermons based on his dealings with bloated SA sharks(this is curious as sharks in real estate are all bloated not just SA origin types) in chennai bangalore real estate markets.

I am now taking treatment in AP only and there is power during night in most of the places. Today there is no power cut. Cyclone is coming and due to that power may be cut as a safety measure. I am told in some areas power is not there fully. Villages are suffering full blackout. Situation in Rayalaseema saidbto be very bad. I have no info on details. No petroleum etc also.

You have to note most of the AP villages do not have regular power for many years to start with. 32k crore is the accumulated losses of electrcity board. Free power in April means no power.

National Media ignore the looting history of Jagan and started showing him as another Nelson Mandela.

devesh wrote:I'm surprised INC hasn't yet dusted off its old history books. they know how to end this quite easily. think of what made the Kosta to launch their own "Jai Andhra" in 1971. INC knows all this history very well.
Devesh garu,

I tried to get some info on this claim.

As a CM of Andhra Pradesh, Sri PVNR did two things
1/ Land reforms
2/ Introduction of Mulki rules

The Jai-Andhra movement in 1972 (not 1971) is said to be started against the Mulki rules and not land reforms. I could be wrong, but not able to get much on Internet. Appreciate some references.
His tenure as Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh is well remembered even today for his land reforms and strict implementation of land ceiling acts in Telangana region. President rule had to be imposed to counter the Jai Andhra movement during his tenure
The activists demanded that the safeguards for Telangana region be removed for continuation of Andhra Pradesh. The demands were

Mulkhi rules (Local quota) be removed
Supreme Court order in favour of locals repealed
Telangana Regional committee dissolved
Replace two budgets, one for Telangana region and one for Andhra region into one state budget

Land reforms is bs (purer form of Naxal idea implemented in an almost failed state of WB) and that will kill the enterprise. You need big farmers to take risks. More small farmers more suicides and more government involvement. There will be a day in India the farmer has to be independent of government's involvement of subsidies etc. If we start distributing land to everyone who cannot invest and has abilities to absorb risk it will just kill the agriculture sector. Just like in corporate mergers happens and big corporates buy the smaller ones, the weak farmers have to be shunted out of farming business. That is the natural course and trying to do differently is the reason for lack of faster growth. Learn new skill and get on with life.

If you hate Andhras that is fine but making them as villain on everything that India did and rest of India has is below the belt talk.

Now the state is split and let us see what kind of great Naxal ideas will be implemented in young state of Telangana. Let us implement land reforms in Telangana as T-Reddys and velamas are very generous folks since the times of Nizam.

TRS is such a junk and they want president's rule. Instead of asking for expediting the division, they just want the boil to continue. They should ask for a swift split with interim governments of two states.
