The FIR drama of Hafeez Saeed gets the desired results: SM Krishna will meet Quereshi
The Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan will meet in New York for talks on September 26-27, the Online news agency reported on Friday.

The Foreign Secretary-level talks will be held on September 26, while the Foreign Ministers will meet a day later, a private news TV channel said quoting Pakistan foreign office sources.

The schedule for the talks has been formally finalised, the report said.
Now, we have to wait to see what further ground, over and above SeS, that SM Krishna will concede for his part.

PC was quoted saying that he'll be happy even if Saeed is interrogated in private.
So, there is no role for the courts.
Everything going as per the script.

I could find only this piece worthy of posting here from the NUGGETS of TFT
Unfair to Hafiz Saeed!

Writing in Nawa-e-Waqt Fazl Hussain stated that first India accused Zakiur Rehman Lakhwi of Jamaatud Dawa of being the mastermind behind the Mumbai attacks. But when Hafiz Saeed chief of Jamaatud Dawa was let out of jail by the Court, it shifted its attention to Hafiz Saeed, calling him mastermind. It says telephone calls made by the terrorists mentioned the name Hafiz Sahib. There are millions of hafiz persons of Quran in Pakistan.

Najam Sethi's editorial, Ghosts of 9/11, in TFT
Seventh, India is now called upon to play a critical role in obtaining security for this region. Its proxy intelligence wars with Pakistan in Afghanistan and Balochistan, originally devised to counter Pakistan’s interference in Kashmir, are yielding diminishing returns. Therefore the sooner India reopens unconditional dialogue with Pakistan the better. This shouldn’t be too difficult for the new Congress government provided it is able to see the long term wisdom of consolidating peace with the new political dispensation in Pakistan and strengthening its hands against the extremists within and without.

India must accept that the old tit-for-tat and sum-zero paradigm is no longer valid and it must resolve its disputes with Pakistan in a spirit of brotherly give and take. Otherwise, far from being laid to rest, the ghosts of 9/11 will succeed in creating anarchy in this region.{Threats, threats and more threats. Pakistan has been on a binge recently threatening India.}

...yes indeed.India "gives" and Pakistan and China "take".That is the zero-sum game of these the two entities of evil, enemies of India. The saga of prosecuting the accused of 26/11 are a mere sideshow,a "tamasha" of international proportions to completely fool the global community and keep India and its legions of babu-mindest politicos and babus, splitting hairs endlessly. This farce is turning into a Bollywood masala movie with those lengthy courtroom dramas, lots of "sound and fury, signifying nothing".

Truly did a former Army chief once describe Pak as a mere "irritation",which we could easily deal with, adding that China was our greatest danger.

Despite the ongoing Muslim holy month of Ramazan / Ramadan, a Mosque is bombed and member of Maulana Sami ul Haq’s, aka “Sammy Sandwich” , JUI is killed.

A case of a Shia counterstrike on the Sunni Deobandi Muslims following the IED Mubarak in Kohat district?:
Bomb kills local mayor in northwest Pakistan

By RIAZ KHAN PESHAWAR, Pakistan — A bombing at a mosque in northwest Pakistan killed a prominent Sunni Muslim official just hours after a suicide attack in a nearby Shiite Muslim-dominated village left 29 dead, police said Saturday.

It was not immediately clear if two were linked, but the mosque bomb Friday was the third blast in the area in two days, underscoring the relentless security threat in a region riddled with Taliban and al-Qaida and simmering with sectarian tension.

The bomb went off at the mosque in Och village near Hangu town before midnight, killing district mayor Haji Khan Afzal and wounding three other people, police official Gul Jamal said.

Afzal was apparently praying at the mosque when the blast — eight kilograms of explosives detonated by remote control — brought its roof crashing down onto him, Jamal said.

The mayor was affiliated with Jamaat Ulema Islam, an Islamist party in the government. …………………

The patent holders of the tactic of first bombing a random target and then subsequently bombing the funeral of the victim or victims seem to be firmly ensconced in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Our own Prem Shankar Jha wries in TFT:
The drama that unfolded in Islamabad demonstrated just how weak the civilian state in Pakistan was, for in the emergency triggered by the capture of Ajmal Kasab, the army asserted its power and forced Zardari to back down from his initial commitments to India.

But in the months that followed, more and more Indians, both within and outside the government, noticed that the civilian state in Pakistan had beaten only a tactical retreat. The vigour with which it pursued the investigations into the origins of the 26/11 plot came as a pleasant surprise. It is true that the Zardari government has not been able to actually prosecute those whom it has indicted. But the accusations of bad faith, which are once again being heard, have lost much of their vigour.

Today, behind the confusing and often contradictory stances being taken by different wings of the government, there is a growing perception in Delhi that the civilian and military states in Pakistan are slowly knitting themselves together. And they are doing so on a moderate and pragmatic platform that holds out hope for the future of both countries.

Pakistan police raid US-employed security firm

ISLAMABAD — Pakistani police say they have raided a local security firm that has a contract with the U.S. Embassy.

The raid Saturday comes amid intense coverage in the local media of American use of private security firms in the country, much of it negative.

Akram says police found 61 assault rifles and nine pistols that were allegedly unlicensed.

I am getting more and more confused. This whole drama of filling an FIR against hafeez Syed on some phony charges, 'Discourse on Jehad as an obligation' can be easily twisted to say that it was par tof the teachings of Quran. Since Hafeez syed is a man of Quran he was doing his religious duty.

OTOH, I feel this has been devised to give a face saving excuse for GOI to continue the dialogue under severe American pressure. After the debacle at S-E-S and the subsequent storm raised in India, M Moorakh S could not have dared to start the stalled dialogue without putting something on the table - regarding movement on Mumbai attack trials. Bingo tha solution is found out - File some phony FIR and let's begin the 'Noora kushti' as it is called in Haryana(Basically both of the wrestlers are acting to wrestle).

Even more hillarious is the statement from Chidambaram regarding the interrogation of Hafeez syed in private. In the morning though, I saw krishna make a statement that Syed has not been booked under 26/11 so no movement on talks. Among the long list of failures of MMS, here are the gems in past 2 days.
1. " I see no aggression from China's side"
2. " There is some movement on bringing the guilty to book on mumbai attacks, ala Hafeez syed"

Where is the Famed knowledge of institutional governance in Kangress? What are they set to gain?

The focus of my talk is to put pressure on TSP for 26/11 prosecution: SM Krishna

Until yesterday, SMK was saying there won't be any talks. Pakistan slapped two FIRs on Hafeez Saeed without even arresting him as yet for speeches he made more than three weeks back. It is obvious therefore that the FIRs are just a ruse to bring around India. P.Chidambaram says imediately that he would be happy if TSP can use these FIRs to ask questions to Hafeez Saeed on 26/11. (Why should there be FIRs to question anyone at all ?) TV anchors praise PC for putting pressure on TSP through Washington. Suddenly, SMK has somersaulted and just to mislead Indians he is saying that the talks will focus on 26/11. And, we are worried about whether TN was successful on May 11, 1998 or not.

Of course. First of all, Pakistanis do not consider jihad as a bad thing in the same way as the non-Islamic world generally associates meaning with the term 'jihad'. For Pakistanis, jihad is something to be proud of and needs to be indulged in against the kufr. The excessive obsession with Kashmir and the 'plight' of Muslims in India, perpetuated in Pakistani minds through State propaganda, gives an 'exalted' position to those who profess to fight for this cause, namely the Pakistani military, the mullahs, and the jihadis in that country, and especially to a shaheed or a ghazi and acts as a sine qua non for “unifying and rallying ” in an otherwise fractured and confused society groping for an identity. Nothing exemplifies this better than bus driver who was praised for saving the Sri Lankan cricketeers in Lahore on Mar. 3, 2009, being the brother of a mujahid ‘martyred’ in Kashmir in 1995. They showed his brother's photos along with his own all over the place. The idea of jihad to wage a war against infidel non-Muslims has found consonance at the highest levels within Pakistan. Thus, the State and its various actors have accepted jihad as the rightful means to wrest Kashmir from India and cause mayhem in India with an eventual goal of 'conquering' it religiously, and militarily. Yesterday, I happened to hear Hamid Mir in Times Now channel and he confirmed this completely when he said that the masses in Pakistan are all for jihad.

If the pressure becomes too much, there is always an escape clause. The call for 'jihad' will be fudged with distinction between 'Jihad al Saif' and 'Jihad al Kabir' and it can be argued that the accused was referring to the latter which was 'inner reformation' and all that BS. Again, taqiyyah allows such an approach.

In one master self stroke/ goal, Chinese aggression has been turned into 'media hype', Indian aggression, but our northern bullies are just holier than thou can imagine feeling hurt and it's all our combined duties to assuage hurt Chinese feelings due to all the aggressive reporting on Chinese cross border antics.

Incompetency will cause a sell out. Problem with incompetents is they don't even realize they are selling out and compromising interests. The statements being doled out by PC/ SMK are shocking enough each day. We may as well stop pressuring Pakis on 26-11 than play the farce thats presently doing rounds.

Arrested TTP commanders confess to receiving help from India
A report here on Saturday submitted to high officials by a joint investigation team said that 23 most wanted militant commanders including Sim Khan, Mahmood Khan and Maulvi Umer who were captured during operation Rah-e-Rast have confessed that they had been provided financial aid, weapons and special training by secret agencies from India and Afghanistan to fight against Pakistan’s security forces.

The report also divulged that some militants received special war training from Afghanistan and secret agencies of two other neighbouring countries also supported them in the plan.

It was said in the report that secret agencies from India were in contact with militants in Jalalabad, Kandahar and Mazar Sharif and the militants went to their collaborators via secret ways where they were invited to feasts and they were provided weapons and money earned by the narcotics trade.

The senile nit-wit PSJ is exhibiting some syndrom like the Stockholm syndrome or something. Its like a rape victim so traumatized and humiliated, and unable to do anything to the rapist, she deludes herself into believing that the rapist is actually doing some good to her. At least that brings some peace of mind. Only thing left for PSJ would be to morph himself into a Paki, and in that pyschological state of mind, he will actually feel victorious for 26/11 like his Paki lovers.

Any realistic policy to bring TSP to justice should be the realization among all & sundry in India, that the entire Paki state, from RAPE, to the average Abdul has contempt and hatred for the Hindu. And in this mnindset, any vile crime is not seen as a crime, only an Allah-inspired path to fight for a just cause. This is the reality that India must take into account to formulate its Paki strategy. Not this deluded nonsense that there is some difference between the so called civilian govts and TSPA in their attitutde towards India.

I have never been able to decipher few things. Let me change the approach today and try and start asking the right questions instead of seeking answers.
1. What is wrong with us Indians that we continue to yearn for the lost land?
2. I understand that it is not easy to let go of the loss but eventually they are 'Arabs'.
3. What are we doing to get it back in the fold?
4. Why do we continue to invent /discover faults within ourselves and justify Jinnah, Liaqat and company for partition?
5. what is wrong with sanatan that we feel no iota of shame in self flagellating and are in love with the Pukis?
6. What this constant yearning for peace at any cost? We continue to invent reasons to speak to TSP?
7. Why are our eyes closed to the thought that basically there is no difference between TSPA/ TALIBAN & JEHADIS? TSPA are jehadis in uniform.
8. Why cant we accept that the populace on that part of land has lost all the knowledge of indic civilisation?
9. There is nothing called moderate Pakistani and why there is so much reluctance to accept the HINDU & SIKH brethren trying to come over from Pakistan?
10. Till when will we continue to shy from announcing to all the minorities in TSP that they are welcome to come to their mother land - Strictly hindus and sikhs?

I have long laundry list

Till the minorities (strictly hindus and sikhs) have a verifiable proof: that they have propensity to vote en bloc, once inside India. As long as this is not demonstrable or established by other sense, it cannot happen.
Sorry, we cannot protect people who come actively seeking refuge such as Tasleema Nasreen; proactively inviting “minorities of pureland” to a sekular nation is a joke.
OTOH sekular nation will make exceptions if majorities of pureland/BD make it to the mother land as they would warranty votes. Right now, the mindset is as kannada saying goes “managae mari, oorigae upakari” (loosely translated: Demon for the home, Angel for the pardes).

Dossier Diplomacy of GoI is to gain time in order to strengthen IS in desh . So far it has worked .GoI had no illusions .However we can still keep asking why the best path as being advised here on forum not followed but best is usually the enemy of good so long it keeps jihadis away from staging an attack , its working.TSP is itching for India to say yes let's move to core set of problem & then whole cycle be repeated again where in TSP , a buffalo doesn't give milk means jihadi terror attack on Indian Soil . Its a question of time , more time we have more measures we can take on our own.

LAHORE: Al Qaeda is trying to get its hands on Pakistan’s nuclear secrets and remains dangerous as ever, a private TV channel quoted US special envoy Richard Holbrooke as saying on Wednesday. He said Al Qaeda was still operating in the region, adding that it was publicly asking nuclear engineers to give them nuclear secrets from Pakistan. On the Afghan elections, Holbrooke said the US was not in Afghanistan to support the elections, but to protect its own interests. He said the Obama administration had substantially increased its aid for Afghanistan and

US embassy security firm raided
Police in Pakistan say they have raided the offices of a private security firm hired by the US embassy in Islamabad.

The offices of the Inter-Risk company were entered and around 70 weapons were seized and two personnel arrested.

Officials in Pakistan allege that the haul of 61 assault riffles, nine pistols and ammunition were unlicensed.

It follows allegations that the US is using the security firm once known as Blackwater. The US embassy in Islamabad denies it has any contract with them.

The media in Pakistan have reported that the US embassy in Islamabad was involved in hiring the firm Xe services, formally known as Blackwater, a company which was embroiled in allegations of civilian killings while hired to protect US diplomats in Iraq.

A spokesman for the US embassy, Rick Snelsire, has confirmed a contract with Inter-Risk exists and said that "It is our understanding they [Inter-Risk] obtained licenses [for] whatever they brought into the country to meet their contractual needs."

The US has denied that they use Xe services in Pakistan.
{Reverse GUBO :eek: you would think but wait...}

A senior police official, Rana Akram, said that two Inter-Risk employees were detained and are being questioned. They were now seeking the company's owner, a retired Pakistani army captain, the official added.

Police have denied any connection between the raid on Inter-Risk and the US embassy, but said they were working to protect foreigners living in the Islamabad and increasing vigilance ahead of the Muslim feast which marks the end of Ramadan.

Pakistan’s dominant Punjabi’s are a real bunch of control freaks  .

First the Punjabi dominated Army of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan kills the minority Pathans / Pushtuns unfettered by the fact that the Muslim holy month of Ramazan / Ramadan is underway. Now they are looking to ram down the throat of the minority Pathans / Pushtuns the day on which the Muslim festival of Eid should be celebrated  .

Note that the fount of all the below protests is the capital of Pakistani Punjab, Lahore:

Pakistan-India peace forum urges dialogue resumption

New Delhi, Sep 19: India and Pakistan have no alternative to serious dialogue to end the atmosphere of suspicion between them, said speakers at a public meet organised here by the Pakistan India People's Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD) Saturday.

"Cessation of dialogue cannot ensure that there will be no future attacks," said human rights activist Correction : Terrorist rights activist and PIPFPD general secretary Tapan K. Bose, adding that ever since the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, terrorists have set the agenda for relationship between the two neighbours.

"While terror politics represents a growing trend, the peace constituency in Pakistan is also quite strong. The Mumbai attacks and other similar violence on civilians is condemned by large sections of Pakistani society. The peace constituency has also grown over the years in India," he said.

Sumit Chakravarty, editor of the Mainstream journal, warned: "The Pakistani state is reported to be in a crisis. There is a real threat of a civil war breaking out in that country. India's interest is best served by strengthening the peace and democracy loving constituency in Pakistan.

"Can India insulate itself in case there is a civil war in Pakistan? Further, instead of closing our borders to Pakistani citizens, we should open up all borders in South Asia. It is people's free exchange and opportunities for trade that are the best antidotes against extremism and terror," he said. Yes we need to open all our borders so that terrorists can easily cross over and kill people. Terrorist comrades like you will be spared.

Many speakers said that the joint statement issued by Pakistan and India at Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt, July 16 was a creative piece of diplomacy to set the dialogue process back on the track but the spirit of the statement was soon diluted.

"The ruling party, buckling under the attack, has continuously diluted the spirit and the interpretation of the joint statement," said Father T.K. John of the Vidyajyothi College of Theology. Please rename your college to College of eternal piss

Dawn editorial reporting that the Kohat IED Mubarak (See here) had a link to Pakistan’s Southern Punjab:
Kohat attack

Dawn Editorial
Sunday, 20 Sep, 2009

YET more carnage has visited Kohat district where asuicide bomber killed at least 40 people in a bazaar on Friday. The victims were mostly Shia. Meanwhile in Hangu district, which borders Orakzai and Kohat, the district nazim and head of an aman committee trying to broker peace between Sunnis and Shias was also killed on Friday. Together the attacks are another grim marker in the long-running feud between militant Sunnis and Shias in the area. But there is more. A hitherto unknown faction of the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Al Almi, has claimed responsibility for the bombing in Kohat and, perhaps unsurprisingly to knowledgeable observers, the call was placed from a public call office in North Waziristan. The caller apparently spoke fluent Urdu, adding weight to the argument that the Waziristan agencies have become a haven for militants from south Punjab. So what we appear to have are sectarian attacks being launched inside Pakistan from a base in the tribal belt by groups that are not indigenous to those areas. …………………

US Afghan war benchmarks focus heavily on Pakistan
WASHINGTON: United States President Barack Obama’s Administration’s road map to winning war in Afghanistan relies heavily on clearing al-Qaida terrorists from Pakistan, according to a list of benchmarks given to an increasingly sceptical Congress.

The unclassified list of 46 benchmarks outlines how the Administration plans to track success in war against insurgents in Afghanistan and effort to hunt terrorists inside Pakistan. The top American goal for the region is described as disrupting terrorist networks in Afghanistan and especially in Pakistan.

Pakistan-India peace forum urges dialogue resumption
I seriously believe that the GoI has to carefully look at these people to see why they demand such a thing. Sometimes, it could be misplaced optimism, sometimes it could be a sinister agenda and at other times they might have been penetrated by the ISI and brainwashed. There are many possibilities and the GoI must evaluate these fora to see which one of these is true.

The US seems to have cracked the whip which has got the Pakistani’s scurrying to do their bidding  .

While not named in the article it is clear that the editor is Dr. Shireen Mazari as there are not too many “newly-appointed female editor” “of a Lahore-based English daily” floating about. BRFites will recollect that Dr. Mazari recently joined the Nation as editor.

Anne Patterson 1 , Shireen Mazari 0:
Newspaper editor rebuked for misusing ISI name

* Female editor told to refrain from claiming her views mirror those of military, intelligence leadership

Daily Times
For background on why the US was miffed, this previously posted article is helpful:

I really feel sorry for the Madam. In her heyday, none had the guts to call her by her name, it was always a respectful Madam. Now, everybody calls her Shireen Mazari. Those were the glorious days when the BR jingoes, no less, would latch on to every word she said and analyze it deeply. Her articles brought joy to the dozens of her avid followers here. The analyses of her articles in BRf brought tears of joy and enjoyment in the eyes of whomsoever happened to read them. With the fall of Gen. Musharraf, came the first tide of misfortune. She was unceremoniously kicked out of the PISS which she built brick-by-brick with the sweat and toil of her honey bees, I mean those truck loads of enchanting analysts that she employed, as that unfortunate British Military Attache would willingly testify. Her articles no longer had the bite and began to be ignored, even on the BRf or only enjoyed a fleeting reference. Her edifice crumbled immediately but she bravely continued and joined the hunk's political party where she didn't make as much mark. Now, even her erstwhile friends, the last pillar of strength, are also threatening her ? What a fall !

The farce of Pak prosecuting the perpetrators of 26/11 is hilarious if not for the extreme diabolic villainy of the entire paki establishment and the deaths and famage caused to India. The "pistols" of Pak,Saeed,Kasab and *co.,are merely the contractors, rather contract killers of Pak,in the same manner as the US outsourced its dirty work to Blackwater. The Islamist terror groups of Pak are doing jobs for which they are well paid. The true masterminds are those at the helm of Pak,their military generals and ISI establishment and the cabal of anti-Indian babus and politicos.

The trial is a farce, even if convicted,Saeed will only get a few years in jail for orchestrating the murder of 150+ Indians and foreigners.Let's see what other evidence Pak's joker of a minister,Rehman Malil wants India to produce.
Does he want India to properly identify Saeed,as there are supposedly so many with the name there, perhaps wanting us to produce the officiating mullah who was present at Saeed's circumcision! One can go on and on in this manner. The time has come, actually past time for India to slap pak in its face diplomatcally,if we do not want to openly punish it militarily.Expelling Paki diplomats and stopping Paki overflights is the frist step until Pak "hands over" to India those accused.Nothing else will suffice. We must simultaneously accelerate our covert operations against it,but will our pussycat PM have the will to do so? Will he have to ask Washington for permission first?
