The first and
extremely reliable and
very accurate indication is velocity measurement done by doppler shift. This is fast, and it does NOT depend on the distance of the craft. So finding delta-V (and it to be within the expected value) confirms that MOM is in elliptical orbit. Very accurate parameters are in so isro will be able to calculate its orbit very accurately. (With those elements known SSSaviji, for example can plot the orbit, very accurately)
I will like to know, how much fuel is left now.
Of course, first picture of Mars from MoM would be nice to see.

Nice to see NaMo taking the time to shake hands with each and everyone in the room. He is giving autographs as well. Always wanted a PM who will inspire the nation. ISRO deserves every bit of attention it can get ofcourse.

Twitter buzzing with MOM related puns and fun.
Chitra Subramanian....mere paas MOM hain.
Too good. Country celebrating. Modi asking the schools to celebrate for 5 mins is good suggestion. Creates pride and motivation.

Apart from the great achievement of ISRO, Modi attracts attention (like a lightening rod) of the non-scientific and non-jingo communities. ISRO will bask in his shadow. They are used to eclipses.

In fact they excel when it happens.

No. It's like absolutely not doubting for a microsecond that the Agni III's CEP is 40 m.

Speechless.

What an achievement by our scientists at ISRO. Think of the toil and sacrifices they made personally and professionally. Their skills are truly worthy of worship.

I don't want to pollute this thread otherwise would have posted a farticle from BBC which is still questioning whether Mangalyaan will ever reach Mars orbit.

Maybe everyone at ISRO is busy celebrating so I won't hold it against them that we still don't have any pikchurs. They probably have a ream of them by now.

My guess it that ISRO is using the bandwidth for verifying telemetry data and in a few hours we may have a picture.

45 Kg propellant remaining(against planned 25 kg) so the mission may be extended for a longer time or they may probably dip its apogee.
