Kurds arabs turkomans and yezidis/assyrians are centrifugal paths...the next libya is forming in non assadist areas. Each faction has ruthless backers and will fight to dominate or survive.

I just realized the rebel held area of idlib and aleppo is massive and rivals the assad holdings along the coast..north to south some 150km for sure and same east to west.

More than 150 Syrian military and 63 civilians have died since the beginning of the truce - Russian General Staff

Moscow. September 19th. Interfax-AVN - 153 Syrian soldiers and 63 civilians have been killed in Syria since 12 September, when it was declared a ceasefire, said on Monday the head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Sergei Rudskoy.
"During this period, killing 63 and wounding 252 civilians . The loss of the Syrian Armed forces totaled 153 people, "- he said.
Re: Levant crisis - III
All US Forces are basically mercenaries , paid murderers, its that or no job and poverty for most,
They used ECM so Syrian radars did not even see the planes until the attack started. Since IS has no radars it looks more and more like it was done on purpose. SAA on the ground reports all their fortified positions and equipment were targeted and then the drones attacked those who withdrew to behind the lines. After which the SAA decided to withdraw from the hill tops and now IS controls all 3 hill tops. IS never withdrew during the attack.. So it was coordinated and they knew they were not the targets. They advanced while the attack was ongoing not after it had finished. The drones were used to push SAA further back after they withdrew from front line positions.
All this attempt to claim participation in strike by Danes, UK, US, AU are to muddy the waters and dilute the blame.

we have the moronic coalition led by US where US, UK, Denmark, AU all claim to operate the 2 F-16s that participated in DeZ op.
2 F-16 and 2 A-10 were sighted by Russian AF flying in vicinity.
Out of this A-10 is only operated by USAF which leaves the 2 F16s which have so many owners.

^^ ISIS had recorded this video of deir azor airbase from their perch in jabal tharda.
later reports speak of the syrians recapturing one of the 3 summits while other two are still in IS hands.
with a clear view of airbase from 6km out, its beyond TOW range, but spotters can direct very accurate artillery fire onto vital areas of the military complex...the syrians are probably waiting for the backfires and platypuses to pay visits to these summits.

Re: Levant crisis - III
with a few thermobaric unload to these summits, it should clear out pretty quick. Now ops need to be devastating with massive casualties. No more sitting on fence now.
Re: Levant crisis - III
a mix of thermobaric bombs, parachute guided retarded HE bombs and clusters is perhaps the optimum mix and fire for effect with a fwd air controller calling in the planes in a co-ordinated funnel. probably drop a bunch of air delivered mines also on opp side of the mountain (IS held) to make approaches tougher.
Re: Levant crisis - III
there is now need to stop NATO ops from Iraq kurdistan into Syria. If they had cleared out aleppo, then kweiris airbase could have been used to base the pantsirs which are extremely effective against chota mota F16 types. Need to base khibiny jammers somewhere to defeat NATO agenda. Also Manpads with Syrian troops for the 'low passes'.
China or North Korea should be requested to send troops into DeZ to rebuff NATO terrorism from Iraq.

As per Elijah Magnier twitter the Russians have promised not to leave SAA at the mercy of US & Israeli airstrikes against them henceforth.

Things will escalate in Syria form now onwards, once more. Putin will give his speech in the UN and will most likely be the speech to hear again. Watch out for a possible combined message between Russia and China regarding Syria.

Re: Levant crisis - III
Russians are complicit in the murder of 67 SAA, They know the air raid is a consequence of the truce they forced on Syria. this gave the US an opportunity to strike the SAA and call it a 'mistake'. They grasped it.
How could the Russians be too fücking dumb to see that one coming?
Apparently the US thought the SAA was getting too strong in DeZ and decided to take matters into their own hands.

Re: Levant crisis - III
it seems the UN convoy that delivered aid to rebel held part of aleppo after a long delay was returning empty last night back to bab al hawa crossing when savagely set upon and mauled by ruaf aircraft.
looks like a miscommunication as to why they were travelling at night without informing the route / or something else was going on with those trucks.
there is no great reason to target UN trucks when so many real targets are available in Idlib.
mostly these platypuses come out at night and try to locate and target the furtive convoys that move all over the countryside moving men and materials around. the Tu214R could be guiding them with ground surveillance radar that builds a map of movements. dont think they have the organic M400 pod in syria. with a light bomb load and full internal fuel...and economical 500kmph speed, the platypus can probably fly for atleast 6 hours and hmeinem is quite close to target area. expensive vs a fleet of Mi28N / upgraded Frogfoots the Iraqis use, but beggars cannot be choosers.
longer term - assad's fate rests on rebuilding his army and air force. both are at precarious levels. this is where cheen can probably help by opening its ample warehouses, trainers, "cloned" kits .... apart from russia.

Russia, Syria did not deliver strikes on UN aid convoy near Aleppo — ministry

official spokesman for the defense ministry Igor Konashenkov said on Tuesday.
"No airstrikes on the UN humanitarian convoy in the southwestern outskirt of Aleppo were carried out by the Russian or Syrian aviation," Konashenkov said.
The Russian side did not monitor the movement of the UN truck convoy that came under attack near Aleppo after the humanitarian cargo was delivered to that city, he added.
He explained that the Russian center for the reconciliation of warring factions in Syria kept watch on this convoy using drones, because the route lay across militants-controlled areas.
"At about 13:40 Moscow time all cargoes were safely delivered to the final destination. After that the center for the reconciliation of warring factions in Syria stopped monitoring the convoy. The Russian side did not follow the convoy’s further movements. All information about the convoy’s whereabouts was known only to the militants who control these areas," he said, adding that there are no signs on video from the scene that UN convoy near Aleppo was hit by any ammunition.
"We carefully studied the video recordings of the so-called activists from the scene and found no signs that any munitions hit the convoy," Konashenkov said, explaining that the vehicles have no destruction by the burst wave from an air-delivered munition.
"Everything shown on the video is the direct consequence that the cargo caught fire and this began in a strange way simultaneously with carrying out a massive offensive of militants in Aleppo," he said.

Russian do have tactical drones along the lines of Nishant and Searcher types and even smaller tactical ones that are extensively used in Syria what they lack is drones like Armed Predators or Strategic one like Global Hawk which is being build but will come by 2020 .... I guess they have no option to buy such types and no one would sell it to them so its learning the hard way.

Ahem !
Russia Issues New “Rules of Engagement” in Syria:
Any Aircraft Threatening the Syrian Army, WILL BE SHOT DOWN...
After the United States and "Coalition" aircraft attacked Syrian Army positions "by mistake" – which killed 62 and injured over 100 Syrian Soldiers – Russia says the next mistake will be the pilot's last, as new Rules of Engagement are now in effect.
The timing of the ISIS attack, coming within 7 minutes of the US air strikes against the Syrian Army, has led some to conclude the US is providing air cover for ISIS Terrorists!
An unnamed US military official told Reuters that he was "pretty sure" that the targets hit in US-led coalition air strike on Saturday had been Syrian forces.
The US says its attack stopped as soon as Russia notified the American side that they had been hitting the Syrian military, he added. But that does not fit the facts.
According to both Russian and Syrian Army reports, the American jets were repeatedly told they were attacking the wrong side but continued attacking until aircraft were "painted" by Russian S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems.
It was only after the surface-to-air missile locked-on to the aircraft that they cut off the attack.
After this failure to explain itself, the Russians and Syrians were left to conclude the US attack was deliberate. Moscow cited the strikes, which allowed Islamic State fighters to briefly overrun a Syrian army position near Deir al-Zor airport, as evidence that the United States was helping the jihadist militants.
"We are reaching a really terrifying conclusion for the whole world: That the White House is defending Islamic State. Now there can be no doubts about that,"
If the US and its "coalition" are, in fact, covering for ISIS, then the end for that is near.
Russia issued new Rules of Engagement today, instructing its air forces and Surface-to-Air missile batteries that they are to shoot down any aircraft threatening Syrian Army forces.
So the next "mistake" by a US pilot, will very likely be the last mistake that pilot makes. Once the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system "locks-on" to an aircraft, there is no escape and no defense. The system cannot be jammed and its missiles cannot be fooled by flares or chaff. An S-300 absolutely, positively, will hit and kill any aircraft it is fired at.
Israel is also in trouble with these news rules of engagement. Israel has been sending the Israeli Air Force to strike areas of the occupied Golan Heights – official Syrian territory. Israeli jets will now be shot down if they attack a Syrian Army position.
What this means is simple: The next time the US attacks the Syrian Army, the attacking aircraft are going to be shot down. When that happens, the US will scream "We've been attacked by the Russians" and use that to start a war.

Britain's bankrupt foreign policy in the ME.

Government has no strategy, no plan and only ‘phantom’ allies in Syria, scathing Commons report reveals
As ceasefire sits on the brink of collapse, MPs’ report paints a damning picture of Britain’s bombing campaign
Patrick Cockburn
The Government is failing to implement its policy of making war on Isis in Syria which it was supposed to have launched nine months ago after rancorous debate.
A report by the House of Commons Defence Committee published on Wednesday says that there have been only 65 UK air raids in Syria during this period, compared to 550 in Iraq. Some 31 of these were in the first two months of the air campaign, since when the number has fallen to between three and seven air strikes a month
Drawing attention to the small number of British air attacks in Syria, Dr Julian Lewis, the chairman of the committee, asked in an interview with The Independent why “we had the great debate and vote on beginning military action in Syria when the number of air strikes there are so minute.” He added that, despite the committee’s best efforts, it had been unable to get the Government to identify the 70,000 armed moderates who are meant to be Britain’s local partners on the ground in Syria.
The muddled British political and military strategy in Syria was exemplified last Saturday when British aircraft took part in an air strike that mistakenly killed 62 Syrian army soldiers who were apparently fighting Isis near the besieged provincial capital of Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria. The British government has maintained that the Syrian army is not fighting Isis, but was seeking to crush moderate rebels opposed to Isis and the forces of President Bashar al-Assad.
The committee said the failure of the Ministry of Defence to provide it with a full analysis of UK air strikes in Syria may “undermine the Government’s assertion that the bombing campaign in Syria is in support of credible moderate ground forces”.
Several witnesses leading the air campaign told the committee that there was a big distinction between British air action in Iraq, which is in support of the Iraqi government, and in Syria, where it is unclear whom British air strikes are meant to help. The question the report makes by implication is: that if such moderate forces are more than a myth – and Dr Lewis refers to them as “phantoms” – why have we not supported more vigorously with air strikes?
Asked about difference between UK air action in Syria and Iraq, Lieutenant General Mark Carleton-Smith, Deputy Chief of Defence Staff (Military Strategy and Operations) said that in Syria the UK was “marginally engaged, from the air only, across a much less homogenous battlefield, where the identification of the multifaceted parties, agencies and militias is much more difficult to determine.”
The report is the most rigorous and best-informed attempt to determine the nature of the political and military battlefield in which the UK is engaged in Iraq and Syria. It seeks to get to the bottom of what British forces are supposed to be doing in the war and how far these aims are attainable. It focuses on the lack of a coherent political strategy and, in particular, on the lack of allies on the ground in Syria. It notes that not only have there been very few British air attacks and that “only a minority of the 65 UK air strikes in Syria appear to be in support of opposition forces on the ground.”
In Iraq, enemy forces constitute 55 per cent of the targets, whereas in Syria they were 35 per cent up to the end of May, since when they have risen to 40 per cent, mostly around Manbij in northern Aleppo province where the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces captured the city after a long siege.
The US-Russian ceasefire in Syria has broken down, but who is at fault?
The West’s involvement in Syria is only making matters worse
Having ruled out acting in concert with the Assad government, whose displacement is a centrepiece of British policy, British military action in theory presupposes the existence of a powerful “third force” on the ground in Syria. The report says that “despite extensive correspondence with the Ministry of Defence, the committee was unable to obtain the Government’s list of which groups the UK was supporting in Syria.” It concludes that the real reason why the UK air operation in Syria is so small, despite rhetorical comparisons with resisting Hitler during last year’s Commons debate, is “mainly the lack of partners on the ground, other than Kurdish forces.”
The Government’s explanation on why it cannot reveal the identity of the potent but invisible Syrian armed moderates is that this information would help the Assad government. But Dr Lewis and the report strongly suggest that the very limited nature of the British air campaign is a tacit admission that no such force exists on the ground in Syria which British air strikes might assist. But the existence of such a moderate body is a necessity if both Isis and Assad are to be removed simultaneously.
In the light of this, the report is sceptical about government goals in Syria which “are not only to defeat Daesh [Isis], but also to help bring into being a government which will be neither authoritarian and repressive, on the one hand, nor Islamist and extreme on the other.” It says that these aims cannot be achieved by military means alone.

Good Write up on Kalbir in Syria
Failsafe "Caliber"
http://vpk-news.ru/articles/32439
On tight corners
It should be noted that in October and November, when applied to the first two hits "caliber", participated in the Syrian naval operations group of the Russian Navy consisted of ten ships: six - in the Mediterranean and four - in the Caspian Sea. In the first of these waters none were equipped with shock missile complex "Caliber-NK". The ability to start from the Eastern Mediterranean has appeared only in early December, when there came a submarine "Rostov-on-Don", proceed to the place of permanent bases on the Black Sea. The ammunition was four diesel-electric submarines of missiles "Caliber-submarine" that the submarine and shoot from a submerged position on ground targets.
Then, as part of the task force of the Russian Navy, located in the Mediterranean Sea, there were two small missile ship (RTO) "Serpukhov" and "Green dollars", each of which carries a set of percussion with eight missiles "Caliber-NK".
Based on the data table for use SLCM "Caliber" at IG targets in Syria, as well as the well-known map data can be assumed that the least complex were the trajectory of missiles "Caliber-PL", running from the Eastern Mediterranean on two goals in Raqqa province, about 325 -350 kilometers from the coast to the vast and flat eastern plateau.
Approach it from the coast after crossing the missiles of the coastline and the first correction-board inertial navigation system (INS) SLCM not require further complicated maneuvering, as it was in a missile strike on targets in the same province of Raqqa of the Caspian Sea, where, obviously, the formation flight mission had to take into account the extremely difficult mountainous terrain of Iran and Iraq. It is through the territory of these two countries were the flight routes SLCM 44 "Calibre", running from the Caspian Sea, and in-flight missiles had to perform 147 turns at altitudes from 80 to 1300 meters.
It is obvious that the optimal flight to targets in Raqqa province after a shoreline four missiles "Caliber-PL" running submarine "Rostov-on-Don", could initially take place in the southern part of the Maritime Plain, which stretches in a narrow strip along the Syrian coast . Between it and the valley of the river Orontes River located ridge Ansari (al-Nusayr), running parallel to the shore of the sea from the border with Turkey in the north and almost to the border with Lebanon in the south about 65 kilometers wide and 1200 meters high. Since the southern tip of the ridge is the Tripoli-Chomsky intermountain pass, then it is possible that through him all four missiles flying in the area of 720-th point MTO Russian Navy in Tartus, could leave the airspace over the territory of the Eastern Syrian plateau heading assigned goals in Raqqa province.
In turn, the impact of the Eastern Mediterranean by three missiles "Caliber-NK" for three goals in the province of Aleppo flying missiles after crossing the coastline could lie between the border of Turkey and the northern part of the ridge Ansari.
The trajectory of the main attack
If we talk about the first two massive strokes using "Caliber-NK", then it is possible that because of the large number of the attacked targets (11 and 7, respectively), as well as highly informative underlying mountainous deserted area during the flight of missiles from the Caspian Sea to the provinces of Raqqa, Idlib and Aleppo each group probably were laid own routes. It is believed that those who planned the operation military experts had some opportunities to model the optimal trajectories and impacts as a result of the defeat of the designated purposes, recorded by means of objective control, guidance systems can compare the performance SLCM on terrain with varying topography.
Failsafe "Caliber"
It should be noted that 51 Start "Movement" to the CPG surface ships and torpedo submarine was in normal mode. This is convincing evidence of a certain perfection and reliability of our weapons. For comparison: in 1991 during "Operation Desert Storm" in the US Navy starting nine of the KR "Tomahawk" did not take place due to the failure on board, and at six missiles failures occurred immediately after the release of the CPG.
Since the combat use of Russian SLCM in Syria was the first, it is worth recalling the problems identified in a similar situation with the US "Tomahawk" in Iraq in 1991. Among then manifested significant drawbacks, experts have noted a long time preparing for flight missions KR equipped relefometricheskoy correlation or guidance system for the digital terrain map (midcourse), and electro-optical guidance system (on final), even if the necessary images. In some cases, uninformative plain without sufficient guidance or promoting surface masking object destruction, forced the US military to choose the same approach routes rockets to designated targets. In the presence of the Armed Forces of air defense of Iraq this led to a loss and a decrease in dress attacking cruise missiles. It is natural that during their stay in the US Navy arsenal disadvantage is eliminated, and the very technology of preparation of flight missions for different regions dramatically improved.
If we talk about SLCM "Caliber", then Russian military experts experience in training of combat flight missions for these missiles used in the Middle East, became the first and, I think, very valuable. Syria Syria relief compared to Iran and Iraq, which hosted the flight path "Calibrate" when applied to the first two strokes of the Caspian Sea, a flat, especially in the vast plateau on which the target being attacked.
According to the CEO of the corporation "Tactical Missiles" Boris Obnosova experience Syrian operation will be taken into account in the development of new ammunition, "This new data set, which we got. Because one thing - teaching and testing, and the other - the use in a real situation. And in theater, which is different from our landfills. There's a very different temperature, a different underlying surface, different humidity conditions. At certain times in the lower atmosphere there is haze. Clearly, this applies particularly to the work of guidance means, for example, using laser illumination purposes. "
The first combat use of the Syrian theater SLCM 3M-14 "Calibre", as, in fact, the newest cruise missiles X-101 type air-launched, allowed us to obtain objective data that previously the Russian military and the defense industry did not have. And it's worth it, because it allows you to thoroughly analyze the combat effectiveness of the new high-tech weapons and make the necessary improvements in its construction, hardware and software

Re: Levant crisis - III
Another interesting point to note is statement from Tactical Missile Bureau chief who mentioned that wepons system fuction varies according to multiple factor to quote him
Some thing that works well in Environment of Test say in Russia can vary in Syrian climatic condition that has different temperature , surface , humidity , haze etcAccording to the CEO of the corporation "Tactical Missiles" Boris Obnosova experience Syrian operation will be taken into account in the development of new ammunition, "This new data set, which we got. Russia Had to Call U.S. Twice to Stop Syria Airstrike
On Saturday, about 30 minutes after precision bombs from an armada of American, British, Danish, and Australian warplanes began smashing into a large group of Islamic State fighters gathered near Deir el-Zour, Syria,
the phone rang. But there was a problem. No one at the operations center for the U.S.-led coalition could figure out what the Russian officer on the other end of the line was on about.
So he hung up, and called back. By time the Russian officer found his designated contact — who was away from his desk — and explained that the coalition was actually hitting a Syrian army unit, “a good amount of strikes” had already taken place, U.S. Central Command spokesman Col. John Thomas told reporters at the Pentagon Tuesday.U.S. commanders called off the strike within minutes, but the damage had been done. The incident Saturday killed an estimated 60 Syrian soldiers in what was the coalition’s first inadvertent attack on Syrian troops in the two-year air war. But it came at a tense time, as the week-long ceasefire brokered by the United States and Russia was less than 48 hours from completion. Then all hell broke loose. During those 48 hours, the Russian foreign ministry accused the Pentagon of providing direct support for ISIS; the Syrian military broke the ceasefire; barrel bombs began falling again on Aleppo; and Syrian, and possibly Russian, aircraft obliterated a U.N. aid convoy near Aleppo, killing 12 aid workers and destroying about 20 trucks.
The United States had been planning the strike for two to three days, with the target under surveillance during that time, Thomas said Tuesday. Some reports have emerged that the Syrians weren’t wearing uniforms, and weren’t in the place that the coalition expected them to be, but defense officials wouldn’t comment on the particulars. The U.S. military is now investigating the strike on the Syrian troops, and there is no timeline for its conclusion, U.S. defense officials said. With the ceasefire in tatters, so too are any plans for the Americans and Russians to begin sharing operational information on ISIS and Jabhat Fateh al Sham (formerly known as Nusra Front, al Qaeda’s franchise in Syria) targets. “We don’t move forward until the diplomats tell us to do that,” Thomas said, adding, “we’re waiting to see what we’re asked to do, but I don’t think it’s a situation where we are anticipating any great progress any time soon.”Speaking at a conference in Washington Tuesday, another top U.S. military official said that any cooperation with the Russians is off, at least for the time being. Gen. Herbert “Hawk” Carlisle, head of the Air Combat Command, told reporters that “for the foreseeable future … we will be in deconfliction mode and not in the joint operations” mode with the Russians.
