30 Israeli, Foreign Intelligence officers, killed in Russia’s Caliber missile attack in Aleppo, several U.S., Turkish, Saudi, Qatari, British officers were also neutralized

“The Russian warships stationed in Syria’s coastal waters targeted and destroyed a foreign military operations room, killing over two dozen Israeli and western intelligence officers.

Several US, Turkish, Saudi, Qatari and British officers were also killed along with the Israeli officers. The foreign officers who were killed in the Aleppo operations room were directing the terrorists’ attacks in Aleppo and Idlib”.

FNA) ~ The Russian warships stationed in Syria’s coastal waters targeted and destroyed a foreign military operations room, killing over two dozen Israeli and western intelligence officers.

The Russian warships fired three Caliber missiles at the foreign officers’ coordination operations room in Dar Ezza region in the Western part of Aleppo near Sam’an mountain, killing 30 Israeli and western officers,” the Arabic-language service of the Russian Sputnik news agency quoted battlefield source in Aleppo as saying on Wednesday.

The operations room was located in the Western part of Aleppo province in the middle of sky-high Sam’an mountain and old caves. The region is deep into a chain of mountains.

Several US, Turkish, Saudi, Qatari and British officers were also killed along with the Israeli officers. The foreign officers who were killed in the Aleppo operations room were directing the terrorists’ attacks in Aleppo and Idlib.

Earlier in September, the Syrian army units launched a preemptive strike on the terrorists of the so-called Aleppo Operations Room in their gathering centers near Castello road in the Northern areas of Aleppo and Mallah farms, foiling their plots to attack the region’s supply route, a source said.

The source said that the army’s artillery units attacked the terrorists’ gathering centers near Castello and Mallah farms in Zahra Abdo Rabbah, Kafar Hamra and Hurayatyn which killed and wounded dozens of militants.

Also, the Syrian air force attacked the terrorists’ supply route in Northern Aleppo towards Hayyan and Adnan as well as the supply roads in Western Aleppo towards the North and smashed the terrorists’ convoys in al-Aratab, Urom Kobra and Ma’ara al-Artiq which thwarted the terrorists’ plots and forced many of them flee towards the Turkish borders.

Informed media sources disclosed earlier that the Syrian army has continued its advances in the Southern part of Aleppo, and regained control over several strategic areas in the town of Khan Touman.

“A number of key warehouses of Khan Touman are now under the Syrian army’s control,” the Arabic-language media quoted an unnamed informed source as saying.

The source noted that the Syrian air force and army’s artillery units also targeted the gathering centers and fortifications of the terrorists in Khan Touman.

article claims russia has inserted its own militia (contractors or adventurers) into syria in eastern aleppo. not sure what is the intent. perhaps syria or iranian revolutionary fronts are paying their salaries. perhaps russia is paying but does not want in-uniform servicemen for various reasons like adverse publicity incase they take casualties.

there were claims that russian servicemen on sabbaticals were sent to serve in the ukraine donbass front militias who displayed extraordinary skill for just armed riflemen infantry in managing EW/artillery spotting/raiding etc :D

yes perhaps that is the reason. they have only ever worked closely with the tiger forces and to some extent with desert hawks and mostly hang out in palmyra front these days, spying and monitoring ISIS movements in the vast deserts and mountains north and east of palmyra. Russian airstrikes propel Syrian Army in Aleppo city (old Aleppo)

ALEPPO, SYRIA (7:15 A.M.) - Last night, the Russian Air Force carried out several airstrikes over Aleppo, landing a direct hit on a Jaysh Al-Fateh (Army of Conquest) weapons depot in the Bustan Al-Qasr District.

Following the airstrikes, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the jihadist defenses at the Old Aleppo District, inflicting severe damage to Fatah Halab's defenses.

Currently, the Syrian Armed Forces are attempting to advance in the Old Aleppo District, while their comrades in the south continue their push inside the 1070 Al-Hamdaniyah Housing Project.

Even in its best days Kuznetsov did not have 40 Su-xx . They will carry 10 Su-33 and 4 Mig-29K

More than the numbers the composition is interesting , Su-33 are now upgraded with SVP-24 system which is the latest Nav and Attack system and for the newer Mig-29K it will be like Baptism by Fire in Syria.

taking a leaf from massa, they ought to convert it to carry some 64 SAMs and use the rest of sponsons to carry a mix of subsonic and supersonic land attack weapons like kalibr , uran-ER and so on. the granit silos can surely be repurposed to carry some 3 kalibr each.

Isis launches suspected mustard gas attack on US and Iraqi troops
Officials say initial tests of the agent used reveal it to be ‘poorly weaponised’ and ‘ineffective’

Isis is suspected of launching a mustard gas attack on an air base where US and Iraqi troops operate.

According to US officials, the projectile was categorised as either an artillery shell or a rocket.
After landing at Qayyara air base near Mosul in northern Iraq, US troops tested the remains with an initial finding of sulfur mustard (mustard gas).

No US troops portrayed symptoms of exposure to mustard gas or were hurt in the attack.
According to CNN, one official said the mustard agent had a "low purity" and was "poorly weaponised", while another described it as "ineffective".

Mustard gas is not usually fatal, during the First World War only 5 per cent of people exposed died after receiving medical care, the Centre for the Disease Control and Protection (CDC) states.

It is a powerful irritant and blistering agent that damages the skin, eyes and the victim's breathing tract.

Normally, the symptoms can take up to 24 hours to appear with some more sensitive than others.

During its airborne campaign against Isis, US air strikes have hit a number of locations they believe were used as production sites for sulfur mustard.

Agree. Missile cruisers are the best solution when you need carrier striking power but can't afford the massive investment of building a dedicated battle group to protect the thing. Without a full CBG, AWACS, satellite support, etc ... without all that carriers are just big fat targets. Missile cruisers are more practical.

alternate reality field around these people:

The latest proposal by Secretary of State John Kerry involves grounding only Syrian and Russian airplanes  , Carter told Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-New Hampshire).

“There can be no question of grounding US aircraft” over Syria, he said, adding that US jets conduct their strikes “with exceptional precision… that no other country can match.8)

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) asked about what it would take for the US to impose a no-fly zone over Syria, using the phrase “control the airspace.”

“Right now… for us to control all of the airspace in Syria would require us to go to war against Syria and Russia,” Dunford replied, drawing a rebuke from committee chairman John McCain (R-Arizona), who argued a no-fly zone was possible without war.

Asked about the video of US-backed Syrian rebels insulting US Special Forces in Al-Rai and running them out of the northern Syrian town, Carter and Dunford shrugged it off.

READ MORE: ‘Crusaders! Infidels! Dogs! Get out!’ US-backed rebels force US commandos to leave Syrian town

A “very small minority took verbal action” against US troops, :-? said Dunford, who admitted he did not watch the video but had discussed it with US commanders. He said the incident was “irrelevant” because the US-backed forces and Turkey were making “great progress” along Syria’s northern border.

Al masdar news

DEIR EZZOR, SYRIA (10:50 A.M.) - The situation in Deir Ezzor is not in favor of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) at the moment, as the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) inches closer to the strategic military airport at the outskirts of the provincial capital.

On Wednesday night, the Islamic State terrorists managed to capture the Syrian Arab Army's last points at the Thardeh Mountains, leaving them within striking distance of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport's western perimeter for the first time in this war.

Making matters worse for the Syrian Arab Army at the Deir Ezzor Airport, the Islamic State's presence at the Thardeh Mountains has given them the geographic advantage in this battle because they are overlooking the government forces from the western flank.

ISIS has already launched a new assault on the Deir Ezzor Military Airport today, striking this strategic installation from both the western and southern flanks.

According to a military source inside the province, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAYF) has already conducted several sorties over the Thardeh Mountains in order to forestall the terrorists from reaching the western gates of the airport.

Clashes are still ongoing at the moment; however, the Syrian Arab Army has been able to repel all previous infiltration attempts.

DEIR EZZOR, SYRIA (3:00 A.M.) - The loss of Jabal Thardeh in western Deir Ezzor has proved to be a major thorn in the Syrian Arab Army's (SAA) side, as they find themselves under heavy attack at the strategic military airport.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) has taken advantage of the Syrian Arab Army's plight in Deir Ezzor by storming the military airport, applying pressure from two different flanks.

On Friday morning, the Islamic State stormed the western and southern flanks of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport; this resulted in a day-long battle that ended with the terrorist forces failing to advance at either axes.

Despite their failed advance on Friday, the Islamic State possesses the high ground near the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, which spells bad news for the Syrian Arab Army, if they are unable to quickly retake Jabal Thardeh.

Cnn

Washington (CNN)US and allied warplanes have sunk over 100 ISIS boats, destroying 65 of them in September alone, according to the international military coalition.

While Iraq is nearly entirely land-locked, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers that cross that country are navigable, and ISIS has been using watercraft for a variety of purposes, including transporting fighters and conducting improvised explosive attacks.\

The US-led anti-ISIS coalition provided CNN with video of a September 10 airstrike against an ISIS tactical unit aboard a boat near Bayji, Iraq.

Barges, skiffs and motorized watercraft have been observed operating along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers for the purpose of ferrying ISIS fighters and equipment across the rivers, Operation Inherent Resolve spokesperson Col. Joseph Scrocca told CNN, adding that it happens often when anti-ISIS Iraqi troops control the area's bridges. Coalition bombs have also targeted bridges used by ISIS, thereby further necessitating the terror group's reliance on boats.
"They have also been used by Daesh for waterborne improvised explosive device attacks," the spokesperson added, using another name for the terror group.
A US Apache attack helicopter in July destroyed one such waterborne IED, a boat full of explosives. The vessel was attempting to remove a newly built Iraqi bridge spanning the Tigris River, according to the US military.
"It destroyed the boat so it didn't go attack the bridge," US Army Col. Christopher Garver, a spokesman for the military coalition against ISIS, told reporters in August.
But while the US and its allies have been striking ISIS boats for months, the last few weeks have seen a major uptick in the number that have been sunk, with over 50 destroyed on September 16 and 14. Those strikes occurred near the towns of Qayyara and Sultan Abdallah, which lie along the Tigris River south of the ISIS-held city of Mosul.
Experts think that the increase in the rate of strikes is tied to the upcoming effort by the US and Iraq to retake Mosul, which military officials have said could start as early as October.
The Tigris River in Iraq
The Tigris River in Iraq
As part of its defensive efforts, "ISIS is going to try and move fighters up and down the river," retired US Navy Cdr. Chris Harmer told CNN.
Harmer thinks the US is attempting to scuttle the ISIS vessels in particular so that the group can't position its forces via the water. The Tigris River runs directly through the heart of Mosul, dividing Iraq's second-largest city in two.
He also called the boats an "easy target in terms of avoiding civilian casualties" for the US.
ISIS, he said, might try to destroy bridges to slow the Iraqi military's assault on Mosul, noting that "a speedboat with 1,000 kilograms of explosives going into a bridge" is a lot harder to defend against than a conventional IED that would have to be set by ISIS operatives on foot.
Historically control of the two rivers has been critical to Iraqi military campaigns. During World War I, the British used small armed river boats traveling up the Tigris and Euphrates in its campaign against the Ottoman Turks.
Harmer, now the senior naval analyst at the Institute for the Study of War in Washington, said that the Iraqi military had never really mastered riverine warfare -- fighting on the river -- making the coalition's support all the more essential.
And despite the large number of boats sunk, Harmer thinks ISIS may have no trouble seizing additional vessels from Iraqi fishermen, farmers and others who have used the river for thousands of years.
"There's always been a steady state of traffic flow on the river," Harmer said
