Leaders and polished politicians are frequently called masters of the art of spin. They use this ‘spin doctrine’ in debates and interviews to satisfy the viewers, all the while deflecting from the real questions being asked. Similarly, even second-tier politicians know that defensive body language like hand-wringing, arms folded across the chest, clenched fists or narrowed eyes should be avoided during interviews, so as to seem collected in their responses.

But perhaps Imran Khan is not a seasoned politician yet, or he simply is not good at being asked critical questions.

His recent interview to Zeinab Badawi, the host of the famous BBC show HARDtalk, proves this statement. Imran – the darling of the Pakistani media who is not accustomed to giving a genuine interview loaded with critical questions – seemed helpless during the show. On the other hand, Badawi was successful in highlighting that Imran and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are only limited to sloganeering.

To start off, Imran was asked why he is sure of his electoral win in the upcoming elections, as recent surveys still show the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ahead of the PTI and expected to win. He simply responded that surveys are never an accurate indicator for anyone winning the polls.

Fair enough.

However, while answering a question later regarding his party’s government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Imran referred to surveys which showed his party’s popularity in K-P – the same surveys which he earlier suggested offer no indication of reality on the ground.

This was not a one-off event; Imran appeared rather clueless in the entire interview. When Badawi suggested PTI’s manifesto is not different from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) or the PML-N, Imran had no logical argument to counter that. On being questioned regarding missing persons and human rights violations, Imran sounded ill-informed. Likewise, on a question asking why he lives in a 300-acre luxurious house and talks about the slums of Pakistan, Imran had no answer other than saying he acquired the Bani Gala through white money.

The most interesting part of the entire interview, however, was to see a flustered Imran struggle with answering Badawi’s questions regarding PTI’s performance in K-P. Quoting PPP leader Khursheed Shah’s statement, which questioned how a party that could not create a few thousand jobs in K-P during its five-year tenure would create 10 million jobs in the whole country, Badawi asked Imran to comment. Imran’s response – that being his political opponent Khursheed has to pass such remarks – was disheartening to watch.

After prompting him to talk about his party’s performance in K-P, Badawi asked Imran how many hospitals and schools were constructed, or clean drinking facilities provided during PTI’s tenure in K-P, if any at all. Imran’s response was that his party is “very popular” in K-P and will win the elections once again. He did his best to avoid answering the question, but as this was a BBC show, there was no hope of any pressure on the channel to not ask such “tough” questions.

This interview proved what some people in the country, particularly those who live in the province, have known for a while – PTI has nothing considerable to show for its performance in K-P. Imran may have celebrity charm in his favour and millions of devoted fans, but politics is not all about charm or blind followers. To get votes, one has to be able to claim some progress, and Imran has failed miserably on that front.

During PTI’s five years in government, Imran was busy bashing the PML-N and PPP and showing his love for street agitation. While his dharnas wasted the time, energy and resources of our nation, all to try and topple the PML-N government, it is evident through this interview that nothing was being done in K-P. After all, Imran could not claim having built a single university, or any significant improvement in hospitals, structural reforms, or infrastructural projects. His lack of response makes one doubt the veracity of the billion tsunami project, as well as the 350 dams that have allegedly been built but do not seem to exist.

In the entire interview, Imran could be seen getting defensive, and yet he remained unable to prove any single point in favour of PTI’s performance in K-P. On the contrary, his diversions from the questions and his U-turns from positions stated by him earlier on in the conversation (such as his contradictory response on the surveys), all showed that Imran still has a long way to go to learn the art of speaking rationally.

Perhaps Imran needs to realise he cannot grow in stature simply by declaring all his opponents to be dwarfs incapable of governing the country, especially when he cannot even govern a province. This interview has proved that apart from those who blindly follow him, the world has a clear view of the dismal performance the PTI has delivered thus far. Instead of simply making tall claims, it’s time for Mr Khan to do some real work. (He is not going to do any work as the Army/ISI is there to help him)

ISLAMABAD: A man killed a woman in Faisalabad late Saturday night. The woman’s family told the police that the suspect had long been pressuring her to marry him. CCTV camera footage of the killing has gone viral. The Mullahs are right . BAN SOCIAL MEDIA !!!

The murder happened earlier this week at Kohistan Daewoo Terminal. The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Mehwish. Her family registered a case with the Sargodha Road police station. The FIR says Mehwish worked for a bus company. The accused, Umar Daraz, had also worked for the company as a security guard for the company.Relatives of the deceased told the police that Mehwish often told them about a man named Umar Daraz, who would pressure her to marry him. On June 9, she had arrived at the terminal from Multan when the murder happened.

Paki Ayeshas, IMO, are in a "Catch 22" situation. On the one hand, they are "encouraged" by the Paki Women Empowerment Movement , to come out of their Purdah, and start working. ( for a bus company , as in this case !) On the other hand, they fall prey to these "disgusting Abduls" who immediately "fall in love with them on first sight", and then propose marriage Unislamically , IMO . As more and more Ayeshas start working, more and more of these kind of killings may happen . Solution : keep them under "Purdah" . Do not let them out !!!

Surprise ! Islamic Republic Of Pakistan, plagiarizes Republic Of India's "Code Of Election Conduct " As Well

ISLAMABAD: The Code of Conduct for general elections 2018 issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is almost a copy of the model code of conduct issued by Election Commission of India in 2014 except two basic differences and Indian code being more elaborative.

Both ‘codes of conduct’ talk about strictly following constitution, election laws and rules and guidelines, taking proper permission before any public rallies and processions and following procedure and observe decorum during election proceedings on the polling day. Both ‘codes of conduct’ strictly bar propagating or levelling unverified allegations or criticising personal lives of candidates.

Needless to say, Pakistan "openly violates" international copyright laws in this and other matters as well

Any violation of code conduct will be considered as illegal or corrupt practice. Under point 61 of the ECP’s code of conduct, any violation of code of conduct shall entail punitive action i.e. declaring an election void for corrupt/illegal practices.

Was under the impression that the Pakis , in keeping with their so - called Islamic credentials , have done away with English as their official language and as once "ordered" by Ganja, "everything" was supposed to be in " oordu"

The 2nd point of ECP’s code of conduct, comprising total 62 points, bars political parties and candidates from making any opinion which defames or brings into ridicule the judiciary or the armed forces. However, there is no mention of any bar on justified criticism on institutions in model code of conduct of India from which the Pakistani code of conduct is copied. Fair criticism is not prohibited in any part of the democratic world rather criticism on judgment of the judiciary is welcomed.

In Pakistan, the armed forces own the country, in India, it is the other way around !!!

Second basic and interesting difference between these two ‘codes of conduct’ is that Indian model code of conduct strictly bars distribution of liquor during campaign or on the polling day while the Pakistani code of conduct bans forwarding any kind of favour to voters during campaign or the election process.

In Pakistan, the "avenues" for corruption are very many, and hence the "broad definition" to cover that !!!. And of course, Sharab is obviously, illegal , IN THEORY ONLEE

ECP’s code of conduct has a very important Point-27 which strictly bans printing of pictures of government officials on any publicity or election material. Point-27 reads, “27- In no case the picture of government official shall be printed on any publicity material by any political party/candidate/election agent.” However, a political party has been continuously using pictures of heads of some institutions who are government servants and which is a blatant violation of ECP’s code of conduct. ECP has yet to move against this shameful violation.

Point 2 of the 2014 model code of conduct issued by Election Commission of India reads; “Criticism of other political parties, when made, shall be confined to their policies and programmes, past record and work. Parties and candidates shall refrain from criticism of all aspects of private life, not connected with the public activities of the leaders or workers of other parties. Criticism of other parties or their workers based on unverified allegations or distortion shall be avoided.”

Whereas the point 46 of 2018 code of conduct issued by the ECP reads, “46- Criticism of other political parties and opponent candidates shall be confined to their policies and programmes, past record and work. Parties and candidates shall refrain from criticism of any aspect of private life, not connected with the public activities of the leaders or workers of other parties. Criticism based on unverified allegations and distortion of facts shall be avoided.” Whereas the point 47 of ECP’ code of conduct reads, “47- The political parties, contesting candidates, election agents and their supporters shall refrain from deliberate dissemination of false and malicious information and shall not indulge in forgeries and disinformation to defame other political parties/leaders. The use of abusive language against the leaders and candidates shall be avoided at all costs.”

This "plagiarizing thing" thing is nothing new and unique for the Pakis . Their so -called scholars and "Ph.D's" ( like "Dr" Maheela Lodhi) are known to "wholesale" copy" thesis and research as if this was done through their "hard work"

Similarly, almost 80 percent of points in ECP’s 2018 code of conduct are taken from 2014 model code of conduct issued by Election Commission of India.

Being "Islamic Republic" should they not be looking - (west) towards Saudia for guidance in this connection . Why look ( East ) towards "Enemy India " !!!

Reham Khan’s story so far is of struggle and success, of self-proclaimed painful privacy and pronounced publicity — of struggle and pain in the United Kingdom, and success and publicity in Pakistan. She worked hard for years to be a public figure but now constantly preaches the virtues of privacy for public personalities. She is a self-proclaimed fighter but turns grumpy, if terms of contest are not to her liking.

Rewriting personal history with retrospective effect is a risky business, especially in the age of a demon known as the Internet. Damned is the information that self-registers once shared on social media and later found by nosy followers who then use it very unsociably. The World Wide Web remembers all its clients, willing or involuntary. Reham Khan is no exception.

Those who surf the Internet regularly by now know quite a lot about Reham Khan’s jumpy working life in the UK: she started her broadcasting ‘career’ in 2006 from a little known local television station in Middle England that provided legal advice to illegal immigrants or to overstaying foreign students desperately hanging on to menial jobs before being found by the British authorities and deported. Such channels pay pittance and employ rookies on short-term contracts. Employee turnover remains high there and mentioning the employer on a résumé is often considered a liability rather than an asset. Reham Khan’s case could have been an exception.

My first personal interaction with her was somewhere in 2007. She was looking for a job and I, as head of the European news operations of a leading Pakistani television channel, had one on offer. The job was not advertised but we were looking for a female reporter to fill a position that lay vacant after a staff member had resigned.

At that time, she was not a celebrity !

She came through a reference. “In her early thirties, recently divorced, mother of three, short of funds, lacks experience, desperate to work in media,” was the brief provided by the referee. The meeting was brief and did not leave an imprint apart from the fact that she sounded keen, was confident and was armed with an infectious smile. Her résumé was devoid of journalistic experience and the bureau that I headed was ill-equipped to offer on-job training to a candidate with no serious journalistic assignments on her resume but with high monetary expectations.

Many years later, when we happened to be together along with some media colleagues, for tea and snacks at Mansoora in Lahore – after Sirajul Haq took oath as Jamaat-e-Islami’s chief – Reham Khan denied ever visiting me at the channel’s office near the London Bridge.

For Asian audiences in the UK, her claim to fame was neither her broadcasting flamboyance at the Birmingham-based Legal TV; nor her move to an even smaller broadcasting operation, Sunshine Radio, in Hereford and Worcester, where she presented a breakfast show. In fact, it was her 14-second advertisement slot with Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan and, subsequently, a 30-second stint with Pakistani cricketing sizzler Shahid Afridi for a personal injury law firm, Claim Today Solicitors. Her personal account of her life in the UK may sound a mélange of myth, mystery and fairytale, but she was not the girl about town. She has struggled like many of us, as the UK can be a hazardous place in the absence of a steady income or a secure roof over one’s head. But she did not let the first divorce from her cousin, a psychiatrist, in 2005 overshadow her time in the country. After all, she was a “free spirit”, pretty much like a “Bedouin”, as she once said in her own words.

Before she left for Pakistan, she even tried her luck in a locally produced short film that failed to find a distributor. Her acting adventure was hardly known to anyone apart from those who have worked in the film, in which Reham Khan plays a carefree character egging her married friends to enjoy life rather than wasting time on family affairs. The film remained buried on tape even after she became an anchorperson in Pakistan.

And then, she got married to Imran Khan. The producers of the film wanted to recover their investment. So they invited prospective buyers for sneak previews. Sources claim that Geo Television succeeded in acquiring the film — not to broadcast, but to possibly use against Imran Khan who had been very vocal about the channel’s alleged support for Nawaz Sharif’s government. Producers claim they are yet to receive the agreed fee from Geo Television.

By her own account, however, life did take a turn for the better before she moved to Pakistan. She joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) South in 2008 as a broadcast journalist, after doing a few short courses in journalism from little known institutions and stayed with the broadcaster for four years. But she was hardly known to the BBC viewers, nationally. Maybe because it is a behemoth of an organisation with over 20,000 staff and a weathergirl on a regional feed would hardly make news.

Why did Reham Khan leave the BBC? Only she can tell. Friends and former colleagues within the news organisation remain clueless about the reasons of her departure. Her programme at Dawn News was meant to celebrate Pakistani heroes. That is where she won the heart of the most known hero of all times — at least for a few months.

The affair, the denial, the admission, the matrimony and the divorce — all point to the contradictions that have surrounded her ever since she filed for her first divorce in 2005. Only in her wildest dreams could she have envisioned her marriage to Imran Khan a decade after her divorce — and that she would be divorced again, in less than 10 months. Imran Khan’s family, friends and fans did not approve of the marriage and many believed it was destined for doom. They have been proven right.

Yet, it had been her own decision and it will be her own decision as to how long she plans to remain a story. The flippant remarks by those who regularly claim their closeness to her or Imran Khan in Pakistan and the UK suggest both could have been an ideal couple had their lives not been spied and pried on by the 24/7 media. “Because both vied for a constant public life, the two preach and practice different things; can live almost duplicitous lives. They work hard to hide past lives; both are divorced with children; they practice contrasting lives in Pakistan and the UK; both love making up stories,” is a summary by their friends of the reasons that led to their divorce. On Imran Khan’s side, these are people who have worked for his party and raised funds for his philanthropic endeavours. On Reham Khan’s side, these are her old friends from her carefree London days. And for obvious reasons, none of the “friends” on both sides that I spoke to are ready to be identified by their name.

The outgoing year that began with a bang for Reham Khan is coming to end with threats of legal suits against her from her first husband. Throughout the year, he has been threatening legal action against a Pakistani channel for airing her accusation against him of committing domestic violence. He is now said to be in talks with his lawyers to start defamation proceedings against her in a British court.

Meanwhile, she has managed to pick up a job as an anchorperson, this time with one of the recently launched but least watched channels in Pakistan. With her patchy employment track record, this too, may not last long. But then, she has spoken to the British media about “explosive” stuff contained in a “diary” that she maintained during her time spent with Pakistan’s most mercuric politician, whose stories still sell well in Britain. Threats of legal action by Jemima and her ex Doctor husband may make her think twice to publish her book in Bartania !

Sources working for a mainstream British media house claim to have met Reham Khan during her last visit to London. She is said to have demanded a hefty amount for divulging the details of her 10-month relationship with Imran Khan. The said media house thought her asking price was way above her story’s worth and has backed out for the moment. With a well-paid job in hand, Reham Khan does not seem to be in a hurry for now.

The suspect named Dr. Naveed Farooq, who has also been a member of the PTI in the past, is the nephew of PTI’s member from Rawalpindi Chaudhry Asghar, Geo News reported, adding that another uncle of Dr Farooq is also a member of PTI in London. Farooq was handed over to London police on Saturday after he was held by security at Harley Street Clinic when he tried to enter the intensive care unit (ICU).

*LAHORE: *Pakistani and Indian forces along the border did not exchange sweets on the occasion of Eidul Fitr in defiance of a long-held tradition over New Delhi’s continued ceasefire violations.

Accounts from the Working Boundary (WB) suggested that border authorities of the two countries resumed hostilities on the religious holiday after Indian soldiers had opened fire on unarmed civilians, targeting them with unprovoked shelling along the WB.

Indian forces regularly broke the ceasefire agreement on the border which has resulted in the martyrdom of many innocent people in recent months, and the exchange of sweets in this tense atmosphere was not appropriate.

Precedence for such an occurrence can be found in the past as well, especially on the Wagah Border. According to reports, the Pakistan Rangers were on duty and in their check-posts on the occasion of Eid, resolutely defiant and not willing to exchange pleasantries with the Indian soldiers.

Rangers team seizes ‘Indian weapons’ from MQM office

KARACHI: For the first time in the city’s recent history, a political party was directly and explicitly named for its involvement in violence. The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, blamed the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – not ‘unidentified suspects’ – for possessing Indian-made illegal weapons and one of its members for the killing of a public prosecutor.

On Tuesday, the paramilitary force raided the MQM Landhi office and seized an Indian-made light machine gun (LMG), submachine guns (SMGs) and rifles, said the Rangers spokesperson. They also found CCTV cameras, which the “criminals had installed to monitor law-enforcement agencies”.

The MQM denied that any Indian-made weapon was recovered from its office. In a press statement, the party demanded the president and the prime minister take notice of the matter.

The MQM is fighting a losing battle. Altaf Bhai in London is a "confirmed" RAA agent !

City police chief Shahid Hayat announced that the death of former Anti-Terrorism Court public prosecutor Naimat Ali Randhawa was a “politically motivated targeted killing.”

Speaking at a press conference at the Central Police Office on Tuesday, he said, “We have arrested an MQM activist, Syed Kazim Abbas Rizvi, along with three others who killed Randhawa because he was going to take up the case of slain television reporter Wali Babar Khan.” The murder was not sectarian in nature, he added.

Randhawa was shot dead on Thursday night. while he was on his way home. His son, Tauqeer Ali Randhawa, was also injured in the attack by armed motorcyclists.

Additional IG Hayat said the arrest was made with the hectic efforts of the police and Rangers. However, a police press release issued over Rizvi’s arrest stated that he was arrested after he was stopped in the Gizri area over suspicion. During the initial interrogation, Rizvi confessed to his involvement in the killing, the press release added. Besides Randhawa’s murder, Rizvi was also involved in seven more cases of targeted killings.

Anybody killing oppressive Pakjabi officials or police etc in Sind, Balochistan or KP province/ FATA is immediately labelled as "agent of India" by the Deep State !

Responding to a question, the Karachi police chief said the police have also traced the culprits who were behind the target killing of Wali Babar Khan’s eyewitness, Haider, and assured that they will be arrested soon.“We are conducting raids wherever we’re getting information about, be it Azizabad or Lyari,” he explained. “We have the support of all political parties as they are against the criminal elements within their parties.”

Meanwhile, a party leader told The Express Tribune that concerns regarding the operation had been conveyed to the federal government and they believed that the Sindh government was behind the targeted raids against them.

Nearly all Indian media outlets – from electronic and print media to social media – are giving coverage to an apparently “unusual development in the region” in which Pakistan is set to upgrade and advance its indigenous space programme which previously had limited quality advancements as compared to that of India, which has been engaged in active cooperation with the United States in order to enhance its satellite programme. In the recently announced annual budget, the Pakistani government has allocated a reasonable funding for our space programme in the current fiscal. After successful completion of the programme, Pakistan is likely to come at par in space technology as well.
But didn't Musharraf say in 2002 that "Pakistan’s space programme is now ahead of India after the formal launching of Paksat-I and this is due to the hard work of our scientists. I'm sure Indians will another 30 months to do the job."

Obviously the news of Pakistan’s more vibrant and advance space programme plan has sent shockwaves across India as the reports published in newspapers specifically mention that this programme is primarily aimed at keeping an eye on the Indian side of the border. The people of Pakistan, civil society, intelligentsia and political observers have expressed great satisfaction since for Pakistan, an advanced space programme was the need of the hour, not only for defence but also due to the growing demand for the civil communications, including the GPS, mobile telephone and the internet.

Pakistan is entering a new era of advancement. This will help reduce Pakistan’s dependence on foreign satellites which it needs to use for civil and military purposes. Earlier, Pakistan had been getting help from the US and France. Under the new indigenous space programme, Pakistan plans to initiate several projects to develop its self-reliance capacity while reducing dependence on foreign satellites.

LONDON: Doctors and the Sharif family were unable to come to a decision regarding the removal of ventilator support of Begum Kulsoom, the wife of former Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif, who was shifted to intensive care late Thursday after a cardiac arrest.

The ex-prime minister's wife has been admitted to the hospital, where she is on life support, since June 14 and is undergoing medical treatment. Recover or not recover, it does not matter. The total bill of the Hakims and the Haspataal will be a big shocker for the Sharif family ( by Paki Aam Abdul standards !). According to the advice of his wife's doctor, Nawaz, alongside his daughter, had postponed their return to the country, having reached London along with Maryam on Thursday to tend to Begum Kulsoom.The decision followed a two-hour meeting of Nawaz, Maryam, and Hussain with doctors at the Harley Street Clinic where Begum Kulsoom is admitted.

Did the Deep State, through their High Commission in London, ask Ganja to provide a medical report on the Begum's condition so as to confirm the extension of his "leave of absence" from the various trials that he is facing in Pakiland :

The doctors, however, said they could not provide a timeframe of the progress of Begum Kulsoom's health. They then advised Nawaz to spend time with his wife, the sources noted. Their initial plan was to return on Sunday. Sources said the counsels for Nawaz and Maryam, in this regard, would submit an exemption from appearance request in the accountability court of Islamabad, which is hearing corruption cases against them.

The accused's counsels would also submit Begum Kulsoom’s medical report and the doctor’s letter with the exemption request, the sources added. The medical report, as per sources, states that doctors have decided to keep Kulsoom Nawaz on the life support machine.

Further, on a special directive from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan, a group of leaders of his party also visited the hospital and offered sympathies.

Begum Kulsoom was admitted to hospital in London in August last year after doctors discovered she was suffering from throat cancer. She has been undergoing treatment since.

Bengalis of Karachi demand urgent resolution to identity problem

KARACHI: An overwhelming number of Karachi’s Bengali community remains out of the finalised electoral rolls for the general elections because they do not possess a CNIC, a prerequisite for being on the electoral rolls as per Elections Act 2017.The community, whose strength in Karachi is estimated to be around two million, has a sizable number of people who either do not possess a government-issued ID or their CNICs have been revoked on suspicion of being illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. Social and political activists belonging to the Bengali community of Karachi estimate this number to be around 1.2m.

Now that Pakistan is under the complete control of the Pakjabis, not only these Bengalis, but the Biharis also who migrated wholesale to Pakiland , from the erstwhile East Pakistan , once it became Bangladesh, are also not accepted as "genuine Pakis". They are still classed as "stateless . !!!

Three sisters — Ameena, Rukhsana, and Zareena — are among those of the Bengali community who remain without a CNIC despite their claimed eligibility.Residents of Zaman Town in Korangi, the sisters say that they have not been issued CNICs despite filing applications several times at the local Nadra centre in Korangi-4.

“The officers there tell us that Bengalis cannot get a CNIC. They ask us to prove that we were born here, and that our parents had been living in what was then West Pakistan before 1971,” says Zareena, who then shows their father’s employment cards and documents which demonstrate that the family has been living and working in Karachi prior to Dec 16, 1971.“We have provided all these documents but our identity card requests remain at a standstill,” she adds.

These class of people ( like the few Hindus left in Pakistan) are collateral damage from the still strained relationship between Pakistan and Bangladesh ( Bangladesh has accused Pakiland of stoking up Islamic fires there !) If relationship with Bangaldesh improves, their situation will improve !

Not bloody likely. No Bakistani political party will even think of legalising them and handing over millions of potential votes to their rivals. Dus-percenti will be guided by his Sindhi votebank who are dead against the existing "outsiders", forget about adding a million more. Pakjabi and Pashtoon parties have the same opinion.

That leaves MQM in its various splinter forms that are vying for the increasingly fractured Mohajir votebank. Some of them maybe tempted at the prospect of adding a million new votes to their kitty, but they may also be wary of the probable backlash such a move may provoke among their own "urdu-speaking" voters.

All in all these "Bengalis"- they include plenty of Rohingyas- are likely to stay in a limbo for the foreseeable future.
