Congress building a ‘Cross’ for Jagan
Congress launches whisper campaign in YSRC strongholds in an attempt to alienate a particular caste from Jagan Mohan Reddy
The Congress leaders are learnt to have worked out a scheme to ensure that the Reddy votes are no longer available to the YSR Congress leader Jagan Mohan Reddy. This strategy is to be implemented immediately.
There is a whisper campaign across the State, especially in Seemandhra, that the YSRC Chief cannot be considered a Reddy as he believes in Christianity.
The Congress leaders suggested to the Reddy leaders that Jagan not being from the community should be made public.
It was found from the Kovur constituency that Prasanna Kumar Reddy, the YSRC candidate won the election as the Reddys were behind him.The sizeable victory margin was possible as a Reddy representative rather than Jagan’s candidate. Taking this as a cue some senior Congress leaders want to deprive him the double benefit.
“YSR did not belong to any particular caste. He is above caste and creed. Before defaming Jagan the Congress leaders should know the caste and religion of their leaders,” retorted senior YSRC leader Bajireddy Goverdhan Reddy. He said that the Congress was unable to face the popularity of Jagan and now they want to use the caste card. This will make Jagan more popular and they will win all 18 seats and one parliament seat, he said.

Perfect pointer to the fate of the Pawarful "Clan" after the Pawarful one croaks his last.Where do we get water from, should we urinate in dams: Ajit Pawar
Pune: Politicians can be insensitive and bizarre at times. A blatant example of this is the latest comment made by Maharashtra's deputy Chief Minister who derided a two-month-long protest by a farmer who was demanding the release of water from a dam for his dry field.
In a statement that would shock many, the NCP leader was quoted as saying by an English news channel, “A person from Solapur is sitting on hunger strike for 55 days. He is asking to release water from dams to his field. There is no water in dams. What should we do? Should we urinate in the dams? There is no water to drink. So we cannot even urinate.”
In fact the Deputy Chief Minister did not stop there. Going further, he made another comment which would make many cringe, on the shortage of electricity supply. “I have come to know that the population is increasing in the state since there is a shortage of electricity in Maharashtra. What other work people have when the lights are off,” he said.
Ajit Pawar was speaking at a rally in Indapur, Pune on Saturday.

BJP leaders also a part of the deal
The heat of Italy’s helicopter scam seems to be hitting the BJP camp, too. It is believed that two party leaders, who are also the party spokespersons, have some interest in the Italian company’s competitors, and the both of them have a significant role to play in the matter coming to light and being played up. It is worth remembering that an entire caucus works together when it comes to the buying and selling in defence deals. Of them, a few are retired officials from the army, some politicians, businessman and Turks from the media. Former Army Chief V K Singh had indirectly pointed this out when he held the top army position. It is clear that a certain editor was also lobbying for a particular arms company. And when Singh did not give time to the editor for a meeting, the newspaper editor went against Singh.

Day of the turncoats: Inder Malhotra
No party is averse to welcoming political migratory birds. But the Congress takes the cake
In the unending wordy duel between Beni Prasad Verma, Union steel minister and Congress member of Parliament, and his one time "Netaji" Mulayam Singh Yadav, supreme leader of the Samajwadi Party that rules the country's most populous state, Uttar Pradesh, the latest is that the Congress leadership has reined in the recalcitrant steel minister from continuing his war of words with Yadav. At a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi's trouble-shooter, Janardan Dwivedi, the aggressive Verma has reportedly agreed not to malign Yadav, provided the latter "also observes restraint".
How this ugly episode pans out is of little concern to me. The event is important because it underscores a widespread feature of the Indian political scene about which the political class and even the public opinion appear unconcerned: the great power of the turncoats, deserters from one party that are welcomed by its rival with open arms. Verma is a classic example of this phenomenon.
For long years, he was Yadav's acknowledged number two, both in the SP and in the state government whenever the party was in power in Lucknow. Yadav's fondness for him had two reasons. First, in an era when the OBCs were rising to power, Verma was the most important leader of the Kurmis, and thus supplemented Yadav's enormous following among the Yadavs. Secondly, he never looked upon himself as "Netaji's" eventual successor. Yet, the breach between the two came when Yadav discerned that Verma was losing his hold on the Kurmis and started downgrading the now steel minister. After a stint in the wilderness, the ambitious Verma joined the Congress party and has since been a member of the Union council of ministers.
In this context, especially because the Congress-led UPA government cannot afford to lose the Samajwadi Party's "support from outside", despite Yadav's incorrigible habit to blow hot and cold in the same breath, the intriguing question that arises is: how can the steel minister afford to disregard the high command's directives?
After all, following his intemperate tirade against Yadav, Sonia Gandhi had walked up to Yadav with "folded hands" to apologise. The Congress party publicly apologised to the SP boss separately. But Verma refused to follow their lead. To express "regret" was as far as he would go. He didn't utter the word apology, and indeed launched another attack on Yadav, who is repeating his demand that the steel minister must be sacked. Could there be a more vivid display of the turncoat's clout to the point that even his new mentors are reluctant to push him beyond a point?
When asked why the Congress was treating Verma with kid gloves, a party leader replied, strictly on condition of anonymity, "We have no Kurmi leader worth the name in UP. We don't want him to turn his back on us, too". Interestingly, there are rumours that the steel minister wants to malign Yadav and team up with Mayawati. He emphatically denies this, of course. But who knows what kind of realignments might take place before the 2014 general election.
No party is averse to welcoming political migratory birds, but the Congress takes the cake in this respect. Verma is only one of a horde of defectors from other parties now flourishing in the Congress ranks. In the state of Maharashtra, where the Congress is in an uneasy coalition with the Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar, all the stormtroopers of the Congress are former leaders of the Shiv Sena, two of them former chief ministers of the state. All of them are holding high office. One of them, Narayan Rane, has staked his claim to be chief minister more than once. In Gujarat, the Congress has only two pillars to support its crumbling structure — Shankersinh Vaghela and Keshubhai Patel — who are both stalwarts of the RSS and the BJP. The list is illustrative, not exhaustive.
However, the case of Rashid Alvi deserves a mention. At one stage he had left the party in a huff to explore fresh pastures, first in the SP and then in Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party. Then he came back and was promptly made a party spokesman.
Probably the case of the redoubtable Pawar sums up the state of the Indian polity. Originally a staunch Congressman, he jettisoned his party in 1978 to become chief minister of Maharashtra with the support of the Janata Party then ruling in New Delhi. Rajiv Gandhi brought him back into the Congress in 1987. Later, he revolted against Sonia Gandhi's leadership with the slogan "Raj karega hindustani (An Indian will be in charge)". Since 2004, he and the Congress have been coalition partners in both Delhi and Mumbai.

Kashmir policy dictated by spy agencies, says Jairam Ramesh
Prasad Nichenametla, Hindustan Times New Delhi, April 08, 2013
First Published: 00:31 IST(8/4/2013) | Last Updated: 03:00 IST(8/4/2013)
Spy agencies are dictating India’s Kashmir policy and the Centre isn’t sensitive enough to the aspirations of the state’s people, Union minister Jairam Ramesh has said.
At the end of a two-day trip to the Valley, the first by a central minister from outside the state following Afzal Guru’s hanging in February, Ramesh said Kashmir had come a long way from its troubled past and the time was now ripe for good politics and growth “What Kashmir needs is the right political engagement, not a strategy influenced by spy and security agencies. It’s the political vacuum that allowed the growth of militant, secessionist groups.”
“Kashmir is transforming but has India changed its mindset towards it? We are not showing enough sensitivity to Kashmiris, who suffer suspicion and humiliation in our cities. India should respect their culture and embrace them whole-heartedly,” he said.
During the two days (Friday and Saturday) he was there, Ramesh pitched two ambitious projects for the state — ‘Umeed’, which encourages rural women to become entrepreneurs, and ‘Himayat’, through which the youth can acquire skills and be a part of the country’s progress. He also fit in a visit to Guru’s hometown of Sopore.
Ramesh told reporters accompanying him that the central government must be visible in Kashmir through its development activities. He said successive governments had adopted policies to maintain status quo in the region and cautioned against what he called 'BJP mark politics' that could further alienate Kashmiris.
"The BJP brand of hyper-nationalism would hurt Kashmir's mainstreaming with India. The chest-thumping 'I-am-Indian' kind of patriotism would not work here."
![]()
Citing successful local elections with high voter turnout and booming tourism with over six lakh visitors annually, the minister said the situation in Kashmir was conducive to a major development push.
This was Ramesh's seventh visit to the Valley since he took over as rural development minister in July 2011.

LKA has to understand that what ever he is saying will be twisted by paid media. I guess BJP leadership never understood that paid media and other establishment forces will never accept BJP or any non INC claim for power at Delhi. This is given. BJP leaders should treat them as enimies. The attack on Nitish Gatkari was well organised by media and he fell. Falure to understand that English media demands for the head of Yaddi should be taken not so seriously and failure to manage Yaddi may have already lost BJP, Karnataka state gvoernament.

It is as simple as that. Yeddi should have played it cool instead of fighting with BJP.

In any case BJP needs to be supported to send a message. Modi or no Modi -- at this point of time, BJP needs to be supported if only as simple anti congress-ism. Rest of the debate is for other times.

Isn't this one of the the main hurdles for the BJP come the elections?
I mean how are they meant to compete with Congress given the latters endless supply of money from big business. As Mukesh Ambani said ' Congress To Ab Apni Dukaan Hai'.
Modi will create an efficient, fair and unprejudiced environment for companies to do business in but is this really what they want given the status quo (ministers at their beck and call) is so advantageous to them?
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Well big business is clever. They give money to both parties. According to last count INC had 2000 crores and BJP 1000 crores. A lot of small businessmen give to BJP which is why the left keeps shouting "baniya party". I guess BJP makes up for less money with cadre which INC lacks. It could also be cyclical i.e. they give more to Govt. party for obvious reasons.

The Queen Bee wants all the worker bees to bring the hone to Bee Hive at 10,Jan path. The Karnataka [ Images ] high court on Monday sought an explanation from the Indian National Congress for collecting Rs 10,000 as party fund from its members who are aspiring candidates.
The HC bench issued notices to the Election Commission of India [ Images ], All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi [ Images ] and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara.
The petition filed by Shashidhar, a member of the Congress, sought a direction from the Election Commission to frame guidelines for preventing collection of such funds by political parties. The petitioner also sought a direction to conduct probe by an independent agency into the collection of funds.
The petitioner said he was an aspirant and added that he was asked to contribute Rs 10,000 for the party fund. Moreover, there were 2,500 such aspirants from whom Rs 10,000 each was collected, he pointed out.
The collection of funds from party members towards Assembly elections was contrary to the constitution of the Congress Party, the petitioner alleged.
