Germany: One of Europe's Largest Hindu Temples Opens in Berlin
June 8, 2026

After 21 years of community effort, Berlin's Sri Ganesha Temple has officially opened, marking a major milestone for Germany's Hindu community. Following five days of celebrations, the 17-metre-tall temple near Hasenheide Park welcomed devotees and visitors. Built entirely through donations and voluntary service, the temple is now one of Europe's largest Hindu temples. Featuring black granite sourced from Tamil Nadu and hand-carved by Indian artisans, the landmark blends Indian heritage with Berlin's multicultural identity. The opening concluded with a special consecration ceremony using water from both the Ganges and Berlin, symbolically linking India and Germany through faith and culture.
