if saudi arabia were a hindu radicalized country, would you have been able to say the same thing. Preachers from Saudi Arabia would be in India preaching how ancient hinduism was full of warriors who extinguished their enemies brutally. How non-veg muslims are not equal humans, how xtians are munafiqeen, only smarthas are good and even madhwas are mushriq.

now that its consensus that ISIS will not be any part of the end-game on the syrian chessboard perhaps its time for the Qa Khan to depute some of its mighty F-15E wings to jordan and iraq to expedite the lords work. a few B1's too for mass effect.

The US and Turkey intend to shut off Turkey’s border with Syria in a joint military operation, US Secretary of State John Kerry said.
"The entire border of northern Syria - 75 percent of it has now been shut off. And we are entering an operation with the Turks to shut off the other remaining 98 kilometers," Kerry said in an interview with CNN.

Series of strikes all over west by ISIS until Obama is forced to put boots on ground. So that SAA advance is blocked and Kurds can take over areas occupied by ISIS. Since the Kurd areas are the ones that are significant for the oil pipeline between Qatar-Turkey.

To be realistic saa has the manpower with Iran and Hezbollah help to clean the Aleppo region and then homs and hama.but not the resources to invade raqqa and its hinterland..not with half the army gone. The Iraqi militias have made no major progress in anbar.

Which leaves only a few Sunni tribes brutalized by the isis earlier, the ypg and Iraqi peshmerga..but the peshmerga have to contend with taking mosul and baiji first before they can even think of helping in Syria.

IMO bottle up isis in anbar towns using shia militia and launch a bypass attack using regular Iraqi army on raqqa from south and ypg nd tribes from.north.

Syria Turkey border is like 822 kms. So 720 kms have been taken over by USA which does not have any boots on ground. So it is entirely Turk operation. And Russians are quiet about this. If this is genuinely only on the Turkish side, then.

1. it is an effort to bump off whoever ISIS remains in Syria, so that tongues may not wag at later date and nobody rats out on their sponsors.

2. Or it is a big land grab, before the big 4 (IRGC+Hezb+SAA+Rus) coalition can occupy this land.

if the core ISIS is the ex baathist saddam army infused with some sunni clerical nutters and reinforced with gast-terroristen from chechnya, etc., then it seems to me that the former group will quickly seek a political solution when one is on the table. the nutters and gast-terroristen will go down in a flaming blaze of djinn theatrics on the express way to jannat

Long-range bombers to fly anti-ISIS missions from Russia, Putin orders Navy to work with France

Published time: 17 Nov, 2015 14:23
Edited time: 17 Nov, 2015 15:09

Russia has deployed its fleet of strategic bombers to double the volume of airstrikes on Islamist targets in Syria, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has announced. Vladimir Putin has ordered a cruiser to coordinate operations with French naval forces in the Mediterranean.

“We are conducting a mass airstrike campaign against Islamic State targets in Syria. We have now doubled the number of sorties, which is allowing us to conduct operations throughout the length and breadth of the country,” Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said during a Security Council meeting in Moscow chaired by the Russian president.

Shoigu said that Russia’s Tu-95, Tu-22 and Tu-160 strategic bombers have been brought into the operation, while the Air Force command added that the strike group has been bolstered with 37 new planes, including Su-34 bombers and Su-27 fighter jets.

The head of the General Staff reported that the new phase of the anti-ISIS campaign will involve 25 long-range bombers flying out of airfields in Russia.

Knowing the rus if they see those 1000 oil trucks they will use thermobarics and incendiary and clean the damn field..no polite exchange of insurance info.

i am willing to bet that sheikh-al-sockeye told emir-kerri-ud-din that 'just give us a few weeks, we'll get assad out of they way with these daesh morons and then we'll get them back to the barracks and you can slaughter the chechens on prime time tv and everyone will be khush and we'll have stuck one in the eye of tsar putinovitch and all vill be vell...

kerry would have sold that to obama and urged pentagon to stand back

reminds me of a tale from a long ago war where even a british sailor realised that beating the turks in a particular battle in the balkans was really a poke in the tsar's eye and commented as such to the passing afsar (in whose memoirs the tale got written)

During a massive airstrike today, 14 important ISIL targets were destroyed by 34 air-launched cruise missiles. The targets destroyed include command posts that were used to coordinate ISIL activities in the provinces of Idlib and Aleppo, munition and supply depots in the northwestern part of Syria,” Gerasimov said.
Russian Air Forces will be strengthened with advanced 37 aircraft, including eight Su-34 bomber jets and four Su-27 fighter jets, Gerasimov noted.
"The Russian General Staff has developed a new plan of the air campaign [in Syria] which envisions deployment of 25 strategic bombers, eight Su-34 Fullback attack aircraft, and four Su-27 Flanker fighter jets," Army General Valery Gerasimov said.
Syrian army with the assistance of the Russian aviation managed to liberate 80 towns and regain control of the territory more than 500 square kilometers.

"In the Northern Syrian Province of Aleppo Syrian Army liberated 40 towns. Government troops deblocked Kweiris airbase and continue to expand security zone near the airport," Gerasimov added.
Ten imagery and signals intelligence spacecraft were deployed in order to improve the space intelligence capabilities in Syria, Russian General Staff chief Gen. Gerasimov said.
“Ten satellites are deployed. By redirecting several spacecraft and adjusting their orbit we now can photograph Syrian territory at required intervals,” he said.
The Islamic State militant’s ability to illegally export energy resources was severely hampered by Russian airstrikes, chief of Russian General Staff General Valery Gerasimov said.

"Several elements of the enemy infrastructure, including two fuel tanker truck columns, were destroyed by Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft, which resulted in “a severe decrease in militants’ ability to illegally export energy resources," Gerasimov said Tuesday during a report to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin at the National Defense Control Center.
Russian warplanes have destroyed 140 ISIL targets in Syria, Sergey Shoigu said. The number of sorties doubled, Shoigu added.
"The number of sorties was increased two times which allows us to launch powerful precision strikes against ISIL militants deep within the Syrian territory," the Russian Defense Minister said while briefeng the president on Syrian operation in the Russian National Defense Control Center.
Strategic bombers Tu-160, Tu-95MC and Tu-22 are involved in the Russian operation in Syria, the Russian Defense Minister said.
"Tu-160, Tu-95MC and Tu-22 strategic bombers with standard strike aircraft are involved in destroying of terrorist targets in Syria," Shoigu said.

Twelve Russian bomber jets Tu-22M3 have hit ISIL targets in the Syrian provinces of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, Shoingu said.
“Today, from 2:00 till 2:30 GMT, twelve Tu-22M3 long-range bomber aircraft carried out strikes against ISIL targets in the provinces of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor,” Shoigu said.
Russia will continue massive airstrikes on terrorist targets in Syria. Russia's actions in Syria made it possible for Syrian army to begin an offensive against terrorists.
Russian warplanes launched airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIL) and other militant groups at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad on September 30.
Since the beginning of the air campaign, Russian Aerospace Forces have carried out around 1,800 sorties, destroying some 2,700 terrorist targets, according to the General Staff. Several hundreds of militants have been killed, and dozens of command centers and depots have been destroyed.

The Russian president has issued orders for Russia’s Moskva cruiser, covering the Russian base in Latakia from the Mediterranean Sea, to work together with a French naval group led by flagship Charles De Gaulle, a 26 fighter-jet aircraft carrier, which is departing for Syria this week.

“The French naval group, led by the air carrier, will soon reach your area of operations. We need to establish direct contact with it, and treat it as an ally,” the Russian president said. “We need to develop of a joint action plan for both sea and air operations.”

The Kremlin said that the parameters for a joint mission had been agreed upon by Putin and French President Francois Hollande, following a personal phone call.

“The two leaders focused their attention on bilateral and multilateral cooperation in combating terrorism,” a Kremlin statement said. “This includes closer ties and joint operations between the military command and intelligence services of Russia and France in Syria.”

Vladimir Putin and Francois Hollande are to meet in Moscow on November 26.

Putin is becoming a continent size troll.... First he steals the whole "a few cruise missiles + 100s of questionably effective sorties in front of gullible Marriot-lobby TV journalists" routine of NATO and now he is copycatting a new treaty org called METO with France as a co-founder?

france has invoked article 5 today.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/defense-min ... 1447751266

BRUSSELS—European defense ministers backed France’s request to trigger the bloc’s mutual defense clause on Tuesday, opening the way for assistance to help France boost security at home and reinforce its operations overseas.

French President François Hollande on Monday requested the trigger of the European Union treaty’s self-defense clause, which commits governments to help a member state which is “the victim of armed aggression.”

The clause has never been invoked before and EU officials were scrambling on Monday evening to work through procedures for triggering it and to define what kind of assistance it can provide.

“Each country has said I am going to help, I am going to assist,” said Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Defense Minister after discussing his country’s request with his EU colleagues on Tuesday morning.

Complete defeat of ISIS is a terribly bad outcome. IMHO, there should be balance of power in the god forsaken lands. Continuous and regular violence between two groups neither of which can completely defeat the other. Should depopulate the region.

Russia involves 10 reconnaissance satellites in Syria operation — General Staff

http://tass.ru/en/science/837273
MOSCOW, November 17. /TASS/. Russia has involved ten reconnaissance satellites to provide support for its operation against terrorists in Syria, Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov said on Tuesday.

"Efforts continue to enhance satellite-based reconnaissance for the Middle East region," he reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Ten imagery and electronic warfare reconnaissance satellites, including civilian-use spacecraft, have been involved in reconnaissance," he said.

"Measures have been taken to redirect and correct the orbits of some satellites to ensure surveying of the territory of Syria with the required periodicity," Gerasimov said.

Russian strategic bombers, Tu-95MS and Tu-160, took part in the Syria operation. According to the account of the operation given to the president by the military , the operation so far involved 5 Tu-160 bombers and 6 Tu-95MS (based in Engels), as well as 14 Tu-22M3 (based in Mozdok). The bombers (probably only Tu-160 and Tu-95) are said to have launched 34 long-range cruise missiles.
