Even in 2009 we won from Western UP. This is the area where Muslims are almost 25 to 40 percent in many seats and in some seats greater than 50%. In the end in this region folks vote on religious lines more than caste lines.

PRAYAGRAJ: Congressmen turn beggars, sounds weird. But it’s true that a group of Congress workers on Friday assembled outside the Abdullah mosque at Katju road and sought votes for the party candidate Tasleemuddin contesting from Allahabad West assembly segment.

For perspective Western UP is Phase I and Phase II.
In 2017 BJP got 53/58 and 40/55 here.
IOW 93/113.
In 2022 already BJP will get minimum 50/58.
Tomorrow we can estimate how many out of 55 will BJP get?
Taking balance of probabilities due to changing alliances and voter shift I expect 38 to 42.

On what basis these exfarts predict their numbers?

Consistent low voter turnout in UP, 2nd phase voting ends with 60.6%. In Goa it was over 72% and Uttarakhand had a abysmal voter turnout of 59%.

For 5 long years, Yogi/Modi sweat it out for them and 40% of the people sit it out when a couple of hours is what it takes for them to make their voice heard. Pretty sure that if we do an analysis of % of eligible Hindus who voted (vs) that of Muslims, the latter will be a far greater percentage

It was a tough first 2 poll sessions for BJP but so far, by all accounts, they have managed to create a solid base for real fight in central, east and bundelkhand. This is where they will be able to gain over the opposition.

Arun Gupta on Twitter quotes Satta Bazar estimates after the second round polling as BJP 85/113.
If so compare to 93/113 in 2017.
Can be explained as Yadav+Muslim consolidation and BSP shifting.

Why did they try this stunt in the first place? The muslim vote must have been already highly polarized. The marginal gains must have been very less.
