Musharraf on the run after bail cancellation

ISLAMABAD: General (retd) Pervez Musharraf on Thursday escaped from the premises of the Islamabad High Court after the cancellation of his bail application by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui in the judges detention case.

Immediately after the bail cancellation, police tried to reach the former military ruler but he was escorted by his personal security, fleeing in his bullet-proof black four-wheeler.

Musharraf had arrived at the IHC for the hearing and a large contingent of police and Rangers personnel was stationed at the court’s premises for security purposes.

Earlier last week, the former military ruler was granted a six-day interim bail after he surrendered before the court in the judges’ detention case in which he had been declared a proclaimed offender.

The case is based on an FIR against the retired general registered in August 11, 2009 on the complaint of Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam Ghumman advocate.

He had asked the police to initiate legal proceedings against Musharraf for detaining over 60 judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, after proclamation of a state of emergency in the country on November 3, 2007.

I think Paki kangaroo court will conveniently keep him under "house" arrest due to "security" concerns of keeping in jail.

I still feel, Mushrador return had US backing, but now for safe escape from Pakhana he may not find Khanate help as he will be of no use out of country.

Sour Notes at the Nuclear High Table - Seema Sirohi & Abhijit-Iyer Mitra, The Hindu
Excerpts
India appears to have successfully climbed into the category of a nuclear “have,” overcoming the divisions enshrined in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and enforced fervently by its adherents. Although not publicly acknowledged, India’s entry is the de facto reality and irreversible.

Nowhere was this more evident than at the recent Carnegie International Nuclear Policy Conference (April 8-9, 2013, at the Ronald Reagan Building International Trade Center, Washington D.C.) attended by more than 800 experts from around the world. Being the premier event of all things nuclear, the forum has long been the bastion of what Indian policymakers like to call the “nuclear ayatollahs” — those who obsessively pursue the NPT’s non-proliferation goals to the exclusion of almost everything else, especially disarmament.
Pakistan’s case

Unsurprisingly, India’s new status rankles Pakistan no end. Its team of more than 20 official and quasi official spokespersons raised objections against India in almost every panel at the conference. They demanded parity and a nuclear deal similar to the one the U.S. pushed through for India. Maleeha Lodhi, a former Pakistani Ambassador, said if Pakistan doesn’t get “equal treatment,” it would continue building nuclear stockpiles — a move that already has the nuclear community on edge.

Pakistan’s gripe is understandable — to a degree. Like India, it never signed the NPT and technically breached no undertaking by going nuclear. But its record on non-proliferation has been bad. The A.Q. Khan affair and his nuclear supply lines are and will remain a blot. So when Pakistani delegates tried to find analogies between their dilemma and every extant nuclear problem, they got a polite silence.

When M.J. Chung, a prominent member of South Korea’s National Assembly, provocatively advocated his country’s right to leave the NPT and build bombs in response to North Korean threats, a Pakistani delegate promptly equated India’s behaviour with North Korea’s. She demanded to know why South Korea wasn’t sympathetic to Pakistan’s case since her country had also tested the nuclear bomb in reaction to India.

When an Iranian attendee asked a panel why Iran was being targeted when, in fact, a Talibanized Pakistan was the main nuclear threat, a Pakistani countered that Maoists were a “bigger threat” to Indian nuclear reactors than al-Qaeda and Taliban were to Pakistani installations. The effect was often comical, sparking sniggers. If the idea was to drag India through the mud, no matter how disingenuous the argument, it failed. It only helped relegate Pakistan further to the margins.

The question is who were those 'bodyguards' who whisked him away ? TSPA ? It would be interesting to see TSPA's reaction. Just last year, it went out of its way to re-try two Lt. Gen.s under court-martial for corruption who otherwise would have ended in a civilian court. This after the two Generals had even retired. They were eventually found not guilty by the general Court Martial and escaped a court trial and punishment.

Obviously, the two Generals would have opened up and implicated several others perhaps the COAS himself. In the case of Musharraf, his counsel had already indicated to the Supreme Court how they would proceed, bring in the current COAS, all ex-Corps commanders, ISI Chiefs etc. We should therefore have interesting moments any which way. Pakistan is entertainment centre par excellence.

Over-confidence and zero IQ has been the hall-mark of Paki Generals! I think the US should send a few drones to film the car chase!

BRF has been advising Mushy to go underground!

I guess when Musharraf organized that "Follow Musharraf to Pakistan Event" and people had paid for it, he couldn't backtrack anymore. Mushy sold his head for a handful of dollars!

Run Gola Run! :rotfl:

May be he should now organize "Follow Musharraf on his run from the courts" and take some more money!

Here we were thinking we will have some fun on BRF for years to come with Mushy again in some power, and instead Mushy ne hamare armaanon par sab gobar kar diya! :((

If Mushy now takes US help to exit the country, basically his reputation would be so finished and in swine piss, that he is useless of the US.

The only place safe for him in Pakistan is either the US Embassy and he can clean the toilets there to make himself useful, or in jail hoping that the jailer is not some Red Mosque graduate.

Otherwise he is like a Begum running naked in the streets of Karachi. Everybody and anybody can jump on him.

You guys are lousy analysts and worse commentators. In reality Musharraf's so called retreat from the High Courts was in fact a glorious victory, exactly like Kargil.

a. In Kargil Musharraf successfully internationalized the plight of Kashmiris; today Mushaffar has successfully internationalized the plight of his musharraf.

b. Kargil gave a bloody blow to the kuffar Indian Army, here Musharraf has dealt a mortal blow to un- Islamic institutions such as 'High Courts',

c. There was no retreat at Kargil, PA only attacked in a backwards direction. Same here, onlee.

d. In Kargil Musharraf still holds Point 53352201r2d2, today dear Musharraf still holds the Chak Shazad Farm house.

Musharraf hints at tensions between state pillars

Separate charges against Musharraf for downhill skiing from the court

Ironically, the Islamabad High Court was established by the Kamndu himself against opposition from the Lahore High Court. The idea was to have court nearby which can be influenced. In Pakistan, every decision by a PM or a COAS or a dictator comes back to haunt him later on. That is the curse of All'ah on Pakistan.
