I think the Pakis were testing to max range with maybe a reduced payload and it broke up. The structure can handle only so much g and aero loads.

So goodbye to qhwabs of nuking Hyderabad, Deccan.
Yes they have never tested ghauri to its paper max range which would need a arabian sea shot. They tried to simulate that with a high angle pad target type shot after reading reports of our bmd tests and just found out its a no can do :((

An Usman Ansari writing in Defense News reports that the Ghauri / Hatf V ballistic missile test of November 28, 2012 was a failure, a fact that is being covered up the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s military.

Also reports that the first 1998 test of the Ghauri aka Hatf V was a failure that led to a missile breakup with debris falling in Iran:

Shias and their future in Pakistan

IF the state is unable to opt out of Jihadist policies (no more “good jihadis” in Kashmir and Afghanistan and “bad jihadis” within Pakistan) then what? I don’t think even the strategists who want this outcome have thought it through. The economic and political consequences will be horrendous and as conditions deteriorate the weak, corrupt, semi-democratic state will have to give way to a Sunni “purity coup”. Though this may briefly stabilize matters it will eventually end with terrible regional war and the likely breakup of Pakistan. . Since that is a choice that almost no one wants (not India, not the US, not China, though perhaps Afghanistan wouldn’t mind) there will surely be a great deal of multinational effort to prevent such an eventuality.
Hmm. Just look at the logic here.

IF the Pakistani stet (Army/ISI) does not fight Jihad, then the fight will move into the hands of India, US and China who will try to prevent this from happening.

The author of this article is wrong because the Pakistani army is already doing this. The logic is that if they make it appear that they are losing to the jihadis in Pakistan, the US, India and China, out of fear, will help the army and ISI keep on fighting jihadis in Pakistan. This is already happening.

The US is already helping the ISI/Pakistani army. India is helping indirectly by winding up opposition and giving terrorist visas and Pakistan ordnance factories power . All that remains is for China to openly break with the Nuclear Suppliers Group and MTCR so that the Pakistani state does not have to overspend on nukes and missiles.

I am hoping that Islam will triumph despite all the help that the Pakistani army is getting from the USA and India. Inshallah a Sunni state will rise in Pakistan and spread the light to islam to the US, India and China

According to documents available to Dawn, in 2009 as many as 4.3 million people left the country illegally. In 2010, the number reached 4.5 million touching the five million mark in 2011.
Holy crap!! The barbarians are no longer at the walls. They are within and among us.

Shias and their future in Pakistan
So where will this end? Prediction is where the Pundit rubber meets the road, so here goes:

The state will make a genuine effort to stop this madness. Shias are still not seen as outsiders by most educated Pakistani Sunnis. When middle class Pakistanis say “this cannot be the work of a Muslim” they are being sincere, even if they are not being accurate.

But as the state makes a greater effort to rein in the most hardcore Sunni militants, it will be forced to confront the “good jihadis” of yore who are frequently linked to the same networks. This confrontation will eventually happen, but between now and “eventually” lies much confusion and bloodshed.
Ah so the "The state will make a genuine effort to stop this madness. Shias are still not seen as outsiders by most educated Pakistani Sunnis". Let me give you an example
Armed rioters from outside entered the Gilgit environs. Eleven villages around town were torched, their wooden structures burnt to ashes and valuable goods looted. Around 40 persons were killed. It was clear to the Gilgit civil administration that the raiders, who were tribals and mujahideen elements, could not have reached this remote place from Peshawar without someone’s blessing. The Frontier Constabulary, whose checkposts dot the Swat-Besham road and the Besham-Gilgit highway, did not act to intercept the raiders
When do you think that happened? In 1988! Pakistanis have been massacring Shias since the 80's and the state is yet to confront the sunni Jihadis. Pakis will never confront them, shias will continue to get murdered. The affluent will flee, the rest will slowly be killed off. Like Hindus, Christians and Ahmadis.

BTW did you see the "armed rioters" and "raiders" ? The same words were used to describe "phreedom phyting mujahideen" who attacked JK in 1948.

RAPE strutting their Track-II, Aman ki Asha nonsense in South Block.

At 9:28 The shameless foreign minister of India giving Green Signal to Pakistanis that they can create more 26/11's and the GOI will continue the Dialogue/Aman Ki Asha nonsense. Hajam Sethi was apprehensive that pakistan will loose out on Indian largesse should another incident happen. Khurshid gave guarantee that it would not be so.
At 13:35, They get an assurance that the Indian Sell-out under Track-II would continue.
At 16:28, Hajam says Pakistan always wanted to take up Kashmir Masla first and it was India which wanted increased trade, More People to People contacts and Liberalized Visa Regime, now that everything has happened as per India wishes when will the wish of pakistan people - Kashmir Issue be taken up? (This is a beauty - after extracting all the concessions of more visa's and denying the obligatory MFN to India by going back on its promise it is claiming India wanted this and has got all the advantages and now India should reciprocate by taking up kashmir!!!!!)
At 19:37 Kamran Khan says that since the present administration Pakistan is going to complete the 5 years term and there is consensus in Pakustan for betetr relationship with India, is India Psychologically prepared for better relations with India and what can pakistan expect in return.

In the post interview analysis:

32: 25 onwards, Najam Sethi :(( that the Indians want to concentrate only on Commerce and the low hanging fruit of Siachen (he used those words)is still not with pakistan. He also says that there are just 1.5 yrs of the Manmohan singh term left and Siachen and Sir Creek not being discussed. Kamran Khan admitting that we in pakistan thought in India whatever the Politicians will say the Military would salute and agree is not true :(( . He literally said that we can pluck the low hanging fruit but have to take the Indian military in confidence (Hence the Sponsored Tarck II tamasha with the Jaichands). Hajam Sethi :(( that Indian Military is now also making chinese factor a part of Siachen issue and giving it a more strategic spinn, Pakistan gave Commerce and People to People contacts to India and india should in return give pakistan Do Cheez (Siachen and Sir Creek)
We have given big concession to India by promoting commerce, Salman Khurshid being Muslim has to be extra cautious or he can be blamed for being partial. Mumbai ab purana kissa hai and India should have come out of it by 2009!!!!!

Taliban in Karachi - Op Ed in DT
The author, a Pashtun himself, tries to argue that the Taliban pose no threat to Krachi. So, all power to the Taliban, good or bad, in Krachi.
There may be Taliban and their sympathisers in Karachi as they are in other parts of Pakistan — thanks to the state policy of looking the other way — but there is no danger of Talibanisation of Karachi. By holding the Taliban responsible for the worsening law and order situation in Karachi, the ruling parties are in fact hiding their failure to capture criminals. The ANP perceives it as a ploy to target the Pashtun population in the city. The harping on the theme of Talibanisation or Taliban in Karachi would further widen the gulf between the main stakeholders in Karachi. (That is, don't hold us, Taliban, responsible for violence if you continue to refer to our presence in Krachi. We will be justifid in hitting you hard if you do so} This would seriously undermine the efforts to restore peace in the city as what is needed is not a blame game but mutual trust and cooperation among all those who have a stake in peace and tranquillity in Karachi.

I think we should not deprive Mr. Man Mohan Singh of that glorious decision to make peace between India and TSP, "uninterrupted and uninterruptible". Pujya Shri Mani Shankar Ayyar had been mouthing that for a while, before it was made an official GoI policy, which meant that the decision came from INC President. For her, the orders came from the US. Poor, Salman Kurshid is after all a nobody in the India-TSP foreign policy affairs, just like his predecessor.

India's fault here is, it is a neighbor of pigistan.

Terrorist attacks soar, India among most affected nations - study
Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Yemen were the five countries most affected by terrorism in descending order, it said, based on a measure giving weightings to number of attacks, fatalities and injuries and level of property damage.
I don't want to say what is common among the other four nations Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan & Yemen. Surprisingly, Iran isn't there.
The Global Terrorism Index - published on Tuesday by the U.S.- and Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace think tank - ranked countries based on data from the Global Terrorism Database run by a consortium based at the University of Maryland, a commonly used reference by security researchers.

I somehow don't like the bracketing with third rated nations, makes me feel there is terrorism inherent in our society. They should have elaborated that in India's case the terrorism is because of TSP.

I want to visit Pakistan, but time is not right: Man Mohan Singh
In his letter, which was delivered to Zardari's office by the Indian high commission in Islamabad, Singh recalled how he had always told Pakistani leaders that he wanted to visit the country. Thanking Zardari for his invitation, Singh said it was not conducive for him to visit Pakistan at the time mentioned by the president in his invite.

Rehman Malik to spend birthday at Taj Mahal with wife
Accommodating a personal request from Pakistan interior minister Rehman Malik, India has agreed to host him from December 11-13, to enable him to be at the Taj Mahal with his wife on his 61st birthday falling on December 12.

"Malik may also hold a joint press conference with Shinde on December 13 in Delhi... he has been insistent on showcasing the liberalised visa agreement as a big achievement of his tenure as interior minister of Pakistan," a home ministry official said. However, despite the bonhomie, India has got no special assurance from Malik if he will be bringing along voice samples of the 26/11 accused in Pakistan.

Vipul ji

You have been here long enough to know the underlying dhimmitudes.

I happened to meet a well known strategist a couple of years ago. He made a comment that "Indian Pakistan wars are like religious riots with Tanks. And that India should withdraw Prithvi missiles from border and make them completely conventional. Also recommended that our defensive tank brigades are pulled back and merged into offensive regiments (don't remember/know exact military terms)"

How to understand and perceive this statement?

Does it mean that it is ok for India to fight "religious" wars as long as they are outside our current borders? Which side Indian army stands and which religion it fights for?
OR
like GoI does internally, should we deny any opportunity to fight a war with Pakistan because it becomes a religious war and would go against Indian constitution?

Similarly the justification given for the impossibility of Pakistan nuking Delhi or any Indian city was the fact that it might (or will) results in few relatives of those Pakistani brigades dying in that attack. Please remember that we are talking about Pakistan where girls are burned with acid for looking at boys.

Anyways, my point is that all the Bhashan between Pakistan and GoI is meant to create the smoke screens of legitimacy for selling out Indian interests.

We will have to live with this as long as Indians doesn't know or say what their interests are.

Its particularly nonsensical given how little Pakistan's ruling class has done to expand the pool of 'educated Sunnis'.

Pakistan's social power structure has been under stress for a long time - feudal power is slipping as angry Pakjabi and Pashtun working and lower middle classes seek to assert themselves and redefine Pakistan.

They are using the ideological channels the Army has most consistently used for mobilisation - militant Sunnism. It is the direct result of making quality education and exposure to the wider world the privilege of the elite rather than the right of the majority.

At the end of the day militant Sunnism inside Pakistan is a class war. The cannon fodder believe the ideology they were drilled with by the elite, but they're going to use it against the elite with profound pleasure. The elite must either share the pain of the lowers, or let the lowers enjoy some of their privileges.

MI goes door-to-door to get information on journalists

ISLAMABAD: The Military Intelligence (MI) has initiated a country wide exercise, where they are knocking at the doors of journalists and columnists seeking help in providing them details about themselves in a two-page form in Urdu, for what they say is a verification process. …………………..

It is indeed shocking at the details that the MI is interested in. Apart from the journalist’s name, father’s name, CNIC number and other details easily available from Nadra, it was also obligatory to specify one’s religion and whether one was a Sunni or Shia. If you wished to put Islam in the desired column it was not enough. Details were needed whether one had any strong affiliation with any religious group and if one had been involved in any illegal activity. …………………

The questionnaire, amongst other things, wanted details of spouse, children and their contacts and activities. Contacts and details of brothers but sisters were not needed. The MI also wants to know which foreigners were the journalists meeting and what kind of information exchanged.

Details of cars owned and their details, bank account numbers and their details, tax return number, passport details, the list is endless. ………………….

Terror Infrastructure in Pakistan & POK intact: Govt. in Lok Sabha
There are about 2,500 militants in various camps in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and the intelligence and security agencies of the neighbouring country are actively supporting them in their infiltration bids into India.

This was stated by the government in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

“The terror infrastructure in Pakistan or PoK remains intact and infiltration attempts from across the border still continue to pose a challenge to the security forces. Reports indicate that there are 42 militants camps functioning across the borders, 25 in PoK and 17 in Pakistan with about 2,500 militants,” Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran told the House in a written reply to a question.

Pointing out that Pakistan intelligence and securities agencies were actively supporting terrorists in infiltration bids, he noted that “the India-Pakistan border, particularly the Jammu region, is highly vulnerable to infiltration from Pakistan side… Pakistan-based terrorists with the support of Pak Rangers/Pak Army, often make abortive attempts to sneak into the Indian territory.”

However, there was some decline in infiltration attempts in the last five years — 535 in 2007, 342 in 2008, 485 in 2009, 489 in 2010, 247 in 2011 and 249 till October this year.

Here we go again:
(posted in full from Yawn)
US to fulfil Pakistan’s urgent defence needs

From the Newspaper | Baqir Sajjad Syed | 5 hours ago
ISLAMABAD: The United States agreed on Tuesday to fulfil Pakistan’s urgent defence needs in the fight against terror.

“Recognising the enduring security requirements on both sides of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, the two delegations agreed to cooperate on a prioritised set of Pakistan’s defence requirements,” a statement issued at the conclusion of a two-day meeting of the Pakistan-US Defence Consultative Group said.

Defence Secretary Lt Gen (retd) Asif Yasin Malik and the US Undersecretary of Defence for Policy, Dr James Miller, led their sides at the talks held in Rawalpindi.

Officials from both countries identified areas of future defence cooperation for achieving shared objectives and committed to a “strong defence relationship”.

It was not clear what military hardware would be provided to Pakistan to meet urgent requirements in the fight against militants in tribal areas. Pakistan’s intended shopping list has always been a very long one, but there are some critical needs, like spares for maintenance of helicopter fleet.

The decision on furnishing Pakistan’s defence requirements appears to have been made in principle.

Officials from both sides will meet in Washington in March for a follow-up session where Pakistan will present its wish list. The Pakistani delegation will be led by the defence production secretary.

The 21st meeting of the consultative group marked the resumption of defence talks under the ‘strategic dialogue’ after a break of almost 18 months. The last meeting took place in May last year.

Although the dialogue at the ministerial level remains suspended since the challenging events of last year, some of its segments related to law enforcement, economy and defence have resumed following a recent improvement in ties.

Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, after their talks in Brussels on Monday, welcomed these meetings and said they looked forward to meetings of the working groups on energy and strategic stability.

Foreign Minister Khar had said in an interview earlier that ties with the US, including military and intelligence contacts, had fully recovered from the setbacks of 2011. :((

During the meeting of the defence consultative group, the two sides discussed issues related to Coalition Support Fund reimbursement and security assistance programmes. It was agreed to continue the discussions on both issues for finding the way forward. The situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s counter-terrorism and extremism operations in tribal areas also came up.

The joint statement noted that the group remained an invaluable forum to discuss strategic defence policy issues and exchange views on shared security concerns.

It noted the commitment of both sides to continue working together to implement a framework for defence cooperation based on areas of convergence between the US and Pakistani interests to promote peace and stability in the region.

Details were needed whether one had any strong affiliation with any religious group and if one had been involved in any illegal activity.

US to fulfil Pakistan’s urgent defence needs
I posted in the Foreign Policy thread a speech given by Amb. Kanwal Sibal. Relevant extracts will help answer the above.
The west has never supported India so far on issues of core concern to it, whether political, military or technological. . . India’s challenge is not to be simply co-opted into the existing international order that is controlled by the west. . . In fact US is responsible for drawing the LOC in J&K from NJ9842 to the Karakoram Pass arbitrarily. We should demand redress and a return to legality on this issue from US. US supports China’s territorial integrity but has not extended such support to India’s territorial integrity. We should engage US on this point as a strategic partner. . . India gets better understanding on the terrorism issue it is faced with, but the west is unable and unwilling to sanction Pakistan adequately because it needs Pakistan for ensuring an orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan, besides the need to engage Pakistan as a major Islamic and nuclear-armed country. This explains why despite the west’s willingness to use military means to combat proliferation elsewhere, Pakistan’s rapidly expanding nuclear arsenal is being countenanced, adding to threats to India’s security.

This is short-sighted analysis. The West and US have been artificially propping up Pakistan for the last 60 years, when neither was the US army in Afghanistan, nor was Pakistan a nuclear country. The real reason is that the Christian fundamentalist senators of US consider India a pagan superpower that has to be stopped in its tracks, and Pakistan is a useful idiot in this game. The animosity of Whites against India is religious in nature.

December 13 is the anniversary of Parliament attack. But then if we were to blacklist every day in which Pakis have conducted terror attacks on India, there would be no days for any Pakistani to visit.

In the interest of Aman Ki Asha, we should forget such petty things and move on.

Suicide Bombing Kills 2 Soldiers in NW Pakistan
Two suicide bombers have attacked an army camp in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least two soldiers and wounding several others.

Pakistani security officials say the attackers Wednesday drove a vehicle packed with explosives into a gate at the camp in Wana, the main town in the South Waziristan tribal area.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
2 uniformed terrorists have been eliminated by good taliban.

They didn't read the fine print saar, when it said that "Pakistan was created for the Muslims of the sub-continent (to kill each other, idiot.")
