DAWN GROUP Stands By It's Messenger BUT Pmo Rejects "Dawn Story" Once Again !
In response to a news report published in Dawn on Thursday, Oct 6, the Office of the Prime Minister has issued yet another statement, strongly denying the contents and rejecting it as a fabrication. This is the third contradiction issued by the PM office, the first one and then its revised and stronger version being released on October 6.Following a meeting of the top civilian and military leadership on Monday, the latest PM office statement said, the participants expressed concern over the publication of a “fabricated news story” in Daily Dawn pertaining to security issues purportedly discussed in a meeting of National Security Committee last week.
Remains to be seen whether the newspaper "founded by the Father Of The Nation" , succumbs under military pressure !
NOTE: Dawn would like to clarify and state on the record several things. First, this newspaper considers it a sacred oath to its readers to pursue its reporting fairly, independently and, above all, accurately. The story that has been rejected by Prime Minister’s Office as a fabrication was verified, cross-checked and fact-checked.Second, many at the helm of affairs are aware of the senior officials, and participants of the meeting, who were contacted by the newspaper for collecting information, and more than one source confirmed and verified the details. Therefore, the elected government and state institutions should refrain from targeting the messenger, and scape-goating the country’s most respected newspaper in a malicious campaign. – Editor Dawn
According to reports, Dawn's member of staff Cyril Almeida, who wrote the news report "Act against militants or face international isolation, civilians tell military", has been put on the country's Exit Control List (ECL).

Cyril Almeida Travel Ban ," A Crude Intimidation Tactic Designed To Silence Jounalist " - AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
Pakistan: Drop travel ban on Dawn journalist
11 October 2016, 15:33 UTC
Pakistan’s authorities must immediately revoke a travel ban on a leading journalist and allow the media to operate freely and without fear, Amnesty International said today.Cyril Almeida, assistant editor of Dawn newspaper, was placed on Pakistan’s Exit Control List by the Pakistani authorities after the Prime Minister’s Office took exception to a front page report he wrote, dated 6 October, on tensions between the civilian government and the military.“The travel ban on Cyril Almeida is a crude intimidation tactic designed to silence journalists and stop them from doing their jobs,” said Audrey Gaughran, Amnesty International’s Director of Global Issues.
This "publicity" will make it difficult for the Deep State to make him a Wajib-ul-Cutlet like Saleem Shahzad !
“The language used by the Prime Minister’s Office is chilling. It is one thing for the authorities to dispute and contradict a media report. But it is quite another to threaten a journalist under the guise of national security,” said Audrey Gaughran.
On 30 August, on the International Day of the Disappeared, the organization called for a prompt, thorough and effective investigation into the whereabouts of Zeenat Shahzadi, a 24-year-old journalist who has not been seen or heard from for more than a year. The independent Human Rights Commission of Pakistan believes she was subject to an enforced disappearance by security forces. If Hamid Mir, is a "fearless journalist" as he claims to be, then he should come out now and speak strongly against the "Deep State "

The exit control list is a huge blackmailing tool that the Pak Fauj uses.
That means a person is stuck in the Jail like Pakistan, while the ISI, riles up the Jihadis within against the target...

Pakistan greatest threat to world peace: India tells UN - ToI
In yet another stinging reply to Pakistan, India told the United Nations on Monday that there was a dangerous correlation between Pakistan's unchecked development of nuclear weapons and the close nexus between the state and jihadi groups, and this posed the greatest threat to the world.

Responding to a reference to Jammu & Kashmir by Pakistan's envoy to the Conference on Disarmament, Tehmina Janjua, Indian envoy Venkatesh Verma said, "The biggest threat to peace and stability comes from active promotion of terrorism and unbridled expansion of fissile material production and delivery systems for nuclear weapons under the shadow of a deeply disturbing and deeply entrenched nexus between state entities and non-state actors."

The Indian response came after Janjua orally added a reference to the "Jammu & Kashmir dispute" to Pakistan's statement in the 'first committee' which concerns itself with disarmament and non-proliferation issues. The remark was not there in her written statement. Verma responded by reminding the UN that "nuclear proliferation linkages which are active today have clear Pakistan fingerprints".

Separately, Indian ambassador to Russia Pankaj Saran publicly rebuked Moscow for its budding military relationship with Pakistan. In trenchant comments to news agency Ria Novosti, Saran said, "We have conveyed our views to the Russian side that military cooperation with Pakistan, which is a state that sponsors and practices terrorism as a matter of state policy, is a wrong approach. It will only create further problems." While this has been talked about in the government and among experts, this is the first time India has openly chided Russia for its flirtations with Pakistan.

In the UN, the Pakistani diplomat trod a beaten path by offering a set of "proposals" that have long been rejected by India - "simultaneous application of IAEA safeguards on all nuclear facilities and bilateral arrangement for their reciprocal inspections, simultaneous accession to NPT, regional CTBT" etc. "Just last month, our prime minister underlined Pakistan's resolve to maintain strategic stability in its region... expressed readiness to agree on a bilateral arrangement," Janjua said.

Verma, in response, described the Pakistani proposals as "self-serving" and said it was "ironic that a country whose non-proliferation track record is marked by obstructionism seeks to convince the international community on its self-serving proposals".

"It is a matter of record that Pakistan is singularly responsible for blocking the international disarmament agenda and the Conference on Disarmament," he said.
Pakistan has blocked all movement on a fissile material cut-off treaty.

Pakistan seeks bigger Saarc to counter India’s influence
WASHINGTON: Pakistan is exploring the possibility of creating a greater South Asian economic alliance to counter India’s controlling hold on the eight-member South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc), diplomatic observers say.“A greater South Asia is already emerging,” said Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, in one of his interactions with the media. “This greater South Asia includes China, Iran and the neighbouring Central Asian republics.”“We want India to join this arrangement as well,” said Mr Hussain, an offer Indians are unlikely to accept as they are comfortable with the advantage that Saarc provides them. The boycott led to an indefinite postponement of the summit and exposed Pakistan’s isolation within the group where it once played a key role.
Among the eight Saarc nations, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are India’s strong allies while Bhutan, surrounded by India from all sides, is too small to resist any move from New Delhi. The Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka have good ties with Pakistan, but they are not large enough to take on India.“Apparently, the showdown forced Pakistan to conclude that in its present shape, Saarc will always be dominated by India. That’s why they are now talking about a greater South Asia,” said a senior diplomat while confirming reports that Pakistan is actively seeking a new regional arrangement.“Pakistan hopes that this new arrangement will give it more room to manoeuvre when India tries to force a decision on it,” said another diplomat.Diplomatic observers in Washington say that the proposed arrangement also suits China as it is also worried about India’s rapidly growing influence in the region. They argue that China can play an important role in persuading Central Asian republics and Iran to join the new arrangement. But the observers warn that Saarc members will have little interest in supporting the idea. There is not much benefit for Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka in joining a land route far from their borders and Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have their own ports. The member that is likely to get the most benefits from a greater South Asian alliance is Afghanistan, which is technically a land-locked Central Asian nation. Any trade route that links South and Central Asian regions is good for Afghanista.

Asking Iran to Join South Asian Association- As far as my knowledge many Iranians especially those in Govt look down on people from the subcontinent. Their H&D will not allow them to be part of "South Asia". I think Pakistan should make a very public attempt where they will get smacked.

This is pure and simple delusional fart. It would be delusional if the bakis believed it but I don't think so. They just trying to convince their mango apduls that they too have *options* against Indian offensive. If the Bakis are able to get the last word their H&D is restored! This is a prime example of that. This is also how they won Kargil when mushRAT declared on BakTV that he had India in a choke hold. Again battle won and H&D restored!

Even then lets take try analyzing. First question is what is SCO for? Does it not cover the same geography? Or are the Bakis conspire with the Chinese to get the SCO renamed "Sooth Ayesha whatever ..."

Another dossier!!

Pakistan hands over dossier to UNGA
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Special Envoys have handed over a dossier to the President of UN General Assembly, Peter Thomson, concerning human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK).
He stressed that the ongoing movement was indigenous and was sparked by the extra-judicial killing of youth leader and icon, Burhan Wani
In response,
The President of the General Assembly expressed concern at the situation and assured the visiting envoys that he would do everything possible to foster peace. He also said that he would get an update on the current situation from the UN Department of Peace Keeping Operations.
In other words, thanks for coming. You got your photo-op and fifteen minutes. Don't call me. I will call you. There's the door. Don't let the door hit you on your way out. Next....!

Ashley Tellis calls George Perkovich and some Dalton fellow Paki propagandists, (in professor-ease :-) )
http://www.livemint.com/Opinion/NCnQ13i ... -hope.html
The prospect of stronger Indian responses to future Pakistani terrorism, however, naturally exacerbates international fears of war—even nuclear war—in the subcontinent. But the prophylactic to further conflict has always been clear, even if seemingly beyond reach: The Pakistan army must stop supporting terrorist groups as part of its confrontation with India.

It is sometimes argued in the West—as George Perkovich and Toby Dalton have recently done—that “India cannot reasonably expect that Pakistani authorities will be willing and able to destroy groups such as (Lashkar-e-Taiba), and simultaneously eradicate the numerous militant groups that now threaten the internal security of Pakistan more directly”.

Rawalpindi has long offered such rationalizations in response to foreign démarches (especially those by Washington), but these cannot disguise the fact that its current problems with firefighting emerge from its own continued flirtation with arson. Letting go of the terrorist groups it has spawned over the years is presently less a function of inability than it is a deliberate choice.

If the Pakistan army’s reluctance to move against outfits such as the Haqqani network, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen were rooted in operational overextension, these groups would not continue to enjoy the financial subsidies, targeting assistance, and operational backing—under the generally directive, but also occasionally detailed, control—of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

In fact, when the Pakistani military wanted to, it moved against internal enemies with remarkable alacrity: Recall how former President Pervez Musharraf targeted numerous sectarian groups despite the army’s substantial commitments along the western border following 9/11. In other instances, Rawalpindi has used lethal covert methods to neutralize sub-state challengers with minimal consequences to public order—as long as it perceived clear benefits to its parochial interests.
This is a must read article in full. Ashley Tellis does his usually methodical and thorough job analyzing the terror and retaliation issue. I think the good prof. makes a mistake here:
Focused retaliation is entirely plausible: The real dangers here, however, are less operational or escalatory, but political. India has the capacity to punish the Pakistani military severely and to do so through means well below the nuclear threshold, but it risks reinforcing the traditional “hyphenation” with Pakistan at a time when the strategic trajectories of the two states are completely divergent. At any rate, as Michael Krepon notes, “Modi has (now) laid down a marker that he will not stand idly by as the usual suspects carry out attacks resulting in rising casualty counts.”
The Indo-Pak hyphenation will only happen if the 'punish them' war ends in a stalemate, or leads to the destabilization of India itself. Both of these are possible, but unlikely outcomes. A stalemate is exceedingly unlikely, barring major miscalculations and planning/strategy errors that I dont see the Indian general staff and Indian politicians making. A destabilization may happen if a mass casualty attack happens on an economically important Indian city, or if the economic growth rate of the Indian juggernaut is derailed by a short war. Both these reasons are plausible but can be mitigated given specific economic and technological approaches. For instance, using domestic industry for weapons rules out any economic slowdown in the face of war. In fact, we will likely see a sharp escalation in growth as the war fighting industry ramps up its production. Historically, this is what has happened in the US, where there has been a sharp uptick in the economy when fighting a war. (The time to pay the bills comes a few years later..) Similarly, preventing a mass casualty attack on an Indian city is a function of available technology and political/strategic goals.

There is no reason an Indo-Pak conflict will result in 'hyphenation' any more than the German-US conflict resulted in hyphenation. In fact, the first step to India being a great power in the world goes over the corpse of the current Pakistani state. Unless this constantly war mongering state is destroyed, India will forever be confined to a 'regional power'.

US backs India's 'right to self-defence', slams Pakistan for linking Afghan peace to Kashmir

WASHINGTON: Supporting India's "right to self-defence" in the aftermath of the Uri attack which it dubbed a "clear case of cross-border terrorism", the US on Wednesday dismissed the recent attempt by Pakistan to link peace in war-torn Afghanistan with resolution of the Kashmir issue.

The White House backed India's right to defend itself as with any other country, in view of the recent surgical strike but advised caution given the heavy militarisation between the two neighbours.

It also said that that the US is making every effort to ensure that India become a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) by the end of this year.

Making a rare appearance before a Washington audience, Peter Lavoy, the White House's point person for South Asia, said that India-US ties are the "most dynamic relationship" for the US as he listed the Obama administration's achievements in strengthening the relationship between the two largest democracies of the world.

"It (Uri) was a clear case of cross-border terrorism. We condemned this act of terrorism. It was a horrific attack. Every country has a right to self-defence. But in a heavily militarised relationship that has also experienced three wars, there is indeed a need for caution and restraint," he said responding to a question on the Uri attack.

"We share with India, the concern for preventing any future attack. We empathise with the Indian position that it needs to respond militarily to cross-border threat of terrorism. But we also advise caution," Lavoy said.

India and Pakistan have a "friction-filled relationship" and they have not found a way to overcome that, he said.

Last week, Lavoy met the two special envoys of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Kashmir.

The two Pakistani envoys in their public meetings had linked peace in Afghanistan to resolving the Kashmir issue.

"We certainly do not believe that the situation in Afghanistan is linked with Kashmir," the top White House official said.
Lavoy said the US is making every effort to ensure that India becomes a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group by the end of this year.

"In 2016 India ought to join the NSG," he said and referred to the commitment made by the US in this regard.

India becoming a member of NSG, he argued would exhibit New Delhi's new leadership in non-proliferation.

"Every effort is being made to ensure India ought to join NSG this year," Lavoy said to a question.

'Why can't you act against Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed?' Pakistan daily 'The Nation' asks Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: A leading Pakistani daily on Wednesday asked the civilian and military establishment why action against JeM chief Masood Azhar and JuD's Hafiz Saeed was "danger" to the country's national security.
The editorial titled 'How to Lose Friends And Alienate People' said the government and the military instead of taking actions against Azhar and Saeed was lecturing the press.

US Is Pakistan's Real Enemy ; Best To Focus On Building Ties With India - Hafiz Saeed
Terror mastermind hits out at US and asks the Pakistani government to instead reach out to India.

New Delhi, October 12, 2016 | UPDATED 16:31 IST
Declared a wanted man by both India and the United States, terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed spewed venom against India and the US, but reserved his most bitter remarks for Uncle Sam.Calling the US Pakistan's enemy, Saeed said it is time Pakistan shifts its focus from the US to building a relationship with India.
Taking a dig at the US for declaring a bounty on his head, Saeed said "There is a bounty worth crores on me but in the last five years US could not achieve anything out of it".ALSO READ: Hafiz Saeed releases new video before Eid, asks Kashmiris to back Hurriyat
"I am at peace when India gets worried about me or when US comes to Pakistan asking about me," Saeed said, mocking India and Pakistan's failed efforts to capture him.
The man behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks didn't mince any words in criticising the Pakistani government for failing to resolve the Kashmir issue.
Talking about Pakistan being isolated internationally, Saeed said the day Kashmir gets aazadi, India would know the pain of being lonely. Inciting people to fight for Kashmir, he said, "All parties should come together for Kashmir's freedom. India cannot do anything. Don't remember the US but remember Allah," the terror mastermind said.

CHRISTIAN CRACKDOWN: Pakistan bans TV stations in sweeping 'attack on religious freedom'
Pakistan, home to some 2.8million christians, ordered the censoring of pro-Christian programmes after the nation's TV regulatory body declared them illegal. One censored station, Catholic TV, broadcasted from Lahore where 42 adult Christians and 30 children were killed in a suicide blast while celebrating Easter last March.Catholic TV founder Father Morris Jalal said: "As citizens, Christians have the right to practice their religion, but if they block you, it means not all citizens are equal.
"When someone bans the expression of faith, which is a fundamental right, there is persecution."The move to ban the stations leaves Pakistan's Christian minority with no public media presence after 17 years of having been allowed to broadcast across the country.Father Jalal added: "We must protest this decision, and we hope the West does it as well."
Father Mushtaq Anjum, claimed the action, which made “the proclamation of the good news illegal,” was a "discriminatory law that affects non-Muslims".
Other members of the local Christian community have also asked the government to revoke the measure, calling it an "act of intimidation" and an "attack to religious freedom".It comes as a 16-year-old Christian boy faces the death penalty after he was accused of insulting Islam in a Facebook post. The boy has been arrested and charged with blasphemy after a photo of the Kaaba in Mecca, one of the holiest sites in Islam, appeared on his profile.
It is high time that Pakistan drop the farce (1) that it is a democracy and (2) all religious communities are equal under the law ; it can "start" the process by re-designing its flag and making it "total" GREEN to represent the supremacy of MALSI and eliminating the so-called "WHITE" which is supposed to represent the minorities ( Hindus, Christians, etc )

^^The title of that article is DDM-itis onlee.

Here's what Hafiz Suar is quoted as saying:
"Instead of the US, you (government) should build ties with India. The US would block such an effort," Saeed said.
What is lost in translation is that Hafiz was being suar-castic. He was saying: hoping that US will ever help Paki govt to get Kashmir is a non-starter because the US would block any such effort; in fact, Paki govt might get further in its aims by trying to persuade India itself to give up Kashmir.

The overlying irony is that, if India was still under Maino-MMS Raj, he may well have been right...

If they dont, west will do hukka paani band.
They either need another 9/11 to make themselves useful again or find another foolish father. The louder rhetoric extolling China is the obvious need of the hour.

To put things in perspective. Since the surgical strikes pakis or their proxies have tried 3-4 attacks in Kashmir and failed. Why are we not continuing with hits across pakjab? Retaliation shouldn't only be when we are hurt, it should be applied even when they fail. Till pakjab collapses completely.

+1 That's what I've been wondering. had any of those post SS attacks been successful, we'd have had another Uri. Better be like Israel, retaliate whenever we are attacked.

how do we know more SS type raids or attacks didn't happen?

We only know that the army/govt. didn't announce.

You are right we can't tell. But the paki show bazi seems to have stopped, flying F-16s over I'bad, flares etc. Looks like they have downgraded threat alert. Also, when you announce one and you saw the country wide reaction, why won't you announce any subsequent raids?

Well, idk, may be the govt. should dedicate a 24/7 live news channel for cross border raids. If we are going to ask for information on every op, we may get dangerously closer to what muffler-topi asked.

Last time we didn't just win the physical battle, we also won the information battle. Let's keep winning.
