There are reasons to believe that Meng Wanzhou entered Canada on a Canadian passport, (this is not confirmed), as at her/Huawei's request a Canadian court has placed a gag order on media accessing and reporting relating to this matter. If this information is accurate, then it also means that either she is not a Chinese citizen because China does not allow dual nationality OR that because of her lofty and privileged status she was allowed to retain her full Chinese passport/citizenship even after she acquired Canadian citizenship. If she entered Canada on a Canadian passport then according to the rules of dual nationality she will be treated like a Canadian citizen and the US extradition request will be processed as if she is a Canadian citizen. This is probably why she was arrested in Canada after having entered Canada on a Canadian passport vs arresting her in a third country on a Chinese or Canadian passport.

some talk this evening of huawei having legal entities hidden away specially for the purpose of trading with iran and to conceal this business and that the charges relate to operating this entity and evading scrutiny and oversight... all things considered, there does appear to be a major political lens on this episode
beijing is mightily annoyed...

Or she is doing a defection. Huawei is PLA Inc. right? "Started in 1983 with 20,000 Yuans" my musharraf.

This may be fallout from succession struggle and Ms. Huwawei chose Canadian/Yoo Ess debriefing vs. PLA/Gobi Roadbuilding Force debriefing.
So Huawei steals all US secrets. US steals the person who knows the inner details of Huawai's secrets because she sees the accounts.

From what I have been to gather the problem for Huawei stems from using American components (chipset from Qualcomm, perhaps?) in their smartphones. Now American companies can export products to countries other than Iran which are not under American sanctions. In turn the US companies take an undertaking from the importers that the same will not be exported either directly or indirectly to countries that are under sanctions. Huawei appears to have defaulted on this undertaking. Or that is my understanding. Can somebody clarify?

that's one of the problems
the other is that they have installed spyware on their network management systems that are being bought all over the world for 5G networks - number of countries have banned/stopped using Huawei network systems and others are thinking about it
some lone voices in India are urging ministry to think again

Mattis will be gone in a few months when donkey/urban-naxal party in US House begin investigations come January. Harassment of cabinet and DT family members will begin in earnest. From Jan. 2019 to Nov. 2020 will be a hell for administration people. Expect lots of gun violence in US with many innocents being killed - particularly colored people. DT will start a race war who will burn down the US before stepping down.

CNN
Apple is putting more detail on its plan to create 20,000 jobs in the United States over the next five years.
The company said Thursday it will spend $1 billion to build a new campus in Austin, Texas.
The city is already home to one Apple (AAPL) campus, a sprawling facility with 6,200 employees that is the company's largest outside its headquarters in Cupertino, California.
Apple's new Austin campus will be less than a mile from the existing one and will be spread across 133 acres, the company said in a statement. It is expected to make Apple the city's largest employer, with a workforce of 5,000 employees and the capacity to add 10,000 more.
There's more to come. Apple also plans to build new offices in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City over the next three years. Each will be home to more than 1,000 employees.
The expansion comes after new US tax laws were enacted late last year that prevented Apple from avoiding taxes on international profits. The company announced in January that it would invest $30 billion in US facilities and create 20,000 American jobs by 2023.
---
apple already has opened a office in san diego and is busy poaching staff from a weak qualcomm.

Saar, moved to Dallas from Columbus OH in 2006. Never regretted one bit. Frisco TX survey of languages spoken at home, concludes after English it's Telugu.
And Frisco is the fastest growing city in the US. Population eventually expected in the range of 350k.
Heard Desi population in DFW area is about 120k. Recent Diwali Mela held at Cotton Bowl Stadium had close to 40k people.

the chart is interesting - people are moving to more affordable metros, which seem to be offering more cosmopolitan environments to live. although in some cases the pressure that will put on the local ecology may be unsustainable...

San jose is gaining people
San francisco is probably in balance or losing people
If you consider the bay area as a whole surely its gaining people

The Bay Area of California is a mixed bag. Climate and geography are good, but housing is sky high at nearly $1M median home price. If you look at locals, they are moving out and the people coming in are newer immigrants with higher education. In time, laborers and the lower middle class will move out of the large CA metros. Prices will only climb before the revolt. The SALT limitation is going to hurt CA bad.

>> geography are good
actually its bad given the population. hemmed in by mountains & backwaters on seaward side and inland too
best is LA with a huge mesh of highways and flat all over. no wonder its the largest city, industrial center and port on west coast. LA is like chennai - powerful in all aspects. they can and should easily build a large metro system. bay area is mostly bark and weak bite vs a titan like LA.
american elite EECS youth would prefer to work in bay area cos mostly - growth and perks are best. probability of a big payday from a buyout is best. young people no more want a suburban Mchouse with a 2 car garage and a fat mortgage. marriage and 'settling down' is being ever more pushed back. they seem ok with earning high and renting.
maybe things will change once Trumpism forces cos to use their repatriated cash to create jobs in other parts - apple has announced a large campus in austin and smaller ones in places like seattle and san diego. housing will be more affordable anywhere vs bay area

Perhaps. If you go south of San Jose on 101 as is already happening there is room there for a greater Bay Area. The only problem there and in other western states is the lack of water for a larger population.
In SFO nearly half of all residents are contemplating moving out. Of course it isn't as bad as Chicago or NYC.

the san jose city limit on south actually the very last house in the very limit of town line is where my buddy lives. i have been there. people are loathe to live in such places due to school issues - they put their kids in pvt schools more inside sj.
anyway south of that is vast cattle rearing type areas and scattered farms a town called morgan hill mostly hispanic people and a large outlet mall.
the road goes over hills to santa cruz. place is dry foresty hills....with some water reservoirs ... cougar warning signs all over ... i did a hike carrying a huge branch i broke off for self defence. it was nearing dusk when i made it back to car park and i was a bit 'worried' . a strange type lady wandering alone muttering aimlessly to herself did not help my BP.
its an area no gora or yindu wants to settle in even if infra and housing were built up.
instead newbies have migrated to a belt of towns near livermore (of lawrence livermore lab fame), dublin, pleasanton and they car pool via a crowded expway into proper bay area or get on the bridge or rail to cross over into sfo city. certain cos are also in that belt like workday, oracle etc.

On Mueller tamasha, all I c so far is:
a) Hi-fliers around the top were/are all money-makers/deal-cutters. No surprise. Did not expect them to be babes in the woods (no insult to some here who appear to have seen some and got scared

. Or MKGandhis.
b) There was some Russian largess related to deal for building in Russia. No surprise. All real estate/ hospitality industry deals involve making customers happy. Did not expect Trump Inc to go to Russia (as they have gone to India, South Korea, probably North Korea soon) and just biss off the locals like the SDOTUS dolts generally do.
c) Some Russians who came to chats in NYT may have known a bit more than others on Russian strategies. Huh? U mean they didn't send ppl of the cluefulness of the COTUSdolts who went to negotiate with the Taliban in 1999?
d) May have paid off a few ppl to keep mouths more shut than other parts of their anatomy. Duh! Better and so much more decent than the East River Concrete Shoes solution hain? Don't any corporations settle suits rather than have their dirty laundry dragged through courts and media?
If they convict the POTUS based on that, after 2 years and $30M, Canada and Beijing will soon rule DC (Beijing even sooner).

Up to Morgan Hill an expansion could be done.
In any case, that area has not seen the build up or migration similar to the I-35 corridor from DFW to Austin to San Antonio, TX. Around 300+ miles.

spent 2 months there in 2014. per my sv friends I explored more places there in 2 months on my own than them in 15-20 years. I am happy being on my own and walking around on a 24x7 basis on lean rations and off-grid. my friends' conception of the world kind of centers on santa clara, sunnyvale, santana row, el camino real and a annual trip to SFO city - the last time he went there with family some people were skating nude to celebrate some LGBT event so that badly scarred him
had several meals and talks with members rbose and gus. I think had dinner with gus thrice. rbose also tricked me into running sacramento full marathon on a bandit bib he obtained from a injured colleague with him pacing from 20 miles on - finished in 5:18 under a romanian name

I cringed as the announcer hailed me as Mr Ionescu or something as i ran over the line....quickly slunk away, tail between legs to get my free erdinger witbrau before some official came to nab me.

the hills around the valley area make for excellent hiking, and lots of interesting out of the way places. what struck me last time was the growing inequality between the tech-worker-loge and the mango-joes... with the mangoes probably being the first to high tail it out of the zone due to unaffordability issues... may lead to longer term demographic issues

told the kids if you ever mentioned the D-word again I will renounce family life and go become a sadhu. it was xmas time and crowds were massive. did not even get to sleep in peace because had to catch the 7:00 am shuttle from outside hotel to the entrance. and while wife and 2 kids enjoyed the emperor sized bed, I was put on a thin camp bed as extra.

Pulling out of Syria was fine.
The US cannot continue constant wars and deployments to 1,000 locations around the world. At the same time this administration is handing the keys back to the Taliban and pakis. Afpak and Syria seem to have been the straw that broke the camel's back for Mad Dog.
