With Ch. Nisar on board with the PML ( if and when !) no one can stop Showbaaz from becoming the new PM of Pakiland, at least IMO . With his connections to the fauj, Nisar can be a Kingmaker again ! And the Sharif family can remain in the "family business" again. All's well that ends well

KARACHI: Rupee is expected to further depreciate around 12 percent by the end of the next fiscal year of 2019 as external financing requirements are projected to remain elevated in the medium-term on growing imports, a brokerage said on Wednesday.
“We expect a further depreciation of around 5 percent in rupee/dollar value by the second half of 2018 followed by approximately 5 to 7 percent devaluation during 2018/19,” Alfalah Securities said in an economic brief. “We expect further market-driven downward adjustment of the exchange rate in response to depletion of forex reserves, with the magnitude and duration of rupee weakness depending on when Pakistan signs up to a (International Monetary) Fund program – or manages to arrange foreign exchange reserves- bolstering hard currency from alternate sources.”
Rupee lost 10 percent of its value against dollar since December 2017.
The brokerage said the country’s external financing requirements would increase in the medium-term as large energy import requirements displace China-Pakistan Economic Corridor -related machinery imports, and as “a hump in debt repayments kick in”.
“The gross external financing requirement is on target to be around $25 billion for the full year,” it added. “The unfunded portion of the overall external gap is estimated to be around $12 billion for the current fiscal year, which could represent a drawdown of official reserves if it remains unfinanced.”
Alfalah Securities said the unsustainable external financing requirements on the horizon mean that the rupee would begin to experience volatility as well as pressure again within a few months.
“With dwindling foreign exchange reserves, SBP’s ability to intervene in the markets will also be constrained,” it added.
“The depletion of foreign exchange reserves continued with the country’s international liquidity having declined a cumulative $7.1 billion in the past 12 months or by 38 percent.”
The brokerage said the pressure on the balance of payments position has continued to mount despite a noticeable turnaround in the country’s exports since early 2017. “With large net external financing needs persisting over the next three years, the forex reserves loss is expected to continue, requiring an IMF (International Monetary Fund) loan arrangement (or an alternate financing source) by the summer.”
Current account deficit rises 50 percent to $10.8 billion for the July-February period of the current fiscal year.
Alfalah Securities said the dynamic of Pakistan-US relations could at some stage, depending on how much ‘pain’ the US administration wants to bring to bear, hamper the country’s access to multilateral financing, including from the IMF.
“At this stage, however, we regard this as a low-probability event – but a potential risk that needs to be monitored,” it added. “An additional exogenous risk is the possibility of a full-fledged global trade war sparked by the US administration’s tariff moves against major trading partners.”
The brokerage said the pause in monetary tightening is unwarranted and a sign of weakness that the central bank may rue in the months ahead as the pressure on the external account as well as inflationary pressure continue to intensify.
“We believe the policy response function warrants more aggressive measures – which the central bank will be forced to turn to from May onwards,” it added.

ISLAMABAD: The outgoing government would leave official foreign currency reserves – currently standing at only $11.8 billion — at a ‘comfortable level’ for its successor, Minister of State for Finance Rana Afzal assured on Tuesday.
The widening current account deficit is the biggest challenge and the only option is to “arrange dollars to meet financing requirements’, said Rana Afzal while speaking at the Express Group’s Budget Seminar.
The government plans to take commercial loans and in addition it has sent requests to friendly countries to place more deposits in the State Bank of Pakistan, according to sources in the Ministry of Finance. Friendly countries have already placed $1.7 billion as deposits with the central bank under currency swap arrangements, which are part of the $11.8 billion gross official reserves.
The government is eying to tap more commercial loans at a time when interest rates in capital markets have started increasing.
The SBP has also dropped a hint about these arrangements in its latest Monetary Policy announcement. The government’s plans to timely mobilise external inflows, both official and commercial, will play a pivotal role in maintaining adequate level of SBP’s foreign exchange reserves and anchoring sentiments in foreign exchange markets, according to the central bank.
Due to ever widening current account deficit, the SBP’s foreign exchange reserves declined to $11.78 billion as of March 22, which are hardly sufficient for two months of future import bill. Due to low reserves levels, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank have already suspended budgetary support for Pakistan.
The current account deficit has already reached $10.8 billion during July-February period of this fiscal year, which is about 50% more than it was during the same period in the last fiscal year.
In its latest report, the IMF said that Pakistan’s net official foreign currency reserves were negative $724 million as of mid-February. It has estimated Pakistan’s gross financing requirements at $24.5 billion for this fiscal year.
Rana Afzal defended high debt levels and said that the government did not have an option but to borrow to run its affairs. He said that high spending on security was also the reason behind the growing debt burden.
Rana Afzal advocated continuity of the political system that he said would help address the governance issues in the country. In India, there is one political system for last 70 years but we have not yet decided what is good for Pakistan, he added.
He appealed that there should be no politics on the issue of economy and the political parties should sign the charter of economy.
The current socio-economic conditions will create enormous difficulties for the next government, said Omar Ayub, former minister of state for finance. Ayub also highlighted flaws in negotiations of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
In its current shape, the CPEC is just a trade route that will massively reduce the transportation cost for the Chinese but it would not create jobs for Pakistanis, said Ayub. He said that the government should strive to create more jobs opportunities by renegotiating CPEC terms.

NEW DELHI: India on Thursday rejected reports alluding a possible cooperation with China on Beijing's mega 'One Belt One Road' (OBOR) venture, asserting that no country can accept a project that ignores its core concerns on sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar also noted that India's position on OBOR/BRI was "clear and there is no change."
"The so-called 'China-Pakistan Economic Corridor' violates India's sovereignty and territorial integrity. No country can accept a project that ignores its core concerns on sovereignty and territorial integrity," Kumar said.
India is of a firm belief that connectivity initiatives must be based on universally recognised international norms, good governance, rule of law, openness, transparency and equality, and must be pursued in a manner that respects sovereignty and territorial integrity, the spokesperson said.
His comments came in response to media reports that New Delhi may refrain from opposing BRI in a blanket fashion for the time being and limit its opposition to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that violates India's sovereignty ahead of the SCO Summit, to be hosted by China in June.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be attending the summit along with leaders of other member countries.

But after much deliberation, I thought it was important – not just for you to know what is happening in our beloved country, but also for the world to be aware of how dissent is being targeted in Pakistan, forcing journalists like me into exile.It is also important to write this now. This week Pakistan’s leading news channel, Geo, is being shut down across the country, under orders alleged to have come from your office. All sorts of rumours were floating around about Bajwa's alleged role in this shenanigans, but as of yet , no smoking gun
Insiders say the intensification of attacks on the press is part of an organised campaign by the army of Pakistan to ensure that efforts to engineer and manipulate the 2018 elections are not openly discussed in the media. But did you not just recently say that you are the biggest supporter of democracy? If that statement was true, then you must stop your men from pulling the plug on freedom of speech, which is an essential characteristic of democracy. So, Siddiqi's "open letter" to Bajwa , is going to be delivered via social media. What about the important H&D of the COAS . Thank God that Siddiqi's immediate family is with him in Paris !
But before I tell you more about why freedom of speech is a fundamental right, I want to bring you up to date with what has been happening in my life. I currently live in Paris and have been here for the last seven weeks. When I decided to go into exile from my homeland, my wife and I were on the same page about it.
After my failed abduction attempt on 10 January this year by people I suspect to have been under your command, and the arrest warrants issued for me last year for “maligning the army”, we were left with no choice but to escape our own country. But we had to deal with another person in our family – Miranshah, our four-and-a-half-year-old son. We did not tell him what had happened or why we were being forced into exile. We decided to keep his childhood intact and to not burden him with the dark realities of his country of origin. Instead we told him that we were leaving to find better work in France.
He started to cry, and would not stop asking us what was wrong in Islamabad, and saying how he did not want to go to any other school as his friends would not be there. He screamed and shouted at us, and eventually just sobbed, with his head in his mother’s lap. Worse things have happened . Bhutto, an ex PM was hanged by a Paki President cum Ex COAS !
Once he had calmed down, all he asked was whether he could take his toys. We immediately said yes. But his simple request broke my heart. It was so tough for me, a father, and for my wife, his mother, to see our young child being asked to wrap up his life in Pakistan. Given the urgency of the situation, we had to do it all in a couple of weeks. And in return, all he asked for was his toys. Bajwa, like any other Paki COAS, is not going to be swayed by such "sentimental" sentiments ! ( although for optic reasons, he was shown photographed with Pashtun kids on his lap )
During those last days in Islamabad, I remember meeting Pakistan’s interior minister, Ahsan Iqbal, who invited me over for a cup of tea to discuss my abduction attempt. It was there that I had the idea of writing this letter, as the interior minister, who is technically your boss, suggested that I write to you to say sorry, and seek a pardon. He told me I should explain how I am a patriot, and want the best for Pakistan. IMO, Bajwa will concede to this request (i) provided Siddiqui gives a "promise to behave" and (ii) his "crore" commanders accede to this "request/ plea" from the journo
It was then that I decided that if the highest law enforcement officer in the land, the federal interior minister, could not help me, I was on my own, and I needed to get out to stay alive. Paki "democracy" is a sham . And this is what this journo is implicating !
Now I am taking up his suggestion of writing to you. But I want to do this publicly, and to make some different points to those he had in mind. As a journalist I am trained to speak about issues publicly, and since the matter of freedom of speech does not concern just me or you, but our homeland, there needs to be an open dialogue about it.
As I write these words, news has come in of a tribal belt journalist picked up by men from security agencies. And I know journalists back home will not talk openly about this or the hundreds of other enforced disappearances, fearing for their own safety. When I was abducted,your men did it in broad daylight, on one of the the main highways of Islamabad. There was traffic all around, and everyone saw the whole episode, but apart from one female student no one has come forward to talk about it. Journo Siddiqui should "tone it down" , if he is "really serious" in breathing the air of Isloo once again
Is this the society you want future generations to grow up in, where those in power can do what they like and no one even dares to come forward to help or speak about it?
Back in 1947, my grandparents left everything behind in India to migrate to Pakistan. They wanted the freedom they would enjoy in a country where they were not in a religious minority. Little did they know that this freedom would be short-lived, and their own grandson would be forced out of the country. Is this why our ancestors struggled to create Pakistan? Bajwa is a Pakjabi patriot. Siddiqui is a Mohajir and maybe, he has a "soft corner" for Altaf Bhai. It is unfortunate that most important Mohajirs - like Altaf and Mush - are being driven out of Pakistan, on one pretext or the other. Pakistan is fast becoming a Pakjabistan !
Pakistan was, is and will always remain my home. My life in Islamabad was comfortable. I had a lovely two-storey residence overlooking a garden, where I made my son plant trees – an early lesson for him in making Pakistan a greener place. I had a good job, and so did my wife. As a famous Nobel Prize Winner has observed in his book on Pakistan - many Pakistanis feel alienated in a non -Pakiland/ Unislamic environment. Such may be also the case for this journo !
Now I live in a foreign country where they do not speak my language and I do not have proper means to provide for my family. My wife is unemployed and my child has no friends at school. I am pointing this all out for you so that you and your team of social media trolls understand that being uprooted from one’s homeland is not as charming as you perhaps want to make it sound.
The Paki "Deep State" has successfully adopted this "exile threat" to good effect to silence their critics! Out of sight out of mind !
Our country faces a great deal of turmoil. The only way to address this is to first talk about the issues, and not silence that conversation, because dissent is an essential part of progress. If you do not get to hear what is wrong in Pakistan, you will live in a fool’s paradise, thinking all is well. And one day you will wake up to find the country imploding, as it did in 1971.
Many observers also feel that the country will implode or explode in a similar fashion like 1971 if things are not set right for the Non-Pakjabi Minorities

Seven decades into independence and the nation still oscillates between the ‘Jinnah Ideologies’. This is a discourse misinterpreted, a debate arcane and a matter that ignites fervour across the socio-political spectrum of Pakistan. The concocted mystery begins with a plain query: What was Jinnah’s ideology? Was he liberal or an Islamist? Quite disturbingly, these queries are barely construed for what they are and receive a bottled-up response from both sides of the argument, without spending a second over classifying the proposition and opposition. The liberals are smeared with those who reject rationale and the Islamists face an inequitable generalisation catering to the uncouth roadside clergy who abhors Jinnah along with the intellectual scholars who wax lyrical about him. Amidst the interpolated chaos that is nurtured by lack of perception of canons of a logical discourse, the solemn purpose of looking into the Founding Father’s ideology is disintegrated. So who was Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and was his vision really esoteric? If yes, then how did a fledgling vision fight against the odds to do the impossible?
As far as documented evidence is concerned, analysts from the left render Jinnah a secular individual primarily on the basis of the resounding address of August 11th, where he established that Pakistan will be a harmonious state that houses all religions without the interjection of the state and a quintessence of peaceful coexistence of faiths will be its hallmark. The ‘right wing’, or more accurately, Islamists, slam this view by projecting the addresses of July 1st 1948 at the inauguration of the State Bank where Jinnah unequivocally voiced his inclination and commitment to an Islamic economic system, guided by the principles of Shariah and vocalised its pragmatic nature that may not have been achieved but exists as a blue print. The Islamist perspective remains feeble without the emphasis over the historical occurrence of the Department of Islamic Reconstruction lost in the abyss of history and buried in the cemetery of conspiracies after the documents of the department were set ablaze rather mysteriously in October 1948. Prior to this, then foreign minister Zafarullah Khan removed Mr Muhammad Asad, the eminent Islamic scholar and former Austro-Hungarian Jewish citizen, from the department. The remains of this valiant measure are present in the government of Punjab archives, an astonishing survival given the crafty eradication of this historical establishment.
The essence of this debate is lost due to the classification of the defenders that is an epitome of sheer generalisation and misinterpretation of evidence. Analysts such as Nadeem F Paracha state that such debates are politically manoeuvred to serve the ideologies of partisans and do not have a virtual existence. While that is agreeable due to the nationally recognised propagandist instinct of the political arena, it cannot undermine the true vision of the Quaid whose efficacy we are fortunate to experience. This implies that inherently, the Quaid’s ideology was characterised by an urge to create a state that follows the genuine guidelines of Islam since such a state would be magnanimous to all minorities and accommodate all perspectives. All the documented evidences that portray his propensity to social and religious flexibility actually solidify his correct interpretation of a true Islamic state that does not exist in Pakistan today due to the misapprehension of the debate at hand. The claimants of an Islamic identity do not seem to comprehend its essence which has the appreciation of minorities, magnanimity of acceptance and unyielding justice at its heart. Amidst the labyrinth of national ideology, where paradigms constantly collide in a hopeless search of recognition, we fail to address the concerns that currently surround us and this very neglect results in ignorance towards contradicting perspectives and obstinacy for own. So to state, it is not Jinnah’s vision that is misconceived but the essence of an Islamic socioeconomic system that yearns for a viable form, the glorious purpose of the Department of Islamic Reconstruction that was obstructed and cries out to be revitalised for the greater good of all citizens holding all sorts of diverse beliefs and ideologies. BALDERDASH!
The labyrinth of these paradigms constantly colliding in search of recognition reminds me of an apt presentation coined by Elif Shafak in her work of fiction, The b*st*rd of Istanbul, where she refers to the similar ‘Turkish dilemma’ stating, “We are stuck. We are stuck between the East and the West. Between the past and the future. On the one hand, there are the secular modernists, so proud of the regime they constructed, you cannot breathe a critical word. They have got the army and half of the state on their side. On the other hand, there are the conventional traditionalists, so infatuated with the Ottoman past, you cannot breathe a critical word. They have got the general public and the remaining half of the state on their side. What is left for us?”
We retain what we establish. It is about time we broke free of vain absurdities and recognised our mutual destination.

And under the "Umbrella Of CPEC", the heathen Chinese are already harvesting these "maritime fruits" ( ie shrimp, lobster, fish, eel etc etc ) of the Arabian Sea for their "hungry citizens" and at the cost of the local Balochi fishers !. And the Pakistan Navy is aiding and abetting them in this theft , for the benefit of China and not Pakistan

"We have seen some media reports alluding to our possible cooperation with China in ‘One Belt One Road’ (OBOR)/‘Belt and Road Initiative’ (BRI).
Our position on OBOR/BRI is clear and there is no change. The so-called ‘China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’ violates India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. No country can accept a project that ignores its core concerns on sovereignty and territorial integrity.
We are of firm belief that connectivity initiatives must be based on universally recognized international norms, good governance, rule of law, openness, transparency and equality, and must be pursued in a manner that respects sovereignty and territorial integrity."
Meanwhile India continues to pursue other regional connectivity initiatives like the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) .

National carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has once again decided to re-design its logo symbolising the country’s national animal ‘Markhor’ this time.
However, he said that he doesn’t exactly know how much will the entire procedure cost.
Markhor, a screw horn goat,is an endangered animal. Their mating season takes place in winter, during which the males fight each other by lunging, locking horns and attempting to push each other off balance. Very paki thingy. Just like their national airline and the baki HS&D. The irony is, however, lost on the bakis.
But, here's a bigger irony. Bakistani ISI has the same HaramKhor as their logo. Dekho for jourshelf.
By the way, in their haste, the bakis got their airline logo wrong. HaramKhor has twisted horns but the logo shows straight horns. The logo depicts an Ibex. Heads must roll.
LAHORE: A day after the clash between staff of a Chinese company and the Special Protection Unit of police, Khanewal District Police Officer Rizwan Umar Gondal on Thursday recommended to the Punjab government deportation of five officials including the country project manager of the foreign company. This kind of action is not possible . ! Did the Indian Govt ( before pre-partition days ) deport errant Britishers back to Britain, when they violated Indian Laws . This is the same case here, IMO
The DPO conducted an inquiry and declared the Chinese workers responsible for the law and order situation which led to Wednesday’s untoward incident. He urged the government to declare five of them persona non grata and also proposed that the SPU personnel may also be shifted from Noorpur camp.
The police officer said the camp of the Chinese fell in the A category, therefore, the company must be directed to follow the standard operating procedures regarding security and provision of allied arrangements as conveyed to them. It is an "open secret" that the majority of "Chinese Labour Class" imported into Pakistan under CPEC are in fact "Chinese Prison Labour" , send here to "help" the local Pakis
So far, there has been no word from the Chinese embassy regarding the incident or the deportation of their citizens. However, prompt action from the Pakistani authorities has been applauded by many people. Expect more of these, in the near future , as the Paki Aam Abduls get fed up on the mollycoddling of these "heathen creatures" by their own Gober-ment, under the pretense of CPEC

The Border Security Force on Friday said a Harkat-ul-Ansar terrorist killed recently in south Kashmir was a cousin of Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi."Saquib, killed in Anantnag on Sunday following a tip-off, turned out to be a relative of Shahid Afridi," BSF Inspector General Vijay Raman said.
He based his claim on certain document found on the slain terrorist and the version of people who knew him.Saquib hailed from Peshawar, Pakistan, and had been active in Anantnag for about two years, Raman said.The IG said Saquib used to flaunt his relation with Afridi among the people in Anantnag.
"It is an open secret in Anantnag," he said."Initially we did not know whom we were tracking. It was only later when his identity was established by documents that we realised who he was." One more example of Taqiyya in action
