Re: The Red Menace
Heh, I am asking for posters to stop seeing it from a BJP prism and think of the establishment setup. And I am being accused of bringing BJP INC?!
PS: Piskologically, there is no consensus on taking the maoist menace, till the netas settle down on a consensus, pro-xyz wannabes will end up justifying this and that. So it is hard to take the parties out of their oiseaulish behavior.

Maoist leader Kishenji suggests ceasefire, talks
Each time they offer to ceasefire, they have their set of demands but over a period of time their "demands" for ceasefire have weakened. The violent ways of the Naxal are not exactly supported by the increasingly aware public and more naxals have been killed off late than any other time I heard before.
Clearly they are on the backfoot, I hope GoI realizes this and not take this offer from Kisan on face value, instead it steps up Ops. until the Naxals offer a ceasefire without conditions, no strings attached.
Even if the only way to end this insurgency is via talks, still we need a negotiating position of significant streangth.

Hasn't it been the case that the naxal terrorists always used ceasefire to regroup & replenish their military strength?

Re: The Red Menace
Raped repeatedly, Naxal leader quits Red ranks
The eerie calm in the dense sal forest is deafening. Walking along a snaking dirt track, a clear patch appears. Sitting on a rock, hidden by thick, emerald green foliage, is the diminutive figure of a woman, a gamchha (thin towel) covering her head. Her blue salwar-kameez meld with the surroundings. Her eyes dart around at the slightest hint of sound. Shobha Mandi, alias Uma, alias Shikha, gives a searching look and then smiles. The 23-year-old CPI-Maoist Jhargram area commander says she was expecting us.
From commanding 25-30 armed Maoist squad members, Uma turned a fugitive four months ago. She fled her command post on the plea of seeing a doctor. She hid with her aunt for a short while; and now she says she wants the world to know her story. She wants to surrender and is likely to give up Naxalism on August 26.
Why did she decide to shed her battle fatigues seven years after she joined the Naxals? "They committed injustices against which they claimed they were fighting," said Uma. "As a recruit, I protested against the habits of some leaders in the presence of Kishanji. Nobody liked it. The leaders instructed the squad members not to speak to me. I was isolated and warned of dire consequences if I protested," she said.
What didn't she like about the leaders? "They rape," she shot back, eyes flashing with rage. "After about a year of joining Naxals, I was put on night-long sentry duty at a forest camp in Jharkhand. Suddenly, out of the dark, Bikash (now, head of the state military commission) came up and asked me for water. As I turned to fetch it, he grabbed me and tried to do 'kharap kaaj' (indecent acts)." When she objected, Bikash threatened to strangle her. After forcing her into submission, Bikash raped her, she said. She was 17 then.
"He warned me against telling anyone about this. But, I told Akash (Kishanji's confidant and a state committee member). He said he would look into it but did nothing. In fact, Akash's wife, Anu, lives with Kishanji," Uma said.
Most women recruits are exploited by senior Maoists. Senior women leaders, too, have multiple sexual partners, Uma said. "If a member gets pregnant, she has no choice but to abort: A child is seen as a burden that hampers the agility of guerrillas."
Uma has heard tales of brutalization of other women Naxals, too. "Seema (then a recruit) told me that Akash raped her as well. Rahul (alias Ranjit Pal) raped Belpahari squad commander Madan Mahato's wife, Jaba. In this case, the party punished Rahul, who is a key weapons trainer at Maoist camps. He was removed from the regional committee for three months," said Uma.
State committee secretary Sudip Chongdar, alias Goutam, was also punished for similar acts, she said, and transferred to Jharkhand's West Singbhum district. Maoists divide time between forest camps and hideouts in villages. Villagers can't refuse shelter to gun-toting Maoists. Also, they must keep all night vigil to alert them against police raids. "When Sudip took shelter in villages, he raped women in their homes. They were too scared to protest," said Uma.
Many of her senior leaders exploited her sexually. One day, says Uma, Kamal Maity, who is a Bengal-Jharkhand-Orissa regional committee member, came to her rescue. At a meeting attended by Kishanji and other top Maoists, Kamal proposed a relationship with Uma. The leaders agreed. "After Jaba's incident, I learnt that a woman cadre is protected against sexual exploitation only if she is with a senior leader," she said. That was a turning point and she rose steadily in Naxal ranks.
Uma is on the police's most wanted list. She is suspected to have planned and executed a series of attacks, including the massacre of 24 EFR jawans in Silda (February 2010); a raid on Sankrail police station in which two policemen were killed and an officer abducted (October 2009). She is also one of the suspects in Jharkhand MP Sunil Mahato's murder in 2007.
She mentored PCPA members, including Bapi Mahato who is in jail for the Jnaneswari train sabotage. Last year, when the joint central and state forces advanced into Lalgarh to break an eight-month siege, she along with other Maoists fired at the police. In Jhargram, she is known as didi. According to a source, Uma single-handedly built up the PCPA at Jhargram.
Uma joined the rebels in 2003. CPI-Maoist hadn't been formed then. "I joined the People's War (PW) which later merged with MCC in 2004 to form CPI-Maoist," she said. She was given a new name, Uma. "I was plump. Anu (Akash's wife; Kishanji's companion) said I looked like Uma Bharti. So, she named me Uma."
Maoist leaders spotted her organizational skills. She was asked to mobilize tribals women at Jamboni and Dahijuri in West Midnapore. She also underwent three-month arms training at Jharkhand's Gorabandha forest. "First, we are taught with dummy weapons using tree branches. All recruits have to fire three bullets in their first session. Those who hit the target are picked for armed squads," she said.
In spite of guns and guerrilla warfare, the woman in her sometimes longs for simple pleasures like painting her nails or wearing earrings. But, she says, "We were not permitted to use even fragrant soaps, lest we get detected. Only Lifebuoy is used by cadres."
Did she join the rebels of her own free will? Circumstances, she said. Uma is second of four siblings. Along with their parents, they worked as wage earners on farms or collected sal leaves, mahua and red ants (kurkut) to sell. "I was good in studies but weak in math. I worked all day and studied at night," the girl from Khayerpahari village in West Bengal's Bankura district recounted. "I couldn't pass the Class X board."
This was in 2002. Younger brother Sanjay, who was in Class VIII, was already taken away by the extremists. He became a Lalgarh squad member and is in jail now. "My father, Jamadar Mandi, was an alcoholic suffering from tuberculosis. There was no money to buy him medicines. We sold our land and also borrowed money," Uma said.
While the family struggled, some "party" members offered help. "They gave my father some money and told me to join them. They said I could leave if I didn't like working with them," said Uma. The prospect of a job spurred her.
But only after she signed up did she realize she could never go home. "Whoever comes here, never returns," a senior leader told her. She wanted freedom from poverty but found herself chained to an ideology she couldn't understand.
After seven years of witnessing bloodletting, she has no fear of death. She now hopes the state she has fought against will rehabilitate her. "There are many in the Maoist ranks who would flee given half a chance," she said.

Acc to an article on a page inside TOI Kolkata edition, most of maosist commanders are expert in raping. They have multiple partners. So have female commanders as well, Kishan ji himself lives with the wife of a colleague commander
Re: The Red Menace
The perverts are truly liberated. How dare that woman leave the ranks of the Maoists in the middle of the glorious struggle for the Raping of the women of the liberated people.
Deserves the love of the maoists in the truest sense of the word.
On a serious note, I hope that the story of the lady is publicized and the maoists suffer a backlash from the Population. Interestingly Her story corroborates a comment from one of my Father's friend who is a teacher in the Maoist heartland, that the Maoists sexually abuse the female recruits.
Truly a monstrous Ideology, that has take hold in India.

Re: The Red Menace
Oh this is very much part and parcel of the "attraction" of the 'red boho' way.
Wife swapping, living in a commune, farming out women this is exactly what the Red rebel credo is about. I am sure a lot of people will remember them in their campus days. Even at a student level this is precisely how they used to behave.
Now cut to a poor forest girl and think what an effing hell her life is in this country. While she was picking leaves she may be raped by the "contractor', while complaining at the thana about this she may end up being done in by the "vardiwallahs" and when she goes to the Red rebs for "justice" they train a gun on her at night to get the "favours" that they need.
And there are many young women nay girls who would just remain silent because of the shame. We are used to seeing modern women in our workplaces , apparently self-confident but that is hardly the case. Women continue to bear multiple stigmas and if we are talking about a poor illiterate village woman you can effing well understand the impact on the psyche.
So first you have the "stockholm syndrome" where these young women go along with their "benefactors
" then the "I don't care phoolan devi stage" and finally the horrible realization that fate has "done them in". That is when a person like the one in the report surrenders.
But this is not just an example of how effed up the Reds are -They are scoundrels of the lowest order and this has been known for a longtime anyway. It is also a severe indictment of all us. Unfortunate as that sounds.
I believe that the only thing holding Mother India back is the fact that we don't respect its mothers enough.

DR, the solution is to stop seeing a woman as someones property. But for the Indian society thats easier said then done.

Re: The Red Menace
Well the Maoists are indeed not treating women as "private and personal property" isn't it - by sharing wives? These weaknesses have always been there in the "Left" movement just as they have been in the "right" and "center" and those "everywhere and anywhere" in the spectrum.
Rape was not very common in the early days - but most of the idealists have been liquidated. These guys are the hard survivors, and therefore likely to be cynical manipulators like mobsters who realize the vacuousness of their profession but cannot get out of it. Just like the mobsters they fill their emptiness with women and peculiar luxuries - like say a certain brand of "imported" cigarettes, or whisky. Not all at the top are like that - some are serial monogamists. Also they are under quite cracking pressure where stable relationships are broken down by long absences and presence of members of opposite gender close by. But in general most of the upper levels are into unstable and multiple simultaneous relationships - sexual jealousies did and do still wreak havoc as far as I know.
Mao himself changed wives twice with at least three official wives, and the first two literally abandoned with very tragic outcomes. Lenin had supposedly only one affair but was otherwise strict about "loose" sexual behaviour and severely rebuked Kollontai when she over-enthusiastically proposed abolishing "marriage". Stalin married twice but his second marriage was a love match undertaken long after being widowed. He is reputed to have flirted a lot resulting in suicide of her second wife - but he never married again. But at least these were monogamists - serial or not. How do the Maoists of India justify their actions - they have no precedence in the august theoretical palace of Marxism!

You have not heard about Mao's personal physician who wrote about his sexual exploits with several women? Same goes for Castro. Their rapist goon puppets in India obviously do not talk about these things. When you embrace an ideology of mass murderers and genocidal maniacs, you have to be perverted in some form or the other - like Pol Pot, Causescu, Dear/Great leader Kim & son....the list is endless..
So our Maoist comrades and their Stalinist Nandigram rapist goon counterparts have an illustrious lineage to learn from and emulate...and they have a brigade of yellow media and fake womens lib organisations to sing their tune..

Re: The Red Menace
Suppiah ji,
err..I was only discussing "wives".
In the struggling days, plenty of outsider and insider observers vouch for relatively stricter "marital/relationship" regimes within the party controlling and regulating behaviour etc, during the pre Hunan stage. It is still the practice for core members or post holders to officially or unofficially seek party approval before tying the knot in most communist parties. In India, during the emergency or "underground" even the regular party formally gave "party marriages" or a kind of party registration of marriages.
Formally Mao most likely had an arranged marriage in traditional form from his village. This is controversial though. But the first well known relationship and marriage was with the daughter of his Peiping university prof and mentor - who was also one of the two profs who first started the Marxist movement in China. This lady and her son with Mao fell into the hands of the Kuo-min-dang during the Shanghai massacre period while Mao was away with his miners. The mother and son were publicly executed. Mao's second wife was a landlord's daughter who fell in love with him during the early base-area days and joined and stayed with the Red Army. They had a child who was left with a peasant family during the long march and was never found again. Agnes Smedley writes about the daily life of Mao and it is obvious that this second wife was quite devoted to Mao. But even this wife was abandoned and Mao used his party stature to force a divorce to allow the ambitious city based actress who was pursuing Mao in the northern base.
Compared to this most of Stalin's life actually appears quite free of such escapades. Except in the late 30's until the suicide of his second wife, for about 2-3 years he is supposed to have flirted with an "actress" to make his wife "jealous" who was aseen witha lot of young guns like "Khruschev". But even the prolific Russian gossip mill has rarely produced stories of indiscretions - even in the post Stalin period when it was normal to bash Stalin.
An early 20th century Bengali columnist transliterated "communist" as "kama-nistha" - devoted to "kama".

Cops seek Dhoni's help in anti-Maoist campaign
Police want a video message from Dhoni appealing to the Maoists to shun violence and join the mainstream of society.
The state police also want Dhoni to appeal to the people not to support the left wing extremists and not join their rank and file.
Dhoni has yet to give his consent to the state police's request. Dhoni is on the hit list of the Maoist rebels and has been provided Y-category security cover.
In the past, Dhoni has supported causes and drives like against child labour and to promote children's education.
