“Alhamdulillah, I have personal and ideological relations with the Taliban as well as with the government and the army. When we proposed that the government dissolve the earlier committee, the PM asked what if a need arose for our role in the next committee and I volunteered myself.”
Others however take a less kindly view.

Chaos in Faizabad - Edit in DT
Security officials say the bomb was a one or two kilogram device placed in or near a drainpipe on the former president's route and his spokespersons say that he was clearly a target for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) that admittedly hold a visceral hatred for him. However, yesterday's attack does not bear the hallmarks of the TTP who usually aim to create as much death and destruction as possible. Their natural target would be the Faizabad bridge itself, with its heavy traffic and the possibility of numerous civilian casualties, the bomb being a distraction while gunmen move in for the kill. This is their now recognised modus operandi. That the bomb exploded after the convoy passed and the incident occurred as discussions about the government allowing General Musharraf to leave the country are heating up has led some sceptics to argue that the military might have orchestrated a minor incident in order to convince the government. However, speculation of this nature tends to malign the armed forces, which one hopes would never engage in violent subterfuge and damage the country's infrastructure just to make a political point.

Who - and what - was Bhutto?

CheersThe human condition
He was a crook and an impostor. He was a visionary and a revolutionary. He was a fascist. He was a social democrat. He was nothing but a Sindhi wadera. He was a murderer. He is a martyr. He was too many things to too many men. Whatever he was, he was a bit too much for the military, the bureaucracy and a large section of the urban middle class. He had to be gotten rid of. He was gotten rid of.

Today almost all the comic text messages circulated via mobile phones are related to Pathans and Sikhs. This is the result of a particular kind of education we have been experiencing in Pakistan.Urdu is imposed at the cost of others as it has always been deemed a tool to unnaturally homogenise the diverse cultural landscape of Pakistan. The recent resolution by the National Assembly Standing Committee for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage to have a commission on the language issue in Pakistan, though, is a positive step but is in no way a solution to the need to preserve and promote linguistic diversity.

Dronacharya will Keep Distributing Passport to Jhaannat
NEW YORK: The CIA drone operations in Pakistan may continue long after US troops have left Afghanistan, The New York Times said on Saturday, revealing that CIA, not military, would remain in charge of drone operations. However, there have been no drone strikes since the government in Islamabad formally entered peace talks with Taliban, according to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, a group that tracks drone strikes In Pakistan,But American officials told the newspaper that the drone programme there could continue for years, and Pakistan’s government has long insisted that it be run by the CIA, not the US military. This was one of the terms of deal reached a decade ago between the Bush administration and Pervez Musharraf, then the president of Pakistan, who said he would allow armed drone strikes in the country’s tribal areas only if they were conducted as a CIA covert action and not acknowledged by either country. For Pakistan to agree to any changes in this arrangement, the United States would most likely have to agree to integrating Pakistan’s military into the drone operations.A White House spokeswoman told NYT there had been “no change in policy” since President Obama’s speech last May announcing changes to the targeted killing policy.
The newspaper report which claims to examine CIA’s role and the plan to refocus the agency from active operations, the paper quotes a CIA spokesperson as saying. “The plan is to transition to these standards and procedures over time, in a careful, coordinated and deliberate manner.”Caitlin Hayden, the spokeswoman, added: “I’m not going to speculate on how long the transition will take, but we’re going to ensure that it’s done right and not rushed.”It was during the string of revolts across the Arab world several years ago that concerns first surfaced that the years of focus on targeting terrorists had undermined the CIA’s ability to forecast and analyse global events. In Egypt, the agency had few sources beyond Omar Suleiman. The country’s intelligence chief and one of the agency’s closest partners in the Middle East, Mr Suleiman, was not about to give the CIA an honest assessment of the fragility of President Hosni Mubarak’s government. And in Jordan, it is the CIA rather than the Pentagon that is running a programme to arm and train Syrian rebels — a concession to the Jordanian government -- which will not allow an overt military presence in the country, the newspaper said.

New locos to ‘anchor’ railway
A ship carrying five completely built-up locomotives, each having capacity of 2,000 horsepower, entered Pakistani waters and docked for unloading, an official of the Ministry of Railways told Dawn on Sunday.
“Down payment to Chinese company CSR Zihang was made in September last year and the PR is likely to get all the 58 locomotives – 29 of 2,000 HP and as many of 3,000 HP -- in phases by the end of this year. Addition of new locomotives will help further improve punctuality of passenger trains in particular and better freight service in general,” said the official.

Pakistani cricket players standing on outside and still looking in at IPL
read rest on the websiteIt is one thing to have to perform while in forced exile from your home – that has been difficult enough for Pakistan – but that can only be compounded by being exiled from your home in exile.
The UAE has been their home for more than five years. They have played 76 international matches here since 2006, and there has been no indication that will change.
Yet the Pakistan players are excluded from the biggest cricket event the UAE has hosted.
That has been standard policy in every IPL season, apart from the first in which 11 Pakistani cricketers played.
It has become an annual ritual.
As auction time approaches, people start to wonder whether Pakistan’s cricketers will be in it.
Players and officials from Pakistan will make some noises about wanting to be involved, and a board or franchise official from India will express, in the most guarded way, an interest in taking them on.
Then it will emerge they have not been included in the auction list, which will prompt outrage, although that is less each year it happens and becomes more normal.![]()
This year it was the turn of Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain, Mohammad Hafeez, to have a little pop.
“It is strange that for years now Pakistani players have not been allowed to play in the IPL because it is a world-class league and there is so much to learn from it,” he told the Express newspaper.
“I played in the first season of the IPL and I got a chance to share the dressing room with greats like Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting and it was a great learning experience. I believe that what our players are missing out the most is this aspect of playing in the IPL.”
Certainly it is hard to believe that there would not have been demand for players of the calibre of Umar Akmal, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi, and Ahmed Shehzad had they been available to the eight franchises to select.
Then, by the time the tournament is to begin, the Pakistan absence is forgotten. It continues to be one of the biggest blots on the IPL.
The most aggravating aspect of this is that it is still not clear why they continue to be left out of the most lucrative league in cricket.
When they missed out in 2009, after having made a successful impact in 2008, it was understood.
The terror attacks on Mumbai in November 2008 and the subsequent chill in political and diplomatic ties between the two countries meant it was inevitable Pakistani players would not be there.
It is worth pointing out that, although some were included in the auction that year, it was the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that refused to let them play.
A few years later, after he had been deposed, former commissioner Lalit Modi claimed that the Indian board had arm-twisted franchises into not picking Pakistani players that season.
Since then it has only got more confusing. In 2010, there seemed to be the will from both countries to make it happen. Despite delays, necessary government clearances were obtained. Names were included in the auction.
All, however, went unsold.
That was a particularly stinging rebuke to Pakistan. Their players had won the World Twenty20 the previous June and could justifiably be considered among the best in the world. They talked of being humiliated, and that was echoed by Shah Rukh Khan, the Bollywood star who owns the Kolkata Knight Riders.
“I think it is actually humiliating to me as a KKR owner that this has happened,” he said.

Chittagong Tribunal Verdict and its Implications for India - Rupak Bhattacharjee, IDSA
The verdict thoroughly exposed the international conspiracy that was hatched by various organisations and personnel to destabilise India’s restive North Eastern region. According to the charge-sheet, all the arms and ammunition were manufactured by Chinese firm NORINCO. The funds had been procured from Pakistan. The weapons were purchased with the help of a UAE-based firm belonging to a Pakistani businessman and brought to the Chittagong port in a ship that had come from Hong Kong via Singapore.
Several meetings reportedly took place in Bangladesh and abroad before the April 2004 seizure. Former NSI Director Abdur Rahim allegedly met the officials of Pakistan’s ARY Group and ISI on many occasions. During the interrogation, another ex-NSI Director, Sahabuddin had spoken about the arms smuggling plan. He had a meeting with the ISI officials to facilitate the arms delivery.
During the trial proceedings, the prosecution revealed how the ISI had hatched conspiracy in collaboration with the pro-Islamabad lobby of Bangladesh and the secessionist forces of India.

In that IPL article a sentence is telling.
So from issuing terror threats demanding money, they are now issuing match fixing threats to demand money. Jo lahore mein....
Translation: Because Pakistani players can't make money off of IPL, they had no choice except to fix matches to make money. The lucrativeness of the IPL dwarfs all other leagues and Pakistan’s players are among the least well-remunerated. the spot-fixing scandal of 2010 was widely thought to be a partial corollary of constantly missing out on the IPL.

QUETTA: Frontier Corps claimed to have killed more than 30 militants in Balochistan's Kalat and Khuzdar districts on Monday, according to an official. "So far more than 30 miscreants have been killed in the operation", Wasey said adding that "Forces also destroyed six vehicles of miscreants".The spokesperson however said that ten security personnel also sustained injuries during the operation. "There is an intense firing between forces and miscreants", Wasey said. The situation in the area was tense as the clash between security forces and armed militants continued. Moreover, provincial interior minister Sarfraz Bugti said security forces seized a large quantity of weapons during the raids and that ten members of the paramilitary force were wounded in the fighting. The claims could not be verified by independent sources.Kalat and Khuzdar are considered to be the most sensitive districts of Balochistan. Militants in the area have been targeting vital national installations and security forces for last more than a decade in the area. In another incident, an army helicopter made a mysterious emergency landing on Monday morning in Kalat district of Balochistan . Initial media reports had claimed that the helicopter had crashed after getting tangled in electricity wires soon after take-off.However, Brigadier Abdul Rahim of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Quetta, said that a MI-17 cargo helicopter was on a routine flight when it developed some technical fault.“ All crew members, including the pilot, remained safe in the incident,” he added.

RAW AL PINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif said on Monday that the army respects all the institutions of the country but will also preserve its own dignity and institutional pride at all costs, stated an official press release. The army chief was addressing his officers at Special Services Group (SSG) headquarters in Tarbela where he made these remarks in response to soldiers’ concerns over “undue criticism of the [army] in recent days.”The criticism he referred to in his statement is most likely related to the treason trial of former army chief and president Pervez Musharraf. It was earlier reported that General Raheel had advised the government to let Musharraf go abroad for his medical treatment and to look after his ailing mother.During his visit to the SSG headquarters, the army chief said Pakistan Army has contributed immensely towards national security and nation building and will continue to deliver on its mission.“The army never has and never will shy away from rendering any sacrifice in ensuring a formidable defense and security of the motherland,” ( Kuffaa Kuffar Kuffa) he was quoted as saying in the ISPR press release.
Last month, a special court indicted Musharraf on five counts of treason over his suspension of the constitution and imposition of emergency rule in 2007, when he was trying to extend his rule.Musharraf’s indictment has broken an unwritten rule that the top ranks of the military are untouchable. He has pleaded not guilty and faces the death penalty if convicted.Musharraf was forced to step down as president in 2008 after street protests spearheaded by the judiciary and an election in which his political supporters fared poorly against a pro-democracy party. He returned to Pakistan in March 2013 after nearly four years of self-imposed exile to contest a general election in May that year but was disqualified because of court cases pending against him.Since then, he has faced a series of charges including murder in connection with the assassination in 2007 of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.Musharraf has denied all the charges, dismissing them as politically motivated, and is living under house arrest in his farmhouse on the outskirts of Islamabad.
