The Freedoms: Thou shalt not take the lord's name in vain
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
keywords: freedom, excellence, civics, separation of church and state, branches of government
(January 27, U-NSN staff volunteer; uncredited) As our president goes to church, every Sunday, to better justify his middle name we are reminded of a curious set of events. There was a
young man. To say he was young, is right. To say he was a child, perhaps not, but even that is wrong only in the great American context. Like all young men, he was both
productive and
arrogant. Then, on January 11, 2013 he very foolishly went and died.
Now, for youth,
this is somewhat of a tradition in america. Second only to
to the other great tradition that provides the budgets of our religious institutions, who's names can not be invoked either. But it is more common in colored people. This young man had a melanin deficiency. Some say, he was one of the chosen people. But that is neither here, nor there.
And for additional unrelated context, we cite more evidence. Thou
shalt not take the
lord's name in vain. For example,
someone tried. He almost got through the first three letters, before the high priest was
incensed. The actual tweets are image-archived somewhere, if someone can post them, U-NSN would be grateful.
Are these two incidents related, of course not. Why should we stretch our minds to make connections? They are just random events. And in any case, both times the civil society rose to new heights. The
ACLU was on the phone to the media within minutes.
Christopher Soghoian, a friend of Green's who was briefly enrolled in the same Hopkins doctoral program, is now the American Civil Liberties Union's principal technologist and senior policy analyst with its Project on Speech, Privacy and Technology. Soghoian said the incident could raise questions about the Applied Physics Laboratory and the amount of influence it has over other parts of the university. "Even if no one at the NSA picked up the phone, there may have been some self-censorship coming out of APL hoping to preserve their good working relationship with the NSA," Soghoian said.. The
intellectual masterbation (
2,
3,
4) was unprecedented. All respected outlets, TV, radio, you name it and they chimed in, unmindful of the consequences. People were practically sharpening their pitchforks -- this is a tradition in America for those not from here -- and out to get the high-priest.
Naturally, the
high-priest soon apologized.
"“Dear Matt… I write to apologize for any difficulty I caused you yesterday over the post on your blog,” wrote Douglas. “I realize now that I acted too quickly, on the basis of inadequate and – as it turns out – incorrect information.”. The civil society had won the day, hooray for democracy. You see, freedom still lives. Everything is benign.
And yet, on
an anniversary of an event,
friends of the young man will be
dancing on his grave unmindful of the consequences. Or around his urn, not sure which is the case. Others have already taken paint-brushes, and
colored the academic landscape red. Each looking to satisfy only their own ego and a need for publicity, an exercise in
"freedom" that clearly still exists and in no way related to career progression, drug-induced or hormonal exuberance, or the mandatory 15 minutes of fame.
So U-NSN must also be able to take the name of the lord then? We try,
"M…..",
"Mu……",
"Mph…..". It doesn't work. We need remedial therapy,
or you can't really take the lord's name in vain. Or put any three letters in sequence? Had the high-priest really been defeated? Did the temples really show
remorse. Or is the truth the casualty here? Therein, young padawan, lies the lesson:
A
precedent (noun, earlier event or action): thou shalt not take the name of the lord in vain, or speak of him in unkind terms, or scrutinize his actions. For his retribution is swift, and you are but a tiny speck on this rock (flat, pizza shaped) around which the a lord-lit lamp shines only due to his grace (oh, and tied down your car engine too, they have a tendency to jump a hundred feet for no reason).
Editor's note 1: One wonders how a polytheist would deal with this commandment. For every name appears to be a lord's name, or of a king of lord, or the son of lord, or of the third cousin of the lord twice-removed. Perhaps, china has taken the right approach. Unless of course, you try the name
buddha, and then you would be in the wrong place.
Editor's note 2: No, this is not meant to be coherent. Real events rarely are. And if the truth was so self-evident and visible, we would all still be single-cell organisms. At the end, the question must be,
What the hell is he talking about?, or we have failed.
