And it should be made very clear to stone pelters unofficially that bodies of slain Militants will not be handed over to people in encounters where forces were attacked by the people. Simple as that - If a Terrorist is spotted he/she will be killed and body will only be handed over to his family if local if there was trouble created by his supporters during the encounter. Enough!

I was following some Kashmiri handles yesterday on this encounter thing. Disparate handles had surprisingly all the details about happening on the ground. Seem to be local from the area of encounter.

It seems the entire Hizbul leadership team for the region was trapped. The handles even gave out the names of the 05 terrorists involved. All local guys it seems. What also emerged was that these militants called up their families in the area over mobile as well. And people gathered in the area to save their own. This gives credence to what Lt. General Hooda (retd), ex-Northern Army commander, said in interview to Shekhar Gupta - that locals do this antics when local militants are involved.

The locals definitely tried to disrupt the operations but it seems security forces did not allow them to get into actual engagement site. The house was raised to the ground - good that IA did not take chances with CQB and lead to unnecessary casualties. Also, what the handles shared was that unlike Shopian, the ops was not let go off at night. The cordon persisted and I think given the high value targets, IA was keen to eliminate them.

This stone pelting $hit has gone long enough, put the state under governors rule and take some hard actions. Time to put them in their place.

Sometime back I was talking to some people who have sarkari jobs in J&K and are posted in Kashmir or spend 6 months there every year.

These (Hindu) employees often have long candid chats with their muslim co-workers. Following are some of more interesting ones:

1) We (Kashmiri muslim) would like that our women should be able to walk around without hijab or burqa like non-muslims do. But we're afraid because if we do anything like that our houses would be stoned or we will face harassment in numerous other ways.

2) A KM woman to a Hindu woman co-worker, " We teach our children a lot about god, religion so that they stay true to path and have ethics. We are very religious. Why don't you people teach your children to be more religious ? You hardly make them follow any religious customs.
Hindu woman's reply, "We teach our children to be good humans rather than being religious and they're happy, compassionate and prosperous. You teach your children your religion and most of them end up being terrorists, stone throwers or louts living on Indian government's dole. Tell me now which one is better ?"

3) KM - We want to be more connected to India. We know there is no future with Pakistan. But even if we try to act neutral, then we face threats and harassment.

4) Hardly anyone used to wear burqa in offices atleast. But there are some women who've started to do so and even their co-workers haven't seen their faces even after almost one year of working in same room.

Some major points:

1) Islamism is well entrenched and alive among many common muslim kashmiris.
2) Moderates are present, but most of them are too afraid to speak up.
3) We need a very nuanced approach to win people over by saam, daam, dand and bhed. Punish the islamists, reward the moderates and drive a wedge between them. This needs a very good and widespread ground intelligence network.
4) Stone throwers are not just anti-India louts. They're being used to muffle voices of dissent and drive fear just like terrorists did. But they stay mostly nameless and in shadows. This mafia needs to be broken down asap.

jamwal ji..occasional bumping of local terrorist parents/siblings along with destruction of their houses should be the first steps. I am sorry but the Hindus have not understood the psyche of the mullahs even after 1400 yrs !! however u r right..saam daam dand bhed are required..but more of dand and bhed !!. When the indian dand gets bigger than the paki dand in the valley things will return to normal. there is no fear of indian state in the valley...

and i think India should encourage flying of ISIS flags etc in valley..i think it gives us a useful tool to take harsh action and paint these looneys in bad light.. i dont know why we get so worked up ? and its true there is not much love for Pakis in valley... they have lost the goodwill but their dand is very much there in the valley. i also know quite a few KM..boatwallas..taxi wallas and there is not much love for pakis..though its good tool to tease the Indians ! the role of mullahs in the mosque is very nefarious..they are the root of the trouble.

regarding the status of women in J&K
In case the Wife of a male state subject: The female is registered as state subject and so do her children.
However for a Husband of a female state subject: Neither Man, nor the children get state subject.
Woe betide the children of such a marriage if the women is widowed/ divorced/ separated and returns to her parents home in J&K.
Now the Govt of J&K has constituted a committee to look into the matter with no representation from Jammu
http://www.kashmirlife.net/jk-constitut ... ts-134073/
Headed by Advocate General Jahangir Iqbal Ganai, the committee includes Commissioner/Secretary Revenue Mohammed Asharaf Mir, Commissioner/Secretary Law Abdul Majeed Bhat and Special Secretary Revenue Farooq Ahmed. Considered as experts in Revenue mattes, Advocate H.A.Siddiqui and Advocate N.H.Shah have been included as Special Invitees. The committee was constituted after the intervention of Governor N.N.Vohra.
and here is an opinion of a worthy member of the committee in the article linked above
The member, talking to Kashmir Life anonymously, said that if the children are granted state subject right, that would amount to violation of the Section 6 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, read with Article 35-A of the Constitution of India.
Incidentally Article 35-A of the Constitution of India was introduced not through the Constitutent Assembly. Article 35A was not added to the Constitution by following the procedure prescribed for amendment of the Constitution of India under Article 368, but by a Presidential order.
So much for Constitutional Propriety

With bullets in his body, jawan killed in Tral laid a trap for terrorists
ral: A 33-year-old Jammu and Kashmir policeman, who was soon to be a father, lost his life in his second attempt to flush out militants holed up in a house in Tral after miraculously escaping a volley of fire the first time round.Constable Manzoor Ahmed Naik came forward on two occasions after senior officers decided to bring down the house at Reshipora from which the two militants had continued firing on the police, Army and CRPF.
Undeterred by blazing fire from assault rifles, the braveheart crawled in the pitch dark and placed charges (explosives used for road construction) around the house, a senior officer recalled. The constable came under heavy fire from an AK rifle as he started retreating towards his position but managed to escape, they said."Koi baat nahi (don't worry)," was his nonchalant reply when it was pointed out to him that he would have been killed and that he should not take such risks. The explosives planted by him, though, brought down only half of the house. The situation was tense as people in the nearby locality were protesting and social media was abuzz with rumours to mobilize more people, an officer said. The firing then stopped and following a wait of two hours, Naik again volunteered to plant explosives to bring down what remained of the house, after an Army Major suffered serious gunshot injuries. As he charged towards the house this time, he was hit by a volley of bullets from a militant. Despite his wounds, Naik planted the explosives on remaining part of the house before breathing his last.
Survived by a four-year-old son Aarzoo, a pregnant wife and two unemployed brothers, the resident of Salamabad in Uri (North Kashmir) was the lone bread-earner for his family. He had announced to his senior officer earlier that he was proceeding on leave as his wife was expecting."It's sad that we have lost a boy whose love for his duty and motherland will not go waste. The supreme sacrifice made by the Constable boosts the moral of Jammu and Kashmir police. I salute the brave heart," Director General of Police S P Vaid said after the wreath laying ceremony held for the martyred policeman. Both militants, one of whom was from Pakistan, were killed in the encounter. One of the militants was a Hizbul Mujahideen operative identified as Aaquib Bhat, popularly known as Aaquib Maulvi, who was active in the area for the last three years. The other, Saif-ul-lah alias Osama, was a Pakistani terrorist working with Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Anti-militancy operations called off - Peerzada Ashiq, The Hindu
Growing public interference in anti-militancy operations forced the security force to call off two anti-militancy operations in south Kashmir in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, the LeT heaped praise on the people. A search-and-cordon team of the Army and the police came under heavy stone pelting in Kulgam’s Mohamadpora village on Tuesday, thus delaying the operation.
This is exactly what Gen. rawat was alluding to.

India snubs new UN chief, rejects Kashmir mediation

NEW DELHI: India has again reiterated that only a bilateral solution to the Kashmir issue is possible, amid signs that new United Nations (UN) secretary general Antonio Gutterres was looking at ways to break the deadlock between the two nations.

Responding to reports that Guterres was considering opening a conversation with senior Indian and Pakistani officials on Kashmir, government sources said, "Our position on addressing all issues between India and Pakistan bilaterally has not changed."

Guterres' spokesperson Farhan Haq was quoted as saying that the secretary general "will talk to different officials if it helps (to) move the process along. That's something that he is looking into. Beyond that, I have nothing new to say about the issue".

Haq was answering journalists' questions about the situation in Kashmir, and if Guterres had been able to understand the Kashmir dispute and would he be talking to PM Narendra Modi to start a dialogue with Pakistan.

When asked if there was a timeline as to when the UN chief would talk to leaders from the two countries, Haq said that, as with any number of long-running situations, there were "a lot of complex issues" that needed to be examined. The UN chief "will... certainly...try to see what can be done to improve the situation on the ground", Haq said.

Pakistan has repeatedly asked the UN to intervene in Kashmir, particularly after the months-long unrest and violence in the Kashmir Valley last year.

Guterres' predecessor Ban Ki-moon had expressed concern at the violence, but refrained from offering facilitation or mediation. India has been opposed to any third party involvement since 1972.

Hizb says 'focus on enforcing Sharia, not Kashmir nationalism'

NEW DELHI: A top Hizbul Mujahideen militant Zakir Bhat alias Musa has indicated a change in the militant group's goal -- focus on Islamic Sharia and not on Kashmiri nationalism.

In a 12-minute long video, Musa urged his supporters to stop looking at the United Nations (UN) or United States (US) for a resolution to Kashmir issue. Instead, he appealed to people to turn to hardline Islam, a hint at the outfit's change in stance. The militant outfit's stand till now has been "preparing the ground for the implementation of UN resolutions" in Kashmir.

"Don't pick stones for a nation or Kashmir. They (youth) should think before taking up stones in their hands that they are not doing it for nationalism or democracy. Both are not allowed in Islam," Musa said while urging youth to shun Kashmiri 'nationalism'.

"Musa said, implying that attacking with stones during Jihad is allowed in Islam."

Burhan Wani's successor Musa joined militant ranks in 2013 after leaving his engineering degree midway.

Musa has again threatened Jammu and Kashmir policemen and informers while warning of an "upcoming war" in the region through social media.

"Many people say the local policemen are our own. Don't think they (cops) are our brothers. They are supporting infidels and this is my last warning before the beginning of war," Musa said.

Sporting a Chitrali cap, the 22-year-old Musa also thanked locals for supporting militants and disrupting counter-insurgency operations. He appealed to youth to inform about movement of security forces in their neighbourhoods.

"If they (youth) see the movement of security forces, they should post it on social media," he emphasised.

This is the third video message from the Hizbul militant since 2016.

Don’t declare Gilgit-Baltistan as a province, Pak. warned - Peerzada Ashiq, The Hindu
Separatists on Friday opposed the Pakistan government’s move to declare Gilgit-Baltistan as its fifth province.

In a joint statement, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik said, “Kashmir, Ladakh, Jammu, Azad Kashmir [Pakistan-occupied Kashmir] and Gilgit-Baltistan is a single entity.”

The separatists said since the political destiny of Jammu and Kashmir was yet to be decided any proposal to declare Gilgit-Baltistan as the fifth State of Pakistan was “unacceptable.”
Referring to Pakistan as “a prime party to the Kashmir issue”, the separatists said such a step may hamper the disputed status of Kashmir. “Both India and Pakistan have no authority or right to alter the geographical status of the State,” they added.

Recently, a committee, headed by Pakistan’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, had proposed giving the status of a province to Gilgit-Baltistan.

The separatist leaders should understand at least the sentiment of the Indian government - Even though they had quite a few good reasons to do so, so far it refused to trifercate the state into Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir. Militancy problems would be so much easier to solve if India had done it. It also has precedence of many other big states and if resolved Article 370 could have been diluted in the other newly formed states even if kept it in the valley.
But India did not do it. But the nautanki baaz across the borders playing "Azad Kashmir" obeyed their master China to annex Gilgit/Baltistan. Hope these Miltants train their guns against them. Anyways, the new Wani replacement has already indicated a complete dilution of Nationhood of the state. So no wonder some elements would support piecing of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and either selling it to China or ending up as new provinces of Pakistan. No wonder what is left for them to fight for is this fictitious Islamic state.

‘88 Kashmiri youth took to militancy in 2016’ - The Hindu
The data show a steady increase in the number of youths taking up arms in the Valley from 2014.

In 2010, 54 youths joined militancy while in 2011 the number came down to 23. It further dipped to 21 in 2012 and 16 in 2013, the reply said.

In 2014, the number shot up to 53 and in 2015 it reached 66 before touching the highest mark in six years (88) in 2016, the data said.

“The State of Jammu and Kashmir has been affected by terrorism sponsored and supported from across the border. The levels of terrorist violence in the hinterland of Jammu and Kashmir are linked to infiltration from across the border,” Mr. Ahir said. The data on infiltration shows that about 121 terrorists had sneaked into the country in 2012, the highest in six years, followed by 119 in 2016.

“The counter terrorism efforts saw the best figures in 2010, when 81 per cent of infiltration attempts were thwarted by security forces, with only 95 terrorists entering the country as against 489 attempts,” the data said.

In 2011, 52 terrorists had crossed over against 247 infiltration attempts, while in 2013, 97 ultras managed to sneak in against 277 attempts, it said. In 2014, 222 terrorists tried to enter the country, but only 65 could do it and in 2015, 121 ultras made such attempts but only 33 of them were successful, the data said.

UK Parliament passes resolution dleclaring Gilgit-Baltistan as integral part of India illegally annexed by Pak
A motion was passed in the British Parliament condemning Islamabad's announcement declaring Gilgit-Baltistan as its fifth frontier, saying the region is a legal and constitutional part of Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied by Pakistan since 1947.The motion which was tabled on 23 March and sponsored by Conservative Party leader Bob Blackman, stated that Pakistan by making such an announcement is implying its attempt to annex the already disputed area."Gilgit-Baltistan is a legal and constitutional part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India, which is illegally occupied by Pakistan since 1947, and where people are denied their fundamental rights including the right of freedom of expression," the motion read.It was further noted that the attempts to change the demography of the region was in violation of State Subject Ordinance and the 'forced and illegal construction' of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) further aggravated and interfered with the disputed territory. With Pakistan planning to declare Gilgit-Baltistan region as its fifth province, the Baloch leaders have warned Islamabad of serious repercussions stating that this development will only lead to massive resistance by the people of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).The Gilgit-Baltistan area is Pakistan's northernmost administrative territory that borders the disputed Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

UK is trading nation. Conservatives were not puki lovers, Labour is. It knows that if it does not side with India it will forever loose chance for a free trade deal which can easily replace whole of EU as export market in 20 years time. By siding with India they are sending clear message of business.

I think Brits are pissed off about Pakistan's dealings with China in Kashmir regarding the economic corridor and China's tightening grip over the area. The Whites are interested in Kashmir issue as long as it serves their interests in undermining India and keeping the pot boiling. If China steps in their shoes, they will hit back at Pakistan.

Budgam encounter ends after militant killed, 3 civilians also lose life
Three civilians were killed in security forces' action against protesters near an encounter site in Budgam district in Kashmir during an anti-militancy operation which ended with the killing of the lone militant.
"One militant has been killed and a weapon has been recovered from the scene of the encounter," an army official said.
The encounter has ended, a police official said adding that one para trooper also sustained injuries.
Three civilians - all young men in their twenties - were killed while 18 others were injured in security forces' action against a large number of protesters who pelted stones on the law enforcing personnel allegedly in a vain bid to help the holed up militant escape. :rotfl:
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Durbugh area of Chadoora in the early hours today following information about the presence of militants in the area, the police official said.
He said the search operation turned into a gunbattle after the militant opened firing on security forces.
The slain civilians have been identified as Zahid Dar, Saqib Ahmad and Ishfaq Ahmad Wani.
All of them had firearm injuries, the official said.
Clashes between protesters and security forces were going on till reports last came in, he added.

The trend of civilians assembling near encounter sites and engaging security forces in clashes emerged last year.
It has continued even after Army Chief Bipin Rawat warned the youth against interfering in anti-militancy operations and the state administration imposing Section 144 within three kilometre radius of the encounter site.

Good job, but there is limit to how far it can be stretched. Perhaps joint teams where army hunts for terrorist pigs and police these straightens these local pigs. Killing will make these martyrs and has a chance of things spiralling out of control. Would be good to have a Rashtriya Rifles kind of
anti terror team operating with police to handle these local "civilian" jihadis. That hounds these civilians and their families. Afterall, these people should be more vulnerable than the terrorists

It's simple. The moment they physically get in the way of security forces in the line of action or throw stones or other weapons while an operation is going on, they are active combatants and not civilians anymore. This isn't a hippie anti-war protest or peace march and they don't need to be treated with kid gloves - in fact the situation got to this point because they were allowed to do stuff like that with impunity. Once they know that the forces have clearance to hit back and will do so, much of this bravado will vanish. No army in the world will put up with crap like this while they are under active fire with terrorists, and those killed are unlikely to get any sympathy from anyone who matters (the usual suspects like pakis and aakar patel of course will whine).

The forces should also start using pellets liberally to deal with such people.

Now, a grenade with spicy jelly to tackle protests in Jammu-Kashmir
The oleoresin based shells are simple to operate and user-friendly to control an unruly mob. The body of the grenades is made of plastic which melts when the grenade bursts, making throwing it back difficult.

Immediately after exploding, it emits gas which causes breathing difficulty and irritation in eyes.

Paintballs is my solution. Outranges most stones, hurts like a bitch, ruins the clothes and marks the perp for future action.

It is really difficult to understand why these people willing to risk their lives for a worthless terrorist.. How these pak sympathizer s are able gather such a large mob of stone pelters on relatively short notice every time .. we must be able to strike at weakest link in their modus operandi.. stone pelting on every army operation is getting out of hand and it sure is giving us very bad publicity internationaly.
