Now it's getting interesting. Empire Strikes Back?

Special prosecutor in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case killed

More details in the BBC report:

Bhutto murder case prosecutor shot dead in Islamabad

Already discussed here but, for the record:
Mr Musharraf - who dismisses the accusations as politically motivated - is currently under house arrest over the assassination.

Mr Ali's killing comes less than two weeks before Pakistan's national elections.

CNN's Paki reporter has shown his Pakiness by not telling the readers that the killed special prosecutor was also the prosecutor in Mumbai 26/11 case. Maybe the reporter didn't want to remind readers of 26/11.

In other news, a Pakistani inmate attacked by Indian prisoners in a Jammu jail. In serious condition.

Two mangoes in one stone. When the BB thing happened, I said it was the work of Mushy & Chaudhry Shujaat. I still maintain that. Let us see what comes out, if anything comes out at all.

Added: Three mangoes then.

OK interesting. This is what the updated CNN report says:
Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali was heading to a court in Rawalpindi, where he was trying the case of former presidential candidate Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated during her campaign.
And this is what an April 24 report in the Express Tribune said (Link):
The prosecutor and the FIA were asked to complete their investigation against the ex-general and submit a challan at the next hearing on May 3.
So Chaudhury saab was on his way to court in Rawlpindi to submit this challan? And he gets gunned down in via classic ISI execution modus operandi? And quite conveniently lawyers start a strike and stall court proceedings to protest this murder? All a bit coy isn't it?

Just for completeness of this post, here's some background from Tribune link:
Earlier in the day, FIA’s Special Public Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali had obtained an order to present Musharraf before the court from the judge and the Rawalpindi police was directed to present him in court. He obtained the order after a rift developed between Islamabad and Rawalpindi police on who would transport Musharraf from his Chak Shahzad farmhouse, now a sub-jail, to ATC-1.

At the start of the proceedings, Ali informed ATC-1 Special Judge Chaudhry Habibur Rehman that the agency formally arrested Musharraf, who is accused of conspiracy to murder former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

The FIA prosecutor told Rehman that the former president did not appear before the agency’s investigators after obtaining pre-arrest interim bail from the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench on April 17.
Now I wonder, could there be a link between Immy the Dim's comment of Taliban not being responsible and Chaudhury saabs unexpected tryst with Houris? I'm assuming Immy is acting as a spokesperson for the Talibs - the bad ones?

Not really. An eye for an eye is the best response, despite the ramblings of Gandhi. Similarly, India should pitch tents in Chinese territory in response to its latest land grab.

TSP wouldn't even care, in fact it'd be secretly happy that it's ABSOLUTELY off the hook for Sarabjit's extra-judicial killing. I mean, seriously, can anyone in the media now point fingers at Pak?

And secondly, when TSP/ISI or their goons attacked Sarabjit it was not because he was just another Indian prisoner. There are 270 others like him and many undocumented PoWs that it could have killed without the world knowing. It killed him because Sarabjit meant something to India - a man falsely accused, whose case had been taken up by no less than the PM and EAM of the country and was being routinely followed by the Indian media. His was a very different case than the other 270 Indians being held in captivity. TSP wanted India to seethe in anger.

So, if we had to retaliate (and assuming this Jammu incident is a state-sponsored retaliation), we should have chosen someone who "meant" something to TSP and its people. And it could have been much milder in terms of violence, but something that would've shaken their people. E.g. having one of their "artists" in Bollywood slapped a-la-Sharad Pawar. It'd be much better - its something that the State can't prevent, it can't be retaliated against (there are no Indian artists in TSP land) and its video could be played over and over by media resulting in TSP's public humiliation.

Asymmetric retaliation carries much more weight than a petty "You slap me, I slap you back", because now TSP can very well kill more Indians in their jails and turn back and say "Didn't you raise the security levels in your jails and still have an attack on one of ours?"
"

Has this "finger pointing" towards Pak led us anywhere in the last 50 years? It is better to break their teeth in tit for tats. Nothing unsettles a bully more than being slapped back.

Thursday’s bomb blast outside an office of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was the 42nd attack on electioneering since April 11 when the May 11 polls were exactly a month away and the deadly trend, including bombings and armed assaults, has claimed more than 70 lives, including two contesting candidates, and left over 350 injured as both the security administration and caretaker government find it the “most bloody and challenging elections” of Pakistan’s history.
Just 74 killed, 8 days to elections. This is disappointing, i was expecting atleast 500 from Taliban.

Vital organs missing in Sarabjit’s body: Second autopsy report

Even as outrage poured in India against the brutal killing of Sarabjit Singh, new revelation might aggravate the relation between the two countries. A second autopsy was conducted at Patti Hospital in Amritsar to ascertain the cause of death and to cross-check the claims of Pakistan over the same and the time of death which found vital organs like heart, kidneys and stomach were missing from the body.

A panel of five doctors, consisting of heads of the departments of Forensic, Anaesthesia, Orthopaedics, Surgery and Pathology from Amritsar Medical College, conducted the post-mortem of Sarabjit’s body on Thursday night.

According to sources the panel found vital organs like heart, kidneys and stomach missing from the body of Sarabjit.

This will make the autopsy exercise in India grossly inconclusive, said doctors, raising further questions marks over the intentions and conduct of Pakistan in the case of Sarabjit, who was brutally assaulted inside the Kot Lakhpat Jail.

On Thursday, a six-member Pakistani medical board performed the autopsy of Sarabjit Singh, 49, at the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore, before handing over the body to the Indian officials, media reports said.

Gunman shoot dead top Pakistan prosecutor investigating Benazir Bhutto assassination
The lead prosecutor in the murder of Benazir Bhutto was shot dead in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Friday as he travelled to court.

Gunned down: Pakistan prosecutor in Pervez Musharraf case killed on way to court
Gunmen fired at Chaudhry Zulfikar from a taxi and hit him in the head, shoulder and chest

Gunmen shot to death the Pakistani government's lead prosecutor in a high-profile case involving former military ruler Pervez Musharraf today as he drove to court in the capital, Islamabad, police said.

The gunmen fired at Chaudhry Zulfikar from a taxi and hit him in the head, shoulder and chest, said police officer Mohammed Ishaq. Zulfikar then lost control of his car, which hit a woman passer-by and killed her, said another police officer, Mohammed Rafiq.

Zulfikar's guard Farman Ali returned fire in the attack and believes he wounded at least one of the attackers, Rafiq said. Ali also was injured in the attack.

Police official Yasin Farooq said the attackers fled after killing Zulfikar, and that a massive search has been launched to find them.

A motive for the killing was unclear, but Zulfikar was involved in two particularly high-profile cases. He was the government's lead prosecutor in a case related to the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in a gun and suicide attack in 2007, said Ishaq.

Government prosecutors have accused Musharraf of being involved in the murder and not providing enough security to Bhutto. Musharraf, who was in power when she was killed, has denied the allegations. He blamed the assassination on the Pakistani Taliban at the time of the attack.

Zulfikar was also the government's lead prosecutor in a case related to the 2008 terrorist attack on the Indian city of Mumbai that killed 166 people. The attack was blamed on the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Pakistan has put seven men on trial on charges they assisted in the Mumbai siege, but the trial has made little progress. India has criticized Pakistan for not doing more to crack down on the militants blamed for the attack. Hafiz Saeed, the head of a group believed to be a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba, remains free, and many believe he enjoys the protection of the government. Lashkar-e-Taiba was founded years ago with the help of Pakistani intelligence to put pressure on India over the disputed territory of Kashmir.

Musharraf returned to Pakistan in March after four years in self-imposed exile to make a political comeback despite Taliban death threats and a raft of legal cases against him. But his fortunes have gone from bad to worse since he arrived.

Judges barred him from running in the May 11 parliamentary election not long after he arrived because of his actions while in power. A court in the northwestern city of Peshawar went further this week and banned Musharraf from running for public office for the rest of his life — a ruling the former military strongman plans to appeal.

Musharraf is currently under house arrest on the outskirts of Islamabad in connection with several cases against him, including the Bhutto case. He also faces allegations of treason before the Supreme Court.

Zulfikar was headed to a hearing related to Musharraf and the Bhutto case at a court in Rawalpindi, next to Islamabad, when he was killed, said Ishaq, the police officer.

Musharraf seized power in a military coup in 1999 when he was serving as army chief and ruled for nearly a decade until he was forced to step down in 2008 because of growing discontent with his rule.
The attack on a paki prisoner is as shameful and cowardly as the attack on Sarabjit .However, this is what the shameless and spineless UPA-2 led by the mendicant of "snake-oil"...."piss in our time with Pak" Dr. Singh and his team of Judases ,have brought us to.The Pakis murder us to our face and the Chinese steal our land in broad daylight.

Westerners and WKKs always do equal equal. They don't need a specific incident, to stake claim to do a equal equal.

e.g Couple of days back, Christian UnFair asking for a Paki Nuclear Deal similar to Indo-US Nuclear Deal. But, she opposed U.S-India Nuclear deal in 2005.
e.g Mani shankar non-Aiyar defending pakisatan against Tarun Vijay in recent TV debates

Can This Alliance Be Saved? Salvaging the U.S.-Pakistan Relationship
Rewarding Nuclear Blackmail?

This author opposed the 2005 U.S.-India nuclear deal for several reasons.

First, I thought it hurt the goal of nuclear nonproliferation to let India into the nuclear club while elsewhere trying to tighten the noose to keep Iran out.

Second, while I support strong U.S.-India ties, I was not persuaded that the deal would open the door to deeper U.S. and Indian strategic cooperation and American weapons sales to India as promised.

Third, I was annoyed at the misrepresentations made by its proponents during numerous congressional hearings on the subject.

Fourth, I understood that it would give Pakistan wiggle room regarding its nuclear aspirations.

Finally, I anticipated that should Pakistan fail to secure such a deal, it would likely work to sabotage everything the United States was trying to do in Afghanistan. After all, Pakistan sees itself as paying a heavy price for supporting the U.S., while India reaps rewards without such cost.

If the United States wants one last chance of salvaging a relationship with Pakistan, it should put on the table a conditions-based, civilian-nuclear deal.

Unfortunately, when the Government does not act after 66 years of repeated aggression, humiliation, terrorism, and abuse, some people may take it into their own hands to retaliate. This is a consequence of timidity, non-governace, abject failure, and utter clulessness. One may not justify it but one should be able to understand it.
