Air Force Tejas Mk1A: News & Discussions: 02 January 2022
Re: Air Force Tejas Mk1A: News & Discussions: 02 January 2022
I don't understand this business of minor, major not acceptable, which perspective are we talking about, is the IAF conducting some warfare right now. They (IAF) are mainly using the fighters in a training role for their pilots. Would some features not working thwart the entire flying abilities of the craft - then dont take them. I think we are talking about features/functions which are missing, how is that going to impede what they are trying to do - i.e. training. If it is actual warfare then it is a different thing. Our media chaps also write some rubbish terms in their report without apprising the common aam admi about things. All these deadlines is a red herring. Things take time for implementation of requirements and when it happens it is available. There is no magic wand which will hasten things. No one is willfully delaying things, why would they. Getting requirements thrown at the last moment by a User implies delays - just live with that. No point in accusing one or the other.

How will this help at this stage? It should be all hands on board to get the remaining integration done rather than penalising your own unit.

Defence ministry sources have said that the production and readiness schedule for the LCA Mark1A is expected to reach around 18 to 24 aircraft by the end of the current year. The programme has faced delays due to GE F414 engine supply issues from the US firm. The Tejas Mk1A is part of India’s indigenous fighter aircraft development initiative.

Hope HAL continues to push the line ahead and has the platform ready even without engines. They can rework what is needed later, but the platform should be ready to go if the engines arrive.

HAL has lodged an FIR. The private company had also previously supplied bigger components for other aerospace projects, including the Sukhoi fighter fleet and Dornier aircraft.

^ Google indicates TEC Aero Devices is a Hyderabad based firm.
They make Aero Test Rigs for aircraft, supplanting Russian/ European equipment.
Also have a fastener division, supplying nuts, bolts, screws, and such items.
The HAL parts falsification issue about material quality, shear strength etc. could be something to do with fasteners.
May not be a Design lssue with LCA, more likely to do with Compliance, Quality Control, Process and Materials.
Tejas itself is sound design, unfortunate bad press and bad timing for this issue to crop up.
