HT really seemed to be at it yesterday with a entire evening dedicated to the "SIT leak". Harinder Baweja ( of "If i was a muslim in India now, i would have taken up the gun long time ago" fame) was going hammer and tongs on points which were actually exonerating Modi!!!!
When will the INC realise that the law of Diminishing returns has happened in the Modi case and their overkill at the start ( trying to get him on encountering Pakis and their Indian accomplices while AP police havent even been questioned for Acid throwers/Azad encounters) has made even genuine issues on Modi become a laughing stock.

From the Urdu Press
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/chang ... in/746001/
The turmoil gripping Arab nations has been the subject of great discussion in the Urdu press. In an editorial on January 31, Rashtriya Sahara writes: “The fact is that whether it is Tunisia or Egypt, Algeria or Jordan or other neighbouring countries, the people want change... The responsibility for the present situation in Egypt lies with President Hosni Mubarak and the US from where he receives guidance... Obama’s statement, to the effect that Hosni Mubarak should fulfill the promises made to the people, is now irrelevant. The Saudi ruler has also played with the sentiments of the Egyptian people by expressing sympathy with Hosni Mubarak.”
But there is some confusion and deep suspicion in sections of the Urdu world. On January 30, Delhi-based daily Hamara Samaj writes: “The fact cannot be denied that there are many forces at the international level who want to destroy the Muslim countries. It is quite possible that there is an international conspiracy here.” Jamaat-e-Islami’s Daawat is more specific. In a front-page piece on January 25, the paper writes: “The people’s consciousness (awami bedari) is not behind the noise of the slogan of democracy and free elections. It is the conspiratorial mindset of the West that is at work, to create a situation of political turmoil and civil war in almost all Muslim countries and using democracy, and its wherewithal, to keep them trapped in domestic problems. The people of those countries are being very easily misled.” The paper says that “if one looks at the demonstrations for six months after the presidential election in Iran, and how America and Britain controlled the opposition’s agitation from behind, much of the truth of the events in Tunisia, Lebanon and Sudan is revealed.”
...
Flagging convictions
Describing the BJP’s policy on Kashmir as “separatist,” Hyderabad’s Etemaad Daily (the mouthpiece of Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslemeen) writes in its January 25 editorial: “What message does the BJP want to give to the people of Kashmir by unfurling the Tricolour at Lal Chowk on January 26 when the Tricolour is unfurled by the state’s governor on that day? It means that Kashmir is a part of India. But the BJP repeats the same act. This will be taken to mean that the party has the same kinds of doubt about Kashmir being part of India that the Kashmiri separatists have.”
The paper adds: “After the confessions of former RSS pracharak Swami Aseemanand, the Sangh Parivar thinks that its nationalism and patriotism have become dubious. Making use of the peaceful atmosphere of the valley, the Sangh Parivar wants to unfurl the Tricolour at Lal Chowk so that, in its view, the blot put on its nationalism and patriotism by Swami Aseemanand might be removed. But the history of the Sangh Parivar’s terrorism is full of such crimes. How many such blots can it remove?”
Delhi-based daily Jadeed Khabar, in its editorial on January 26, describes the campaign to unfurl the Tricolour at Lal Chowk as a part of the attempt to worsen the sensitive situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The “disturbance created by BJP workers at Jammu following the arrest of the party’s leaders was tragic and painful. Tricolours were scattered all over on the road, and it was difficult to imagine a greater insult to the national flag than this,” the paper says Lahori Logic.

The suspect, 32-year-old Vitaly Razdobudko, is one of the growing number of Russians who have embraced radical Islam, creating a security nightmare for Russia's anti-terrorism squads.
Inured to more than a decade of terrorist attacks on their trains, planes, schools, hospitals and theatres, ordinary Russians are facing up to an uncomfortable truth: the terrorists are now drawn from their own ranks, rather than exclusively from the impoverished Muslim population of the country's North Caucasus region.
"The appearance of Slav Muslims in the terrorists' ranks is threatening to become a tendency," said Andrei Kuznetsov, a commentator on the lenta.runews portal.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the constitutional validity of the central government assistance to subsidise air fare of Haj pilgrims which amounted to Rs 300 crores every year.
A Bench comprising Justices Markandey Katju and Gyan Sudha Misra said the amount given as subsidy for Haj was too meagre and could not be termed as a diversion of a major chunk of the income tax to fall foul of Article 27 of the Constitution.

I don't know about it but some of justice katju's comments ...
The petitioner, however, had some reason to cheer during hearing of the case, when one judge broke into an impromptu speech terming the Gujarat carnage a "disgrace" to the country. "We know what terrible things have been done to minorities in Gujarat.
It was a disgrace to our country the way treatment was given to minorities in Gujarat," Justice Katju said. Taking little care to accommodate the views of his companion judge, Justice Katju went to the extent to say not all the accused have been prosecuted in the case.

Oh, Justice Katju also expressed regret quickly, when faced with criticism, and vowed to protect Muslim rights. He even proved how well he had protected their rights in earlier instances. The SC bench also expressed its regrets later on. The Supreme Court also revoked its earlier order on beard, IIRC.
Let us see what happens now.

There is no law broken if public statements and judgment and their retractions and revisions done by judges/benches are simply highlighted in a sequence or comparatively. Do not draw any personal conclusion in writing, but judgments once delivered [including alterations/retractions] become public domain for quotation or analysis. Simply posting them in contrasting opinions from the same judge/bench and his/her other public remarks on record should be good enough to illustrate whether the judiciary is really independent or not. At least it will illustrate the mechanism by which a political establishment can manifest Chomsky's "manufacture of consent" on all wings of the rashtra.

assam tribune. - I suppose 'capture' is a H&D play to cover surrender and retain some street cred.
Bangladesh hands over 3 ULFA rebels
SHILLONG, Feb 5 (IANS) - Bangladesh authorities Saturday handed over three more rebel leaders of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to Indian frontier guards at Dawki area in Meghalaya, an official said.
ULFA 'captain' Upen Buragohain alias Antu Chaudang, 'second lieutenant' Pradip Chetia and corporal Saurav were handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) after they were long captured by Bangladesh security forces in that country.
"The Bangladesh Border Guards have handed over the three ULFA rebels to us (BSF) this (Saturday) morning at Dawki and simultaneously we handed them over to Assam Police," the BSF official told IANS on condition of anonymity.
The trio has been taken to Assam for further interrogation.
ULFA publicity cell manager Arun Dohotia had earlier claimed that Buragohain and Chetia were picked up by Indian intelligence agencies in Bangladesh Dec 13.
Saturday's handing over assumed significance in the wake of ULFA's acceptance of holding unconditional peace talks with the Indian government that may bring the curtains down on more than three decades of insurgency in Assam.
The peace talks, to be held in New Delhi Feb 10, will be led by ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa. Home Minister P. Chidambaram or Home Secretary G.K. Pillai are expected to lead the government side.

Court exonerates Salman, frames charges against 13 other accused
A city court on Saturday exonerated Salman, allegedly a member of the Indian Mujahideen (IM), of all the charges placed against him in the 2008 Delhi serial blasts by the Special Cell. It noted that the investigators had failed to produce substantial evidence to even make a prima facie case against him, so as to put him on trial.
“The accused, Salman, is discharged in all the five cases (the FIRs registered in the blast cases) as there is no material on record to prima facie show his role and involvement in the Delhi serial blasts,” Additional Sessions Judge Santosh Snehi Mann said in the order.
The court, however, framed charges against the other 13 accused in the case, noting that prima facie offences punishable under various provisions of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act were made out as per the evidence submitted in court. It issued production warrants against all the accused — Mohd Saif, Shakeel, Zeeshan, Zia-Ur-Rehman, Saquib Nisar, Sadique, Kayamuddin Kapadia, Hakim , M A Peerbhoy, Mubin Kadar Sheikh, Asif, Ismail and Shehzad — so charges could be framed.
The exoneration of Salman has come as a setback to the Special Cell. Salman was arrested by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh police from the Nepal border in Siddharthanagar district in March 2010. He was later brought to Delhi by the Special Cell as an accused in the five cases. Seeking custodial interrogation, the police had then claimed before the court that Salman was also involved in the blasts, allegedly carried out by the IM in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Varanasi and Gorakhpur in 2007-08.
Tough to believe that no evidence could be found on Salman who was hunted down from Nepal and brought back ( shows the amount of work put on gettig him)...
Am only praying that this is not a attempt by the INC governments at state and centre to prove Diggy right about his "Batla encounter is fake" claim!!

NSG Unit to move out of West Bengal
The Centre's decision to position the elite NSG ‘black cat' commandos in Kolkata to deal with any possible terror attack has come to a nought with the West Bengal government expressing its “inability” to the Home Ministry to provide suitable land for the base.
The West Bengal government's stand stifled efforts of the last two years of the Home Ministry and NSG officials who have been regularly touring the State as part of the plan to establish a 300-acre regional centre there. Disappointed by the turn of events, top sources said the Centre was mulling moving out a 90-acre NSG hub already existing in Kolkata to another State.
“The government may plan to shift the hub from Kolkata to another place,” they said.
The Union Home Ministry in an official order of January 28 has now asked the National Security Guard (NSG) headquarters here to “locate land in other States.”
Alternative sites
The sources said that they were now scouting for sites in Jharkhand and Assam.
Four NSG hubs and two regional centres were created at Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata after the Mumbai attacks.
Kolkata and Hyderabad were earmarked to have regional centres. The NSG acquired land in Rangareddy district in Andhra Pradesh last April and work is in full swing there.
“The West Bengal government has expressed its inability to provide a suitable land for the NSG regional centre at Kolkata. The earlier location at Rajarhat was suitable but the State government retracted its earlier nod. Other areas had the problem of water-logging,” the sources said.
They said that if the NSG regional centre is not set up in Kolkata, the commandos will not have a place to train and hence there is a possibility that the hub located at Badu in the State capital will also be shifted.
The governments of Assam and Jharkhand have expressed willingness to station the troops and provide almost 300 acres of land for the regional centre to accommodate almost 5,000 commandos, they said.
Ministry's letter
The Union Home Secretary, Mr G.K. Pillai, had written to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal on January 27 to make available the land soon, but the Home Ministry was informed that land could not be provided. “It was decided that the hubs at Hyderabad and Kolkata will merge with the bigger regional centres but due to glitches in identifying land and transfer of ownership, the commandos at the Kolkata hub are rendering their duties from a location next to the international airport in the city,” the sources said.
The delay in the process has led to problems for commandos in Kolkata who either have to use the State government's training facilities or go to the NSG's original garrison at Manesar in Haryana.
This is pathetic and deplorable.
