The hamas action was simply brilliant. No question. It showed up the paper . Israel and more worryingly the US.
This is even more cataclysmic than 9/11.
Israel is not a paper tiger but this is a massive failure. Much more than a slap on the face of Mossad/shin bet etc. but Israel will rise again. They will need to clean house and learn from this.
Those videos are tough to watch but folks have see it to realize the Monster we are dealing with. Imagine what we went thru in Medival times. Apologists are already white washing this barbarity . Dhruv Rathee has an aak thoo video which I will not link
We are talking about 9 million people who are surrounded by more than 200 million sympathizers and soft/hard supporters of Hamas. Israel is going to fail at least once. In fact, Israel's reliance on technology has to do with manpower shortage everywhere. So we got to give it a pass. They will be paper tigers if after the attack they collect evidence to send dossiers and then have a debate on TV saying they are our neighbors and therefore we need to talk to them. We will see if they can rescue the hostages and give it back to Hamas.

What will Justinder & Jagmeet say, if Hamas "activists" suddenly mysteriously start dropping dead on Canuckistan soil?
Hypocrisies will collide. Worlds will collide. Vote Banks will collide.
At some point, Indian Pappu will have to challenge Canadian Pappu to a cage match (maybe a tag-team one, if you include Jagmeet)
Each will have to fight for the honour & glory of their particular Vote Bank.
The fate of the Woke World will hang in the balance.

Universo Paralello was not originally intended to take place at the Re’im site, and the organisers moved it to this location only two days before it started after the original site in southern Israel fell through.
The Kibbutz Re'im where the music festival was held, is just a few kilometers from the Gaza fence. I am unable to find the original planned location. It also seems that the location was sent only to ticket purchasers. Ticket purchase had to be done with ID and Facebook link.
Was the attack on the music festival a crime of opportunity or did Hamas change its plans for that area in two days?
"Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement condemning Hamas and offering support for Israel amidst the recent crisis illustrates that ties between the two nations have changed dramatically in the last two decades."
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the Israel-Hamas crisis that unfolded over the weekend was unequivocal. Modi tweeted on X, “deeply shocked by the news of terrorist attacks in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour.” Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar retweeted the statement. The statement and its speed were striking. Until as recently as 1992, India had no diplomatic relationship with Israel. Furthermore, India is not a country known to be quick to choose sides in a crisis.

Heads will roll. In Shabak / IDF. It's inexcusable to allow a large base to be overrun.
Israel pop is ~9m. About 150K dual American citizens. ditto with other countries. So there will be a % of pop who are going to be dual citizens.
Looking at the news on no of officers being targeted, it does look like good intel. Perhaps a state actor who has provided this. By defn, officers particularly sr ones are supposed to be hard to tgt.

I have a video on WA, that I am unable to post here. In it an Israeli speaker, in excellent English, states that only a military power could have done what occurred. He mentions, among other topics, that various frequencies were jammed.
And, he blames Russia. Claims Russia is behind Hamas.
Hamas was originally promoted by Israel to counter the influence of the PLO. They eventually became far too strong for Israel to manage.
Hamas (which is Sunni) also fought on the side of the Anti Assad forces in Syria, so they also had a tacit understanding with the US.
A very strong Anti Israel feeling seems to have brought both Hezbollah (which is Shia) and Hamas together. If they and the militia owing
allegiance to the PLO in the West bank come together, this can get a lot more serious.
Dean Saar, can you please fill into more depth about the origins of Hamas and Israeli hand in the same? The only other place I've heard this is from George Galloway. And, then this for your exceptional work in the Ukraine thread.
Pakis will be watching. They have 2 perspectives now:
1) Pulwama was stupidity. They got pulverized in Balakot and it helped, at least a bit, in propelling Modi in 2019
2) OTOH, an attack like the Hamas one might cause disaffection among the populace, dent Modi's strongman ("no terror attack during my term") image and combined with anti-incumbency, freebies, minority-mobilization - might tilt the balance in the I.N.D.I.A favor
ISI will be watching the state elections with great interest, while preparing for an attack(s). They will also be closely collaborating with the Congress, who will feed them the ground-situation. Soros is another player in this game, who will have an influence on Congress thinking
Lastly, we have China. Will they be thinking: "what Pakis by themselves, could not achieve via Pulwama, could we achieve it together, with help from the Congress?"

Another fallout of this is that the SC will be emboldened in their overreach. The attack does not reflect well on Netanyahu & the "internal rift" over the attempts by his Govt to curtail the Israeli SC powers that led to street protests (which might have been astroturfed)
We can expect headlines like Authoritarian regimes weaken society, inviting external attacks, Dissent is the safety valve of democracy blah blah, while conveniently ignoring what happens in China
Modi sarkar, unwilling to take on the SC even in the best of days, will be even more wary of curtailing the SC

Egypt says it's staying out of current Israel-Hamas conflict.
Is there any danger Egyptian govt of Al-Sisi could be destabilized from this? (ie. could Israel defeating Gaza lead to greater danger of losing Egypt?)
We have to understand the following:
The ideological fount for Hamas is the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (MB)
With great efforts Egypt clamped down on MB in late 60s & early 70s
MB has done a lot of damage for Egypt (and, of course, for the rest of the world)
It was MB's Morsi who sneaked into power after Hosni Mubarak's departure and immediately began implementing MB's radical ideology through laws. Good sense dawned on the Egyptians and he was quickly removed. But it showed that the remnants of MB are still strongly active in Egypt.
The Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ) which killed Anwar Sadat was heavily influenced by MB
One of MB's charters is 'antisemitism and destruction and defeat of Zionism'.
MB has been the ideological fountainhead of almost all Islamist jihadist outfits
Ayman Al Zawahiri who was a part of EIJ and a plotter in the assassination of Anwar Sadat, later became Emir of AQ
Palestine Islamic Jihad (PIJ), modelled after EIJ, is active in Gaza and competes with Hamas for fame & name, though it is still a small outfit comparatively.
Syed Qutb, the top-most ideologue of MB (who was hanged later by Nasser) along with Maulana Mawdudi (of Jamaat-e-Islami) are considered as the two great mujaddids (Islamic Reformers) of the previous century.
ISIS's Emir Abu Baker extensively quoted from Qutb and Mawdudi while assuming power and justifying actions.
Egypt considers Hamas, therefore, as a security threat and imposes a maritime blockade on Gaza along with IDF. It also keeps a close watch on the Sinai Peninsula crossing point from Gaza to Egypt.
MB and its offshoot Hamas have 'destruction of Israel' as their goal. They are not planning to accommodate Israel and adjust to the reality. However, that is not the aim of Egypt & Jordan. They cannot therefore allow this poisonous streak to once again create problems in Egypt.
Let's recall how Jordan's King Hussein conducted 'Op. Black September' massacre with the help of a certain Brig. Zia-ul-Haq as he feared danger to his own Kingdom. That's why even during the peak anti-Israel sentiments in KSA, the Kingdom never got close to Palestinian leaders. The nervousness will be more so now with this Hamas attack fully supported by Iran
So, I think that except for Iran, Qatar, the Houthis, Syria, the Hezbollah, and the sundries everyone else would welcome the elimination of Hamas. The West Asian Kings will shed tears for the Palestinians and issue some harsh or mildly harsh statements. IDF must finish its job rather quickly.

Awesome analysis as always SSridhar! I think the Iran-backing of Hamas is what might make UAE/KSA/Jordan stand out or just publicly make some noises while privately ignoring them. The power play will decide how quickly this issue ends. If Hamas is allowed to get away with it, it will embolden Iran and affect the other Sunni kingdoms. Wonder how much Turkey might be aligned, I wouldn't put it past them to clandistinely support Hamas given their antagonistic relation with KSA

The Ambassador is talking through his hat or fez.
The IMEC trade route was conceptualized by Jaishankar as Mumbai to Mediterranean. India spent lot of midnight oil with KSA and UAE and both Israel and Greece. Biden didn't want to be left out and it was with great reluctance both MBs agreed.
Why revive Petra ? That's the real trade route to Europe. Read "Roman Empire in Indian Ocean."
Let me tell you open secret. Mundra? Haifa and the Greek port all will be run by Adani.
KSA and UAE are paying for land bridge with highway and rail track.

Congress has passed the resolution supporting Palestine so this is what CHINDI Alliance is supporting
I thought this interview was quite decent, informative and balanced (in Hindi)
And another one
We are giving Israel, especially the current right wing government and the army of settlers unwarranted carte blanche. We should absolutely denounce the Hamas terrorist attacks and stand by Israel in this hour. But let it be clear that Israel is no innocent lamb. If there are a thousand Gazans mobilized here facing near certain death, it is because they didn't have much to live for anyway.
Go look at Google maps, see the way the Israelis live and compare & contrast with clutter of Gaza. See the expansion of neighbourhoods with Hebrew names into the West Bank. See the barriers and checkpoints. Palestine is like a cornered wild animal - it will predictably lash out. Israel could have easily given them a viable state or semi-state so its populace would have something to lose - today they don't.
The world created South Sudan and East Timor, so one can hope for some viable long-term arrangement.
Notably, the US stock market went up today - not an event associated with war.

There are no justifications for the mass rapes and murder of children and women done by the Islamists of Hamas, and this is not right forum for this propaganda. Take a break from posting on this topic and the forum for a few days. Your prior posts on the topic are all straying into similar territory as well.

One question that no one has ever asked is if the things are so bad for the Palestinians, why do they continue to live there?
Most of the arab countries are getting millions of immigrant workers from countries like India, pak, BD, Phillipines, Nepal etc. but none of them allow any immigrants from Palestine.
2 million people live in Gaza and apparently there has been a blockade for the past many years. Then what is the work that people do? How do they make money? 2 million people simply cannot live on charity. Qatar and others fund these guys just to further their own geo political influence. No one really cares for the aam abdul in the street.
Just like the problem in Kashmir, there are many people who make a lot of money from the Palestine-Israel conflict, including people in Israel.
