Imran Khan's Inaccurate Book Withdrawn in India
Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan's new book has become the latest publication to trip over the cartographic tangle of the India-Pakistan border.

Publisher Random House has recalled all advance copies of the book in India and delayed its release here due to errors in a map of the two countries at the time of the Partition, which wrongly showed Pakistan-occupied Kashmir shaded in the same colour as that of Pakistan.

Titled Pakistan: A Personal History , the book was launched in the United Kingdom over the weekend, but was scheduled to be released in Indian bookshops on Wednesday. Advance copies had already been sent to the media for review. However, on the scheduled date of release, Random House recalled the 30-odd advance copies, reportedly due to the errors in the map.

Sources at the publishing house say the book is now likely to be released next week after the offending pages are replaced with a map that India considers accurate.

Centre's displeasure

In this case, Random House seems to have taken pre-emptive action before any official complaint. The international media often faces the brunt of the government's displeasure, with The Economist magazine forced to use a blank sticker to cover up a map showing the current effective border in its May 2011 edition. The Customs Department has also been known to stamp offending publications with the following legend: “The external boundaries of India as depicted are neither accurate nor authentic.”

Polio strain spreads to China from Pakistan
Polio has been found in China for the first time since 1999 after spreading from Pakistan, the World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed.
It said a strain of polio (WPV1) found in China was genetically linked with the type now circulating in Pakistan.
At least seven cases have now been confirmed in China's western Xinjiang province, which borders Pakistan.
7 cases of polio is not a joke!

There is only one issue here...99% infections of Polio are asymptomatic or mild non-specific illness ... So if 7 cases have been confirmed in Pandaland , the number of infected must be considerably higher ...but they ll never develop the disease...

Finally tallel/deepel fliends getting full benefits of their fliendship with TISP...AOA they have some more devastating and more deadly gifts from baakistan ...like some hemorrhagic fever ..

Britain checks potential visitors for actual immunity (antibody) levels for some diseases - which is a step beyond medical certificates of vaccination that can be faked. The presence of polio antibodies would be proof of either immunization or current infection. This will have to become the norm. I guess.

GOC Swat injured in attack on his helicopter
http://www.thenews.com.pk/TodaysPrintDe ... 005&Cat=13

PESHAWAR: The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Swat was reportedly injured in an attack on his helicopter in the volatile Pak-Afghan border region situated along the Upper Dir district.

Major General Javed Iqbal was inspecting the border that has frequently come under attack from Pakistani militants who operate from sanctuaries in the Kunar and Nuristan provinces of Afghanistan. The growing militant attacks from across the border precipitated a major troops’ deployment on the border that snakes through the mountains along Upper Dir and Chitral districts.

“The shots were fired on the helicopter from across the border when it was flying over Batur village,” said an official based in the border areas of Upper Dir. “However, we don’t know whether the helicopter was hit by the bullet or not,” he added.

A Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman for Malakand division, Sirajuddin, said their fighters had fired at the helicopter. He claimed they had knocked the helicopter down. The downing of the helicopter, however, was not confirmed by residents and officials based in the border area.

A number of attempts were made to get a version of the military but the officials either avoided receiving calls or refused to offer comments on the incident. It could not be ascertained whether the helicopter had received shots or not and whether the GOC had sustained bullet injuries.

Reporters, however, suggested that the senior military officer, who has been supervising all military activities in Swat and bordering districts, was injured in the leg. He was said to have been shifted to Rawalpindi in the same helicopter that came under attack.

With an all-lie like TSPA-ISI having access to the top levels of security cordon in Kabul there will be no safe corners for unkil in Afghanistan. Without TSP's cooperation unkil will not be able to take a dump in peace over there. Ultimatum or no ultimatum we all know who has the upper hand in this conflict of interests.

"Inadequate" does not tell the whole story. There is a mullah constituency in Pakistan which has been preaching that NGOs and vaccination are a Jewish conspiracy. Add that to Paki govt massive spending cuts to public health, recent natural calamities and wary international donors who don't want to flush money down the pakistan. Also recent reports of CIA using vaccination campaign to collect OBL DNA harmed the reputation of the Jewish conspirators who run vaccination program in Pakiland.

Vasavadatta, a courtesan and whore is attracted to a handsome Buddhist Monk. She invites him over to join her but the monk refuses saying "it not yet time" (Samayamaayilla..). But time passes on and she has many lovers. One day she kills one of her lover, a powerfull man, to satisfy another. She is caught for the crime and the king orders her ears, nose and fingers to be cut off for a slow death. She lays bleeding with only her 'priya thoozi'/ daasi by her side to scare away the vultures and crows. A whore with many lovers once, is now despised by the world, lay bleeding. At this moment the monk decides it is time for a visit. He visits her and explains to her that only now she is open to what he has to say. The monk imparts the way of dharma. She accepts dharma and dies a peacefull death.
Substitute Pak for Vasavadutta, India for the monk, US for the killed of lover. Now you can appreciate the poem.
So to Pak and her forign minister Hina Rabbani Khar we say, Samayamaayilla.. Samayamaayilla..

From Long War Journal:
Pakistan frees al Qaeda commander: report
Pakistan has freed a senior al Qaeda commander who served as Osama bin Laden's bodyguard, according to a report from the region.

Dr. Amin al Haq, who served as the security coordinator of Osama bin Laden's Black Guard, was recently released by Pakistani authorities, according to a report in the Afghan Islamic Press, a jihadist news organization based in Peshawar. Al Haq was released from Pakistani custody several weeks ago, his family members told the Afghan Islamic Press. According to the report, Pakistani officials released him as his connections to al Qaeda "could not be proved," and he is also "not in good health."

Haqqani network not on Pakistan soil: Rehman Malik
Islamabad: Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has ruled out the possibility of Haqqani network’s presence in Pakistan.

Malik, who held a meeting with Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director Robert S Muller in Islamabad, however, said that if Pakistan receives credible information about the group’s presence, the government would launch military action.

“I assured FBI director Robert Mueller that the Haqqanis are not on the Pakistani side, but if there was any intelligence, which was provided by the US, we would definitely take suitable action,” the Daily Times quoted Malik, as saying.

Pakistan. The bill provides $161.4 million for Department of State operations. The bill does
not specify amounts for assistance for Pakistan but does provide $1 billion for the Pakistan
Counter-insurgency Capability Fund which is $100 million below the President’s request.
The
bill includes strengthened restrictions on assistance for Pakistan by conditioning all funds to the
Government of Pakistan on cooperation against the Haqqani Network, al Qaeda, and other
terrorist organizations, with a waiver, and funding based on achieving benchmarks.
The US President wanted 1.1 billion. Someone with small balls reduced that by a few percentage points to 1 billion. Big deal. This is called "ratcheting up pressure"

No one believes me, but I make myself happy by saying such things. Your statement about the US is exactly one such statement - it makes you happy to think what the US could do "should it chose to do that". By repeating that you have already thrown up on all of us, but it's not disgusting. It's pathetic. Your defence of a nation that dangles longer than anyone else, but never becomes stiff enough in front of Pakistan consistently adds entertainment on this thread. But in terms of real power against Pakistan - I am seeing it happen right now. Save the triumphalism to when the US goes beyond bribing Pakistan and making empty threats. Your President has just okayed 1 billion dollars for Pakistan - even before the bodies of his dead SEALs whose hands he was shaking a few weeks ago have rotted away fully, and Pakistan is already complaining that the US is being too pushy. It's all there in this thread.

Oh - your president "held back" 100 million from that total. Three cheers.

ISI-urged attacks on US: Officials
US officials say there is mounting evidence that Pakistan's chief intelligence agency has been encouraging a Pakistan-based militant network to attack US targets.

Some US intelligence reporting alleges that Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence directorate (ISI) specifically directed, or urged, the Haqqani network to carry out the Sept. 13 attack on the embassy and a NATO headquarters in Kabul, according two US officials and a source familiar with recent US-Pakistan official contacts. However, officials cautioned that this information is uncorroborated. {This is possibly an escape clause if the US has to retract the statement for some reason later on}

Another US official familiar with internal government assessments said that at the very least, the available intelligence strongly suggests the ISI has been egging on elements of the Haqqani network to launch attacks at American targets in the region.

Sure boss...now read this:
"The administration has thrown everything at this -- high-level meetings, tons of money, all of these overtures, and it hasn't gotten us anywhere," said Caroline Wadhams, a security analyst in Washington.

"This can't go on forever," she said, "but the problem is that we have so little leverage."
Avik, there is no doubt that the US can destroy Pakistan militarily and the Pakistanis can do very little about that, if the US so desires. An example of that was Abbottabad. The 'leverage' being spoken of here is the use of 'soft power', which has evaporated from the US. But, the US is not willing to go the hard way, especially now in the dire economic situation that it is in. It made mistakes in its GWOT by attacking Iraq and aligning with Pakistan in the Afghanistan theatre. It is now too late and it has to bear the consequences. Today, the US mood is to cut the losses and run back. However, the Taliban and its Pakistani handlers don't want to let the Americans off the hook without giving them a bloody nose.

A US Senate committee has voted to make $1bn (£650m) worth of aid to Pakistan conditional on action against militant groups, such as the Haqqani network.

The group, which is believed to be based in Pakistan, has been blamed for a string of deadly attacks on Western targets in Afghanistan.

The vote follows some rare yet public statements signalling US anger at Pakistan's approach to militancy.

Pakistan denies its intelligence agency is working with the Haqqani group.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik told the BBC Urdu servcie that Pakistan was determined to fight all militants based on its border with Afghanistan.

The vote by the Senate Appropriations Committee still needs approval from the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Committee members approved the $1bn budget to support counter-insurgency operations by Pakistan's military, adding that this was $100m (£65m) less than what US President Barack Obama had requested.

But a committee statement says it "strengthened restrictions on assistance for Pakistan by conditioning all funds to the government of Pakistan on co-operation against the Haqqani network, al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations".

A roadside bomb targeting anti-Taliban militia travelling in a pick-up vehicle in north-west Pakistan has killed at least five people, local officials say.

The blast badly damaged the vehicle in a remote village close to the Afghan border in the district of Bajaur.
"It was a planted IED (improvised-explosive device) which exploded when the vehicle passed. Five people have been killed and eight others were wounded," Adalat Khan, a government official in Chamarkand village, told the AFP news agency.

"Three of those who died are members of an anti-Taliban militia and one is a 10-year-old boy. The fifth one is the driver."

Officials say that another vehicle was damaged in the attack and that several people were wounded.

This is not true at all. Don't make claims for the US it does not even make itself. Don't give yourself a false sense of over confidence.

The USA was strong for the last 50 years because its competitors from Germany, Japan, UK, France, Russia, China & India either annihilated themselves or self castrated themselves economically and militarily. This was a unique occurrence historically and gave a unique advantage to the US. Even Americans understand this.

Was thinking a bit on Shiv Ji's 'ultimatum' example. Searching a little this is the closest to the 'rifle' example i could glean out..from TOI/ WP:
Separately, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday that "In what amounts to an ultimatum, administration officials have indicated that the US will act unilaterally if Pakistan does not comply ."
So the likely level of escalation after Drones should logically be regular boots in the ground kind of operational forays in the Northern areas. That would rank as a big escalation as any loss of boots on Paki soil will lead to larger scale retaliations and escalations from the US side. I assume escalation written all over as the US solidifies it's Northern distribution networks.
