AP sources: Pakistanis tip off militants again
WASHINGTON — US officials say Pakistan has apparently tipped off militants at two more bomb-building factories in its tribal areas. The officials say that allowed the militants to flee after U.S. intelligence shared the locations with the Pakistani government.

One U.S. official said this was intended to give Pakistan another chance to build trust after the U.S. raid on May 2 that killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.

The latest incident brings to a total of four bomb-making sites the U.S. has shared with Pakistan, only to have the terrorist suspects flee before the Pakistani military arrived much later.

imo the US would just bomb these factories (with workers inside) if it wanted to bomb them.

No the reason this info was shared was to confirm which pipelines in Paki MI/ISI are working with the terrorists (if any were needed!)

this might also be a testcase used by anti-paki sections within GOTUS to prove to the pro-paki sections and POTUS the real picture...

we can expect some direct fireworks next time...

Even during a so called democratic interregnum, criticising the Military dominated “Deep State” in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a perilous undertaking.

Committee to Protect Journalists pins the blame for the latest assault in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Journalist Waqar Kiani who works for the UK’s Guardian Newspaper squarely on the “Security Forces” of the Islamic Republic:
“With this latest attack, it's become even more evident that security forces are targeting journalists and that the government must intervene”

When an organisation has a motto of “Iman Taqwa Jihad fi Sabilillah” or translated as “Faith, Piety and Jihad in the Path of Allah”, as the Army of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan happens to have, it is but natural that the organisations personnel will sooner rather than later indulge in a spot of Jihad for Allah as in this case.

Meanwhile this story says so much about the Islamic Republic of Pakistan besides the penchant of its populace in indulging in religious inspired Islamic Terrorism. First that despite being under a stray phase of democracy, where the Army of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is involved, the Pakistani press is fearful about breaking stories and leaves it to the foreign media, the BBC in this case, to break the story. Second despite being under a stray phase of democracy it seems appears to be entirely natural for the Army of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to be able to incarcerate an individual for over a month without having anyone of the civil society being the wiser.

Article by Amir Mir in The News about the arrest of Brigadier Ali Khan for links with Islamic terrorists provides a decent roundup of individuals serving with the Military of the Islamic Republic who have acted upon the motto of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan of "Iman, Taqwa, Jihad fi Sabilillah" or translated “Faith, Piety and Jihad in the path of Allah” and indulged in a spot of Jihad in the Path of Allah over the past decade or so:
However, it is not the first time that allegations have been made about links between elements in the Pakistani military and the militants belonging to Hizb-ut-Tahrir. At least two serving army officers were court martialled in 2010 for their alleged links with the Hizb-ut-Tahrir which represents a new breed of Islamic fundamentalists, who study at top British and American schools yet abhor Western values, advocate a pan-Islamic state and favour the removal of Pakistan’s pro-US government. The Pakistani military authorities had denied last week that a serving major was among several people who had been detained on charge of being CIA informants and passing on information which helped the US track down and kill al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden. But it soon transpired that Major Amir Aziz, a doctor in the Pakistan Army’s medical corps, had been picked up.

Similarly, on May 30, 2011, hardly a week after the May 22 fidayeen attack on the Mehran Naval base in Karachi, the Pakistani military authorities arrested from Lahore a former commando of the Pakistan Navy, Kamran Ahmed, and his younger brother, Zaman Ahmed, for aiding the attackers. Kamran, who joined the Pakistan Navy in 1993 and was trained as a Special Services Group commando, was detained on charges of providing maps of the Mehran Naval base to the attackers. He had served at the Iqbal Naval base in Karachi till 1997 and was later transferred to the Mehran Naval base where he served till 2003, before being court-martialled by his institution and terminated from service in 2003 for assaulting a senior fellow officer.

However, Kamran is not the only Navy officer to have been arrested for his links with jihadis. Another Pakistani marine commando from the Waziristan tribal region, who had been posted at the Mehran Naval airbase, was arrested in January 2011 for his alleged links with militants. During interrogation, he disclosed that al-Qaeda and Taliban-linked militants had plans to target some key naval installations, including oil depots and power grid stations.

As a matter of fact, the spectre of Islamist infiltration has haunted the armed forces of Pakistan for decades. The creeping coup of conservatism in the armed forces is a legacy of the country’s third military dictator, General Ziaul Haq, under whose command the state policies were centred on Islam; religious sermons by fanatic mullahs in military units were encouraged and even Tableeghi Jamaat members were allowed to preach in the garrisons at will. This drift within the armed forces was first revealed during Benazir Bhutto’s second tenure as Prime Minister in 1995, when a group of senior Army officers headed by a Major General was busted planning to topple the government and to eliminate the existing Army leadership, with the prime aim of enforcing Islamic Shariah in the country.

The subsequent arrest of dozens of commissioned and non-commissioned officers of the Army and the Air Force in connection with the December 2003 suicide attacks targeting Musharraf’s cavalcade in Rawalpindi did not, consequently, come as a great surprise to many. And it probably did not surprise the military leadership that al-Qaeda and Taliban-linked militants had penetrated the Pakistan Army and Air Force units to preach their brand of jihad and recruit personnel to assassinate none other than their own Army Chief. After surviving twin assassination attempts, Musharraf had ordered the purging of known Islamists from superior ranks of the armed forces.

In January 2005, almost a year later, after court martial proceedings, a military court headed by Lieutenant-Colonel Sultan Noor Ali Khan of 96 Medium Air Defence Regiment, sentenced three Air Force officers to terms ranging from two to nine years for alleged links with the Jaish-e-Mohammad led by Maulana Masood Azhar. Nauman Khattak, 18, and Saeed Alam, 19, were sentenced to two years in prison, while the third airman, Munir Ahmed, was awarded a nine-year sentence.

Three months later, in March 2005, the trial court handed down death sentence [in absentia] to another accused in the conspiracy to assassinate Pervez Musharraf, Naik Arshad Mahmood of the Special Services Group (SSG) of the Army and others, including Havaldar Mohammad Younis of the 98 Air Defence Regiment of the Army, who was awarded 10 years with hard labour, and Lance Naik Zafar Iqbal Dogar of the SSG, who abandoned the mission halfway and became a key state witness. Six months later, on September 18, 2005, yet another military trial court sentenced Major Adil Qudoos to 10 years in prison, Colonel Abdul Ghaffar to three years and Colonel Khalid Abbasi to six months. Major Attaullah, Major Faraz and Captain Zafar were dismissed from service.

However, in an unprecedented move, never heard in the Pakistan Army, Abdul Islam Siddiqui, an Army soldier, was executed on August 20, 2005 after being tried in a closed-door Field General Court Martial, headed by a Major General. The 35-year-old Siddiqui was charged with pressing the button of the remote control device which caused an explosion targeting Musharraf in Rawalpindi on December 14, 2003.

After spending a lot of time in the navy, and at sea, some people develop hallucination problems, specially if somebody comes from a hallucinatory organization like the isi

It might be the case with the pakistani captain of p$n%s babur ,that he desperately wants his 72s .

Next time a P$N%S interferes in the war games , it should be considered as a Allah gifted opportunity of live firing ..

Pakistan 'can't protect atomic arsenal from Islamic extremists'
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... mists.html
Professor Pervez Hoodbhoy, who teaches at universities in Lahore and Islamabad, said there was evidence that the Army had been infiltrated by extremist elements.

"We have reason to worry because the most secure installations, bases, and headquarters of the military have been successfully attacked by Islamic militants who have sympathisers within the military," he said.

"What is the proof that nuclear installations or weapon stocks would be exempt from this? My worry is not limited to nuclear arsenals because places that deal with fissile materials can also be similarly infiltrated."

Not only this Isabelle Saint Mazari has disclosed in famous daily of western Europe LE MONDE DIPLOMATIQUE that India has succeeded in securing a deal of supply of drones with Israel. In this regard India has already launched a SPY SATTELITE with the help of Israel in 2009. While in contrast to this Pakistan is begging to USA for drone technology since last three years.

Pakistan asks US to leave 'drone' attack base

Pakistan has told the US to leave a remote Pakistani airbase that is reportedly used for covert CIA drone flights, Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar said. "We have told them (the US) to leave the airbase," Mukhtar said during an interaction with Pakistani journalists at his office in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.

The Pakistani military made the demand in the aftermath of the US raid that killed Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in the garrison city of Abbottabad on May 2.

Possible Drone bases in the "Land Of the Pure"...

The main location seems to be Bandari Airbase (aka Shamsi Airbase) which is not even listed as a base in Paki ORBAT.

The other locations are
1) Dalbandin, Pakistan (28°52'60.00"N, 64°25'0.00"E)
1) Jacobbbad (28°16'56.26"N, 68°27'2.52"E)
2) Pasni (25°17'29.66"N, 63°20'50.47"E)
3) Panjgur (26°57'10.53"N , 64° 8'3.66"E)

Maybe, the US just shut shop in Shamsi and moved to other sites...or Shamsi could have just been a decoy. Or god knows, they could be flying Drones from Bhatinda?!?!

Unkil could be flying drones right out of Ashfaq Kayani's arse and there is nothing he can do about it, they can only make far*ing noises about it. This talk of the pukis telling the Americans to leave this base or that base or lodging a strong protest is all an eye wash for the puki population which mostly is shameless but has plenty of foolish pride, just like their "fearless" leaders. The people in puki military/gov't have to keep up the appearance that they have any say at all in what the U.S. does in their pukiland.

X Posted from the ISI History and Discussions thread.

The citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan reportedly belatedly discover that the Uniformed Jihadi's of the Military are incompetent, corrupt and prone to abusing power:
Scandals taint revered Pakistan military

The military establishment, which long dominated politics and society, is accused of incompetency, corruption and abuse of power after the Bin Laden raid and other incidents.

By Mark Magnier, Los Angeles Times

July 3, 2011
Reporting from Islamabad, Pakistan—

It's difficult to overstate the respect that Pakistan's military has enjoyed among its people. Since the nation's violent birth in 1947, the armed services have been touted as the glue holding the country together, having waged three wars with India, defended Pakistan's part of divided Kashmir, safeguarded the Islamic world's only known nuclear weaponry and battled growing domestic terrorist attacks.

In recent weeks, however, the military and its shadowy spymaster cousin, the Inter-Services Intelligence agency, or ISI, termed "the establishment" here, have been rocked by charges of incompetency, corruption, abuse of power and extrajudicial killings.

"I'm 37 and in my lifetime I never imagined the Pakistani army and the ISI would be bludgeoned in public like this," said Mazur Zaidi, a documentary filmmaker. "The narrative they built up over 63 years is cracking."

If the challenge to that narrative — that the military and intelligence services are above reproach — is sustained, it could have broad implications for Pakistan's democracy, regional relations and the fight against on terrorism, some analysts said.

By dominating Pakistan's domestic politics, national budget and foreign affairs, the military establishment has hampered development of a more representative government, placed undue priority on facing down India and gobbled up resources better spent on education, electricity and the economy, critics said………………………….

The Pakistani army has "defended Pakistan's part of divided Kashmir".

It is an Indian communication/media failure that the story that is recalled is one that suggests that India is threatening "Pakistan's part of divided Kashmir" . Or there is lifafa in the article.

Either the beards have achieved spectacular success and thus PA has to respond to save its hide (it is way past saving H&D there) or Uncle has gone past GUBO sessions and putting a Gun to "you know where" and that too with no grease!! or a combination of both.

Did anyone notice that our summer exercises this year have been less spectacular than before??
