Afghans Must Not Engage In Military Activity Outside Afghanistan, Says Taliban FM
Dec 11, 2025, 16:34 GMT
https://www.afintl.com/en/202512114098
At a gathering of religious clerics in Kabul, Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said that, according to decisions and fatwas issued by the assembly, Afghans must not engage in military activity outside Afghanistan.

Muttaqi said the Taliban has the authority to take action against Afghans who disobey this order, based on the assembly’s recommendations.

Speaking on Wednesday at the clerics’ conference, he said the gathering had offered “the best recommendations” to the Afghan people and the Taliban administration. He added that under the assembly’s ruling, anyone who “from near or far” commits aggression against the Taliban would make “jihad against them” obligatory for the people.

The Taliban foreign minister said leaders and elders of the administration have pledged that Afghan soil will not be used to harm any country. He said the clerics’ assembly also emphasised this point, stating that obeying it is necessary for everyone.

Muttaqi stressed that, under the assembly’s decisions, safeguarding the system is not solely the duty of officials and security institutions but “an obligation for Muslims” to protect the Taliban administration. He said clerics have always advised leaders to maintain unity among themselves and to shield the system from internal divisions.

Tahir Andrabi, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, previously said the clerics’ meeting and its decisions are not enough; Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, must provide Pakistan with a written assurance. He added that Islamabad has not yet received the resolution from the assembly.

The body of a 34-year-old student from Afghanistan, Bainullah Ziya, was found in his room late on Saturday night, Indian media reported.

Ziya, a PhD student in the architecture department at MS University in Gujarat, had been living in a rented apartment in the Fatehgunj area for the past two years. Police are interviewing Ziya’s friends, classmates, and family to explore possible reasons, including academic pressure, personal issues, or challenges related to his status as a student from Afghanistan living in India.

I thought this had happened earlier, but there is a February 9th, 2026 date to this news-item.
The Khaama Press News Agency reports:
Afghanistan Halts Medicine Imports from Pakistan
https://www.khaama.com/afghanistan-halt ... -pakistan/
Finance authorities announced medicine imports from Pakistan have been halted nationwide, urging traders to secure alternative supply routes to maintain domestic availability.

A spokesperson for the Finance Ministry said the ban on Pakistani medicines has been enforced across all customs points, with officials confirming immediate nationwide implementation.

Authorities also stated that medicine smuggling is under strict monitoring, warning that violators will face legal action under customs regulations to prevent illegal drug supplies entering markets.

The ministry urged pharmaceutical traders to quickly find alternative import routes to avoid potential shortages and ensure continuous medicine availability in hospitals and private pharmacies nationwide.

Officials added that facilities and procedures for importing medicines from other countries will be eased to maintain steady supply chains and prevent disruptions in healthcare services.

Authorities earlier announced agreements to import medicines from Uzbekistan and India, aiming to reduce reliance on limited trade routes and diversify pharmaceutical supply sources.

US backs Pakistan’s ‘right to defend itself’ against Taliban after strikes on Afghanistan
Callum Jones, 27 Feb 2026

Washington endorsed Pakistan’s “right to defend itself” after it bombed major cities across Afghanistan amid heightened tensions between the two hostile neighbours.
The Taliban government in Kabul stressed it was ready to negotiate on Friday as violence intensified between the two countries.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahi said: “The Islamic emirate of Afghanistan has always tried to resolve issues through dialogue, and now also we want to resolve this matter through dialogue,” he said.
The Pakistani strikes hit parts of Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia on Thursday night, and Paktia, Paktika, Khost and Laghman on Friday, he said.
Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif earlier said his country was in “open war” with Afghanistan, and that patience had run out in Islamabad.
The latest wave of attacks came after Afghan forces attacked Pakistani border troops on Thursday night, which Afghanistan said was in retaliation for deadly Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan border areas last weekend.
Pakistan accuses Afghanistan’s Taliban government of sheltering militant groups that stage attacks across the border – a claim denied by Kabul – and of allying with India, its historic enemy and regional rival.

Afghanistan says it thwarted Pakistan airstrikes on Bagram airbase
Sporadic clashes reported in several provinces in Afghanistan as both sides give conflicting death tolls
Guardian staff and agencies, Sun 1 Mar 2026

Afghanistan has said it had thwarted Pakistan’s attempted airstrikes on Bagram airbase, the former US military base north of Kabul, as cross-border fighting between the two countries stretched into a fourth day.
Months of clashes have flared up again since Thursday, when Afghanistan launched attacks along the frontier and Pakistani forces hit back on the border and from the skies. Pakistan has declared it is in “open war” with Afghanistan.
On Sunday, the police headquarters of Parwan province, where Bagram is located, said in a statement that several Pakistani military jets entered Afghan airspace “and attempted to bomb Bagram airbase” at about 5am.
The statement said Afghan forces responded with “anti-aircraft and missile defence systems” and had managed to thwart the attack. There was no immediate response to the claim from Pakistan.
Diplomatic efforts have failed to secure a truce, with Saudi Arabia and Qatar among those engaged in efforts to halt the fighting.
The conflict has alarmed the international community, particularly as the area is one where other militant groups, including al-Qaida and Islamic State, still have a presence and have been trying to resurface.
Islamabad has accused Afghanistan of failing to act against militant groups that have been carrying out attacks in Pakistan, which the Taliban government has rejected.
Many attacks have been claimed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a militant group that has stepped up assaults in Pakistan since 2021, the year the Taliban authorities returned to power in Kabul.

Pakistan Airstrike on Kabul Hospital Kills Over 400, Taliban Condemns Deadly Attack Amid Tensions
Pakistan carried out airstrikes on Afghanistan, hitting a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul and killing 400 people, with over 250 injured. The Afghan Taliban government spokesperson confirmed the death toll from the strike on what has been described as a 2,000-bed drug addiction treatment centre in the Afghan capital. Rescue teams are attempting to control fires at the building and recover victims' bodies. Pakistan has claimed it targeted important Taliban military bases. The conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been ongoing for the past 10 days, with statements coming from both sides. Afghanistan's defence minister had previously warned that if Kabul is targeted, Islamabad would not be safe either. The Afghan Taliban and several cricketers, including Rashid Khan, have condemned the attack as cowardly. The airstrike occurred at around 9pm in central Kabul and nearby areas, marking the largest attack in the ongoing conflict.
