Twist in the tale: Now 121 DU professors write letter extending their support to PM Modi over his remarks on Rajiv Gandhi

Twist in the tale: Now 121 DU professors write letter extending their support to PM Modi over his remarks on Rajiv Gandhi

MAY 7, 2019

Earlier in the day, Sam Pitroda, Congress leader, had shared a letter by DU professors where they had condemned PM Modi's remarks on Rajiv Gandhi. However, later on, some of the teachers had denied signing any such letter.

Hours after Congress put up a letter where over 200 Delhi University (DU) Professors had allegedly condemned PM Modi’s ‘Bhrashtachari no 1’ comment against Bofors scam accused Rajiv Gandhi, another list has come out where the DU professors have backed PM Modi’s statement.

According to Republic TV, as many as 121 DU professors have signed a letter condemning Congress for addressing PM Modi in the foulest language on a daily basis.

Image

In the letter, the professors express their concern over the ‘anti-historical’ narrative Congress is trying to set that Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure cannot be critically analysed. They condemn how certain DU professors don’t want anyone to point fingers at Rajiv Gandhi while referring to the incumbent PM in a foul language.

The professors mention that the fact that Jawaharlal Nehru, his daughter Indira and his grandson Rajiv, are not beyond critique just because they were awarded Bharat Ratna. Especially about his role in the Bofors scam and 1984 anti-Sikh riots. They further add that they fully support Narendra Modi in bringing to fore the corruption cases during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure.

The scathing letter further reads, “‘Bofors deal’ became a symbol of official corruption; it initiated a trend which had consistently been followed by Congress-led governments. Scandals like 2G, Coalgate, CWG, and now Scorpene Submarine scandal directly involving Rahul Gandhi are all the natural corollaries of Bofors tradition. The subsequent remote controlled Manmohan Singh UPA government even defroze the accounts of Gandhi’s family friend swindler Ottavio Quattrocchi.”

The letter further states Rajiv Gandhi’s public address where he justified the 1984 riots by saying that when a big tree falls, the earth shakes and condemns the officially sponsored pogrom.

The DU professors then point out Rajiv Gandhi’s alleged involvement in the escape of Warren Anderson, Union Carbide chief, right after the Bhopal gas tragedy. “Rajiv Gandhi as PM was responsible for letting Warren Anderson Chairman of Union Carbide escape justice in the Bhopal Tragedy episode. His company was responsible for the death of thousands of poor Bhopal residents- most died instantaneously and thousands later owing cancer and other diseases caused by poisonous gas leaks.”

The letter then puts out pointed questions to Congress.

Rajiv Gandhi’s role in 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Rajiv Gandhi’s role in the escape of Quattrocchi from Bofors investigation and why was the case against him diluted.
Why was Warren Anderson allowed to escape through a special plane.
The letter is signed by Delhi University professors.

Earlier in the day, Sam Pitroda, Congress leader, had shared a letter by DU professors where they had condemned PM Modi’s remarks on Rajiv Gandhi. However, later on, some of the teachers had denied signing any such letter.

Since the election campaign gained momentum, letters are emerging from various quarters where self-proclaimed intellectuals, film artists, army veterans are reportedly urging the voters not to vote for Prime Minister Modi. However, in such letters too, signatories have later claimed that they were not aware of such letters and had simply denied signing such letters.

Can someone explain. If the betting cost is more means probability of happening is less?
its just illegal betting networks.
The hope is since money is involved it can be used to gauge public sentiment.
If that is so, depend on it. Pitroda will find a way to skew it towards Congress.
He is now the Rasputin of Congress.

the risk appetite of punters will be across a spectrum and probably form a bell curve in the middle - moderate risk, moderate reward.

so can this be called 'street sentiment'

problem is this satta bazaar is spread not uniformly across the country but in some pockets where people are cash rich and like to make large bets.
but pro is these people with money on the line will be actively tapped into the networks of political workers and getting news from state level how the big bosses feel after collating reports from underlings.

maybe if each state had its own legalized market like UK has , then it would be more reliable.

More importantly it breaks the illegal Dawood Ibrahim betting rackets.
So should be looked at that angle.

No he may not! Shree Doval's is in an appointed post and he serves because of the confidence of a politician, the PM. If he has found any wrong doing, he has to follow due process of law, not keep secret files and "put them in their right place".

What you are saying is illegal and is a criminal offense - blackmailing and extortion. Even suggesting that Shree Doval (who has been very rule-based all his career) do that and undercut the constitution is not cool.

543 wont be so gung ho if the direction was opposite. To his credit, he was first to see AAP win in the first Delhi poll (when others were giving it a low number). In fact he said they picked after office hours), only person to say NDA loosing big in Bihar (his numbers were eventually right) after first round of voting (that even Today's Chanakya got wrong in its exit poll, and everybody else). He was also the first to say BJP will be 300+ in UP in pre poll but was at 230-250 ish for BJP through out polling). He did fine in MP and Rajasthan (vote % were close, he though missed it by the error margin), but he was very wrong in Chhattisgarh. I am more worried about that modelling/methodology error getting carried over to LS poll. I trust that he would have taken corrective measures, but one can never eliminate unknown unkowns.

+1. The comment was well designed to educate new generations about false saints created by nehru family. If in this day and age they are peddling things like fake supporting letters, one can imagine what kind of brainwashing and white washing would have been done when they had absolute control in first four decades. I thought that I knew everything about nehru family atrocities but still learned more in last couple of days. Anything to increase awareness.

Chattisgarh was an Ajit Jogi peeling off anti incumbency vote. That said, Chattisgarh CM was very harsh on Modi yesterday saying since he doesn’t sleep much, then Modi has an unstable mind. Effectively calling him retarded. I watched him speaking Republic TV and realized that he would have kept quiet if there was widespread support for the BJP in Chattisgarh. Notice Kamal Nath was relatively quiet next door in MP where Modi enjoys broad support. IMHO, Chattisgarh looks like a disaster for BJP. I don’t recall any Modi or Amit Shah massive rallies recently in Bilaspur.

Thanks, Suraj. A lot of major universities in the US have archives of major world newspapers dating back many decades. They used to be on microfiche, but everyone has gone on line. Unfortunately you have to be part of the particular university system to get access. I think some BRF members who are in academia may be able to dig stuff up relatively easy.

November elections in CG were different. the results even surprised Congress who did not have a CM face till after the results.
There was anti-incumbency as Raman Singh was the CM for three terms. However during his term the face of CG was changed and the demographics shifted.

Baghel is out of his depth if he thinks its his charisma that got them power.

Kamalnath is quiet for he knows that Shivraj Chauhan can upset the apple cart right after the 23 May results.
He even poached the lone BSP MLA and got BMW ire in UP which means he knows UP is lost for Congress.

Still BJP will get their 5 to 6 MP seats from CG out of total 10. So its not a wash out as press makes it out.
if they get 6 seats can expect a change.

He and Rajiv Malhotra make good pair to take psec crowd both legally and intellectually head on, based on what I gather from comments and opinions in their interviews with each other. It's probably on most peoples' blind spot, but the the lout Will Dalrymple has a very active ongoing whitewashing of Babur in process on Twitter over the last few days. His messaging is polished with sufficient deniability embedded ("it's not whitewashing, here I've thrown in some bad words about him") as well as overt political messaging focused on setting a message about the Babri Mosque:
https://twitter.com/DalrympleWill/statu ... 5369400322
"If you mention Babur on twitter a million sanghis pop up to say Babur was a terrorist jihadi... In fact he never uses the word Allah, prefering the term Tengri- the sky deity worshipped by steppe peoples. According to his biographer Stephen Dale, "Babur scarcely refers to Islam.""
I've screenshot the post in case he edits or deletes it.

Why is this important in this thread ? Two reasons:
a) Active preparations are being made against further forward movement on the Ayodhya structure
b) a foreigner is actively involved in political messaging while on a visa

A few remarkable things about that report. its by AP which is Associated Press and headlined from Delhi.
Its about the Boeing bribe for the 3 Boeing 737s purchased for Indian Airlines.
the amount is close to a $1M with exchange rate in those days of 11 rupees to the $.
Off course this pales in comparison to the Bofors a few years later.
To its interesting that a Uty of Michigan school paper decided to print the story in its newspaper in the early 1980s.
U Mich, Ann Arbor has a very good Political Science department.

Wonder who were on the editorial board and served as advisers to the paper at that time?

Makes for good entertainment value like the verdict on VVPAT's today. I'd rather see these people in courts than screaming from a rooftop :democracy is being subverted!

It doesn't matter what they say, eventually the Lutyens eco-system will lose steam and fizzle out.
Regardless of who is requesting it, it is good to have reliable cross-verification of voting for the good of country. EC original argument of 1 vvpat per constituency is ridiculous and at the same time 50% politicians requesting may be too much for time considerations to declare winner. When all EVMs are equipped with VVPATs, why not count them all. You can have some statistically minimum verification to declare the winners. In the background cross-verify most of the machines until the winner difference is too high. I don't recall exact number but 15-25% verification provides statistical reliability as per one news article I read. There may be formal academic studies of what are minimum required percentage for cross-verification. It should be based on analytical studies instead of, as it turned out, political slug-fest among EC, SC, and politicians.
